I can't believe it took me this long to come here! I always thought it was just your typical salad place, but it is so much more than that! I love that they have plates and salads. The plates are basically protein + two sides. The portions are huge! I can easily split a salad or a plate into two meals. I got the tuna nicoise salad for dinner. The tuna was served rare with a bit of a sear + seasoning on the outside. I love how fresh and flavorful everything taste here! Will definitely come back here again. Only "negative" about this place is that it's a bit pricey =/ At least you're paying for high quality food! read more

I usually really enjoy tender greens and I realize they are making the food to order but today I waited 45 minutes for two entrees. At 30 mins of waiting after seeing others who ordered after me literally finish their food I ask about the status of my order. I was told they were waiting on mashed potatoes - I say I will take another side. The employee then scrapes the very bottom of the mashed potatoes to put on my order but then the entree is still not ready because the salmon is still being cooked. So not only did I wait 45 minutes I didn't even get fresh food I got the very end of a side dish that had been sitting out. I understand being busy but I feel better customer service would have went a long way. read more

I don't know if it's because I got my food delivered, but this salad is literally a huge ass leaf and then there are like 3 pieces of tuna that came with and I spent around 15$ with tax for this bs read more

If you don't know what you're doing for dinner, tender greens is always a great option for a fresh meal that feels home cooked even though you're eating out. The ingredients taste clean and you won't end a meal feeling like you had fast food or anything of the sort. read more

45 mins later still no food. Unable to find order for refund. Manager was helpful, but staff are overwhelmed.

Highly recommend mashed potatoes as the side, they do them really well here! Other than that... I really raised the STEAKs this time. RAREly is the result so great! I MARINATED in all the awesome-sauce while my friend was up to FISHY business. I should note, you do have to spend a lot of GREENS here...but the meat is quite TENDER and the salad has been TENDED to well! read more

Ordered through a 3rd party delivery service and was overly impressed. I got the fried chicken sandwich and salad. Chicken had a lovely lightly crispy outside and perfectly cooked inside. Bun was toasted and soft. Love the slaw and pickle combo. Will be coming in soon and trying something else! Thanks! read more

I don't remember the food name. I tried "today's special". It was lamb and penne pasta with greens and cheese. It was a good quality food. Lamb was very soft and juicy. All ingredients taste balance was calculated very well. A Herb they use on the dish made the taste appealing. I definitely come back here again. Highly recommend!! read more

3.5 stars* My opinion on this Tender Greens is the same as it is for the other ones I have gone to...its good, but nothing really more beyond that. I always order the steak with mashed potatoes and Kale salad. They will let you know when you order, but the steak does come medium rare...which I do like. The steak is good and the portion is good in my eyes, but at the same time I feel like it is not worth $12. What is funny is i say that yet I always go. The mashed potatoes are good. But my favorite thing is the Kale salad. I am the biggest meat eater on earth and I am shocked at myself for saying how much I like a salad. For those who were wondering, yes, I do like the kale salad part of the plate more than the meat...which is crazy! It comes with parmesan or some other cheese on it. It is literally the best. Overall, Tender Greens is always good, but is always meh in my eyes. Still will come back, and if you have never gone you should go too. read more

Love the food, however the staff is rude and not welcoming. Everything is moving passed paced here, but you'd think the staff would do it with a smile. read more

A bit pricey for what it is, but I enjoyed the food! As a calorie-conscious eater, I appreciate that they provide calorie counts next to each menu item. Tender greens offers plates that you can build yourself, sandwiches, and salads. I opted to get a falafel plate for my first visit here, along with some mixed greens and seasonal vegetables. The dish also came with a slice of grilled bread. The falafel was my favorite part of the meal. It had a suuuuper crispy outside, and when I dipped them in the thick and creamy tzatziki, my taste buds were very happy! The interior is also decorated really nicely, giving a hip/trendy vibe. Overall, I would call this place more of a clean-eating restaurant than a healthy restaurant, because the calorie counts still get pretty high. Most sandwiches were close to 1000 calories. read more

Great location on University in Downtown Berkeley with fresh ingredients and great selection. It's a bit pricy, but that's how it goes with organic food and the price of eating healthy these days. Nice portions though. Decor and atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, it's very spacious and they even have an outdoor seating area in the back so you can get some sun while you eat. I like the food a lot and the service is great. Knocking down one star just because, for whatever reason, every time I've gone, they've managed to get my order wrong (usually missing a food item). They've always remedied the problem as it's a relatively simple and quick fix, but when it keeps happening (4 or 5 times now), makes me wonder. read more

