I had such a great experience here! They quickly repaired the computer, replaced the part (with a genuine part) and did so within an hour. I had an issue with my fans not working properly and it now feels like a new computer! I will be returning for all of my computer needs. The two gentlemen who were working also seemed ridiculously knowledgeable. Cannot recommend enough read more

Fast and cost effective iPhone 13 Pro battery and charging port replacement. Very knowledgeable tech. Repaired while I waited.

I don't know how they managed to get any positive reviews for this business but I'm here to tell you to run from them. I have never left any negative reviews before but this one deserves to be served. If you need your device fixed, go to Apple. I brought in a Macbook in the beginning of November 2023. The laptop wouldn't turn on and I told the guy that no one else could fix it. He reassured me and told me that he was the best at this and he could fix it for the right price. Therefore, I paid him the full repair price on the spot. He told me to come pick up the laptop within a week or two which was fair. Well after 2 months, I went back to the shop and he told me that he was still waiting for some "parts". I clearly knew something was off and called his BS... I asked him to put back my Macbook together and to refund me for service not delivered. He promised to refund me the next day but I have never received any refund. After my research I realized that this guy has been running the same script for years: 1. He tells you that he can fix your device in a timely manner and at a reasonable price. 2. He blames the long delay on "parts" that never arrived. Keep in mind these Godsend "parts" can take up to a year to come in... 3. Unfortunately, after waiting for so long, most people give up on the repair and take the loss of the money that they paid upfront or they just forget about it. (That in fact explains the abundance of computer debris on the floor inside of the shop. I hope this review helps anyone that has been dealing with Techshield or thinking of working with them. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. I am so glad they are closed. I took my laptop in because of a shortage in the power cord. The guy had my laptop days after he said it would be ready. When I went in on a Thursday, he told me he needed to order the part and it wouldn't be in until the following Monday. Ten minutes after I left the store he called and told me it was ready. When I went back to pick up the laptop , he gave me a new power cord and told me the cost was $250. Well, I paid for it, and once I got home the same problem starting happening. I could never get ahold of him by phone and every time I went back they were closed. He also installed remote access on computer, which would allowed Tech Shield to access my computer. The guy is a lying crook. He did not fix my laptop, only charged me $250 for a power cord. Again, so glad that place is closed. read more

I took both my sisters Mac and mine to get fixed. Hers got taken care of which was a removal of an extra solid state since we were told it could not be repaired. That Mac no longer functions. My Mac which was a 2012 MacBook Pro needed a new logic board. We received the laptop after being "fixed" and it would not start. He apologized and said he would get it fixed. Two weeks later we were told he couldn't fix the laptop and offered a refund. After taking my laptop back for the second time I opened it only to find it stripped of parts. My brand new battery from OWC, was replaced with a 2012 Mac battery on its way out. As well as my fan was removed and replaced with one that doesn't work and multiple screws from the internal system were missing. If you can't do the job say that from a start. Waste of time and money. I would recommend going to MAC MD for any Mac issues read more

I am this kind of person who like to try different places for service. Well , it didn't turn out well... Avoid this place. I went there with my liquid damage keyboard and the whole process was a pain. First of all , he charged me more then we agreed over the phone. Second , it took more then he promised. Next , keyboard wasn't installed properly so some of the keys are lower then the other. Backlight light not working. Touchpad is sticky and not working properly ( probably he forgot to take clean it as well ). My computer feels much slower then before , not sure if he installed proper parts. read more

Tech Shield Computer Repair - Poor assembling - IT Services & Computer Repair Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Guys response is total bullshit. The computer was never brought anywhere else first, it still worked fine(it was just a pain to turn on), the computer case had never been opened before they got it so missing pieces is impossible, they never once tried to contact me and actively avoided my calls(checked my phone records and I called them over 50 times and they only called me once including call backs for messages I left), I was not happy with the "new laptop" but was told it would work better when I updated the drivers, and I was never out of the country until after I received the "new laptop." It literally sat on a desk never being moved since I got it from them. Is he suggesting it could be broken just by being opened? You can hark on how it was free all you want, but free garbage is still garbage. read more

Tech Shield Computer Repair - Broken "replacement computer" I received after 6 months and them losing parts for the computer I brought in. - IT Services & Computer Repair Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I'm good with tech but was overwhelmed with work and tech problems all piling on me at once. So I contacted different 9 businesses about getting the fan replaced in my MacBook. I ended up going to Tech Shield partly because it was close and partly because they were one of only two who said they actually had the parts on hand. Turnaround time was a couple of hours (same day for a hardware repair!) and the cost ended up being lower than anywhere else's quote for the same task. After I picked up my laptop I talked shop with the purveyor, smart guy, very personable and no nonsense. This will be the place I will go to and recommend to anyone I know from here on out. read more

