(This review was for Brendan's Too) We really like this place, yes we do. In our quest to find places to eat/drink/be merry in our temporary neighborhood, we stumbled across here and keep going back. It is small which we like, the decor is nice (likin' the little fireplace and arm chairs), there's a juke box, and Tommy, the cool bartender, pours 'em stiff and often. He's my new BFF actually. Whatever horrific stink may have been there before is no longer present and they do take credit cards. If you're not into chatting with the bartender or a revolving cast of locals, don't go. If you are into that sort of thing, you'll have a great time. We always do and even after we move away, I'm sure we'll come back. read more

The Templestowe Pub is a most excellent example of how a change of business ownership both honors/maintains the tradition of its predecessor and adds to it with renewed energy and capable hospitality, all of which makes previous customers and newcoming guests bound to be satisfied with their experience. "Brendan's Too" was a fine neighborhood tavern whose tradition is preserved by both a strong sense of neighborly friendliness and the best of vintage material features (e.g. the beer cooler). Yet, Templestowe also adds to its sense of "local" by introducing the pub culture of a proper "public house," where all are welcome, international beer and sports are offered, and quality conversation is unavoidable. read more

Went here a few times, notably last night - nice cozy place, with a decent number of tables and chairs, where you can sit down, enjoy a *conversation* with friends over some drinks, and although they do not have food, you can bring in your own or order from nearby spots to have it delivered. The bartender on duty was cool and very competent - she knew the specials well, served the drinks with ease for my friends and I got my Guinness draught with a nice bit of head - mmm, yummy. Prices seem to be cheap here too. Good stock of beer and they seem to pride themselves of having ciders - I'll have to try it next time, though I am not usually in the mood for alcoholic apple juice, too sweet. The rest of the staff seemed unobtrusively competent too, cleaning off the tables and removing the empty glasses without getting in the way. Parking via electronic meter is available, a Walgreen's is nearby for snacks and stuff, and the area is a bit busy but not overly so, just watch out for crossing pedestrians and the permit only areas for parking in the residential areas. Plenty of taxis, and the #78 CTA bus and nearby Brown line Kedzie station a few blocks away can assist for public transport. Since I live in the burbs, I cannot frequent this spot, but if I did live in Chicago, I would, as its the few bars I feel comfortable, especially going here alone. I can't even list all the great things about Templestowe. Here is a partial list: -Australians -Friendly crowd -Good beers -John, Jen, and Terry -Australians (see: John) -Consistently a great crowd -Events like potlucks during Bears games -Dogs allowed -Not too loud (I'm an old) -Owners really involved in the community -If you throw a party there, they will go out of their way to make it amazing. (They ordered pizza for us when I had a birthday party there--just because.) -Australians I can think of only one negative: No outdoor seating, but at least the windows open onto the sidewalk. After getting kicked out of the outdoor patio at Montrose Saloon up the street bc they didn't bother to post on their website that you need a vax card to get in...even in to the outdoor patio, I was basically stranded in Lincoln Square for 3 hours waiting for my friend who was running our event. So I was feeling pretty irritated when I walked into Templestowe. But all that disappeared when the host handed me a bingo card, which was followed by a free beer (of my choice!) 5 minutes later when I won! It's def a neighborhood spot so I was an outsider but they treated me really well. Steve-o the bartender was awesome, the bingo host was awesome, the other patrons were awesome, the beer selection was awesome and the bathroom was clean. I had a draft nitro chocolatey one that was heaven. I left a good tip bc the bill was so low I was shocked, plus I felt like I was robbing them since I got a free beer, a free shot and a free candy bar from bingo. And rule #1 in the industry is don't be a jerk and not tip on all those freebies. $teve-o deserves his tips!! Super fun night! I highly recommend if you're looking to spice up your Tues...or the dumbasses at Montrose saloon kick you out of their outdoor patio, too. Definitely a great turnaround for my night. read more

Awesome Albany Park Pub. Great Bartenders, plenty of local eats to have delivered to the bar and a great atmosphere. Day drinking here is a must, plus they have a punch card for day drinking to get free drinks. Board games is a plus as well. They have trivia and bingo. read more