Came here with a friend, my lunch buddy. We walked in, and immediately the first impression was it was pricey. High end salad and cafeteria style ordering. Ordering was a bit confusing as had to order at the cashier but no one said that in front. Then paying and getting drinks were at the second cashier. Why can't they take the orders in the front? Friend had the chicken soup and spinach salad. Must've been a pound of spinach alone and was a bit too much dressing on it for me. The soup was good and clean with plenty of shredded chicken. I had an Chinese chicken salad. It was pretty good. Nice mixture with solid amount of dressing, which overall made the favor pretty good. The food in itself was clean. But for the price $13, I was not sure about that. Might be cheaper at Wholefood. Rating Food: 4 Price: 1 Ambience: 4 Service: 3 Overall: 2 Too expensive for the amount of food. But it was good. read more

One of my favorite places to get a beautiful salad. Ingredient pairings are unique and superb. Menu selection is great. Wish I had one closer to my neighborhood. I could eat here every day. read more

Trey was delightful. I ordered a lager and was disappointed by how hoppy it was. I asked if I could swap it for a Pilsner after drinking it a bit. Even though I was being picky, Trey made sure that my glass was cold for the second beer, reaching back into the back of the fridge after the first one he grabbed was too warm. I felt very taken care of. Crispy trout special was excellent as was the salmon. read more

I really loved the feel of this place. It screamed Berkeley to me with the healthy choices and location. The bf and I got to sit outside in their cool chairs which was nice since it was a beautiful day. I ordered the steak plate with the spinach simple salad and their savory bread pudding. The portion even though it didn't look like a lot was very filling. Steak was cooked to how I wanted it, salad wasn't drenched in dressing like most places and the bread pudding was bomb! It had spinach, tomatoes and sausage I believe and was crisp on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. My boyfriend got the salt and pepper chicken plate with the butter lettuce simple salad and chicken soup. He seemed to enjoy it. The free agua fresca we received for checking in on yelp we could've passed on. But its free so won't knock them for it. Definitely wanna come back for that bread pudding! read more

When I visit friends in La Jolla, we generally head for lunch at Tender Greens in the University Towne Center. That Tender Greens is solid, as is its sister restaurant on Arizona in Santa Monica. When I learned that TG was coming to Berkeley, I was right pleased. I came close to showing up on Berkeley's opening day, but circumstances conspired to keep me away until this week. Here are a few observations: 1. As other reviewers have pointed out, you should Check In on Yelp to get a free lemonade or agua fresca. I choose the latter, and ended up with watermelon. Delicious! 2. The restaurant was beautifully renovated and looks great both inside and outside (back patio). 3. Some of the Berkeley customers are Tender Greens newbs, so the line may not move as fast as it does at mature locations like La Jolla. 4. The Tender Greens folk have kept the Berkeley location to their usual high standard. My chicken plate ($13.66, including tax) was delicious, though it seemed to me that the portions were a tad less generous than in SoCal. Downtown Berkeley seems to be exploding with great new lunch choices. (Makers Common is about to open, for example.) Tender Greens certainly deserves to be kept in your mix. If you haven't yet come by, I recommend that you visit Tender Greens in the near future. read more

Yesterday I went into this restaurant and everything going smoothly but as I was finishing up my food I couldn't believe the words coming out of the a person who I later found out was the manager! The disrespect and vulgar was aimed at her employees and this just left me shocked and with an upset stomach. Not stepping foot in this place after seeing that interaction take place. No thanks. read more

You pay for what you get quality quality quality!! I have been eating here at this Tender's greens for about 2 going on 3 years now and the food as well as the staff is AMAZING! Always very efficient and servicing with a smile on there face! I love the fact they use fresh organic ingredients! I mainly come in an order their plates, which comes with protein salad and a starch! I eat the salmon plate most often and everytime the food is prepared to excellence! Oh and dont miss out on there baked good! Always the perfect taste texture and consistency! read more

Food is ok but the service was terrible. We waited behind a slow customer for over 5 minutes with sign of ending so we ordered online instead. We ended up waiting for over half an hour occasionally asking if our food was ready. After we were finally called up we realized they just had the food ready on the shelf for a while now! It was there when we asked for an update, and they said they were still 'working' on it even though there was not a single employee doing something visibly. read more

We order from this Tender Greens online and orders are usually ready within 15-20 minutes. Food and service are very consistent, haven't had any bad experience there. The website says that there's a curbside pickup option, but I don't think they have that in this branch, which is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, recommended! read more

Tender Greens - Medium rare? More like well done... GARBAGE. - Salad Near Me - Berkeley, California

I've been here a few times but it hasn't been super consistent. For example, sometimes my garlic bread is amazing, and sometimes it's so hard it's almost burnt. And it's not like I get *the* one bread that goes wrong, when I eat with 2 other friends, they will also get the burnt bread. I like their meats (I usually get the tri tip) but the barbeque chicken was a little dry for me, although the flavor was good. I wish they'd give a little more of the meats on the plates. Overall, not really my go to because of the price, but I do go back once in a while. read more

