Service was friendly and fast. Place is cute inside and bigger than it looks. Eight tables (4 tops and 2 tops), a rocking chair and bar seating by the window. Savory and sweet scones, muffins, plain bagels, yogurt parfaits, smoothies. Wide selection of hot and cold coffees, tea (Numi) and hot cocoa and lemonade. The drip coffee is on the bitter side. The scone is dry and hard as they are supposed to be. Not super sweet. I tell myself that means it's healthy. read more

The first and last place we hit when we visit Springfield is inevitably The Dancing Mule. We have filled two frequent visitor cards so far...and we only visit Springfield once a year. When I say they have the best coffee, I am not lying. My husband loves the blended drinks, while I am a latte girl. But do not sleep on their baked goods, especially the scones. I enjoy stopping at little local coffee shops and we've had our eye on this one for a little while. They have drive through and order inside only, at this time. They have a variety of juice and pastries. There's a few table games and little cute mule decorations. I had a blueberry muffin which was delicious. Really good coffee. I drink black drip. It's strong and bold. My fam gets the flavored drinks. They say they are better than bucks cause they are not as sweet. The staff doesn't go out of their way to acknowledge you when you come in. One lady was walking out when she gave it another try to walk up to the counter. Two older people walked in. The lady went to talk to the staff. We could hear her say she would be doing allot better if there where not people in her chair!! The rockers by the front door have tags saying Sara John. This is one of our favorite coffee shops in town. Complete with a drive thru and a few tables inside, it's a great spot for meeting a friend or taking a coffee to go. I've tried several coffees on their menu, but the dirty chai is one of my favorites. Their lattes can be pretty sweet, but the staff is great about putting in half syrups or half sweet if requested if you don't like a super sweet drink. They have a wide variety of sugar free syrups, scones (including a delicious sausage and cheese one that's my favorite) and other small food menu items. Moved to springfield recently and love trying new coffee places! Decided to give this place and try and it was definitely worth it! I'm more of an iced coffee kind of girl but saw the turtle mocha pictured on Yelp and had to give it a try! If you like sweet coffee, it's a must try. We also ordered a cinnamon roll and triple chocolate chip cookie. The cinnamon roll was warm and delicious. The inside of the shop was cute and cozy. Also, I kept seeing a biscuit stuffed with sausage on pics but when I went in, they were covered up and whatever they named it did not immediately click with what I saw on the pics. The Dancing Mule was a great find during my Springfield coffee trip. They were shop 3 out of 3 and definitely worth the wait. Located within a strip mall, The Dancing Mule is very cheerful and has a "at home" feel. I was greeted immediately at 9:42 AM on a Friday morning. My macchiato was served in a bright yellow cup (very nice touch!). Something I noticed about Springfield coffee shops: they all deliver your coffee to your table, instead of standing behind the counter and yelling out the order which is a very good thing. While there was no specific latte art, the macchiato had a perky grapefruit undertone which I enjoyed. Definitely the best coffee place I have found that's walking distance to Mercy Hospital! I tried their pumpkin spice iced coffee and it was pretty good and the blueberry scone which I thought was kind of dry. After I went then someone told me to try the cinnamon roll so I will definitely be going back to try it. I also want to try their vanilla honey iced coffee. I love that this place has a drive thru, it's very convenient. The price is reasonable and they offer punch cards to earn free drinks. Coffee flavor is good. I typically get frappe drinks and I like coconut milk, they use a non-diary powder that I don't really care for, that's the only negative thing. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. I have only been inside once and it was for a to go order, but everything appeared clean. The smell of the coffee is wonderful, even going through the drive thru. Letting our dinner settle before dessert we stopped in for a coffee; I got a iced house coffee. I found their coffee to be lacking a certain something. I'd call it a "safe coffee" it didn't have a signature flavor or any lingering tastes. It seemed to finish clean and crisp, no hints of smoothness, or rich notes. A very mild coffee flavor in fact there wasn't enough room for my cream so I drank it straight to create room, and I don't drink black coffee! The taste was that mild. It seemed as though they took a strong coffee and watered it down about 3 times. On a positive note they had more sugar free syrups than any other place I had been to. I'd go back if in the area and needed a coffee, but it's not my first choice. read more

