I was having trouble with dead zones where I wasn't receiving any signal, but Mike was able to help me figure out the proper Wifi system that I needed before he even came to my house to install it. So I went in to get a bigger hardrive on my computer everything went smooth. 4-5 months later my WiFi on my computer does not work at all. Computers are my hobby in life so it's rare that I need help from a computer repair shop. Today all I really needed was compressed air to clean out my Asus gaming laptop. I walked in little expectation other than hopefully finding this five dollar product, which they conveniently had. Where it all really shines is the basic conversation I had while being checked out. I asked for an msata to ssd adapter which I knew no store would have, but he instantly told me how to find it and how much it would cost. I then told him briefly about my issue - being PC related he didn't have to have any answers, but all within check out he was able to clarify things I already know about my laptop overheating, but also expand my knowledge of possible fixes and how to do them. I NEVER WRITE REVIEWS, BUT THIS EXPERIENCE WAS TERRIBLE!!! I purchased a replacement retina Monitor for over $500 from this store, and 6 weeks later it failed on me. I took it back to them and they refused to honor the warrantee because of a small "BLEMISH" on the top corner of the monitor (clamshell), not on the screen. They gave me a "free diagnosis" to try to fix the monitor , but could not fix anything and actually made my monitor WORSE. It went from a flicker to a complete black screen. I left the store very disappointed knowing that I did nothing to damage the monitor, but it was them who sold me a bad product. I then spent the next 6 weeks only using my computer with an external monitor. Today I decided to revisit the store to state my case again because I couldn't deal with a broken monitor anymore, especially one I payed $500 for, less than 4 months ago . I walked in hoping for at least a discount on a new monitor this time. I expressed my frustration and they offered me nothing. Not even a discount. Steve (worker) told me that they're screens have never failed anyone before and that I was a very rare case. I believed Steve and I agreed to pay full price AGAIN for another monitor replacement. So I left my computer and was told I would be contacted before the end of the day to pick up my repaired computer. This was around 11am. I returned to my apartment and saw a review on Yelp from someone who had the same exact problem as me. They had their screen replaced by Spring st. Mac and then it failed on them. Same exact symptoms as my Mac. But this person who left the review was compensated with a new monitor FREE of charge. I read that in an updated review. I then received an email from them at 5:30 pm (6 hours after I dropped it off) stating that they made a mistake by telling me they had new retina monitors in stock. They said the only one that they do have in stock is "NEW" but has a small "BLEMISH". Without responding to their email I walked strait to the store to talk in person. The owner of the store was there this time and he was aware of my situation. His name was Mike. Mike explained to me that the new monitor they installed on my macbook has a "BLEMISH" on the top corner (the same place that the last monitor they sold me had!!) and that they can give me 10% off. Long story short, I payed for the monitor because I needed my computer. I payed nearly $500 on top of the original $500 from 4 months earlier. I believe that the "BLEMISH" on the first monitor that they sold me 4 months ago was already there before I purchased it. Just like the one they sold me today. And they used that as an excuse to not replace my monitor even though it was still under warrantee. They're are many negative reviews about Spring st. Mac's parts breaking down after a couple months of use. I believe they are scamming people by leaving small "BLEMISHES" in particular places on the parts before they sell them to customers, so that when the customer returns with their failing product Spring st. Mac responds by pointing out the "BLEMISH" and voiding their warrantee. I feel like I was cheated and lied too. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. These people are super sketchy. I'll keep you guys updated on this "NEW" monitor I purchased today and we'll see how long this one lasts. read more

So I'm walking from office to the post office to drop off an overnight delivery but this day I go a route that I never go. What do I discover??? a Mac repair store on Spring Street that looks very professional. Well it just so happenes that my late 2012 27" iMac had a hard drive crash about six months ago and it's been sitting on the floor waiting for repair. Instead of ordering a drive from Newegg.com and hiring some hack to install it for me (because installing hard drives in iMacs are extremely difficult) I asked these guy could they do it. Of course they can. And while they were a little more expensive than a Craigslist dude, it was still cheaper then the Genius Bar at the Mac store and still gave me the peace of mind that Mac experts are working on my system. So I dropped it off on Friday and asked them to install an SSD hard drive in place of my old 7200 RPM drive. I told them please have it ready anytime before Christmas. He said don't worry we'll have it ready probably by Monday. Well guess what? to my surprise I got a call two hours later saying my computer is ready for pickup. Now that deserved a five star rating in and of itself. I'm now chugging along super fast on my 5yr old iMac and I'm pretty happy about the performance from Photoshop and Lightroom . They did a fantastic job, their communication was great and I'd recommend them to anybody. read more

