I usually get their drinks at 30 or 50% sweetness. My favorites are: Cheese foam alpine green tea: 50% sugar and less foam Taro milk tea with sago: 30% sugar. Beware they use real taro so it is thick/chunky Earl grey milk tea: 50% sugar Watermelon green tea: 50% sugar, this one is usually summer seasonal Pomelo cold brew oolong: 30% sugar. We were doing a few errands and found ourselves wanting some boba. Yelp came to the rescue again. We found this gem using our map. Let's talk about location. It is easy to find as it faces the Main Street, and there's plenty of parking. When we entered it is a modestly sized business and the interior is modern, but cozy. There's also limited seating. They have many drinks on the menu and customizable levels of sweetness. It is important to note that the Thai tea comes presweetened, so it cannot be adjusted. They'll add ice to dilute the beverage. The other drinks seem to be adjustable. The staff is efficient, friendly and quick with the orders. We got Thai tea with boba and matcha mil tea with grass jelly. The drinks were delicious and not watered down. Overall this is a great spot for a quick grab, but not to sitting to talk. read more

One of my fave boba spot on Bellaire located in the Dun Huang plaza. The interior is a bit small but there are a couple of tables to sit at. It does get pretty crowded on a weekend night but service is pretty quick. Probably not an ideal place to study or do work. My fave drinks are the jasmine milk tea and grapefruit green tea. I like the consistency of the drinks here and they don't tend to make it too sweet. Finally got to try the iconic alpine green tea, it's pretty good! I don't think it's my favorite drink but I can see why so many people like it, and I'd definitely purchase again. The 80% was the perfect sweetness level - depends on how strong you'd like your tea flavor to be. Also, the pearls are perfect! They were soft, chewy, & full of flavor. The milk foam compliments the tea as well. However, there are different vibes do this TeaTop compared to the two in the Bay Area. This one is a lot bougie-er with fancier lights, nice wooden tables for studying or chatting with friends and a better aesthetic lewk. Their restroom is clean and their service is fast. My go-to is usually the Earl Grey with 3 chewy things: boba, grass jelly and lychee jelly...it's on their specialty menu. It was just as good and their toppings were just as bountiful. SCORE. It's a bummer they don't have a frequent buyer punch card like the ones back in the Bay have. These drinks come out to $5 or more if you end up getting the best drinks, which are probably specialty. That's the only bummer, but it's basically the same quality as the TeaTop's in CA. Parking is kinda tight since it's shared with a bunch of other stores in the Asian plaza, but you make do. This is definitely one of my top favorite boba tea places that I've ever been to! It is a little bit pricey, but I feel like the tea flavor itself in the drinks that I have gotten are just right. I usually get less sugar, but it doesn't taste watered down or anything at all to me. My favorite drink to get that's kind of basic is the jasmine green milk tea. I feel like this is a drink you can't go wrong with! I've also tried the sun moon lake milk tea, and I thought it was really good also! I would seriously get this again! With the uprise in boba joints popping up, it's not hard to spend $5-6 on a drink. Prices here are still pretty reasonable, many of them ranging in $4-5. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there were tons of people. It gets cramped really easily and we struggled to not be in someone else's' personal space as we were enjoying our drink! There is a huge communal table on one side of the place, and on the other side were 4-5 mini tables with booths and stand alone chairs. I would not recommend studying at this place; music is so loud (but at least it's good EDM lol), and huge groups of people will come here just to hang out. Tea Top, I'm sorry but I'm not really sold on it (yet). It be the beautiful top models that end up falling short in miss universe tho, although not always true. Came here for the signature alpine green milk tea and mango green tea. One which belong to the top 10 drinks and one which did not. In my opinion, the mango green tea the one that wasn't tasted better than the green milk tea. The mango green tea actually tasted like mango so I really appreciated that. Tea Top is officially my #1 bubble tea chain. Ousting an unnamed competitor, Tea Top has top notch teas paired with well/cooked tapioca pearls. I don't know - something about the tea