After a great day at the racetrack this last Sunday (8/12), our party of five headed over to Wild Note Cafe where we had made reservations and reviewed their menu a few weeks earlier. Most of us had already decided what we wanted for dinner and upon arrival, we were given a different menu that did not feature the choices we had our hearts set on. No ahi. No wasabi mashed potatoes. Not only was the server flippant and unwelcoming, but also completely unapologetic for the menu gaffe. He made no alternative recommendations from the menu either. We were all left with the impression that he simply wanted to close up and go home. He got his wish and we will certainly not be back to the Wild Note on our next trip to Del Mar. read more

Thank you Yelpers! We had a couple of choices in this designer district of Solana Beach. We came here for lunch after shopping in the area. The menu was intriguing and wine list had a good selection. We sat outside..and it was an unusually warm day. The hostess was really attentive, very friendly and gave us some great suggestions on our food choices. I will NEVER eat here again. This place is the WORST. I have never been treated so rudely as WIld Note. My friend was on crutches and I had just had surgery, the "host" was walking in behind us, and as we were obviously struggling with the door, it never occured to him to help us. I think he wanted us to open the door for him. We came in at 5 and were told if we wanted to sit inside, instead of OUTSIDE IN THE WINTER, we had better be out of there by 6. Can you imagine? If we weren't both struggling with walking and desperate just to get out of the house, I would have left in a second. As it is , I will NEVER go back. So at 545, they came with the check asking us to hurry and leave. If you don't mind rudeness, still, the food is not good. There are too many places that are good at this price to waste your time here. You might think it is just my irritation at being treated so poorly, especially since I am a repeat customer (?) but no. They have a decent Lobster Chowder, but I promise you nothing else is worth eating. Take a pass. Frequent a place that deserves your business, acts like it matters to them, and at the very least has decent food. NOT HERE. read more

All I like here is the lobster dumplings in a port wine sauce. The first time I tried it, I would've given this place 4 stars... It was seriously 4 little pieces of heaven (for 9 freaking dollars!). Deliciousness. The second time I came, it was a little too sweet and the sauce was on the buttery side which turned me off slightly. But it has its ups and down. Props to the herbed bread. read more

I have eaten here twice now and it's pretty good. Not many veggie options, so it could use some improvement in that department (particularly on the dinner menu). The service was good, if a little stiff. I enjoyed the green salad both visits and also tried the veggie burger and the tofu stir fry. The veggie burger was average and the stir fry was surprisingly good. For two of us (sans alcohol) it ran about $50. It is quite loud inside and even louder on the 'patio', so head's up there! I went with a group of 8 and we all enjoyed it and enjoyed a wide variety of apps, salads, entrees, and desserts. Apps I liked were made-to-order guacamole (who doesn't love that?!) and calamari. I had the dijon salmon entree and thought it was really good. The piece of salmon was smaller than I expected but they really load up the broccolini. The warm chocolate and banana cake for dessert wasn't as good as I expected but still tasty. We sat outside on the patio and really enjoyed the setting. Initially they set up a table for us inside but we thought it seemed a little stuffy and they quickly accommodated our request to sit on the patio. Overall we enjoyed it and will be back. read more

The food is pretty good. I've been 3 times for lunch and enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. I don't think I would come for dinner for 2 reasons; 1) the dinner menu is extremely similar to the lunch menu, only more expensive. 2) This place is attached to the Belly Up Tavern so it is probably really loud and my guess is that parking would suck too. read more

If you want to get a seat for a show at the Belly Up without paying for the reserved seats, you can get in first through the inside side door if you make a dinner reservation here. Food is so-so. Just beware that this doesn't guarantee you a seat. Depending on the show, we've found that people start lining up early from inside the restaurant too. read more

We can ok a drive and found this little cafe. It is located in the design district with inside and street side seating. I had the lobster and shrimp chowder. It was amazing. Decent sized portion full of meat. It was silky rich and delicious. My wife tried it and wouldn't give it back. I had the ahi tuna poki. It was very good with fresh fish and fresh avocado with freshly made wonton chips. My wife had the ahi sliders with truffle fries they we extremely good, fresh and flavorful. The beer was cold and the service was great. Can't wait to go back and try other things. read more

This is the best food on the street bar none. The meals are proportioned just right and you can tell that they've spent a lot of time perfecting their menu. I LOOOVE the Dijon Crusted Salmon. I found the service and food to be really good. I had the Turkey Jalapeno Sliders with the Truffle Fries which you cannot go wrong ordering. The jalapenos are puree with cilantro which made for an interesting mix. I recommend if you are like many folks who do not care for cilantro to ask that they not put the puree. I also tried the Brie Burger which is a true winner as stated in previous reviews. The burger melts in your mouth! I will definitely check Wild Note again not only for its food and service but the ambiance as well. I have been meaning to write this review for over a year now. I was going to this place a couple of times a month. I decided to try the lobster dumplings in plum sauce. That was a mistake. 10 days sick with food poisoning. I dined there the day before Thanksgiving and had a full house the next day. First of all I want to say that our waitress Sarah was so cute and SO happy! She made me a very stiff drink which was tasty. The guacamole was to die for and the salsa fresca around the edge of the plate was AWESOME! For my dinner I got the Ahi Tower which was clean and fresh and really delicious. My husband got the Brie Burger which was huge and excellent. The mushrooms and the sauce were perfectly sauteed and the Brie was not overwhelming. It was great and we will go back! read more

Came by for a pre-game bite and hydration, and I'd go back as a standalone visit. Atmosphere - It is small but comfortable. Adjacent to the Belly Up so it made getting in to the show easy. We sat at the bar and it was easy for us to fit in the full bar. Service - Outstanding. They were packed just before the concert and move the orders well. Very pleasant. Food - We ate light but it was good. The guacamole / chips was fresh and seasoned well. The ahi poke/avocado was outstanding and it went well with the fried won ton chips. I'd go back for the Ahi dish. I'd recommend making a reservation if you're going pre-concert. We lucked out to grab the last two seats at the bar. read more

We went early, 6pm, and ate outdoors. We have rarely enjoyed a meal as much. My filet was perfectly cooked and my wife's crab cakes equally so. Because there were few customers at that time the waiter could give good but unobtrusive service. The wine selection is very good. All in all, an excellent choice. Wanting to try some place in Solana Beach for some reason, I did a bit of Googling and found that this place was rated quite decent. I checked out their website (www.bellyupcantina.com) and saw that they had a variety of good lunch dishes for very reasonable prices. I ordered the Seared Ahi Sliders, which came with a side of Truffle Fries (yummmm!!!). I only got 2 sliders but by the time I was finished, I found that it was surprisingly very filling! We sampled their ahi taco & it was delish! the shell is fried wonton skins which was nice & crispy, filled w/ fresh ahi, some slaw & a wasabi topping that looks like guacamole but it's not, it packs a little punch!