Okay, so it's true when I made it back to this shop, that my iphone was beyond the "warranty" period for the screen "repair" they had "done" prior. (I was out of town and country for months, so yes, I did not get back within the warranty period.) But it's also true that within one week of having my cracked iphone screen replaced here, a black blotch showed up lower left corner of the screen, then another black blotch mid right screen, then a series of blue horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen. They refused to accept this and said I'd have to pay the full price for another screen replacement. I asked for a discount. They said, okay 10%. Right. 10 friggin' percent off to fix their own shoddy repair. I said, "how about you do it for cost? That way you don't lose money, but you're honoring our relationship by fixing the problem." They said "no, it will be full price." I said "No," walked out the door and gave UBREAKITIFIX my business and will never walk through the doors of Spring Street Mac again. No idea of how to be a service business. They must be relying on a steady flow of one-time fixes and clearly don't give a damn about return business. Spring Street Mac delivered excellent service on my MacBook Pro. My MacBook Pro's battery needed to be replaced. The case had warped to the point where it wobbled when placed on a flat surface. Apparently the defective battery also impacted the trackpad, as substantial pressure (7X the normal pressure required) on a small two-inch area of the trackpad was required for all use of the trackpad. Last but not least, I wasn't able to close the Mac fully because the case was bent so badly I walked into Spring Street Mac and told the technician about the battery issue and other problems. I was immediately told I could return in two hours to pick up my Mac. Upon my arrival about two hours later, I was shown a pic of the interior of my computer. It could best be described as having so much dust inside it was disgusting. The Spring Street Mac 'genius' removed the dust, replaced the battery, and straightened the Mac case to the point where it now sits absolutely flat. I'm also able to close the case flush and properly, the trackpad works perfectly, and yes I have a brand new battery. Their pricing is competitive. My Mac runs like new. Overall I had an excellent customer service experience at Spring Street Mac. I will definitely return when I require help with any of my Apple products. Oh, this is my first Yelp review. In July I broke the front of my iPhone 4. Took it here to replace, but sadly they were out of the glass for the 4 so I was outta luck. It would be able to fix in a week, but unfortunately my phone completely kicked the bucket before that could happen. A week ago, exactly 5 months later (to the day!) I broke the screen to my iPhone 4s. Luckily for everybody involved, this time they were indeed able to fix this for me. For a black front, it would be $80. Orrrrrr for $100 I could get a new front and back in a pretty color. I obviously opted for the pretty color. Good things- only took an hour, plus my phone is like REALLY pretty now. Bad things- this place isn't open on Sundays, which is stupid because I do the bulk of my phone breaking on Saturday nights. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS Worst possible service ever. Was in a bind to pick up a couple of apple routers. Their prices were outrageous, 30 - 40% over retail. When I asked them about it, they said it was a convenience fee! I bought more than $400 with of parts, they said they couldn't accept CC because they needed photo verification. I showed them a picture of my ID, but they still gave me a hard time. I didn't end up using all the parts and called and asked if I could return it a week later. Manager said ok, drove half an hour there and the manager called me As i literally pulled up to the store to tell me that their return policy is 7 days and that they couldn't accept it back. Professional, polite, and accommodating. I've been working with apple computers for the last 15 years and these guys immediately strike me as legit. Thanks for the adhesive strip (no one carries it). Anecdotally speaking, I feel bad for the clientele they have to deal with. If you had a negative experience here, I'm pretty certain YOU are the problem, not them. You are possibly scared of technology because it makes you feel dumb. Projecting your insecurities onto a business run by people with families is a shitty thing to do. Tech is complicated and it definitely aint cheap - you get what you pay for. Passing my mac book onto my sister...... i decided to take my book into spring st to wipe some of my personal files and photos, so my sister would have a clean slate. Even though i would be paying the $45 bucks to have spring st mac do this for me while the apple store would have been free; spring st was more convenient for me. the guys there were great in the fact that they completed the job quickly. once i picked up the mac book, paid for the work, i was off and shipping the book to my sister. once she received the book she was unable to log in with my user info. so i called spring st spoke with mike and was told they wiped my user name and created a new one. he emailed me the details of the new user name, however this was not working either. several emails sent to mike between myself and my sister