I went here on a Saturday night for the first time and had a blast. The bar was moderately crowded and there was a live band playing. There was an interesting mix of people and our server was very friendly. The building is one a kind in Tempe and the menus have the story behind it. The interior is new inside and the outdoor seating is nice as well. I will be back as this place is fun, clean, reasonably priced, and in a great location. read more

Burgers are ridiculously good.. The bread is fresh and flaky, the fries and onion rings are both delicious. I also go for a salad on my occasion. I go almost every Monday. I have to order my burger with one pattie, since 2 is more than I can handle. All the burgers (except The Killa) has 1/2 lb of meat. They have a great selection of burgers. You like chilies? Stopped in after Black Sabbath concert. great selection of canned beers the beers were cold and served by a very efficient crew of bartenders. Hi! I fucking like this place. Yea its a dark warm dump next to a porn store with a glory hole operation but what ev, 2-4-1 happy hour drinks! Better than average bar food and quality burgers all for a fair price. Also a great beer selection. A vast variety of craft and micros available in can and they get different stuff all the time. Food is amazing and pretty affordable. Happy hour drinks are a good deal. I like that it's located near a light rail stop. This helps to avoid drunk driving. The staff here has always been friendly. if you are sitting at a table, they do not have a waitress that comes to your table to serve you - you need to go up to the bar to order. They also have free wi-fi. They have large tables if you have a large group of people with you. read more

The service was horrible right when we walked trough the door. Although we're a group of 12 girls for a bachelorette, we didn't come in acting annoying but the bartenders treated us like we did. They yelled from the other side of the bar that we needed to bring our IDs to them and never came to us. Expected us to come to them when they only had 5 people in the bar. We liked the fact that it was located along the light rail so we could have drinks and use public transit. Best happy hour in Tempe. Buy One Get One burgers during Monday Night Football has us showing up every week. Great bar food that costs between 5 and 9 dollars a person. Their always affordable "1810" house brew is light but hoppy enough to give a little character to your night. During happy hour it's 2 for $2.50 for these pints and well drinks. Located right next to the light rail, so if you live conveniently next to a stop, you don't have to worry about getting home safely. Open mic nights are pretty brutal but are manageable a few drinks in. Typically a good clean crowd despite the dive bar appeal. read more

Really nice beer selection, and the food was good. The venue part of the bar is nicer than you would expect, and the sound guy and PA system are great. The drinks were a little overpriced though, not by much, but considering a few other things, it was a bit irritating. Which brings me to my next point... The bartenders are terrible. Literally, some of the worst I've experienced.They can't mix drinks to save their lives, are rude, and almost go out of their way to give poor service. The waitstaff seemed to be better though. The other thing that seemed off was that they also require an ID in addition to a debit/credit card to start a tab. read more

Extremely disappointed. Started off with a wonderful experience with our bartender 'cherie'... Whom introduced us to the honey hot wings, $3 bloody Mary's, $2beermosas and $5 margaritas. Our new waitress Frannie, who was more focused on bar backing than serving, came on the clock and decided to switch up the pour and pricing to $6 bloody Marys. My original bartender was still there and actually backed us and called out the new bartender on shift out and she insisted on fighting us about the pour and pour count. Sorry honey but I've grew up in this industry and I'm not ignorant. Frannie came over with the bottle and just poured alcohol on top of the drink to shut us up/make us happy but it was the principle. I'd been there for 5hrs just watching soccer and making conversation with our bartender and leisurely drinking on the $3 special blood Mary's they do on Saturdays. Sadly I will not be back. I have my thirtieth birthday next week and was planning on bringing a large crowd and making a huge function out of it after Cherie told me to contact the owner but I've got a sour taste in my mouth. Way to flip my my pov in a matter of minutes Frannie. I've never been so insulted by a bartender. Terrible service. Tonight I asked if I could try a beer and I was told no. I can sort of understand the policy but the bartender could have mentioned that she could pour me a taster for a dollar before being rude about the whole thing. The beer I did get had lipstick all over the rim of the glass. Disgusting. When my husband asked for a spoon for the guacamole the response was "what for?" and he wasn't given one. All this plus the problem with kicking out the transgender woman a couple years ago makes this a place to avoid. read more

I was really hoping to find a welcoming watering hole along the light rail route, so I gave this place a try. Lots of tap handles and a few from the PacNW! The place is old and dark with some tv's around, however, the length of the bar in front has so many tap handles that you cannot even see the bartender that you are ordering from. Kind of odd, but oh well! Didn't try the food, but what made me a 1 and done customer was the person in construction attire (maybe she is a flagger?). Sitting in the corner playing a video game but in between swills on her drink or beer, she was drilling and drilling for buggers and placing them in various spots located to the corner where she was stationed. Might be a regular, but this incessant "nose picking" continued non-stop during my one beer (or 12 minute stop) I quickly checked to see if any "gummies" were attached to my pants or shirt and left! read more

