If you are looking for an oasis to catch up with new or old friends and enjoy a little brunch or snack or something sweet, it's pretty difficult to find a better place than Tea Bar and Bites. Honestly, the place feels like a courtyard in Southern France or Northern Italy, and inside the cozy atmosphere is just as much like something out of old Europe. The $5 oatmeal and the lack of a basic non-sugar mix black chai option make it a little less than perfect, but come on. Where else can you get this unbearable atmosphere and the excellent, scrumptious, goat cheese and rosemary scones? You're not going to find it. I come here when never I get the urge for a PB&J. There is nothing like the butter when it mixes and moshes with the jelly. Nothing better I say. Mmmm hmmm. This is the 3rd best place to get one in Springfield. Behind the General Store and my great grandfather Scobin's sandwhich. Please order it and be transported back to a simpler and way more amazing time when you were in grade school and loved to play hopscotch. Go to the back courtyard behind the seating courtyard and look at the intensive garden where the freshness comes alive from the ground to your plate! Lime & thyme potato salad is solid. Mediterranean sampler is house apex dish, secret homemade balsamic dressing, authentic feta, house made olive tapenade, and excellent humus and cucumber yogurt dip. Beer is cold, service is good, ambiance is nicely done! I just hosted a baby shower at Tea Bar & Bites last weekend. First, let me say that Jaymee was great to work with. I planned this shower from St. Louis, and Jaymee was a great help in getting everything set up and helping me determine the menu, etc. We had the shower in "Mary's Room", the back private room. It was already set up and ready for us. We had 14 people, which was the perfect amount for that room. The food was delicious-- we got fruit skewers, assorted quiche, bruschetta, and mini cupcakes. The fruit was so fresh and good. Assorted quiche was a great pick as well - big pieces and very filling. We got 2 different varieties of the mini cupcakes- chocolate ganache and vanilla strawberry-- they both were delightful! I would definitely suggest checking out Tea Bar & Bites for your next small event. They also have a nice large patio if the weather is right! I had eaten there one other time prior to the shower, and their curry chicken salad, couscous and orange cranberry scones were great! read more

After reading all the great reviews, I was excited to try this cute place out and treat my mother to breakfast. We were charmed by the creative decor and loved the selection of teas so we had high hopes for our visit. What a disappointment! The service was not great. I wouldn't think twice about the service issues if they were busy, but the place was dead. We were seated at 10:10 a.m. and only one other patron present. To start with the featured quiche wasn't being served - minor setback but ordered spinach artichoke ones instead. And then the server neglected to put my mother's order in and then got it wrong when she did. Food looked great when it arrived. Cinnamon muffin was pretty tasty - bit too dry & crunchy but great flavor. Both quiches were doughy & obviously heated in the microwave because both were burning hot in some places & cold in others. For $7.95 each, I was not impressed. Didn't complain & still left a tip because it wasn't bad enough to raise a fuss but wasn't at all the experience I expected. I might give them one more chance in the future - at a later time since morning is obviously not when they are at their best. read more

When my friend and I had lunch here the other day, we couldn't believe we hadn't discovered it years ago. The decor is charming, as are the servers. There is a lovely outdoor courtyard that would be perfect for a group of friends on a warm day. There is also a massage parlor next door and a couple of shops in the same strip, so it would make a fun afternoon outing. I had the Mediterranean plate, and it was delicious -- particularly the tapenade and humus. Because there was a festival taking place on nearby Walnut street, the place was extremely crowded, but our server was still quite attentive. I am hoping to make it one of their theme dinners sometime. I highly recommend this tea room for a change in routine. read more