to resolve the issue, resulted in my sister needing to take the computer into an apple or apple like store in texas. because i had already paid for the service and shipping to texas, i called mike up to ask what we could do to resolve, knowing that the computer was in texas he said he would happily take a look at the computer. i asked him who was going to pay for the shipping from texas back to la for him to look at it, he replied with "i can't help that you shipped the computer to texas". i then asked if he would be willing to provide some sort of credit for compensation and he said not without seeing the computer. i work in an industry where customer service makes it or breaks it, as i told mike and his bedside manner was lacking all kinds of service. he apologized that "this had happened" but there was nothing he could do without seeing the computer. next time i'll go out of my way to the apple store. read more

The best part of this shop is that it's convenient ONLY for us lazy folk who live downtown and don't want to schlep north of Temple or west of Fig to real Apple or electronic stores. Think of this place like an Urgent Care for iPhone disasters, but that's about it. Would I buy a computer here? Hellzno. The pricing is on par with small cities without competition or... Europe. SSM is like a convenience store. For example, SSM charges $ 50 for a MiniDisplay connector, where a real Apple location only charges $ 30 for the same. (Can I at least get a reach-around from the clerk of my choice with that boning???). The selection is small and basic. But if the thing from the Apple / electronics store fails, you'll get it replaced or a refund. The real rub: most of the accessories that I've bought at SSM have broken (even cables) within weeks after purchasing them, which would be okay if this shop just dealt with their janky merchandise and made the customer happy. But no, they don't. and I'm the dumbass for continuing to shop there. And yes, their 7 day / no refund / gift card only exchange / 15 % bullsh/t restocking fee policies (YOU'RE NOT THAT BUSY TO CHARGE A RESTOCKING FEE - JUST TURN AROUND AND PUT THE DAMN THING BACK ON ONE OF THE 3 SHELVES) are reason enough to Gold Line it straight to the Pasadena Apple store or drive up the 5 to Fry's. And in case the owner decides to reply or send a note offering a replacement: I've already wasted enough time trying to get happy in the store, including writing this review. Trust me just go to Apple instead. A friend told me to avoid this place and I should have listened. I had a good experience 4 years ago when I lived in the neighborhood and now that I'm back I figured I'd go back. Two weeks ago I had my iPhone X screen replaced there ($270) and today the screen goes totally black even though the phone is on and making sounds. I brought it back. They said it was the screen but they refused to honor their 30 day warranty, saying it was my fault, citing cosmetic damage on the rest of the phone (the reason I brought it to them in the first place). Now I'm out $270 and have a phone that doesn't work that I still need to get fixed. Worst is now that they touched it I don't think Apple will handle it. When the Apple Store disappoints, this is exactly where you should go! I came in here after I spilled on my laptop and the keyboard was damaged. I was able to get my laptop cleaned up with a brand new keyboard in a one day turnaround at almost $300 less than the Apple Store quoted me. Additionally, I wasn't going to have to get my hard drive completed wiped and wasn't laptop free for 8 days. About one month later, my keyboard crashed again. I brought my laptop in and Spring Street Mac was able to fix my computer again in just a few hours at no cost. The staff here is super friendly and have even sent me home with a free chord for my hard drive and cleaning wipes! I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an alternative to the Apple Store. read more

The charge for the battery diagnosis was refunded without my even asking, and I do believe that the owner was displeased with the service I received. My employee has a MacBook Pro that is just over 12 months old and within one OS update of current. Her charger stopped working and I sent her down to Spring Street Mac with the company credit card to buy a new charger. Beyond being kind of annoying about the credit card (even though we have an account with them and have purchased multiple items in the past), it seemed like a fine transaction. She came back with a new, original packaging, Apple charger. A couple of days later, her computer's battery was low and the new charger wasn't charging, so we began to worry that it wasn't ever the charger and that her MacBook had an issue. She went back down and the manager diagnosed her battery as nearly dead and said she could get it fixed at the Apple store under warranty or let them change the battery for $200. We decided to take it to the Apple store and, lo and behold, the battery tested as perfect and the Apple tech said the charger was a knockoff! We took photos and you can clearly see the difference between the two chargers. The fake one is on the right and the font isn't even the same! Apple took the knockoff charger and gave us a new one in exchange. I went back down to Spring Street Mac this afternoon and had a strange conversation. The manager told me that Apple has turned into an evil company and that they use a different way of diagnosing battery issues, and that he knows his distributors and they don't buy knockoffs. Sold me cheap knock off adaptors and chargers, not once