I have been coming to Tempe Tavern at least weekly since I moved here a few months ago. They have great happy hour specials and if that isn't enough to bro g you back, the staff is. Most of the bartenders are genuinely cool people who can relate to their customers and take really good care of them. If you come often enough you get to see nights where they have to deal with some pretty crazy situations. Makes for a good laugh. Between Sarah dealing with a toothless cowboy who asked her to take her clothes off, and Fran slipping into a bucket and having to strip down to a tank-top (which looked like a sports bra) it's always a good time. A bar is just a place to drink, it's the people who work there that make it a great place to keep coming back to. The staff at Tempe Tavern are a pretty cool group who sometimes have to put up with a lot of BS, often as the only employee in the joint, so if you go and you have a bad experience don't be too quick to judge. The bartender on duty has probably been alone, stressed, and busy for close to 7 hours. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I guarantee that if you give this place a chance, you'll keep coming back. read more

Like the other reviews say, this place is definitely a dive bar, so don't have too high of hopes coming in. Foods always good, service has been very poor the last few times I've been there. They didn't bring my beer out until about 20 minutes after I ordered it ( My group of 2 were the only ones in the dining room area at the time.) Food took about 45 minutes for 2 burgers and onion rings. Other than that though, it's a great place to have a beer and chow down on some greasy bar food. read more

Tempe Tavern has lost my business. I was a loyal customer. I came from the basketball game and I agreed to meet a friend there for drinks. The bouncer tells me I will not be served. I asked him why. He said because you swayed. Confused look, I swayed, I say. He says, you can go elsewhere, not here. This is the 2nd time this has happened. The first time, the bouncer got the Owner, the Owner comes out and says, yeah, you can stay. I've lost all respect for Rob the Owner, the establishment itself for discriminating. I am a huge supporter of small business. The word is out, I will no longer recommend this place. read more

tempe tavern has a pre-pay policy. you must pay cash or credit card before being served. quite tacky when taking family or friends out. not only they not trust their customers its obvious they could care less. i called them and asked if this was regular policy, and the bartinder just went off on me. she would not let me talk at all and went off on what to me was a crack-head tangent. so sorry she is, and too bad for the business and heard working persons of the neighborhood. read more

On October 13th, I went to this establishment to see my boyfriend's band play. I was there for about an hour and a half and everything was good. Later, I found my self by the east side of the bar with a friend and we were trying to get drinks, all of a sudden a rude female employee starts yelling at my friend and tells him to, "move! You can't stand here. This area has to be clear, get out of the way!" and lightly shoves him away. My friend and I look at one another with dislike, but we get over it and move out side. About an hour later I return to the bar with another friend and we are on the East side of the bar, we were not standing in "the area" but close to it and the same rude female employee yells at my other friend and says, "you need to get out of my way! I have a job to do here, why can't you people understand that?! Move!" I approach the female employee in a non-threatening manner and say, "excuse me, but we are not in your way, there is plenty of room for you to get through to receive your orders. You don't have to yell at us and you could ask in a more professional manner." Then the rude female employee starts arguing with me, trying to justify her unorthodox customer service skills. My friend and I eventually leave outside again and forget about it. About another hour later I went to use the ladies restroom (NOTE: The ladies room is directly across from "the area" where the rude employee yelled at my friends.) I come out of the restroom and stand there for a little while trying to spot my boyfriend, then, to my luck, the same female employee comes toward me and says, "you're going to have to move! How many times do I have to tell you!" I told her, "you need to stop yelling at me like I am a child, and you really need a lesson on customer service. I am not in your way there is plenty of room for you to walk here," (there were people everywhere, but she chose to yell at me.) She starts arguing with me again. I back up a couple of feet and say, "Is this far enough? Do you need more room? I don't see why you have to be so rude." The rude female employee continues to argue with me and threatens to have me kicked out! I then ask a bartender to speak to a manager and she said the owner was there and I could talk to him. The owner comes to the bar and ask's what's up, I tell him about his rude employee while she is standing there, and she lies to him that I have been giving her problems all night. I try to testify my complaint to him and he seems indifferent. His demeanor showed that he didn't care and he basically blew me off. I will not come back to this business because the owner doesn't take customer complaints seriously and he allows his employees to treat customers like dirt. I will not spend my hard earned money at Tempe Tavern, where customers are not appreciated. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT VISIT THIS BUSINESS, BEWARE OF A 90 lb. female, mid 20's, Caucasian female with short brown curly hair and a bad attitude. AND STAY OUT OF THE AREA ON THE NORTH CORNER OF THE EAST SIDE OF THE BAR DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE LADIES BATHROOM OR YOU MIGHT GET YELLED AT AND TREATED LIKE CRAP. TO THE OWNER AND EMPLOYEES: IF YOU DON'T WANT ANYONE NEAR THAT AREA, PUT THE ENTRANCE TO THE SHOW ROOM SOMEWHERE ELSE AND PERHAPS PUT A SIGN UP AND TAPE THE ARE OFF SO YOU WON'T HAVE PEOPLE GOING EVEN NEAR IT. read more
