It's Jumbo Jumbo Cafe! How could anyone not resist going to a place with that as it's name? I ventured all the way from VA just to try this place out ( and hang out with friends ) but this was definitely worth it. It's a small cafe, with a small parking lot next to a gas station. When I went here, there was ample parking but don't let the one hour limit scare you. I'm sure you won't find a lot of people here on a Sunday afternoon.. I got the usual, Passionfruit Green Tea with Lychee Jelly. Of course, I got it in the biggest size because why not? Go big or go home right? Drinking it however, it didn't feel any different compared to the other boba places I've went to. The taste felt the same but hey.. you get a lot for what you pay for right? It's okay. I feel like the food is probably the star here. For me, the Taiwanese Fried Chicken was what I was mainly here for. You might be thinking, this is a lot of driving just for some chicken. Let me tell you this. These bite sized, juicy, succulent pieces of chicken will always be worth the trip no matter where I am. I absolutely love that it comes in a small bucket too. It's great as a way to share with your friends but me being someone who just loves food a bit too much, I ate it all along with drinking the tea I got too. If there's one thing I can say about the chicken though; it's not spicy at all. Maybe the other locations do it better but I did not feel the intense heat. The chicken wings were mushy. It wasn't freshly fried but instead I think they just added some sauce on already battered wings. It was NOT GOOD! The Taiwanese chicken hasn't changed thankfully but no basil was added on top. I don't think I'll be going back any time soon. read more

Friendly service, short wait for take-out orders, inviting interior (clean and modern, airy). However, food is definitely not the same as the Jumbo Jumbo in Rockville. Menu is much shorter and simpler, and the taste is definitely Americanized (unlike the authentic Jumbo Jumbo). Packaging is different too (still good packaging). The kumquat drink is still great (same taste as the branch in Rockville). The fried tempura is so bland that we didn't finish it. It's supposed to be our favorite dish. Don't order that one at this branch (the Rockville store is much better). Taiwanese popcorn is alright but not as good as those from Rockville. Not enough basil (love fried basil). Not enough spice. The taiwanese chicken is great even without any seasoning, the braised ground pork and egg rice is also a good dish. We also enjoyed the mango bubbles unique texture and the milk tea but the plastic cup was so flimsy when i got home it fell on the side and the cup had a large split and I lost most of the untouched tea. read more

A cute little place! I got there right when they opened, so I had no wait to order and it only took a few minutes for my drink. I ordered a Pumpkin Spice Milk Tea, which is a seasonal menu item. They had a couple different toppings you could choose from for the drinks if you want them, so I added some boba to mine. The flavor itself wasn't really that strong, but it still tasted good. Came here for boba but was tempted by the shaved ice and taro balls. They were so good! The shaved ice is HUGE and comes with 3 toppings of your choice. The taro balls were like fried donuts with tarp in the middle. The staff are really nice and are happy to explain their menu to you (the shaved ice isn't on the menu, but uses the same ingredients). Ordered fried squid takeaway, the squid was yellow and stiff like it was left out in the air for a week, the breading was not flavorful and crispy, but a gross, translucent, soggy mess of rice flour. I paid for a meal which was supposed to include an entree and sides, but was only given the entree with no sides. I didn't realize it was supposed to come with sides until after leaving. Getting scammed out of food you paid for is never a good experience. Also, the beef noodle soup was served in a flimsy disposable plastic bowl which means some of that plastic is breaking down into the scalding hot broth and you're consuming it. I would say that this place is one of my emergency bubble tea places when I am in the area. Since most places have been closed due to the pandemic, we haven't had bubble tea for almost 3 months now and going from bubble tea 3 times a week to having nothing for a long period of time really takes a toll on you. Luckily, this place was still opened when things were slowly reopening, but all the other bubble tea places were still closed. Not many choices around and really craving it, we came here. They had the distancing portions set up with tables in between the cash register and you. So at least they are taking precautions. The things about this place that still bothers me is that the drinks are pre-made. There is pretty much no customization. One view is that it is easy to order and no real reason why the drinks take a while to come out. On the other hand, it is hard to really adjust the flavorings to your liking. Especially when every other place does it. Also, the predetermined size of jumbo just does not fit in a cup holder. Sure it is a unique shape and size, but not being able to put it in a cup holder really hampers my ability to come here as I either put it on my seat or on the car floor and watch it flop around while driving. It is sealed, but it is nerve wrecking if you do not know when the seal will break while you take a hard left or right turn. read more

I've been here a few times, and although the ambience and service are nice, the food is a hit or miss. The Taiwanese chicken is good and plentiful for the price, and that's what I usually get. My vegetarian friend got the crispy tofu, rice noodle spring rolls, and a hard boiled egg while I got the winter melon milk. Starting with the winter melon milk, I got it because of several good reviews on Yelp. I liked that the flavor wasn't too sweet which is how jumbo jumbo usually makes its bubble tea. It tasted just like caramel, not how I would imagine a winter melon drink to taste like. I don't particularly like caramel, so I wouldn't get that again. The crispy tofu had a nice texture on the outside, but the sauce was so salty. I think it was a combo of soy sauce and garlic sauce but it didn't taste good at all. Friend liked it though. The rice noodle spring roll was nice, had a layer of crispiness on the outside and mushroom and vermicelli inside. Small but tasty. I had a wonderful experience with Jumbo Jumbo in Germantown. I called up the night before to order a metric f-ton of Taiwanese Popcorn chicken. Ya know... #LivinTheDream So I order 3 large trays of Taiwanese Popcorn chicken, that's technically 36 orders of popcorn chicken #Y16As. They take payment over the phone, I schedule it for six the next day. I come... pick up the chicken. They had it ready at 6 like they said they would. All of the chicken was cooked perfectly. They helped me load it into the car. They gave me more than enough skewers More than enough napkins. They poked holes in the top of the foil to make sure the chicken didn't get all soggy. The gentleman I dealt with at the store was very nice. Tbh, I was a little worried, cause I've only ever ordered the chicken from the Rockville location. And I was a bit worried that the consistency might just not be there from one store to another. Our chicken was cooked really well. IF ANYTHING, I wish there was a bit more fried basil... but I kinda always wan't more fried basil... so I'm not sure if that was just me. Overall a great experience. There's a coupon/discount system where you sign up with your number and will receive text messages with deals. To claim these deals, you will just have to put in your number after you order. Unfortunately, this means that they no longer accept the punch cards. You will have to go to the other locations. Also, no more pork buns! ----------------------------------------- I used to go to the one in Rockville! Now I only have to drive 5 minutes to get to this one!! Sooo goodd! Obvi the go-to thing to get is the Taiwanese fried chicken but if you want soup, def get the combination udon noodle soup. The portion is huge for the price you pay.