but twice over the last year. the first time I thought it was just bad luck. This time I bought 2 $30 adapters for my laptop, not knowing which I would need for a projector. One stopped working after a few days. The other was NEVER OPENED and they refused any type of return, not even store credit! I came in 3 weeks after I bought it, not knowing about the 7 day return policy. ( I wrongly assumed a 30 day policy). Terrible customer service, telling me that the adapters are great quality, not believing me that the one I bought stopped working. No wonder they have a 7 day return policy! They sell cheap after market products at full price (not apple brand), which will break and then they refuse to return. Bought a iPhone screen protector from this place and had the salesman put the screen protector on for me . Within less than four days the screen protector had started to rise off the phone . When returning to spring street mac to see if they could replace there product the staff there refused and said it was not there issue . I have had two relatively bad experiences with this place. (1) I went in to have my iphone 4 fixed because I had cracked the screen. They said they could do it over my lunch break. When I got back they told me that the phone was fixed, but that they had forgotten to tell me that their fix was going to break the proximity sensor on the phone, and that I would forever have to hold the phone a little bit away from my face or my cheek would press buttons. That would have been nice to know before the "fix," because I could have taken it to an actual apple store and had it fixed properly. The Apple Store wouldn't touch it after a 3rd party had worked on it. (2) I bought an iPad cover for a gift at the store. When I got it home I realized that it had clearly been used, put back in the box, and taken back to the store where they just put it back on the shelf. It was all dirty and worn. I never would have noticed, but when I was wrapping it I saw that the box was a little munched and decided to investigate further. The wear on the actual product was really noticeable, and whoever was working at the store when the item was returned must have seen the wear, but they decided to put it back on the shelf and sell it as new anyway. The people are friendly in the store, hence the 2 stars instead of one, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the place. Just go to the Apple Store or Melrose Mac (I've had pretty good experiences with them). Sort of a shame since they are so convenient for people that live or work downtown. read more

I had an amazing experience here today! As beautiful as the Mac store is, with the modern architecture, soaring ceilings, and the cute guys looking at new gadgets, I kind of start to panic when I think about having to go there: will they not help me if I don't have an appointment? Do I have to sign up for an appointment online? What if it doesn't work, and I show up and they tell me I don't have one? Ugh! So today I went to Spring Street Mac, I heard that they "trick out" (do people still say that?) electronics for celebrities, so what the heck, I'll try it. Parking was really easy across the street, and I was surprised how beautiful the area was! I felt like I was in New York or San Francisco- can I move here? The shop was small and organized. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by David, who took care of me. I told him I broke the screen of my phone, and he said it was super easy, it would take an hour, and then he showed me some iphone cases because I wanted some of those as well. I asked him about the area, as well, the nearest bathroom, some things to do while I'm waiting, and he was very knowledgable and came up with some good ideas. I had brought in a book to read, but after hearing that they were near to Grand Central Market, I decided to go on an adventure instead (and shopping across the street- whoops!). I had so much fun around the area that I came back well after the time they told me it would be ready. My phone was all good to go, David threw in an iphone case (for an old iphone) on the house, and I didn't have to wait in any line or make any appointment! I'm glad to know that getting my phone fixed doesn't have to be a hassle, the people here are so friendly, happy to help, and helped me quickly. Thank you David and Spring Street Mac! I shattered my IPhone 4 face last weekend!! :-( My husband sent me their info after finding them on yelp. He liked the reviews and they were located relatively close to my office. I called and spoke to Mike on the phone and he informed me that no appointment was needed. He also was kind enough to let me know that if I wanted it fixed before Thursday, to come in right away because their IPhone guy was going to be out for a couple of days. I ran down there and dropped my phone off expecting to come by the next day to pick it up when they said it will be ready in 45 minutes!! Stopped back down after work to pick my phone up and it looked brand new! The gentleman (Mike?) threw in a screen protector and even attached it for me!! This store has some really shady practices going on. I brought my iPhone in for a cracked screen repair and when I got it back the cameras and flashlight didn't work. When I brought it back in they said the screen has nothing to do with those components. They said when I dropped my phone it likely broke the camera and flashlight and when they took the screen off it may have "loosened the other parts". Nonetheless they were able to get my phone swapped out at Apple which I thought was a great thing