What would you think if you entered a computer store where dozens of computer towers and monitors were scattered ACROSS THE FLOOR, so that it was difficult to walk to the counter? What would you think if you had to ask the proprietor specifically for a claim check (upon leaving your computer behind) and he had to improvise something? What would you think if you learned that the business had neither a functioning website nor an email address? ("Go through Yelp", but mail to the Yelp address "can't be delivered"?) Finally, what would you think if you got charged $200 and your computer continued to malfunction as before?? YOU decide. read more

My wife's 2014 MacBook Pro screen went completely dead a few weeks back. No warning, just went totally dark. Brought it to Tech Shield, they diagnosed the issue, we ordered a replacement screen, it was just installed yesterday and is good as new. I also appreciate that we were given a temp replacement screen for a bit while we waited for the new one to come in. Will definitely come back (and I will have to soon, as I recently blew out a speaker on my own MacBook Pro). Thank you, Tech Shield! read more

Took my less than two year old laptop in for a battery swap and, after about five trips to and from the store, ended up with a bricked device. These folks have absolutely no clue what they are doing. If you want an idea about how you will be treated there, scroll past all their fake 5 star reviews on here and on Google and you will get an idea of what kind of service you can actually expect. To top it all off, the owner texted me after the fact and blamed me for ruining my $1400 laptop because I "rushed them." Unless you're in the mood to gift this company some cash and then turn around and buy a new computer, I'd recommend taking your business elsewhere. This place is a joke. Edit 9/17: I can assure you all that this review is more authentic than the service you will get from Tech Shield. Viewers take note, instead of addressing customer service issues, this business attacks, harasses, and attempts to intimidate its customers by posting dishonest responses to reviews and by sending weird texts blaming their customers for the businesses lack of knowledge and expertise. Think about that when deciding if you should do business with them or not. read more

This 5 star review is a mixed bag: I paid 250+ tax ( including labor) to get a solid state drive I was told it was fixed I was misinformed and my computer continued to not be able to find the drive I go back. I am told the battery is dying, but everything should now be fine I was again misinformed. On what becomes my third visit to the store, I was angry. How has such a simple thing turned into such a hassle ? why has no one offered me anything more than a half hearted apology? I ask Spencer, who works closely with the owner, and he acknowledges my frustration and says the cord connecting my drive and my computer has likely gone bad. He fixes it free of charge. I however am too mad at the inconvenience to let this go. So I come back to explain my frustration directly to the owner. Poor Spencer again had to absorb the brunt of my frustration as the owner never seemed to appear. I again leave irritated, but both my mood and my rating would improve. That night i got a call from Spencer, who was able to fix my actual problem, saying he had discussed my concerns with the owner and would like to offer me a free service. FINALLY. Some acknowledgment that there had been a mistake. For all my complaining they do care if you are happy with their service and want it right. You may have to ruffle a few feathers in the event you are unhappy, but I was given excellent compensation for the issue, great service by Spencer and a second life for my Macbook read more

After reading all the great reviews, I decided to take my laptop to this location for repairs. It's been almost two weeks, and the issue has yet to be resolved. There was no follow up from them, and I had to constantly call to received any updates. Answers were very vague, with lack of information as to "what the issue" was or if the actual laptop could be repaired. Disappointed- and definitely would not recommend this location. read more

Dishonest and patronizing. They misrepresented what they were going to do to my laptop completely, then after I had paid for something I didn't authorize (and wouldn't have), the owner (or someone who said he was the owner) talked over and talked down to me and actually laughed in my face while arguing that the repair he made was better than the one I had agreed too. He absolutely refused to acknowledge the issues of honesty and transparency. I would never go here again, and wish that I hadn't been tricked into contributing to this jerk's dishonest income. To be fair, they do have a great customer service and Daniel are a really nice guy who's always try to be as friendly as possible during my time as a customer there. However, I have my worst every experience as a customer there. I stopped by there earlier this year to fix my Sony Vaio (2007ish, HD and Blu-Ray laptop). It has a problem with the blu-ray driver and the hinges won't close. Firstly, they told me that I need to reformat the laptop because there's a problem with the windows there, and along with the hinges replacement, the cost are around $200ish. Quite steep IMO, but I decided to just get along with it, as long as the problem is fixed. Then about a month away, the other hinges broke, and I have to come back and fix it. another $150 goes away, and I'm star tin to get irritated. Once it fixed, the guy told me that it won't happen again, even though I'd asked him for like a million times about my concern with the way they put the screw/nails on the hinges. Another month goes by, and this time I got a problem with the screen/monitor, I went there and they told me that they need around 3-4 weeks to fix it, along with the steep price ($150-200). I don't have the time since I have to leave for good in a month. Then, the worst news came and they told me that they unable to fix it, and somehow they decided to modify my hard drive, so the laptop is not even working at all! and the screen problem is not even fixed as well!! So pissed with the situation, I asked them to give me some replacement because of their mistake. Not only that they are not fixing my screen problem, they are only making it worse by modifying the hard drive so my lap top isn't in a working condition at all. Finally, once I get back in Indonesia, I managed to fix the laptop, and the technician told me that the problem is not even with the screen, but with the CPU. I only paid around $30-40 at most to fix this problem. But of course, a couple weeks away, the freaking HINGES broke again! and they told me back then that it was safe and secured! How I love this place.. Don't be tricked by the high ratings! I'm not saying that this place are the worst in Chicago, but definitely one of the worst hardware reparation place in Chicago.. Go there only if you're having a virus problem, alt ho they're not that cheap either with that service. read more

