I'm surprised I haven't yet written a review on this restaurant. I used to go here a lot with my sister and now that I live close by again, my husband and I brought our daughter here for Valentine's Day lunch. We had a great time! The place was decorated with red heart balloons everywhere. My daughter loved this and wanted to take one. She wasn't able to, but the really nice sushi chefs did give her kani, which she loved. We started with hot tea, which was delicious. Kumo has a great lunch special. I took advantage of it and got the sushi and sashimi special. It consisted of a tuna roll, 5 pieces of sushi and 10 pieces of sashimi. Was very filling, fresh and delicious. Came with miso soup and salad. I enjoyed the salad, but their miso soup wasn't so great. I did not finish it. My husband also took advantage of the lunch special and ordered the 3 roll combo. He really enjoyed all of his rolls. My daughter had the tatsuta age. She absolutely loved it as it was basically chicken nuggets with panko. She is a huge chicken nugget fan and it's hard to find her things to eat usually at Japanese places as she isn't a fan of teriyaki chicken. Happy to know she likes this as well as Kani now. I live right across the street. Kumo is my go to. I had a friend visiting and we went to eat there. But they have a break between lunch and dinner and we came about a half hr before they closed. We decided not to rush and bring dinner in. We started with Kani salad. Kumo makes the best around, as is their gyoza which we also had. My friend had a Kumo bento box. She said everything was delicious and fresh. I had 3 rolls, lobster tempura roll, shrimp tempura roll and a Tokyo roll. They are the best. I don't eat exciting rolls but what I eat is delicious. Small, pretty dining room. Kumo has been around for years and there is a reason why. Their food is delicious. read more

Great lunch specials. You can buy it and save it for dinner. The sushi is very good. Easy to park and lots of choices.

The disclaimer on their menu says they are not affiliated with the Kumo Restaurant that poisoned customers, but after eating here I feel poisoned, nauseous and sick to my stomach. I ordered the soba noodles with chicken and vegetables to take out and the dish contained 80% greasy noodles with a smattering of chicken and a little green from an unidentifiable vegetable. I feel so sick right now with stomach pains from all the grease that tasted like rancid lard. I should have brought it back but did not want the inconvenience. The only positive thing to say about this place is that their sushi is decent. Someone else ordered the vegetable teriyaki and got 2 pieces of broccoli and a carrot as their vegetables. No pea pods, bok choy, water chestnuts, onions, peppers, string beans etc. Just miserly portions with lots of oil, filler and hardly any protein or vegetables. Overall, it is a great sushi and Japanese spot to try if you're in the area. The place isn't huge, but we got sat right away on a Saturday night. The seasame tuna appetizer was fire, as was the Cajun salmon carpaccio. Got the sushi trio and the R&D roll for dinner. The fish was super fresh and well prepared. Also got the fried beef rice for our child who loved it. Service wise, they were fast, like super fast. Definitely recommend this spot. read more

We came on a Monday night around 7pm, only a few tables. We were greeted with warm towelettes to clean our hands. Our server was very attentive and kind! We often go to another sushi place with a very similar menu - but it originated here. We ordered the following: Howie Special: the tuna with avocado and spicy mayo was delicious in the yuzu sauce Double Sweet: fried crispy rice with spicy mayo had a sweet sauce on top and a slice of fresh jalapeño, soooo yummy. The Oyster Tataki was so so good as well, very fresh didn't taste fishy, and they were pretty well sized! I tried the spicy lobster roll (without mango) and enjoyed it. I forgot what other roll we got but everything we got we enjoyed! Of course we paired a Sapporo with a cold sake, our server brought us cold glasses and put the bottle of sake in an ice bucket. Tried this spot for the first time during lunch after visiting my friend who just moved into the area in Plainview. We were starving and didn't feel like driving too far so we gave this place a shot and I'm glad we did. Even though there were quite a few options nearby this one was super convenient and it ended up being a great find. I ordered the sushi and sashimi lunch special and it was actually really solid. The fish tasted fresh and was nicely plated which is not something you always expect with a lunch special. For the appetizer we got what looked like an entire squid, grilled and sliced into rings. It had that nice smoky flavor from the grill and was cooked just right with a little char on the edges and a tender bite throughout. Overall it's a solid lunch spot with good portions and quality for the price. I would definitely come back and I'm curious to try it again for dinner. read more

Everything here was excellent!!! Water service & service in general was great. Highlight was the crispy duck salad sub hoisin sauce for balsamic. Also the madeline roll no cucumber was soooo good!!! Unfortunately some really, really quite delicious sushi that is so expensive. I had this one incident where I found a shard of plastic in one of my rolls which I ordered out and I bit into it and it hurt the inside of my mouth. This place only gave me a refund for that roll once they made me send them a picture through text of the plastic I found which was odd. Honestly this place is kind of crazy for that but what's even more crazy is me giving a 4/5 despite this incident...(that's how good the sushi is). read more

