My entire month of July was spent here with my community, and I loved every single minute of it.The concerts start at 7:00 p.m., but I was always the first one there since I live the closest. I'd show up with my folding chairs, claim a big spot, spread out blankets, and save plenty of room for everyone. Then I'd wait for my friends to arrive. You know the evening is officially about to begin when they play Downey's official city song! I had no idea Downey even had a song, but it's absolutely adorable and always puts everyone in a great mood.Our final concert was extra special--we had a grand total of 22 people at our little gathering! Every week turned into a giant community potluck with everyone bringing something delicious to share. One weekend my friends even surprised me with a birthday party, complete with a decorated table and cake. It made me feel so loved, and it's a memory I'll treasure forever.There's something so peaceful about sitting on a blanket, listening to live music, chatting with friends, and watching the sun slowly set over the park. It's a reminder that some of the best nights don't have to be expensive--they just need good people and good music.The concession stand offered the basics--hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pie, and drinks. I do wish there were a few more food options, but maybe that's something they can expand on next year. Before the concerts, there were booths from local businesses like Lazy Dog, the Downey Theatre, dental offices, and other community organizations offering fun giveaways, games, and raffle prizes. We never won the raffle tree, but we sure had fun trying every week!One of my favorite parts was running into so many familiar faces. It truly felt like the entire community came together to enjoy summer evenings at the park.The only downside? July is over way too fast! I wish the concert series lasted longer because one month just isn't enough.Thank you to everyone who makes these concerts happen each year. Until next summer...

When I would get there the squirrel would come up to you to see if you have some food if not then it would go on its way to looking for food. My wife's phone was dying and needed to send out an important email and some texts. She found an outlet somewhere inside by the office and restrooms and was confronted by one of the workers and said that she wasn't allowed to charge her phone. Some words were exchanged and they even threatened to call the cops. ALL OVER CHARGING A PHONE! They were even rude to our neighbors who were throwing the party at this dump. Very unprofessional! DO NOT.. I REPEAT.. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE FOR A PARTY! It may look nice and appealing but the workers here treated everyone like crap and don't give a damn about anyone or their feelings. Management needs to do something about hiring ignorant and incompetent people to their staff. DO BETTER!!

Unfortunately many who came to play like us just adjusted and played with the tennis nets on the courts. It would be nice if a portable pickleball net was kept here like other parks, but it seems priority is for tennis here (amounting to around 8 tennis courts total here). Needless to say, I like the maintenance at the park here. There were also gated courts for concrete soccer, which was interesting. Lots of gnats flying around the area, but could be due to local weather. Overall a good park to play pickleball but highly recommended once again to have your own net for an optimal experience. * Reservations for courts are able to be made according to the rules sign

Watch for the ducks, geese, turtles and fish just be sure if you hang out with the birds you have shoes that wash off easily. Bunnies are often seen in the shrubs, darling and so fun to spot. They recently gutted this entire park so everything is new. Bring lunch and use one of the picnic tables or find a tree to sit under. This is a great park with a bathroom near the playground, swing in and check it out. The gorgeous flora alone is worth the visit.

Crawford Park, a not-so-well-known park maintained by the City of Downey, is worth a visit if you…read moreare already in the area. Otherwise, there are better parks within short driving distances. The City of Downey must not think much of the park even though there is loads of potential... I found it referenced only once on their website whereas other larger parks are mentioned several times. It's tucked away in a mostly decent neighborhood near Firestone Blvd and Old River School Rd. During my walk to this small public park, I found some of the larger homes and Ranch-style homes with obvious recent renovations to be really interesting and eye-pleasing (3/29/22). This is of course beyond some smaller unkempt homes and apartments. Note also that in typical Downey fashion there aren't many sidewalks in this area. CONS - The enormous power lines that tower high above might be a deterrent for frequent visitors. - Supposedly there is nearby access to Rio Hondo River Trail from this park, but I didn't see it since I avoided many areas due to standing water and mud from a rare thunderstorm the day before. PROS + There is free street parking. One very small lot. + Half basketball court + A small playground for little kids + Plenty of grass to toss a softball, play soccer, and/or play frisbee with the canines + Picnic tables + BBQ grills + A couple of random cement pads + Shade trees As previously stated, the potential is there, but it seems as though the city would rather spend money on other projects.
