    Shrimp Tempura
    Rashid M.

I came here during lunch. The restaurant was very quiet with no other customers were having lunch here. I'm guessing it's because the location is hidden between nail salons and pilate studios and is not that obvious to the traffic driving by. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura and thought it was okay. Service was the same.

    Sushi for 2

Ordered take out last night and this place did not disappoint! We ordered Sushi for 2 which came with 20 nigiri sushi and 2 chef special rolls of your choice. Really liked that we were able to pick 2 rolls. The fish was incredibly fresh and quality was excellent. There was a good fish to rice ratio on the nigiri. It also came with 2 miso soups. It was nicely presented. This may be our new sushi spot to order from!

We were there for lunch and pretty had the restaurant to ourselves. Everything was very fresh and service was on point.

Kinben hasn't disappointed us--our regular spot near home. The sushi was fresh as always, and I liked the new to-go packaging presentation.

    Naruto!!

We went here twice in the 3 days we were visiting! I am SO excited about their Naruto rolls-which use cucumber ribbon as the wrapper and no rice. Generous pieces of fish! One of the best miso soups my son and I have ever had. Wonderful prices. Very attentive and patient waitress. Zen vibes with the white geometric patterned wall, tile, and dark wood tables and friendly yellow paint inside. Enjoyed the illuminated fish picture on the wall as well. We'll be back!!

We had an awesome meal on a Saturday night that really surpassed all of our expectations. I called ahead to ask if we could come in about 30 minutes. Sure, the nice woman said. The restaurant was about half full when we arrived and slowly filled almost completely. We ordered hot saki for two, a beer, and a lychee martini. Very good quality saki and my wife asked if they could tone down the sweetness of the martini which they did. For our little one they prepared some steamed broccoli and very delicious vegetable fried rice. To our surprise, she ate all of the green stuff and 90% of the rice. Impressive indeed. I ordered a soup to warm my bones and then we added some sashimi and the Japanese spring rolls. The spring rolls had a nice flaky crust that reminded me of a croissant and the flavor was very good. In the sashimi department, we had Uni from Japan (they offered two different types), red crab, scallops and some yellowtail. The freshness was very noticeable and we really enjoyed all. Mrs. me ordered the Toro Tacos and she raved about them- so much so, I had to have a bite and I agreed. I also order the rock shrimp tempura and thought the flavor was among the best I've had. The presentation and taste of the crazy toro roll was amazing. one of our favorites of the evening. Modern looking inside, The space does have one larger booth in the front of the restaurant that seems to fit at least eight people, while the last of the space has about a dozen tables that could each sit four. Along the right hand side as you enter and pass the hostess station, there is a bar with most of the basic liquors to make just about whatever you would want. Price for meal was not shocking for the level of service and the quality of the food. Paired with the clean and modern restaurant, it made for an enjoyable meal.

    Valentine's Valentines Day Package

This is local hidden gem always serves the freshest fish. And the rice.. it's always perfectly seasoned and the grains of rice is never mushy and always has a nice bite. I generally get the lunch special. However we decided to get the valentine day special for $99. The hamachi collar was grilled to perfection. This is the equivalent of eating a fish rib and the meat was firm and moist. All of the fish in the sashimi and the bento box was extremely high quality and melt in your mouth delicious! Definitely worth the splurge.

Came here for lunch! I don't live in the area anymore but heard Plainview got a new sushi place, so I had to make my way by to try it. I had the lunch special, 3 rolls for $14 served with miso soup or salad. I had salad. The dressing was really good! For my rolls I had - Godzilla Roll - spicy tuna, deep fried with eel sauce and spicy Mayo - salmon with cucumber & avocado Roll - Yammy Roll- tuna, crab, avocado and tobiko All was delicious! Everything was so fresh and just..YUM! I really enjoyed everything. The Godzilla roll and Yammy roll came with 8 pieces! Normally for lunch special places only offer maki rolls which are 6 pieces. Very surprised these two rolls were a choice for the lunch special. Very satisfying lunch! I will be back!

Red snapper Sashimi - Bluefin tuna, fatty tuna, yellowtail, salmon, red snapper Rolls - shrimp tempura, seared salmon w spicy tuna,

-food - fish quality was exceptional, compared to levels I've had in Japan (the good places) -service - top tier, friendly, courteous, and very accommodating (they even recommended recipe suggestions with the fish head in attached photo) -ambiance - clean and modern, very spacious -note: red snapper in display was a seasonal fish, may not always be available! But we enjoyed it!