We go once a month - this is our sushi go-to spot. The pizza sandwich is a must-have. Everything, taste wise is pretty solid and their speciality rolls are also fairly good. Something to note- the service is not the friendliest. We think they may have recently hired new staff or something because our very last visit was surprisingly swell. When we have had problems, they have been very bothered to fix them. Once, we found a shard of plastic inside of a roll. They didn't believe us and had us text them a picture of it - how bizarre. When we order online, they often get the orders wrong. You also have to ask them for gum at the end of the meal/if you are taking home. Other restaurants normally just provide that as a gratitude. As a whole, we have had a bunch of issues, but it must speak measures that we still keep returning. read more

Usually I don't leave reviews, but I'm leaving this one to help other customers. Not sure what JL (the person who left the last comment) is talking about. The service there was horrible. I'm giving 3 stars because the food was good, but the menu is overloaded with rolls. They should cut down on a few, as it can get confusing and hard to make a choice. Again, focusing on the service. These women working there were rude and not friendly at all. My wife and I tried to be friendly and talkative and they were just nasty and anti friendly. That in my opinion ruined the dinner experience. My wife order the Dylan roll (which has scallops) and she thought it was cooked and it was not. Raw scallops are slimy and sticky. We mentioned it to the waitress and all she said was sorry ( hard to understand with the mask and accent). I would not recommend this place to eat, maybe order out but certainly not to go eat there. read more

It's been two years since my last review of Kumo. Not much has changed. The service is fabulous, along with creative dishes. However, this restaurant is still one of my top three Japanese restaurants. My favorite creative selections are the oysters and tuna creations. ** Carryout Order ** I only found out about Kumo Sushi from a coworker and found this place in the strip mall in between Cheeburger Cheeburger and Fairway Market. Got the food to go because it was pretty a late weeknight and we didn't want to hang around for table service. The place looks relatively smallish inside, but the interior design has some pleasing aesthetics. We received a friendly greeting and they got our orders ready pretty quick. When I opened the carryout container it looked okay. The cut rolls were servicable, but not the best presentation as some pieces fell apart on me. The uni was delicious and creamy fresh. I was pleasantly surprised that they had inari when I asked, even though it wasn't on the menu. If I wasn't living out of a suitcase and had more leisure time, I would have preferred to grab a seat at the sushi bar and burn my per diem on omakase. It wasn't the most spectacular take out sushi evah, but definitely waaay better than picking up some prepackaged grocery store sushi. read more

This was a good standard sushi place. The halloween decorations were already up when we went during October 19th. They sis a good job with the decorations. The waiter that served us spoke Mandarin Chinese and English. We got and udon bowl, a dinner bento set, a spicy naruto roll, and vegetable tempura. Between the 3 of us we were really full and could hardly finish our meal. The price wasn't too bad for the amount of food and quality we got. It took them maybe 20 - 30 minuets to prepare our food, it was a bit busy when we went at 7pm. But it was also a Friday night, so that was expected. Overall the place and the staff were really nice. When we got our bill they gave us mini gumballs that I use to have in my childhood, I didn't even know you could still get! Last night both the filet mignon teriyaki and tuna tetaki were hard to chew. Filet used to be $23 and now it's $31 and quality has gone down two grades. Having hurt my leg in a fall on ice, I am relegated to staying home and looking for other than ordinary foods to be delivered. Last night we found that Kumo offered on-line delivery service with a 20% discount on your first order. Signing up on line was simple, we did it on I-Pad! Very straight forward system and once you sign up future orders are easier as you have an acct and it contains all your information. We always loved Kumo so this extension of their service was welcome. The food came as promised in about 45 minutes. We had great Sake belly and Hamachi belly sushi along with Ikura sushi. My wife got the Rich Roll...was delicious! and we got a really deicious Spicy Tuna Roll inside out. All in all, this was a great experience and we will defenitly take advantage again. I was very surprised to see how packed this place was. For whatever reason I just expected this place to be another japanese restaurant in the area, but not only was it packed, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. He had the bento box, I had the nabeyaki udon and we shared a sushi roll. Service was a bit on the slow side, understanding that it was a very busy Friday night, but still. We waited a bit longer than we should have for the food that we ordered. The sushi was delicious. We inhaled that roll so fast that I don't even remember what it was called, but it was good. The bento box and udon were about what we expected, but the sushi left us wanting more. Happy campers we left and we will return. Service was decent, but the sushi really was that good that we want more. My only warning is to be prepared for a wait and to wait a bit for your food, but once you get it, you'll be happy you waited. read more

This place is an enigma. I believe the owners and chefs are from Taiwan. The quality of the fish and the presentation is outstanding. This is about 1 notch from being a 5 star restaurant. If the service was a bit sharper and the decor slightly less cheesy (yes it goes from really hip to a stuffed fish mounted behind the sushi bar) plus better sake choices and it would make the jump. When they have specials (which they always do) go for the specials, especially Toro Tartare. Believe it or not, they have a lamb chop appetizer that is excellent although feels out of place. Finally their live scallops, when available, are a must have as are their live shrimp. Just the same, it is definitely as good as any sushi restaurant in Nassau and probably only exceeded by Nisen. read more
