We sat at the indoor bar, and our bartender was great. The drinks themselves were really good. My Hugo Spritz was excellent, and so was the Silk Sheets. They clearly put a lot into the cocktail program, with tons of syrups, ingredients, and more elaborate drinks on the menu. Unfortunately, the service was incredibly slow, and it seemed very clear that this was not our bartender's fault. The indoor bartender was handling the guests sitting at her bar, service tickets, and drinks for the pool. Meanwhile, the outdoor bartender seemed to have very little going on. Granted, it was over 98 degrees outside, but the workload just seemed really uneven. When we first arrived, it was literally us and one other gentleman at the bar. He wanted an espresso martini or something similar, but apparently the coffee bar had already been shut down for the day. I don't remember the exact reason. They did make it happen for him, which was nice, but it also meant our bartender had yet another thing she had to go out of her way to figure out. What made the wait especially frustrating was that the bar was not busy at the time. It took us around 10 to 15 minutes just to order our drinks, and she didn't actually get a full bar until about 3 to 5 minutes after we finally received them. So this wasn't a situation where she was overwhelmed by a packed bar. She was running out of ice, waiting on things she needed, handling pool and service tickets, and trying to work around a setup that just did not seem efficient. It honestly started to feel almost obnoxious to want to order another round because you could see how much unnecessary work went into making each drink. Again, that is not a criticism of the bartender. She was great and seemed to be doing everything she could. The issue was the setup and flow behind the bar. If you are going to have such an extensive cocktail program, with that many syrups, ingredients, and specialty drinks, the bartenders need to be set up in a way that allows them to actually execute it efficiently. The atmosphere was nice, the drinks we had were great, and I would absolutely give this place another chance. I just hope they figure out a better system because the bartender should not have to work that hard to overcome the setup.

My husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Tempest, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Charleston. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel special with a handwritten anniversary card that was waiting at our table. We were seated near the bar, which ended up being the perfect spot to take in the beautiful mosaic ceiling and enjoy the atmosphere. The food was outstanding. The swordfish was cooked perfectly, the half-pound shrimp was some of the best we've had on our entire trip, and my husband's NY strip was an absolute beast of a steak which was perfectly cooked and so tender it practically melted in your mouth. Tempest also has a wonderful wine selection, and we felt the pricing was very fair for the quality of the food and overall experience. By the end of the meal, we were completely stuffed! There were thoughtful touches throughout the evening that made the experience feel even more special. One of our favorites was the after-dinner cognac service, where we learned about the story behind it being served (you'll have to go yourself to find out!). It was a unique and memorable way to end an incredible meal. What really made the evening stand out, though, were our servers, Grace and Ava. They were warm, attentive, and genuinely fun to talk with. As visitors from the Philadelphia area, it was such a nice surprise to learn they were from the Philly area as well. Those little connections made us feel right at home while celebrating such a special occasion. Thank you to the entire Tempest team for making our anniversary dinner so memorable. We will absolutely be back the next time we're in Charleston! read more

Where to start. I live in Atlanta and visiting a friend. She knows I have high expectations and like the finer things in life. This place is an all around gem. Walking up the outer facade is gorgeous. The hostess was friendly and were seated promptly. (We did have a reso) we sat on the patio which it was a nice night for that. Haley (spelling) was our waitress for the evening. She was phenomenal made great recommendations, very polite and personable, excellent amount of tentativeness, and over all joy. We started with the miso Caesar salad and mushroom agnolotti both were exceptional. Then I had the snapper which was prepared beautifully with a potato "risotto" and my friend got the wahoo which she said was great. We ended with the honey pot de creme. The toffee on top was to die for. The check presentation was next level. One of the coolest touches I have seen in my endless dining pursuit of excellence. We also spoke with Daphne (the manager) and thanked her for the wonderful experience. She was an absolute delight as well. All around home run. Highly recommend. Will be back on my next trip to Charleston. read more

