However, with additional…read moreencouragement from my Yelp friend, Lilah J, here goes another FTR for a park that's not worth driving across town for, but would make for a nice place to exercise if you happen to be nearby. First things first, Google Maps incorrectly lists this park as "Byron Zinn Park", but Yelp has it correct here with "H. Byrum Zinn Park", at least neglecting punctuation. The park is located on the eastern end of Foster Road where it meets the San Gabriel River. Foster Road does turn south after the park, but it's a restricted area unless you're affiliated with the Storage Outlet located there. When you go east on Foster Road, you'll hit a cul-de-sac, but Foster Road extends past that cul-de-sac towards Storage Outlet. The park is located between that cul-de-sac and Storage Outlet. This park is comparable to Riverview Park, due south along the San Gabriel River by about a mile. Both parks are pretty bare parks that you won't find much else besides a walking trail, benches, trash cans, and transmission towers. Riverview Park is also way longer in length. I walked the length of the trails on both parks back to back, and I estimated Riverview to be about 5 times longer than H. Byrum Zinn. Riverview Park runs from Somerset to Alondra, so that should give you an idea of how large H. Byrum Zinn Park is. Case in point, if you like walking trails and can only choose one Bellflower park to go to on any given day, it depends on how much time you're willing to spend. If you have an hour to spend and want to take a leisurely stroll with a slower-moving friend, choose Riverview Park, but if you don't have that luxury of time and just want to go for a quick 10-minute jog, choose H. Byrum Zinn Park. However, unlike Riverview Park, there is no dedicated parking lot at this park, so you'll have to park either on Foster Road or in an adjacent neighborhood. So far, I've only been to this park twice, and both times, I found plenty of space on either side of Foster Road to park my car, so don't let a lack of a lot deter you from visiting this park! The walking trail in this park goes in a loop, but there's a path in the middle that essentially turns the 0 shape into an 8. There are three pieces of outdoor exercise equipment at this park, one of which can be found on that middle path. It's a jump bar that doesn't really have any description whatsoever of what you're even supposed to do. Actually, there was a description when I visited the first time in fall 2024, but it was ripped and raggedy. I can tell it's supposed to test your balance and agility, but that's pretty much all I can say about this squiggly bar. There's a 3-person static combo at the southern end of the park, which means 3 people can use it simultaneously. There are instructions for using this equipment, and one of my photos shows these instructions that you can read before heading over to the park. The third piece of fitness equipment is on the east side of the trail. I'm thinking it's a leg press, but I couldn't tell for sure. There weren't any instructions for that one, so try to use it in any way you can imagine! lol There is a Community Park & Trail sign that shows the distances of the walking trail, both with the middle path and without. This could make for some creative math problems like, for example, Lilah walks at x% of the speed that Derek walks, and Derek can walk the length of a Figure "8" lap in the time it takes Lilah to walk the length of a regular lap. What is x equal to*? Of course, you wouldn't be able to answer that question without knowing the lap lengths, but I have also posted a photo of the Community Park & Trail sign, so feel free to do the math on that problem lol. Besides the fitness equipment and walking trail, there are only a few benches and trash cans in the park, and that's pretty much it. No playgrounds, no basketball courts, no picnic tables, not even a water fountain. Well, they do have a couple of dog waste stations, but that's pretty much at every park lol. Overall, it's not a bad neighborhood park in the City of Bellflower that if you live within walking distance, it would make for a nice place to take a stroll and catch up with a friend you haven't seen in ages. Don't bring a basketball since that would do no good at this park, but a frisbee or a soccer ball could be useful here with all the open space enclosed within the walking trail. * The answer won't be exact because the lengths are approximate as indicated by the squiggly equal signs, but suppose that these approximations are indeed exact lengths, then x would be equal to 88. Funny how a regular lap is ~88% the length of a Figure "8" lap here. I guess that's why it's called Figure "8" lol

Ideal for cardio, walking, or running, this park features a well-maintained runner's track in the…read morecenter and a designated walking area along the outskirts. The runner's track is clear of debris and exclusively for runners, as indicated by signs. Parking is limited in the designated area, prompting some visitors to park on shaded streets nearby. While there are no public restrooms, two porta-potties are available. Throughout the park, you'll find numerous workout machines, conveniently located, including those near the porta-potties. With multiple entrances, this park is easily accessible, and due to its proximity to a residential area, you might encounter a cat or two. It's worth noting that during my visit, I observed a homeless man sleeping inside the park. Despite this, the park is generally well-kept, although there is an issue with feces in certain areas. On a positive note, there's a Little Free Library near the parking lot, promoting the sharing of books provided by a nonprofit. Operating hours are from 7 AM to 8 PM, ensuring a peaceful environment. Personally, I find the park enjoyable, especially for exercise, though the experience may vary depending on the time and day of your visit. OH and there is a volleyball court sitting on top of sand.