Delicate, interesting and quite beautiful flavors here. You won't find over-garliced, over-salted or over-buttered stuff here. Healthy. Good balance of carbs, protein and fiber. Just right portion size. My go-to is salt-pepper chicken with arugula salad (has fennel and light parmesan - yum!) and mashed potatoes. Tried stake and a few other salads here and I am generally pleasantly surprised. Favorite drinks are kombucha on tap and hibiscus. read more

DAMN!!! WooHoo! As good as it gets! Is what it should say lol! This place is real delicious, a trendy, casual atmosphere with great service and great food! FOOD: The food is amazing, you can say it's on the pricey side. But I'm not going to say that, because you're getting tender juicy boneless chicken, grilled juicy tender steak, or a crispy juicy tender fried piece of chicken, with some creamy mashed potatoes, and your choice of greens- for the same price or 3dollars more you would pay for a sandwich at Ikes! This food is waaaaay better, waaaaay more healthier, and you the consistency of how its made each time i order is always the same! Delicious! THEY ALSO CATER! RESTAURANT: As mentioned earlier, its a trendy and casual type of atmosphere. With tender greens serving beer, having a awesome patio in the back for the summer days and nights that are around the corner and having so much space inside the actual restaurant. Single seats, double seats for parties of 2 or more! Its a great place. Havent been? Try the plate (Chicken or steak, mashed potatoes, and broccoli) or even the salad plate! read more

Drove by here a few times and had wanted to try it for a while and finally got the chance yesterday -- it was great! Fresh, tasty food and good-sized portions make this a new favorite lunch spot in Berkeley. I didn't realize that it was a chain (until my friend pointed it out), but they're doing a great job and I hope to see more of them around the Bay. I had the fried chicken salad and would wholeheartedly recommend it! Very attentive wait staff/bussers to who went above and beyond by proactively asking if I wanted a drink refill. read more

The last few times I've ordered from this Tender Greens the chicken was not flavored like usual and the mash potatoes were bland. I hoped it was just a few bad experiences, but it's been consistently bad now. Giving this review in hopes that the quality of food improves. read more

Well, outstanding would be putting it mildly. First time at TG's. And I am blown away by the chef's special. Ahi Tuna (not farm raised) over Gumbo!, with a side of organic masa whole grain brown rice, a slice of toasted sourdough and a generous organic greens salad. Wow. A delicious adventure defined by flavor, sustainability and value. I did not leave hungry. To call it off, if you order one of their fairly priced house made, non-alcoholic, refreshments (an Agua Fresca in my case) they stop by your table and ask if you'd like a refill?! What? Totally satisfied. Beyond. Tender Greens delights. I will be back. With friends. read more

Was excited to see that one of my favorite salad places is a bit closer to me now in Berkeley. On the pricy side for salads, but the quality is really good and the salads are chock full of ingredients. The staff was very attentive, one insisted on getting me a high chair for my daughter. The space is great. Didn't have a chance to look at the outdoor dining in bank, but the interior space is bright and offers a long community dining option. read more

Excellent fresh food with tons of flavor. Our party tried steak, fish, chicken, salad, veggies: all excellent!

Delicious, healthy, and reasonably-priced food new to Berkeley. I got grilled chicken Cobb salad ($12.50), mint lemonade ($2.50), and Mediterranean chicken garbanzo soup ($5) - all delicious. They definitely don't skimp on the bacon guac or chicken. Could have put some more leafy greens but not complaining too much. The ambience is nice and there's a large outdoor seating area. Will definitely be coming back again and again. read more

Casual and modern salad and sandwich restaurant on University. Really fancy sandwiches and salads here. You get in line to order at the register, and then you get in line to get your meal as its being made. What I really liked was the build it yourself salad. You pick a protein and your greens for your salad. I picked fried chicken and butter lettuce. Outdoor dining in the back. I'd eat here again for sure. read more

Nicois salad - the fish was totally over cooked and the salad was messy-so boo for presentation. The greens and such were good quality but the larger lettuce pieces could have been chopped down. My husband's fried chicken was delish. No complaints there! read more

The staff was unfriendly. Cook said thanks on the way out he seems nice. Salmon was cold is that the style? I duno I like hot salmon.

I absolutely love this place. I've been coming to it shamelessly almost everyday at this point. I love the pozole soup (limited time offering) and the hummus avocado toast and the Mediterranean salad. Actually I can't even rank my favourites. On top of everything the service is so good. One time, my soup arrived bizarrely out of the specs that I was looking forward to. The supervising chef came up to me, apologised and replaced it in the blink of an eye. Honestly, I would come back here as long as they are open. They get super busy during lunch hour so I would come outside of those hours. They have an incredible patio in the back and makes u wish they served breakfast. Don't think about it too much - just go. read more