I brought in an external hard drive that the Apple Store said couldn't be fixed without the use of a data recovery service. Those places charge between $100 and $2,400, with no guarantee that you'll get all of your information back the way it was before the hard drive stopped working. I went to Tech Shield after my trip to the Apple Store, figuring they might know something the Apple "genius" wouldn't, but after keeping the hard drive for a day, they said it was "dead" and recommended a data recovery service just like Apple did. Well, it turns out that a $75 piece of software called Data Rescue II was able to retrieve the data. Yes, some of it was corrupted, but I doubt a data recovery service would've done any better, and definitely not for $75. To their credit, Tech Shield didn't charge me anything for their time, and they're friendly guys, but it's disappointing that they didn't mention anything about Data Rescue II, or Disk Warrior, or FileSalvage. Then again, neither did the Apple "genius," and the software is right there in the store. read more

The people over at Tech Shield are Fracking miracle workers! If you go to another location for your computer repair you are making a grave mistake. A few things of note happened to me today during my experience with the folks over at Tech Shield. First off, I arrived while they were helping another costumer and after messing around with their phone without avail, they gave this costumer a full refund because they weren't able to fix the problem! Amazing... Secondly, they completely restored my MacBook Pro that sustained a mind bogglingly panic inducing amount of water damage. I thought that it was beyond repair, but they were able to get me back in computing action in less then 3 hours! I took my macbook pro and iPad there for repairs. My 4 year old macbook was running really slow and I had taken it to the Apple store where they recommended I buy a new laptop. I decided to bring it to Tech Shield, where they ran tests and saw my hard rive was failing. They replaced my hard drive and now it is working great! With the iPad, all I needed was the screen replaced because it was shattered and they did this for $100 but it would have been more if I hand't been buying the new hard drive as well. The reason I took away 1 star was because the day I dropped it off the guy that was working there was a little rude and when I asked how long he thought he would take he just said "whenever it's ready." When I tried calling the same guy was also short and not helpful. When I came to pick it up, the man I dealt with was very pleasant and helpful. I would recommend this place and will go back myself. read more

I brought my flash drive in for data recovery after I snapped the stem (it was still attached just loose). They ran a free diagnostic and told me it looked like the points just needed to be soldered (no guarantee it'll work). Next day I get the bad news the device is still not being recognized by the computer. Deflated and exhausted from anxiety, I resigned to the fact I would have to send the drive to a data recovery lab, and prices began at $300 for the first gb. Luckily, another computer repair shop in the area called me (I called for estimates) and suggested I give them a try (nothing to lose w/ a free diagnostic). According to the new shop, Techshield, and I quote, "didn't do anything to your drive... they just opened it. There's no soldering marks and the points aren't connected... looks like they didn't try anything. Hope you didn't pay for it." I was given a fair price at the other shop based on estimates around town/web, and since my flash drive needed rewiring. If it's true that Techshield didn't attempt to fix it... I'm pissed; and it gives some credence to why the tech guy couldn't find my flash drive when I went to go pick it up... if he had previously worked on it, he should have known where he put it. An expensive lesson... and I'm glad the other shop helped me more than Techshield. I know better to back up my shit, why I only backed up one folder and not the entire drive, I'll never know. Just because one is in grad school doesn't mean they have common sense. ------- updated response to private message. Very understandable why your shop did not do the repair and how physical damage is not repaired at your shop. However, my rating is based on the fact that I was ::told:: that that your shop could do a physical repair and try soldering the USB drive (otherwise, I would not have chosen your shop since that was my ONLY problem). More so, the fact that I was ::told:: that soldering WAS conducted and yielded no effect on the drive and needed to try the data recovery lab, is why the rating is low. Since there was a miscommunication on your part, fix it. I knew I had a physical problem with my USB drive and was only pursuing repair shops that could do a physical repair... A paramount detail like that is not something I would misunderstand by a shop that doesn't do physical repairs. read more