The only downside I have to mention is that recreational football and soccer teams frequently visit for practice, which the park is not set up for. It's quite small and should not be utilized as a sport practice meet up. This is what deters me from visiting more frequently. Parking fills up, balls are flying every which way, and it can get quite noisy. Not my ideal setting for some relaxing cardio. I still recommend this park, as the city of Paramount takes great care and it is regularly maintained nice and clean.

My granddaughters, ages 5 and 9, had a great time on their first fishing trip. Seeing families enjoying outdoor times in the park makes me nostalgic, and I wish my family had enjoyed such moments with me when I was younger. That wasn't quite the case for me, but hopefully, this FTR (First to Review) will be for you if you've stumbled upon this review. Palm Street Park is located on the north side of Palm St between Clark and Lakewood. Honestly, I didn't even know about this park until I was randomly browsing the neighborhood on Google Maps satellite view. It's right by the 91 freeway, but the park is so thin that it's easy to miss from a birds eye view. That, and you also have to zoom in at a certain level to even know that's a park and not some random patch of grass for the cows to graze on. I turned right onto Palm St from Clark, and there was a huge line of cars parked on the street on the right hand side. There was a vacant spot before the start of the line, but as soon as I got out of my car, I noticed a "No parking" sign that indicated we couldn't park between 6 AM and 5 PM. The hour hand had not surpassed the 5 at the time, but like I said, I saw so many cars parked on the street! It confused me, and I wasn't sure if they were patronizing the park or simply visiting their friends/family who lived in the immediate vicinity. Luckily, I remembered that there was a lot somewhere in the middle of the park, so I hopped back in my car and drove to that lot, which was mostly vacant, surprisingly enough. First and foremost, don't bring any sports equipment because there aren't any basketball courts, baseball fields, tennis courts, soccer fields, or anything of the like at this park. There is a playground, walking trail, and a handful of picnic tables, but not much else at this park that you certainly wouldn't want to drive across town for. However, the walking trail does make for a good place to stretch your legs, especially in the middle of a road trip on the 91 freeway. If you're going eastbound on the 91, take the Lakewood Blvd exit; also, if you want to get back on the 91 East, you can get back on directly from Palm St, conveniently enough. If you're going westbound on the 91, take the Clark Ave exit, but you'd have to take the Lakewood Blvd exit to continue towards South Bay. The park may seem long at first glance, but it's really not as long as it may appear. I traversed the length of the park in 9 minutes, and that even included taking some photos along the way to supplement this review. There are two ways to get through this park: of course, the walking trail that I've alluded to in the previous two paragraphs, and the sidewalk. You can go from one end of the park to the other via the sidewalk, but not necessarily the walking trail. Let me try to explain further. On the east end of the park, there's a short trail that cuts through the corner so you don't have to go around the Palm Street Park sign on the corner of Palm and Clark. The trail then ends at the sidewalk, and after a few more feet on the sidewalk, you can hop back on the trail and continue your westerly walk. Why they did it this way, I have no idea, but it was probably for the better, at least during my visit, since I noticed some strange people lingering about between those two segments of the trail. Luckily, they didn't bother me, but they were making quite a bit of noise compared to more upstanding denizens trying to enjoy some quality time for themselves. The trail continues by the hillside where you cross a playground, picnic tables, and the parking lot. After the parking lot, the trail continues, but then you'd reach two junction points that let you branch off to the sidewalk early. Or you can stay on the trail until you can't stay on the trail anymore, which would be about halfway between the parking lot and the west end of the park. After that, the sidewalk will take you to the pedestrian crosswalk, denoting the end of the park. And if you're still not sure you're at the end of the park, there will be double squiggly blue structures that denote the park's end. The north side of the park is pretty much the hillside, and there are signs in the park telling you to stay off the hillside for safety reasons. Even if you were allowed to, there's really no reason or rhyme to ascend the hill since it just leads to a wall, and the freeway is on the other side of the wall. Between the playground and the east end, there's a dropoff zone next to a pavemented area that connects the walking trail to the sidewalk. However, when I visited, I saw short poles at either end of the dropoff zone, prohibiting vehicle entry. You can also find a blue Little Free Library at this park, but when I visited, I saw no books inside. Somewhere along the walking trail, there's an informational sign showing the plants in the park. However, the sign is so filthy it's practically illegible! A missed learning opportunity! Overall, not a bad park, but definitely pales in comparison to Simms Park due north on Clark. And yes, I meant to rhyme here lol