I recently celebrated a late birthday dinner at Tempest. It was a lovely experience overall. The ambiance of the restaurant was charming, with beautifully designed interiors and good music. For my meal, I ordered the Steak frites accompanied by shoestring fries . While the steak was cooked exactly as I requested, I found the overall meal to be just okay. The highlight of the dinner was undoubtedly the Ocean rolls. The service we received was outstanding. Dalton, our server, did an amazing job, making sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. To add a special touch to our celebration, Dalton surprised us with a toast for my birthday, complete with a shot of brandy. They also presented us with beautiful red carnations and a complimentary dessert, which was a delightful surprise. In summary, Tempest provided a wonderful setting for a birthday dinner. The exceptional service and thoughtful gestures made the evening truly memorable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion! read more

I recently had an amazing meal at Tempest in Charleston. The food was absolutely delicious, and one of the best meals I've had in the city. The attention to detail around the physical experience from the dishware with creative colorful prints to higher end glassware to comfortable seating is truly exceptional. It should be the ideal setting for a wonderful meal, but it falls short with service and the quality of the food for its price point. This review spans three visits. You get a lot of insight from time at the bar. Two of our experiences were at the bar. In both instances, the bartenders were less experienced, and not super attentive. During one of our visits, the bartender got two of our orders wrong. On another occasion, our order was pasta, and it took more than five minutes to get the bartenders attention to provide Parmesan cheese. These are the little details that kept getting missed. My wife had a second glass of wine and the bartender suggested a different vintage that was $23 a glass. She didn't let us know. She responded not by saying sorry, but saying they raised the prices recently on everything. The bartenders just seemed undertrained, looking at how to make mixed drinks. Not what you would expect for this level of restaurant and price point. It seems to be a training issue. During one visit, our server was very nice and attentive. For me, the food was the biggest challenge. The oysters were fresh and very flavorful and well presented. The Stagionale salad with walnuts, goat, cheese, beets, masculine greens, marinated pears, and an apple vinaigrette didn't have the flavor profile I would expect and was rather dull, probably due to too little vinaigrette and raw walnuts that were flavorless. The tortellini Wagyu missed the mark without the complex flavor profiles you would expect. It was so subtle making it unremarkable. The pollo Milanese was the most disappointing. The chicken was dry probably because it was so thin. It had more crust than chicken substance more like Popeyes chicken. The pineapple in the arugula threw me off and was not traditional. Rarely do we not finish a dish, but in this case we didn't. We tried the restaurant several times to give it a fair assessment. I want it to be successful. I debated what score to give to give. In the end, it wasn't average, it was disappointing. Note that I did provide feedback to management on my visits and it was appreciated, but I don't think it really landed. Hopefully, Lagami will quickly adjust and deliver excellence in this amazing location on King Street.

The crab cake was probably the standout item for me -- almost entirely crab with basically no filler or breading and really great flavor. It's not a huge entrée portion by itself, but with appetizers it was definitely filling enough. The shrimp dish was also delicious and full of flavor, and the salmon appetizer was really fresh and very good too. The drinks were good as well. My pineapple daiquiri was MUCH stronger than I expected, but honestly still really good. As a nice Mother's Day touch, they were giving complimentary mimosas to guests walking in and also handing out red roses to all of the moms, which was really thoughtful. It is definitely on the pricier side, but not outrageous for Charleston brunch, especially considering the quality of the food and service. Overall we had a really nice experience and would definitely go back.

I also had one of most delicious cocktails I've had in my life. My husband liked his martini, but that's pretty routine. I wish I remembered all that was in my drink, but it was special that day and it was delicious. I also enjoyed the local oysters. They were small compared to Key West, but they were absolutely fantastic! The restaurant is in charming two-story house. It has a cute balcony where there is at least I have at least eight tables that look out over the street. It's one of those places where you could sit at the dinner table for hours to enjoy the evening.