This was my first visit - and you only get one chance to make a good first impression. This is my first time of going here and I ordered a butterbeer latte with an extra shot of espresso. The espresso portion was mild but flavorful. The flavoring portion was barely there - but I could taste the butterbeer. I don't know what it is that's causing coffee shops to spring up like dandelions all over town, but whatever it is, I rather like it. This new coffeeshop is a pleasant place to stop in. The employees are friendly, the decor is relaxing, and the coffee is good. They also have a swipe card that doubles as a gift certificate/payment card and a loyalty reward card (though I did not ask the exact terms of the loyalty program when I got it). My one concern is that some items seem a little pricey. Whereas $3.10 for a 12 oz, $3.60 for a 16 oz, or $4 for a 20 oz mocha is more or less reasonable compared to the other places in town, I think that $2.60 for a bottomless cup of ordinary coffee is a bit high compared to other places. If you want to stop in, the Dancing Mule has free public wifi, with no password required (unlike Tech Snak right across Glenstone). It also has a drive-up window, so you do not have to leave your car if you are travelling South Glenstone and in the mood for good coffee. And for those who use social networking, the Dancing Mule has a Twitter account at @dancingmule, and Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Springfield-MO/Dancing-Mule-Coffee-Company/79573042736 As it happens, this coffeeshop is in the same stripmall as Metro Housing Finders, where I pay my rent. Ever since Rendezvous closed I've been looking for a new coffee joint. Sure I go to Hebrews and I like it, but sometimes it seems like all of Springfield is there and it takes forever to get your order. Lately, I have grown attached to the Dancing Mule. The coffee is great (PB Fandago Frappe is to die for) and the service has always been friendly. The fact that they have a drive-thru is wonderful due to time constraints and only endears them a little more to me. I have yet to try any of the food items, but it's only a matter of time. Come for the coffee and great atmosphere and if you're up for it...there's a tattoo parlor next door. Or you could just grab one of DM's stick on's. read more

I've been back a few times and the coffee remains amazing, but the internet/wireless router remains unusable (I assumed this was a temporarily problem on past visits). If you're hoping to check emails or browse the web from here, look elsewhere. Comparable to a 56k dialup speed. I rarely use Yelp, but felt obligated to write a review for this place after my fourth visit. Top notch coffee, beautiful decor, friendly staff. This place should be a role model for aspiring coffee shops. One of the top three coffee shops in Missouri. Qualification for that statement: I spend 2 weeks a month in KC, 1 week in St. Louis, and 1 week in Springfield, and visit 1 to 2 coffee shops a day. read more

They were just OK. I ordered an iced chai tea latte and the bottom of it was filled with powder as they had not mixed it properly. I mentioned it to the barista and how the powder chunks are going through my straw and she said oh that's weird. It was very hard to mix it myself with the short spoons they had at the sugar bar. I've been to the Dancing Mule a number of times and have never been disappointed. Randy and the team know coffee. They serve PT's coffee and sometimes sell coffee from other pastries as well. Espresso, regular brew and pour-overs (my favorite) are available. They also have sandwiches, pastries, etc. for sale...and various coffee-related items (chemex, clever, etc.). It's in a part of town with no other good shops and I like that. They also have a drive-through. One of the best things about Dancing Mule...they're Johnny Cash fans, and I like that a lot. read more

Here's my Dancing Mule Story. All true. One day I just needed to run away from home. For just an hour. Needed a break. About two weeks ago. Middle of May. I didn't want to talk to, or see, anybody, except a barista. Could not step foot inside any relaxing little coffee house and chill out. I needed Alone Time. So I meandered around town, wondering where to get coffee. Saw the Dancing Mule Coffee sign. "Oh, yeah," I remembered. "Lloyd loves that place. Plus it has a drive-thru." Okay, Lloyd is not really not his name. But there is this guy who is crazy about Dancing Mule Coffee and left a half-full cup at my house one time. Which I swigged. Now I know why Lloyd likes it so much. At Dancing Mule's window, I ordered a coffee with some regular milk and requested "some sugar." This girl at the window got it PERFECT. It's like the staff knew how much sugar was not too much. Just the right amount of milk, too. And the flavor of coffee was just ... pristine? This is a great spot for both working and talking with friends. It's small, which is really the only downside, but I think the drive thru keeps it cleared out pretty well.