they use specifically here is different in flavor and you know you're getting the real deal. Plus their special tea is from Sun Moon Lake and sometimes you just gotta rep Central Taiwan. I usually stick to their variations of milk tea from their menu, and I appreciate that they have a category for "milk tea" made with non-dairy creamer (yay for the lactose-intolerant) and the "fresh milk" drinks as well. I've had both their oolong and Sun Moon Lake tea multiple times and there's definitely a strong tea taste in their drinks. I don't get the tapioca every time but when I do, they've been perfectly cooked and soaked in sugar syrup. Also, I'm that person that orders less sugar with their drinks and I've found that their 25%/30% option is perfect for me. The interior of the Bellaire location is small, and cute as usual. Some good tables to study at during the slower hours, but it can get pretty busy and crowded in the evenings. If you're in the Dun Huang plaza, definitely don't count Tea Top out! Tea Top is pretty decent. It's one of the many bubble tea stores at the Bellaire shopping center, but it focuses strongly on bubble tea basics: Milk/black tea and green tea. There are a few miscellaneous drinks, but they are few and still Asian themed. Namely, mung bean or passion fruit. I had the 50% sweet sun moon lake milk tea with tapioca, and my companion had the 50% sweet earl grey milk tea with tapioca. Both drinks were on the sweeter side, and the tapioca was also on the sweeter side. I actually liked the earl grey milk tea better than my own sun moon lake milk tea. I got the sun moon lake milk tea for its exotic sounding name. Turns out that the sun moon lake milk tea is the name of a brand of milk tea powder. But that's cool: At least the workers were cute and friendly. Other than that, Tea Top has the same issues with every other bubble tea place at Chinatown: Parking is difficult to find, and you'll find a line in every bubble tea store after 11. But what we did find was very, very delicious. We ordered the Black Pearl Tiger ($5 after tax) and it came with almost double the amount of tapioca you usually get at other places!! The other drinks didn't come with as many balls, but the Tiger did and I wouldn't change a single thing about that drink. Happened to pass by Tea Top on the way to Kamalan Bakery and noticed that it was open. It wasn't open the previous times we had walked by. Seeing that the place is from Taiwan (where all great bobas hail), we decided to give it a try. Got the matcha latte and husband got the signature alpine green milk tea with boba. We also got to sample the sun moon lake black tea with 50% sugar. It wasn't overly sweet and the tea was good. I liked that the matcha latte can be made unsweetened, and that it was made with fresh milk (lactose free too!). The lady behind the counter kept warning me that an unsweetened matcha latte is extremely bitter, but it tasted fine. Matcha is supposed to be bitter! And it wasn't even that bitter. Overall I enjoyed it, but won't be my favorite, still prefer the one from Whole Foods or central market. The Alpine green milk tea was spectacular though. There's a very pleasant flavor to the tea and distinctly different than any other green tea I've ever had. I loved it. Their boba is good too, sweet and chewy, although KFT still has the best boba in my opinion. At first glance the pricing appears high, around $5/cup, but the cups are big so guess it evens out. A new bubble tea shop in Chinatown is gonna get a lot of buzz regardless of how good it is, but Tea Top makes a strong impression with its delightfully brewed teas and its unique milk foam and cheese toppings. Yes, you read that correctly - CHEESE! Only a few other places in Houston offer a creamy cheese topping atop boba drinks - one being Houston's first Tea Top out in Katy Asian Town. Don't worry though, it's not swiss, parmesan, or cheddar - it's a thick, creamy, tangy layer that floats right on top of whichever tea you pick. It tastes a lot like light cream cheese or mascarpone, but I'm sure if you didn't tell someone it was cheese they'd probably just think it was yogurt. It's a must-try experience - I admit the first taste was a little strange, but it quickly grew on me - it's quite addictive! The sticker on top of the lid described three ways to enjoy the drink: sipping the milk/cheese layer directly, sticking the straw to the bottom to taste the tea, and then mixing the layers together to get the full effect. The teas themselves are delicious - the Alpine Green tea had a wonderful aromatic quality, and the Sun Moon Lake milk tea reminded me of the first (revelatory) sip