Nice place for a quick dinner on a recent Sunday night. More a bar that serves food than a restaurant that serves drinks, but in this case the difference is pretty irrelevant. Good tap beers. Kitchen is good. Don't miss the Snecken burger. Salads are good, sandwiches are good. Service is cordial and fairly prompt. Didn't encounter any of the loud or raucous behavior that others have noted. We were looking for a good spot to have some good old pub food in Penn Yan. A local recommended the Tavern Restaurant. Really cool little local bar/restaurant feel that was nice and clean. Great selection of drinks. Our server was excellent (she was one of 2 people serving, but she did a great job of keeping everything moving nicely) I had a burger that was amazing. Had onion rings, bacon, and hot sauce (wouldn't have thought of putting that on a burger, but it was great). I forgot the name of the burger, but it was amazing. My former executive team met here for lunch a couple of days ago. I had been by this place many times, but never stopped. I'm glad I did. Our server was very attentive. The food was even better than I had expected. Rather dark when you first go in from the sunshine, so it took a few minutes for my eyes to adjust. Surprisingly clean. Stopped in for my bestie's birthday while we're up here for the weekend! Generally was a nice time, lots of people, definitely a popular area. One of the employees, Jordan, was so sweet and welcoming to our entire party. He made our whole night awesome. Towards the end of the night, he ended up making me something to eat since I was the DD and hadn't eaten yet. The bartenders were not happy about this as the kitchen had closed earlier. They were very open about letting us know we were not welcome and to get out. Even though we didn't order any food, we were offered 4 mozzarella sticks... Biggest pro: They let you work the TV remotes, which I appreciate. We were able to switch it to the correct hockey game without having to ask (Go Islanders! We're going all the way, JMo!) Biggest con: The pool table was missing the 13-ball, so we took out a solid and played with two less. Overall: I think this a solid 4-star bar. We loved this place.. we just happened to stumble upon it. And we usually knew that bar food was good so we thought we would give it a try. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic very attentive and went way out of her way to make my vegan fiance the perfect wrap. It even looked delicious to me...lol I had the blue cheese burger with bacon and chips and I got to tell you it was one of the best bacon blue cheese burgers I've ever had and tons of bacon and chips the roll was delicious. What a fun bar/restaurant! And such a find! Didn't know it was anything other than a small local bar but a waitress at a neighboring favorite diner recommended the tavern highly for their dinners and service. So we have now been twice and it was great both times! First time sat at the bar and had a delicious steak salad and I must say the fountain Pepsi was totally perfect! (Many many places don't pay close enough attention to getting that mix right and when it's not right it's entirely wrong! Being a Pepsi snob I appreciate that....!). Next time went with another couple and got the burger wrap with fries (as recommended by our friendly waitress) and it was delicious. Can't wait to get back. Not a bad small town bar and grill. This place is what small town bars are all about. Definite charm of an old building with a neon sign outside, walk in and find an old wood bar, weathered original floors and some booths to grab a bite to eat. As is expected with any small town bar, you need a couple local day drinkers...check! Our waitress was friendly and quick with our order.