they did. However the new phone had a touch screen delay issue, and the camera had horizontal lines, like a loose cable or something. Very similar issues to the previous phone. It was very strange a "brand new phone" would have the same issues. they said "it's a new phone so you have to take it to apple". aka, we don't want to take responsibility anymore. I brought it to Apple and after a few hours they said the screen is third party so the warranty is voided. Spring Street Mac replaced my phone, told me it was a brand new phone, but secretly took the apple screen off and placed a third party screen on to it, and hid it. This is unethical and why I'm reporting them to the BBC and Business Bureau of LA. When I called them out on it they responded that a third party screen is what I originally paid for, that they are not responsible for other problems that arrise during a repair, and that a refund or fixing of the current issues was something they wouldnt offer. They literally said "we repair hundreds of screens and this issue has never happened, which for whatever reason they think they are not capable of making a mistake. Imagine you cracked your screen, bring it in for repair and then your cameras and flashlight don't work and the company takes no responsibility for it. I dropped my iPhone 4s in water for a few seconds. After drying it off, I tried using it. Stupid move! A word of advice, if you drop any electronic device in water - don't press any buttons or try to turn it on. Leave it alone and put it in rice and/or scilica (those little packets that come in beef jerky or shoe boxes to keep moisture out) for a few days to dry it out. I did, and 2 days later it worked!!! However, I must have damaged the battery by trying use it when it was wet, because it didn't hold a charge for very long. So I called the Apple store and they said it would cost $200 to replace the battery! A total rip off! Apple has great products but once you buy one, they have you by the short and curlies! I found Sprint Street Mac on the internet and decided to give them a try mainly because of the reviews and because they are close to my work. I was in and out in 20 minutes with a new battery and it only cost me $60! The guys were nice, knowledgeable and and easy on the eyes ;-) My phone works great now. They even told me about Liguipel - a company that waterproofs phones for only $60! I'm definitely doing that with my next phone. I'm not sure how well these guys do with more complicated issues but judging by the reviews and my experience, this is definitely the place to go if you need a screen or battery replaced. I will certainly have SSM take the first crack at trying to repair any of my non-functioning Apple products in future. You guys saved me $140! Thanks Spring Street Mac!!!! read more

My hard drive was crashing in my iMac. It had given me many symptoms, refusing to wake up, taking forever to shut down (literally all night), and then I got this weird "Application Memory" (all used up, or something like that) message, usually in the mornings. I took my iMac in for service. Everyone was helpful, after I left it, Mike Joseph called me up, asked if I wanted a 4 TB upgrade (from 1 TB) for a little more money. I said "Yes." He had my Mac ready in two hours. (I guess business was slow) The price was very good, the service excellent, my iMac is now running fast and smooth again, plus more storage. My only complaint, PARKING. I found a street spot on the south side of Spring when I dropped it off. But I picked it up after 4 PM and all of the street parking was closed for rush hour traffic, so I had to park at 6th & Main for $3 for 20 minutes, and walk two blocks, which wasn't too bad. I have fixed my lap top at this place. Not the best service. Looks like some people prefer only talk a lot. My lap top works okay now but sometimes it still has some bugs. Not sure that screen will be kept in a good condition. Not recommend. read more

I have had two experiences here. First I brought a 2007 iMac to have the hard drive professionally erased and to update to give it to my nephew. Wow, when I turned it on to set it up for my nephew, it was like a brand new computer! I was extremely happy. About six months later, I brought my MacBook Air in because I kept getting a message that the hard drive was full. Without charging me any money, they looked at the laptop for about ten minutes and told me what to buy (a jet drive) . . . but they didn't have it for my laptop so I bought it on Amazon. I offered to pay a consultation fee, but they refused. We are lucky to have this resource in the neighborhood. read more

THE COMPUTER I PURCHASED ONLY WORKED FOR 11 MONTHS... The people that work here are nice but the refurbished products they sell are faulty (BUYER BEWARE). I purchased a 15" MacBook Pro back in April 2018 for $800+tax and once the 30day warranty expired the machine started giving me problems. The computer would get extremely hot and the fan would continuously run (I was only running Microsoft Word). Finally, in March 2019 (11 mo's later) the computer's logic board gave out and my computer wouldn't boot up. Conveniently, the logic board is something that Spring Street Mac is unable to repair so of course, they suggest that I purchase a new machine from them. Needless to say, I will never again do business with this establishment. I thought I was purchasing a dependable machine but what they sold me was a ticking time bomb. If you are looking for a reliable computer I would recommend that you avoid shopping here unless you are into being scammed. read more