Well here's the truth; Yes, the drinks are cheap. Woohoo everybody, cheap drinks at Brendan's Too! Let's all go and get smashed and act like total idiots! Yee haw! In fact, here's the plan: We all get super drunk, we behave super obnoxiously, and then we open all the doors and windows so that the entire neighborhood can be subjected to our stupidity. Doesn't that sound like a great time? Seriously, when this bar opened a couple years ago, we were all very hopeful that it would become the kind of place that would attract customers that could help move our neighborhood forward. Instead, their customers stand outside the bar - smoking cigarettes - and behave in a manner that is nothing short of disgusting. I rarely go to bars, but had the privilege of attending a new year's party at Templestowe and had a wonderful experience. The owner, Teri, was personable and hospitable--a former politico with ambitions to give Chicago an excellent social space/watering hole. This is my go to neighbor pub! Bartenders are great, the owners are nice, and the patrons are friendly. I'm sad that some of the reviews on here are from when they first purchased the bar, because apparently it was a s**thole at the time. It does not smell like sewer anymore, the fireplace is gone, and there are plenty of tables and chairs to accommodate large parties. I just had my birthday party here with over 40 people and never felt crowded. They don't have a kitchen but they have a special menu from Angelo's and you can just add your food to your bar tab, which is super convenient. Also, they are dog friendly and always have treats and a water bowl behind the bar. Highly recommend this place for any occasion- a quick drink, a nine inning Cubs or Sox game, and even a Saturday night out on the town. Go see for yourself! read more

This is such a great place! The owners are super involved and the bartenders are great, especially Terry. The drink specials are delicious, the liquor selection is insane, and the rotating beers are really crafty and neat. It's got a nice, cozy, homey feel, and if you're looking for a recommendation, there's no shortage of tasty beers or cocktails. I'm really indecisive and I've never ordered a bad drink. Templestowe Pub is an incredibly welcomed addition to an increasingly vibrant neighborhood. My English husband has struggled to adjust to our bar culture with giant TVs, bad beer, unfriendly bartenders with the sole qualification of being hot, and dingy lighting. What serendipity for us that just after we move to Albany Park Templestowe opens. This is now our home away from home. The bar is cozy and lacks pretension, while offering a healthy stock of local craft beers and hipster favorites. Although I wish they offered some bar snacks, the owners have generously ordered pizza for the patrons on a few occasions since we've visited. Likewise, we have ordered food for ourselves for delivery and brought food in from the plentiful establishments around AP. Luckily we never saw the bar under the old ownership so this spot is nothing but a gem to us. read more

My sister in law joked the last time we were here that we weren't at Templestowe, we were at Cheers...and she's kinda right! The owners are very friendly and yes, they remember your name! The patrons are equally friendly and we've gotten to know quite a few people from hanging out here. Excellent selection of rotating craft beers. This is our favorite bar in Chicago. We average about once a week at Templestowe and have never had a bad time. The regulars are great and super friendly. The bartenders are knowledgable and are always willing to offer a suggestion. Terry, John, and Jen (the owners) are very hands on and attentive. John is always willing to talk and discuss some Aussie sports. You can find Terry behind the bar discussing the latest tap list, which is always full of local brews. Went to Brendan's Too for the first time last night for some fab live music. The ambience is very nice, you can sit at the bar or at a table or in a couple of comfy chairs by the fire. Friendly bartenders, drink specials, and we found a parking spot right in front that was free after 9pm! Stumbled upon this place on a Sunday funday with my husband and so glad we found it. It happened to be Anzac Day, which we learned is Memorial Day in Australia, and the Aussie owners were truly celebrating with homemade Australian dishes being passed around the bar. I went to this bar mainly because of a long and drawn out bad review. After reading said review, I had to visit this bar. I also picked this bar because I was meeting a friend, and this is between our homes and easy to get to. I went on a Monday evening, so the bar was pretty quiet. The bartender, Tommy, is friendly, and he makes a great bloody mary. There was a sewer-ish smell, but I've been to places that smelled waaaay worse. Truthfully, after a few, the smell was non-exsistant. I think this is a great neighborhood joint, and I would've given it 5 stars if they served food. Thanks, Tommy for the bloody mary! read more

This quaint little bar has definately had it's ups and downs, but after being there last night, I can honestly say they're on the upswing. That awful smell has been banished and the bar was packed with fun people. They've started an open mic night on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays which has been a bunch of fun. Can't wait for new live music tonight! The bartenders, Annie & Tommy are a hoot - guaranteed to make ya laugh!!! 4/20/12 - Wow! Went last night to hear some live music and it was an absolute blast! The band was a trio doing blues/rock and they definately brought the sound. They weren't too loud and they were REALLY talented. Don't believe anyone who says there's no room to dance there - the staff did a great job of creating a dance floor that almost everyone took advantage of. Tommy, the bartender kept the drinks flowing and everybody was smiling and having a blast. The only downer was that the Hawks lost in overtime. Can't wait for next Thursday's open mic! read more
