Walked in and was greated immediately by a nice young attendant. The place was pretty well kept and proper. I didnt know what I wanted at first and the young attendant was very helpful in aiding me with that. After my order was placed I might have waited something like 7-8 minutes until my food was ready. ZERO STARS! I repeat ZERO STARS! Zero zero zero! If I could, NEGATIVE 5 on a 5 star rating. Went to order in person since their website does not actually say what Southern style fried chicken is. Went in, man behind the counter looked up then looked back down. I moved over to the girl behind the counter. Waited my turn then asked about the Southern style. She whispered "I really don't know." I figured she's new so no biggie, she can ask someone else, right? I asked if I could have all thighs. She said I could, if I am ordering white meat. I corrected her and said it's all dark meat. She said yes I can have all thighs. Phone rang. Without saying anything to me, she ran to the phone on the other side of the counter and picked up the phone. No one else acknowledged me. I asked the person next to me if she knew what Southern style was. She was an Uber driver. She has never tried the chicken. (Ugh!). I tried to get the man's attention, who seems to be the Manager. I was ignored. I raised my voice in a respectful tone. Nothing. I raised my voice louder. Finally he said "it's spicy." I had to ask for clarification. They had a sign that says "new spicy chicken!" (Paraphrased this.) I asked what the difference was. One is spicy and one is really spicy. I asked if I could mix & match and if I could get all thighs. He said no. The Uber driver asked for me if I could have different styles. I guess my voice is too mild to be heard because he answered her. But he said I couldn't have all thighs. (But the girl earlier said yes, I could have all thighs, if I am choosing dark meat.) Manager said I can have legs & thighs. I said okay, I would like to order. "No, you have to order with her." She is still on the phone. I asked if I ordered online, would it be easier? He said that I should wait for the girl. She's almost done. So I waited and placed my order. I had to repeat myself 5x without exaggeration. I eventually had to write it down. 8 piece bucket $17.71 (3 originals, 3 Southern & 2 spicy.) I also wrote "mostly thighs please." Manager came to me. "No." Huh? " I will give you 4 originals (2 thighs, 2 legs) 2 Southern (1 thigh, 1 leg) & 2 spicy, (1 thigh, 1 leg.) I told him I wanted 3/3/2. He said no. He's not going to give me that. If I wanted breast, he can. I told him I only liked thighs but I will take the drumstick but could he accommodate mostly thighs because it is what my family likes. We've gotten take out from chicken delight a couple times. The first time we were impressed with the decent amount of food for a somewhat cheap price. This time I'm left wanting. I was so excited for some tasty cheesy, bacon covered potato skins and instead we got plain crispy potato skins...with no toppings. When hubby called to ask if there should be toppings on the skins, the guy who answered the phone responded "of course" and said they couldn't deliver them but offered no refund, coupon for future purchase...nada and then ended up hanging up on my husband. We've been coming to this establishment for the past 3 years on occasion and had never been disappointed. Most recently, we came here on New Year's Eve. The girl at the register is clueless and doesn't know how to work the register. (She's NOT new. The last time we were here, which was at least 9 months ago, she was the one who took our order, and it was the same thing back then.) We wanted to order the 16 piece chicken. We asked if we could do 8 pieces original and 8 pieces spicy. She couldn't, for the life of her, figure out how to do that on the register. She called over the manager/owner. He didn't know how to do it either. (We were very surprised that this request isn't made enough by customers for them to not know how to do this.) Then he said, "Oh, do it this way. Put it in separately, 8 pieces original and 8 pieces spicy." We immediately questioned if there would be a price difference because 8 pieces cost $16.30 (x2 = $32.60) and 16 pieces cost $29.25. Now, $3.35 isn't really a lot, but again, it kind of is... And most importantly, it's the principal. The manager/owner immediately said, "No, there won't be. I'll take care of that." He punches in the chicken portion of our order and goes away. We place the rest of our order with the girl, which took a VERY long time to do, because she just simply doesn't know their menu and how to use their register. We had to correct her and repeat our order at least 3 times for her to get it right. We paid and stepped to the side to wait for our food. While waiting, we decided to look at our receipt. Lo and behold, we were charged 2 8-pieces at $16.30 each! (Not sure why simply putting in one order of 16 pieces in the register and if you can't specify what kind of flavor/style, then just write it on the receipt so the person putting the order together will know!) We were going to mention it to the manager/owner to see if he would make the situation right, but he was busy in the back and the place was so unorganized. The counter that appeared to be the pick up area was not being used at all. Instead, they were using the small counter where the register is, to give people their order and everyone crammed there. GrubHub/Uber pickups were also confused where to go and it just made the whole place chaotic. While the food itself is edible and even enjoyable, the service and the straight up lying to customers are what could make them lose (my) future business. read more

