So, seeing the updated decor and menu, had me thinking that the new owners are really serious about providing a fine dining experience to Kueka Lake. Evidently NOT. We went on a Tuesday at 6PM for our Anniversary and despite that being in our reservation notes twice, it was never acknowledged. Our water tender filled our glasses after 15 minutes of sitting and waiting with no greeting after the hostess stand. We asked her what the soup of the day was and she didn't know. Our server Riley B. Had no personality or personal skills. She did not offer any suggestions on drinks, meals, appetizers, etc. also failed to acknowledge our anniversary. She did inform us that they were out of the short rib. We ordered the crab fritters, mussels, and French onion soup for appetizers. 35 minutes for appetizers to arrive and the mussels were ice cold, shells were all cracked. It was terrible, ate about 2 each and sent them back. Crab fritters were ok, still undercooked in the middle, but we were so hungry we ate those. Onion soup came out about 10 minutes after and that was the ONLY item of quality. Our entrees were the Steak Frites and Alfredo pasta with chicken. Those arrived about 1 1/2 hours after we were seated. Service was terribly slow all night, as well as zero follow up, despite the restaurant being about a quarter full. Entrees did arrive hot, so that was appreciated. Pasta dish was not an Alfredo, more of light tomato pepper cream sauce. Steak was prepared as ordered, however about halfway through eating, I enjoyed a piece of jagged plastic that poked my mouth. That was the final straw. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the foreign object. Saved you a lawsuit, you're welcome! The new decorations were made less enjoyable by the constant onslaught of flies in the dining room, which we discovered was caused by your staff keeping the door to the deck wide open. The irony is there was no patrons on the deck, so that was an unnecessary waste of AC and failed sanitation practice. Our view of the lake would have also been better if you can manage to clean the windows once in awhile. Of course I was prepared to address all of these issues with the manager, but after asking for the manager and two servers searching for about 10 minutes, we were informed he went home for the day and the person in charge was the chef. In summary, the Main Deck is a pig in a pretty dress. Food is inconsistent, mediocre at best, service and training of the staff is lacking and poor. Standards in the back of the house are also missing, as evidenced by cold appetizers, slow arrival times, foreign objects in the food, and out of stock items. Would enjoy the owner contacting me, but I won't hold my breath. Do not waste your time or money at this establishment!

When I requested an online reservation I received a prompt and friendly callback - and when we arrived the next night, they had a highchair set up and waiting for us. The cocktails were excellent. I don't mind paying almost city prices when drinks are thoughtfully crafted, balanced, and unique - these absolutely delivered. Our server was wonderful. We asked whether the chef could prepare something for the baby and she quickly returned with several options. Since it was his first birthday, we let him splurge and ordered a filet with risotto. The kitchen sent it out right away, which helped avoid an imminent pre-bedtime meltdown. Dad tax applied--the baby's dinner was delicious! The bartender even sent over a small mocktail for him to try - a thoughtful touch. Every entrée at the table was phenomenal and everyone cleaned their plates. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were generous, and the quality was evident throughout the meal. Great food paired with outstanding service made it easy to justify the price, which again, was not extraordinarily high, all things considered. I highly recommend 18th Amendment if you're looking for a dining experience that's a step above the ordinary.

Great bar, with lots of friendly people...and one very unfriendly local. If a stout man with a leather hat repeatedly approaches you with drunken, unintelligible insults, prepare yourself. He's trying to start a fight, or at least get you to leave. I'm not sure how or why the Tavern Restaurant allows this guy to intimidate customers, and act like the bar is his territory and responsibility to clear it of tourists. The Tavern is my favorite place to go in Penn Yan whether it's going out for drinks or getting a bite to eat. The food is always spot on. The appetizer we split (mussels in a slightly spicy broth with focaccia on the side) was excellent. Easily the highlight of our meal, would order it again in a heartbeat. The downside, unfortunately, is that the main part of our meal was nothing to write home about. I'd found this spot online and booked a table for two specifically to really "wow" my wife and enjoy an excellent meal together, and was really looking forward to some good food after reading all the stellar reviews here on Yelp. It certainly has high-end prices for the FLX (spent over $250 for dinner for two, without a dessert or more than a glass of wine each), which in general I'm happy to pay - if the quality is there, that is. But our entrees were just unimpressive, and actually slow to arrive. Took them a solid 40-45 minutes to bring out our mains afterwe finished the appetizers, but worse was the fact that both dishes (rack of lamb for myself, and short rib gnocchi for her) were simply bland. Best part of my dish were the mashed potatoes honestly - the lamb itself was unseasoned, and the sauce was watery. My wife's gnocchi weren't terrible, but the sauce had an odd, almost burnt aftertaste that neither of us cared for. For a regular restaurant, with more regular prices and reviews, we wouldn't have minded honestly - but because this place is kinda marketed as one of the better restaurants in Geneva, and priced as such, having a bit of a mediocre meal left us fairly disappointed. Again, great service and fun spot just to be in, and _some_ of the items like the appetizers are pretty tasty (I'd happily come back for another taste of their mussels and focaccia). But we likely won't be coming back anytime soon, particularly as we live out of town. Hope it was just a fluke and that they bounce back.

" he was a regular, , so I guess he knew. I did. The "weck", is a kummelweck roll, invented by a German baker who lived in Buffalo. It has salt and caraway seeds on top. They play extremely well together. The roll was delicious, and the very generous portion of roast beef was fantastic. And the horseradish, it was fresh, and I didn't even have a cold, but it's still cleared my sinuses... I loved it. The price was extremely reasonable. If I was up in the area again, I would stop here in a heartbeat. Thanks!!

But yeah aside from the terrific service, the main reason we keep coming back is the quality of the dishes they consistently put out there. This trip we got to try the "Friendship Fries" as a moderately spicy, super flavorful appetizer, and then we split a whole branzino in a delicious horseradish sauce. And because we heard great things about their burgers, we came back just now for another dinner and split one of those too - predictably great, barely any condiments needed really. Juicy, well-cooked and tasty as heck. They have a super extensive wine selection from FLX, France, Italy and all across the U.S., but we tend to order from their cocktail menu - just tried the "Ship of Theseus" today. Overall, it's a great spot for dinner with friends or family, especially if you're in the area and looking for a pleasant dining experience.