Does not look exciting from the outside. Ambiance is minimal. Sushi is fresh & offerings are creative. Price & size of each dish are what you would expect. Friendly staff. Krispy Rice was one of our favorites. Waygu Nori tacos were small but tasty. Sapporo & Sake available. Decent amount of dessert options. Parking is free and the lot is big. I would eat here if I was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

We came here for lunch and enjoyed our experience! The sushi was fresh and we loved the sushi tacos! The toro caviar taco was delicious!

The place was decorated with red heart balloons everywhere. My daughter loved this and wanted to take one. She wasn't able to, but the really nice sushi chefs did give her kani, which she loved. We started with hot tea, which was delicious. Kumo has a great lunch special. I took advantage of it and got the sushi and sashimi special. It consisted of a tuna roll, 5 pieces of sushi and 10 pieces of sashimi. Was very filling, fresh and delicious. Came with miso soup and salad. I enjoyed the salad, but their miso soup wasn't so great. I did not finish it. My husband also took advantage of the lunch special and ordered the 3 roll combo. He really enjoyed all of his rolls. My daughter had the tatsuta age. She absolutely loved it as it was basically chicken nuggets with panko. She is a huge chicken nugget fan and it's hard to find her things to eat usually at Japanese places as she isn't a fan of teriyaki chicken. Happy to know she likes this as well as Kani now. I ordered the soba noodles with chicken and vegetables to take out and the dish contained 80% greasy noodles with a smattering of chicken and a little green from an unidentifiable vegetable. I feel so sick right now with stomach pains from all the grease that tasted like rancid lard. I should have brought it back but did not want the inconvenience. The only positive thing to say about this place is that their sushi is decent. Someone else ordered the vegetable teriyaki and got 2 pieces of broccoli and a carrot as their vegetables. No pea pods, bok choy, water chestnuts, onions, peppers, string beans etc. Just miserly portions with lots of oil, filler and hardly any protein or vegetables. Also their prices are sky high and their quality scrapes the bottom of the barrel. Never Again!!!

As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Melinda, one of our favorite waitresses, and were seated right away. May, who was also working tonight, promptly came over to take our order. She politely asked if we needed menus, but I declined since we already knew exactly what we wanted. We've had this same exchange with May quite a few times during our recent visits. We ordered our usual: the Sushi for Two, which comes with two specialty rolls and 18 pieces of sushi. Tonight we chose the Dozo Dozo and the Futomaki Special rolls. The meal also comes with either soup or salad, and tonight we both chose the soup. That's how much we love this dish. We had just returned from a two-week trip to South Florida this past Saturday, and the very next day--Sunday--we came here and ordered the exact same meal. And here we are again tonight doing the same. This restaurant consistently serves some of the freshest, premium-quality fish around. Tonight's 18 pieces included bluefin tuna, O-toro, king salmon, scallops, sea bass, red snapper, fluke, yellowtail, and Spanish mackerel. Every piece was tender and incredibly fresh. Yes, the price reflects the quality--but you absolutely get what you pay for. In my experience, there are not many sushi restaurants on Long Island that consistently serve fish of this caliber. The restaurant itself is stunning, beautiful design, good music, and an upscale bar that transports you far from the reality of being in a strip mall on Jericho Turnpike. The ambiance feels high end and thoughtfully curated. However, a few details reminded us we were still in a strip mall. Small but important things that could easily make or break this place. The bartender, who essentially represents the restaurant and sets the tone , the "sensei" of the establishment, so to speak. He was friendly and kind, but his expertise in cocktails and culinary knowledge was lacking. After our first cocktail, I made it clear that I dislike sweet drinks or wines. He then recommended a Riesling which is known for being a sweet, semi-dessert wine -- which made me question his understanding of the menu. He seemed young and inexperienced, though well-intentioned. The food was a mixed experience. The raw bar appetizers were excellent, and both the lobster udon pasta and spaghetti were delicious! Unfortunately, the lamb chops were a complete miss. We ordered them medium rare, as they arrived so..they were looking and tasting boiled, with no sear, no crust, and a chewy texture. Halfway through my second glass of wine, the bartender refilled it without asking. I assumed it might be on the house, tipping me off. As it wasn't a full glass of wine. When the bill came, I saw I had been charged for a full glass. He never asked if I wanted another; he simply refilled it and added it to the check. That's an amateur. We also received a complimentary glass of champagne (which we noticed was being served to all omakase guests), though the bartender presented it as though it were a personal gesture from him. His words were "these last two rounds were on me". Meanwhile, it was just a 2 glasses of champagne.. my husband and I ordered 3 drinks each, one of which I was poured and did not ask for. Until the service matches the sophistication of the space, this restaurant will struggle to keep diners coming back.
