The dining room is small, maybe 8 tables total. We each ordered a half order of the crispy thighs- his all spicy, and I got half plain and half honey butter with a side of truffle mayo and vegetable kimchi fried rice to share. Even without the rice it was a decent amount of food. The food came out really fast (though menu said the chicken could take up to 25 mins). Stopped by Pelicana in Plainview and ordered the chicken with scallion and garlic sauce on the side. The chicken came out very tasty and the sauce was surprisingly good. Having it on the side actually made the meal better because you can adjust how much flavor you want each time you bite into a piece. It is also nice to have a Pelicana in Plainview since Korean fried chicken spots are getting more popular and this location adds a great option to the area. Food wise I cannot complain. Everything was cooked well and it pairs nicely with the beer they serve. The only drawback was the service situation with our order. Our server told us that three pieces of chicken were dropped in the kitchen so they would bring out the full order except those three pieces and make the missing ones afterward. After we finished eating they completely forgot about the three pieces but when we reminded them they brought them out and honored it which made the overall service decent in the end. The service continues to be great - attentive and courteous but not annoying. We got the rice cake noodles with ramen this time along with everything else - level 2. I enjoy spicy things and the level 2 was perfect for myself and the kids. The only thing was that the rice cake should have simmered longer as once eaten it's a little bland, so we just dipped it more into the soup on the bottom and I'll just simmer it when I get home. An average Korean chicken place, but with great attitudes amongst the staff. Now, I've had Pelicana in the motherland when I was little... but my dad swore up and down that the food here was better than the chicken, so I hopped on a chance to try on a weekday night. For a random weekday night, this small joint was fully crowded. I tried a little bit of the budae jjigae, or "Army stew" which was just ok. But budae jjigae is never my favorite, so that was expected. I heard a lot about the tteokbokki, so I was excited to try it. It landed right in the middle of slightly-bland-but-hearty homemade tteokbokki and intensely-sweet-and-spicy street tteokbokki, which is to say it was both bland and unhealthy tasting. The rice cakes did have the right chew, so it may suit some tastes. The scallion chicken is my family's and my favorite out of the lot, though the garlic and scallion taste can be quite intense. The citrus flavor helps cut through the greasy chicken. I had some as leftover the next day, and I can say it still works well on the soggy breading of the reheated chicken. The regular fried chicken, I felt ambivalent about. It was a well fried chicken, just not anything that has Pelicana stand out among the crowd. The crispy exterior we all think of when it comes to Korean Fried Chicken, but no seasoning penetrating further. And the same went for the dipping sauce, which could have been from any of the many Korean chicken franchises we have now. I was especially sad for the "spicy sauce" which is homeland Pelicana's signature and claim to fame (they were the first franchise to feature Korean-ised spicy sauce chicken). The thing that lifts Pelicana above the 3 star rating I was going to give it was the excellent service we received. The servers must have all been very young men, but they were so professional. We watched them gently usher out a table that had long overstayed their meal. They were attentive to our requests and made accommodations for our changing party size. They tackled recovery for customers who had been waiting in line for a long time. For a store this size during a very unusual dinner rush, I thought the staff gave excellent customer service. read more

I ordered the Cajun fries, which surprisingly is the best I've ever had by far. It has this tang and super spice to it. Must try. Also had the soy garlic wings, which were good as well but not as crispy as i would've preferred . I've been told by someone that this is the real Korean fried chicken, unlike MFC, which is Americanized. So I'll let you be the judge of that. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the boneless whole chicken thighs. (I thought they were a tad chewy) But my son devoured 80% of the plate. The food was amazing with the chicken being extremely crispy on the outside. My sister wasn't a fan of the honey garlic because it was too sweet for her, but it was perfect for me. Last time we tried the original spicy and I would recommend that. The waiters were pretty quick with taking our orders and checking in on us, but the wait for the food was very long. It took about 35-45 minutes for our food to come out. There were a decent amount of people in the restaurant eating here and also a handful ordering takeout. We walked in and the place was empty, a good thing for good service! A very nice young gal seated us and took our order. They are offering bottled beer and Soju at 50% off so we took advantage and got a Corona and a Pure Soju to start. The server helped us with the menu choices. We decided on the whole bone in chicken original prep with side sauces of Garlic and Spicy BBQ. Was a great choice and all the pieces were crisp and juicy! Our other server, a young man CJ was very nice and proffered a comp dessert for us; Twisted Machi Donut..a Korean version of Churros...delish and a great finale to a wonderful meal. So happy to have a nearby korean fried chicken place. My friends and I tried the soy garlic wings, the regular fried chicken, and the crispy fried chicken. The regular and crispy fried chicken were SO crispy, piping hot, and so tender. I love soy garlic wings though and these were pretty good too, although not as crispy as Bonchon's. Each order came with slaw and pickled radish which helped cut cleanse the palate. Also got army stew which was good, but I wish had more kimchi/spam/sausage/veggies.