The iced tea is amazing. It is their own special blend, so don't try to ask for the recipe. Their portions are just right, but I rarely have leftovers unless I order the platter that has falafel, grape leaves, salad, hummus, tapenade, feta, and pita. The pot pie and meatloaf are excellent. Lots of light flowing in through charming little ancient old windows. Lovely old tablecloths. It could be a set for a movie with Rachel McAdams. This place used to make you feel welcome and taken care of. However, three of the last four times have been less than satisfying. No. 1, don't plan on the breakfast menu at the time they open at 9:00. Second time I've gone at opening time and felt like I woke the staff up, no quiche of the day, etc. Today was especially bad. I love their food for the most part but it's the service that has been poor lately. I had a waitress not allow me to order from lunch menu even 15 minutes before lunch started, so we ordered a muffin to hold over until lunch and then we didn't see the waitress for 30 minutes or more after she delivered the muffin. I think the room is often forgotten that I was in. The second most recent experience was that I went for happy hour and I ordered their sliders and the waitress came out and said sorry the buns are hard but we forgot to thaw them so I had to thaw in microwave and then toast. Well, I was so hard a butter knife couldn't cut into it., like harder than burnt toast. So I brought this to their attention and they said, oh I knew I shouldn't have served that. Location is a bit out of the way for us but worth it! Tea rooms are my favorite thing. Good tea selection. Service was friendly but busy during the lunch hour. Ordered the tomato soup and London Fog tea and was not disappointed! Soup had generous chunky tomatoes, not just broth like most tomato soups I have had. Decor is very quaint. Disclaimer: my best friend's mom is the owner. That being said, I'm picky. I love it or hate it. This place, I love! It all started when I lived behind the Tea Bar and walked over, followed by my cat Romeo, and drank coffee on the patio every morning. Those days I couldn't really afford much else there. Now it is my favorite place to take my toddler on our days off together. He loves the hummus and I love everything else. It's not cheap, you pay for quality and the fact that you know where your food is coming from and that it's not laden with pesticides. I'm not a tea drinker but I do know that they have a great selection and the desserts are all fresh and baked with love. Tea Bar is small and cozy and the kind of place where girlfriends can meet and chat and feel at home. The staff is all knowledgeable and friendly and you will always see the same faces. It is always a warm-fuzzy moment when you know that people who are serving you love what they do and truly care about your experience. You get that when you dine at Tea Bar. Worst food and service I have had in my life. It took an hour to get a lemonade. I ordered the Asian chicken wrap and the sauce tasted nothing like peanuts. It was very bitter. The patio is reminiscent of a Spanishy patio, which is just a nice relief in Springfield, MO. The inside is close and intimate. Their walls are constantly changing with local art. As you would expect, they have a nice long list of teas. The rooibos vanilla tea is phenomenal! I have tried nearly all of their vegetarian options. The hummus is pretty good, I'm not a fan of the potato salad with thyme, and the grilled cheese is nice. However, it is the daily special of quiche that keeps me coming back for more. So many things about Tea Bar's very existence are worth mentioning. First of all, it's a stand-out business for the Rountree neighborhood (Rountree and Phelps are the best SGF neighborhoods, just so all you south-side north-side naysayers know...) and serves the local community and culture amazingly well just by being so successfully unique. As far as the aesthetic goes, it's great, as long as you're okay with getting in touch with your slightly whimisical side. Upon walking in, you're nearly overwelcomed by warm wood tones and on every surface, a full display case of baked treats, and plenty of bubbly (or at least cordial!) employees. Beyond the entry room, you'll find a maze of small dining rooms that are absolutely stuffed with tables, chairs, and cushy, somewhat effiminate décor. There's something decidedly Harry Potter about it all, and I mean that in the best possible way - Tea Bar just feels a little bit magical in its shabby-chic uniqueness, and I wouldn't even describe it as Mediterranean in design, though it is a Mediterranean restaurant. That's neither here nor there, though, because its grandma-like coziness is a very good thing indeed if you're not a doofy macho-man who only likes eating out at places like Buffalo Wild Wings. What? It had to be said. The food is just as good, and if you've never been, you'd do well to order the tea bar sampler. It's a lot of food, but it's the best way to get the full experience. Although I'm NOT a fan of chicken unless I've caught it myself on the wild prairie (theoretical statement), I always cave and get Tea Bar's curry chicken because it's irresistably smooth and flavorful. I also love the baby scones - what's NOT to love about baby scones, though? Also, when I was here a few weeks ago, I ordered pumpkin chipotle soup as a side, and all I could say to describe it was "Wow." Everything is genuine and made with love. Decided to try this place based on reviews. It is a good place for a cup of tea and dessert with a friend on thepatio. Lunch, not so much. Inside, not so much. The rooms are tiny and crowded. We heard everything the tables next to us were talking about. It was so uncomfortable and awkward. The food came out in very small servings and was ridiculously overpriced for what we received. It tasted alright but if we pay $10 for half a plate of food, it better be amazing. They do have gluten free options which is nice but the staff are not very knowledgeable. Even after I clearly stated I wanted our players to come with pita on the side because I need it G free, she brought them out with scones on the plate. The waitress was not especially attentive and by the end of the meal, my husband had to go hunt her down because she had taken our card and ten minutes later, still had not returned We love trying new places and I really appreciate the gluten free but I don't know that we will be back. It's location is a bit away from the busy areas of Springfield in a residential neighborhood which lends to seclusion, privacy, relaxation, and a parking disaster. I have been here multiple times and the food is always appropriately portioned, of seemingly fresh ingredients, and tastes great. I love a good cuppa tea, especially loose leaf. I had some time to kill before picking up kids from school so I ducked into this delightful little place. I was not disappointed. One of my favorite spots, and I don't drink tea! I've probably been here 30 times for lunch over the past 5 years, and the food is always excellent. Everything I have tried has been delicious. My favorites are the chicken curry salad, whether as a sandwich or not, and the veggie pita with tzatziki. And everything in the beautiful dessert display cabinet! The serving sizes are perfect for lunch, not too skimpy and not too large. No sodas available here, but they do have a great hot chocolate when the weather is cold! The atmosphere is quaint, quirky, and homey, but at times a bit awkward, as space is very limited, floors uneven, the entry area cramped, and chairs and tables mismatched, small and close together.