This is a neighborhood icon. The menu has solid offerings - the fried chicken is of course the star of the show. YES it is greasy, as fried chicken is FRIED (don't understand some of the reviews complaining about the grease). They also have Buffalo Wings that are tastier and cheaper than the chain restaurants. I have always loved getting the fried clams and shrimp. DELICIOUS! The interior is a tiny bit dated, but I find it homely, and quite honestly I would rather that they keep their prices low instead of hiking them up to pay for a cosmetic change. I hate giving out bad reviews but I had a pretty horrible experience when I came to Chicken Delight in October. I had been here once prior to this and had ordered the chicken sandwich lunch special combo. I thought it was pretty good, so I stopped by again in October. The interior of the place is a bit dated but it is adequate; there are enough seats and it's not completely dirty or anything. They don't take credit card for orders under $10, so that was kind of a bummer. So I ordered the chicken sandwich combo again ($6.52 with tax included). Kudos for having a cheap lunch special, but when I tasted the sandwich I felt like they changed the chicken cutlet they used from my previous visit. The chicken in the sandwich was the cheapest, most processed piece of garbage I've ever tasted. I felt like it was one of those processed chicken patties that come in packages of 20 that you can buy for $1 at a no name dollar store somewhere. After I took one bite I immediately threw out my meal. The fries were fairly decent and I noticed that the ketchup and barbeque sauce I got here were both pretty low quality. Even the bun on the chicken sandwich was pretty bad. I left after throwing out my meal and went to Taco Bell. I acknowledge that my experience was for the chicken sandwich lunch special combo only. Small parking lot, small restaurant with less than stellar AC (it's more a grab & go type place, anyway). Staff is always friendly. Chicken Delight is definitely my favorite fried chicken (when I'm not at Harolds in Chicago.) Not that I'm comparing since nothing is like Harold's Fried Chicken. I really like the team that Jim (the owner) has assembled here. You walk in and get a hello, how may I help you without standing around for five minutes. Even when their busy, you're immediately acknowledged. They move so much chicken that's it's always freshly cooked, perfectly... Golden brown and not greasy, crispy (very important) and well cooked tender meat. Fries are also cooked well and are tasty. The restaurant is definitely set up for a good amount of people to dine in and there is also enough room to wait (not that I have ever had to wait more than a couple of minutes) for take-out. I remember when there was a Chicken Delight on every corner, but alias they have all turned into Sushi or Starbucks. The pricing is extremely fair and I definitely recommend this location if your looking for an easy lunch or dinner and don't feel like cooking and are looking for "the crunch." PROS and CONS for our first ever visit. PRO: VERY nice friendly service . PRO: good portions (half chicken w/ fries = $14.00 ish) PRO: ample parking. PRO: VINTAGE signs and statues inside (along with modern collected stuff). CON: The bar-b-que sauce from the dispenser was DISGUSTING . CON: The ketchup dispenser was at a low angle and configuration that - when you filled one of them tiny paper cups - the tip of the squirt nozzle dipped INTO your cup - UNSANITARY! BBQ pulled pork, Spanish rice, cornbread, half rack of ribs, chicken box, are some of the things I order off the menu. You can literally see them making the food in front of you well for the most part. Dine- Not really that type of restaurant where you want to have a fancy meal served to you. Yes they have table and chairs but nothing to go crazy about. The few times that I did dine in. It was cold winter months and I honestly didn't feel enough heat pumping out for me. Food quality still remains the same. Catering- Yes I have used CD many many many time to cater to a function or event that I'm having. I think my biggest event was my baby shower and yes they catered to over 200 people and not one person was disappointed. I literally had people texting me the next day. Who made the chicken and cornbread and Spanish rice ect...... Once I told them it was catered and I got it from CD they was like oh we picking you up and we taking a trip there now. They needed that Chicken in their life. So every time my friends want chicken they know where to go. The catering process was amazing. Although the area could be construed as sketchy, the place has been there 50 + years and is a worthwhile stop if in the area. I ordered lunch and got a bucket of 8 dark meat pieces and a small mashed potatoes with gravy and a soda. The chicken is prepared fresh, never frozen and its deep fried not broasted under pressure like the Colonel. Chicken was juicy, crisp and delightful...I knocked off all 8 pieces!!
