    Original ramen

Was their original ramen the very best I've ever had? Maybe not, but it came pretty close and I'd be happy to go back for it. Firstly, the fact that this is a family owned business earns them a bonus point from me. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the food came out without delay. The vibe? We were eating ramen surrounded by Japanese groceries, so the vibe couldn't have been better. But the star was the ramen, where everything hit the mark for me. The pork and chicken bone broth was perfect in thickness and seasoning, the egg had been perfectly soft boiled, the pickled ginger had a kick to it but all in all added extra interest, and the pork belly was thicker and had a more 'grilled' flavour to it than I'm used to. And I love that they gave two, instead of the usual one, seaweed because I like tearing it into smaller pieces for each bite. We'll be back for sure. The only question is when.

Went in on a cold snowy day to slurp on some hot ramen. I asked for their most popular ramen and the person helping suggested their tonkotsu Ramen. I went with the same and got the ramen in like 5 minutes, extra hot as I had requested. It was a basic ramen with 2 seaweed papers, some daikon radish, ginger, semi boiled egg and exactly 2 pieces of chaushu pork. The broth was great, loved it, could have just had a bowl full of broth. I am used to the pork being soft and falling apart, this one was a little tough and the ramen noodles were usual. It was a very basic ramen and it filled me up. Sipping broth were the moments that I enjoyed.

Hidden in the back of a small Japanese mini mart is Teinei Ya Ramen. This has become my GO TO Place for curry katsu. Ambience: this is set up like a food court stall in the back of a mini mart. You walk up to the counter, order your food, wait 5-10 minutes, pick up your food, and go find a table. There are a few tables across from the order counter, and extra dining room around back. You need to clean up after yourself because there is no table service. Food: We ordered: Original Ramen - a tonkatsu type broth ramen with some char sui (pork belly). Broth was rich and savory. Ramen was a little Al dente. 4/5 Curry Pork Katsu - crispy fried pork cutlet with curry sauce. This is currently the best I have had in Long Island 5/5 Takoyaki - fresh fried octopus balls. Creamy and delicious 5/5 Blue Fin tuna sashimi - now I know why people pay so much for the tuna from that show "wicked tuna". Once you try bluefin, you can't go back to yellowtail tuna. 5/5 Value - the food here is better than most sit down Japanese places that I have been to. The prices are a bargain.

We checked out Hanamaru today and decided to stay for lunch @ Teinei Ya Ramen. Been to both their Little Neck (closed) and Great Neck locations before so definitely can't skip this one. The location is somewhat convenient being only 3 miles off the Long Island Expressway (Exit 40 E). It is inside the Hanamaru Japanese Mart and there is also a parking lot with a limited number of spots. There were three of us and we got 4 appetizers- fried chicken, gyoza, takoyaki & chicken cutlet as well as 3 entrées- dan dan ramen with roasted pork, eel bowl, and chicken katsu curry. The fried chicken was moist as can be and dark meat was used so it helped maximize the juicy level. The gyoza was cooked to perfection and the takoyaki (octopus balls) had the closest taste to actual genuine food from Japan. The dandan ramen was really good, broth was rich & savory and the pork was flavorful. My son had the chicken katsu curry, he said it was delicious 8/10 and would eat it again. I personally liked the chicken cutlet better without the curry. My husband loves eel so we chose to pay extra for live eel in the eel bowl instead of that frozen stuff ($36 vs $16.50). This made so much difference with the smokiness and presentation was immaculate with it being served in a fancy red box. There is minimum dine-in seating so get here early if you plan to eat in. Service was excellent with individuals always happy to answer any questions. It is self-service so you order and get your food from the counter and there is also a hot/ cold water dispenser. If you're craving Japanese food, this place is worth trying.