of milk tea I ever had as a kid. The perfectly cooked tapioca pearls were tender and chewy and a little smaller than the ones elsewhere (which I don't mind). Drinks range from $3.50-$5.50, and the menu is rather extensive. Service is relatively efficient, given the (short) lines you'll probably see in the space. There's not much space to work, at least on the weekends - it'll be full with happy, boisterous clientele. For all my vegan friends out there, the creamer they use in the milk teas says that it's lactose and dairy free but it contains sodium casein (which is not vegan bc it is a milk derivative) BUT you can substitute almond milk for an extra $1!!! I must admit that I was hesitant to try this place during their soft opening phase because I just wanted to go to my favorite tapioca shop, but this place may be the new top contender! I ordered a milk foam alpine green tea with 30% sugar and tapioca. Their milk foam was the creamiest, thickest foam I've tried in milk foam typed drink, and their tapioca was perfectly soft in texture! When they open up their full menu I'm excited to try their cheese foam! There are cute signs in the shop to snap pics of your drinks with also! read more

I ordered here for the first time to go for me and a bunch of friends. I didn't really have high of an expectation because there are so many boba places around. However the taste of the drinks I ordered are so delicious. It has more of a tea taste to it and the milk doesn't really overpower the taste of the tea. I also love the fact that they have a lactose free option with their "fresh milk" column. My cousin, who is lactose, especially enjoyed it. She didn't have any problems afterwards. We ordered the sun moon milk tea regular and lactose free. I took a sip from both and they are super tasty and similar in taste. 5/5. I ordered the specialty alpine green tea for my friend and she loved it. 5/5. I also ordered their top fruit tea (which I can't remember the name to) for my friend and he loves it as well. 5/5. I can't wait to come back and try the others. My friend had come in here once before and didn't have a good impression of their taste, but this second time around she tried it - she ended up loving it. Tea top was one of the only good boba shops I had when living in Maryland for a couple years. Because of that, I tend to avoid this shop when I am craving boba because this was basically all I had prior to moving here to HTX. I keep telling myself to stop, because I really love their Wintermelon Green Tea. It is VERY hard to find a boba shop that makes decent Wintermelon Green Tea, where there's a fine balance between the taste of Wintermelon and Green Tea. Generally, I always prefer to have a stronger tea flavor while the other parts of the drink acts more so as a note or as a supplement. But here, the combination at equal parts is great! The service is pretty quick, as they have multiple employees making the drinks. Seating wise, this place can be a little packed, so you may sometimes have a hard time chilling there with friends. read more

Chinatown's boba competition is steep, but Tea Top is one of the contestants for the best. I've enjoyed every drink I've gotten here, especially the milk teas. I have yet to try their fruit teas, but I'm excited to do so in the future. Their drinks are also beautiful and so picturesque (super instagrammable)! For my most recent visit I decided to try the pearl matcha latte and their valentine's special, rose milk tea. Milk Foam Rose Green Milk Tea - 5/5 Super delicious and concentrated rose flavor. Probably the best rose flavored tea I've tried in awhile. I used to love the rose milk tea at honey bees, but sadly they closed a while back. This is definitely as close as I'll get to the honey bees version. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try a new unique milk tea flavor or just anyone who's a sucker for rose flavored drinks. Pearl Matcha Latte - 4/5 I got it at 50% sweet and honestly the drink was a bit too bitter for my taste. I think 70% sweet would probably be perfect if you like a more sweet matcha taste. Nonetheless, the matcha was super concentrated and authentic. I think it paired extremely well with the brown sugar, tapioca, and red bean. My only complaint is that the wait is usually super long at Tea Top. They have a new system where you can order ahead and skip the line, so I definitely recommend using that. The employees are also sometimes listless, which doesn't really help because it can get a bit loud in there, so I have trouble hearing what they say. Other than that, their drinks are fire and I can't wait to try more! read more