I met up with a friend for dinner here earlier in the week. I didn't know there was a Japanese market in Syosset but my friend said it was pretty good so I decided to give it a shot. I believe this shop has a location in Great Neck as well, which I tried before and thought was decent. The dine-in space is just a small area in the back of the market, with about two tables or so. There is no table service, which is a plus in my book; you just grab your food when it comes out. So I got the R4 Red Spicy ramen ($15), and my friend got the R3 Teinei original ($13). We also split a Takoyaki ($5.50). Total came out to $36.39 with tax included. I have to say that my experience was disappointing. To start off, they served our ramen in paper bowls. Whenever anyone gets a bowl of ramen, they usually want to sip some of the broth to get an idea of the flavor. There was so little broth in the paper bowl, and a lot of it got absorbed by the bowl itself. So there was little to no broth to sip before getting to the noodles. The broth tasted fairly good, but was a little cold and wasn't anything special. So that was a bummer. The takoyaki was actually pretty delicious. I haven't ordered much takoyaki in the past, but the balls came out piping hot and had a lot of flavor. Unfortunately, it's only 4 small balls for $5.50. That means that each tiny ball costs more than a dollar... which makes me sad. I actually didn't get a picture of it but for that price I think we should have gotten at least like 8 balls. Honestly, the ramen itself tasted pretty good and there was nothing too offensive about it. It wasn't spicy at all either, for those of you who are curious about the spice level. But much like the takoyaki, I have to comment on the price to quality / quantity ratio. After going to some of the pretty decent ramen spots in NYC, I would expect something better for $15. It also wasn't a large amount of food and thus not too filling. So I felt it really should not be near the $15 mark for what I got. So I'd rate this place 2 stars due to the reasons above. The young lady at the counter seemed nice and I'm glad there were no customer service type of issues to report from my visit. Cheers.

One of my favorite ramen spots in Long Island. This place is located within a small Japanese supermarket. I'm a huge fan of the Teinei Ya Great Neck location, but this one is closer to me so I decided to try it out! It did not disappoint. My go-to order is the Dan Dan. I usually add seaweed and extra sliced pork on top. They have condiments that are packaged in small containers. There is a small seating area in the store with additional seating in the back as well as outdoors. The employees wear masks and are very polite. There is a bathroom that is well kept. All in all, a solid ramen spot!

This is the picture from the seating area. Cute grocery in front.

Based on the reviews I really wanted to like this place. In fact, I ordered the original and it was very tasty. My friend ordered the spicy chicken ramen and he only ate a little bit. He was expecting the chicken to be recognizable. Instead it looked like pressed cutlet-like chicken. Also, the restaurant is in the back of a small store. And the seating area is bench style, so you may be eating with another family. If you want authenticity this is it. Lastly, staff was very friendly and the food came out promptly

Decent ramen in the back of a Japanese grocery in the middle of Syosset was not on my bingo card. Teinei Ya has had spots all over Queens and Nassau but this place might be the best of their iterations. The ramen menu here is similar to their other places but the best of the bunch is the red plus which has a nice deep broth and excellent toppings. Other ramen was decent but not great. What's great about this spot is you can also buy items from the Japanese mini mart and eat it together. Prices are fair and food comes pretty quick. I guess if I'm going to gripe, eating in the back of a supermarket might not be the best dining experience but if its about the food, you won't mind as much. Thumbs up.

    Tempura Udon
    Meri L.

Home sick and needed some soup. Wanted to try this place for a while, and saw that delivery was available via GrubHub. I decided on tempura udon. It was very yummy and perfect cure for being sick. Very filling with different veggies and lots of noodles. The broth had excellent flavor. The veggies had a very light tempura batter and were flavorful. I would definitely order it again. Delivery was very fast! It came quicker and earlier than the estimated time. Soup was a good size and could be made into at least two different meals. I would definitely order again and try other things.

This ramen place is located inside the Hanamaru Japanese grocery store. We really like the ramen here. The spicy ramen were full of flavor. Service was good. Staff were polite. Worth stopping by if you live or happen to be around the neighborhood.

The salmon teriyaki bento-box, Yaki, udon, chicken teriyaki, seafood soondubu soup (surprised to see that on the menu ) and lastly, one of their special rolls. The salmon teriyaki was cooked pretty well no complaints came with a sushi roll and beef negimake, shrimp tempura all cooked well. The Yaki udon and chicken teriyaki were cooked well too really no complaints with any of the food. Service was adequate nothing special , the booths were a little bit uncomfortable I would advise sitting at the tables with regular chairs instead. The pricing on the food is reflective of the area that the restaurant is located in which is Woodberry and many of the restaurants around the area charge accordingly of course I probably would've never come here if it wasn't for my AMEX promo, but if I had to, I would come back and maybe just try their lunch specials.
