What a terrific dinner I had with my wife at The 18th Amendment last night. After doing some research we decided on this restaurant. Oh boy am I so glad we chose this place. From the moment we walked in, throughout the dinner we were treated very well. Our server Dave or "Davio", was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu from the cocktails, the food selections and dessert. The smoked Backyard BBQ old fashioned with a mini hotdog and dill pickle was interestingly delicious. The brown butter bourbon manhattan was quite pleasantly different. The Nikolata Lebanese falafel and colossal Delmarva crab cocktail were great starters. But the Moroccan beef stew was just bursting with flavors and the filet mignon was grilled to a perfect medium rare. What a great experience it was to eat at this restaurant. Who would have thought one would find such Michelin style cuisine in a small town like Penn Yan NY. I just wish it was closer to home on Long Island.

I'm super excited to update this review. Since my initial review, 18th Amendment has been taken over by Rose & Chet from Burnt Rose Wine Bar located just a few steps away. They've created completely new food and cocktail programs that are absolutely marvelous and a wonderful edition to the Penn Yan culinary scene. We started off with a sampling of beautifully fried chicken in a spicy cream sauce, which was an excellent surprise to begin with. We then moved onto the duck sausage and crispy cremini. My wife and I absolutely love duck and I'm so glad that the natural flavor of the duck meat wasn't overpowered by the fennel and spice mixture, but rather, they worked harmoniously to amplify the other's flavors. Also, I have to give props for the honey roasted green beans, they were fantastic. The cremini were mind blowing and my new favorite way to eat mushrooms. You can't go wrong with frying goat cheese and garlic stuffed mushrooms, but the tomato coulis really made it next level. This light, thin tomato sauce added a nice freshness and flavor complexity, without making the dish too heavy for an appetizer. I highly recommend all of these dishes. For our mains entrées, I had the Water, which (if I remember correctly) was a salmon and my wife had the Ranch as a rare strip steak. My salmon was expertly cooked and seasoned, but what I really want to point out is this creamed corn type accompaniment and the fresh cherry tomatoes. This creamed corn was so tasty and never would I have thought to serve a great salmon over it, but it worked so outstandingly well and in combination with the super fresh and perfectly ripened cherry tomatoes, every bite was a sublime experience. To add onto this, my wife absolutely loved her steak and it was cooked perfectly rare for her, which is often something she has trouble finding in the FLX area. It's usually overcooked to medium rare, but this was excellent for her. It pains me to say, but I can't remember what we had for cocktails, but I do know that we enjoyed each one that we tried. Really, every single thing we tried was fantastic and this is definitely one of my top choices if you're visiting the area and looking for a more intimate and upscale option. This is surely a step in the right direction for our area's culinary renaissance.

A huge pleasure! Delicious cocktails and transcendent food in a welcoming space with expert staff.

Awesome local rye whiskey only found at 18th Amendment.

Seeing 5 stars I was skeptical, but this is the best restaurant I have been to in a while. What a find. The bartender was amazing, curating his own drink specials and just having an entertaining time with us at the bar. The vibe was fun, local and interesting. The food fantastic, fresh and interesting. Great wine selection, not large, but very good. I cannot say enough. Keep the good time rolling!

The Bourbon blend she has had created for Outlet 111makes for a standout cocktail, but there is so much more. While the menu is limited, it is uniformly solid in quality. Over the course of three evening while visiting the area, we tried everything on the menu. The sliders were outstanding, as were the flatbreads. Not too hungry? We each had a drink and I believe we split steamed dumplings and all was good on that trip. In fact, we were elated to find the place because it had a good vibe and seemed nice and we decided we would return in nicer weather. We returned the last weekend of May and stayed inside this visit also. The place was empty when we arrived. We sat against the glass wall facing the water. My wife noticed that a bunch of tables were dirty as were the windows. They are very large windows to enjoy the waterway but when mixed with the dirty tables, it causes one to wonder. We ordered drinks and food. The drinks were excellent. I ordered the pork dumplings and empenadas and my wife got the special which was a smoked turkey hoagey. The dumplings were excellent once again. The empenadas were tasty but seriously light on filling. And her turkey sandwich was terrible. She asked for it deconstructed because she didnt want the hoagy roll. She ate most of the insides of it but couldnt get through the turkey. I generally serve as her garbage disposal and if she doesnt finish something, she pawns it off on me. I can eat just about anything but this was not chewable. I am not sure what to call it. It tasted delicious, as smoked turkey does, but the gristle/ fat or whatever it was, couldnt get chewed enough to even try to swallow it. It had to be a 1 to 1.5 oz clump of unchewable stuff (for lack of a proper term). So needless to say, we wont be back. Bottom line, drinks were excellent, some food was good, some borderline worth the cost and some terrible. To us, it was a waste of $100+ with tip

Of course, the Finger Lakes are KNOWN for wine so we're just thinking we're making reservations for a wine bar (with "speakeasy" vibes). Which that would've been totally cool with us. After continuous back and forth, changing our reservations 50 million times, adding and taking people out, we finally made it to Vinifera on a Friday night and were super apologetic since we had to make yet another change. The staff was absolutely incredible and accommodating, they made sure our party of 10 would be in the same room/table. The only "downfall" was that we'd have to share the room with another small party. Which was absolutely not a problem and we ended up being BFF'S with them by the end of the night. We met the owner Jim - the most incredible human - and he took us down to the speakeasy (which passes right through a super secretive door in the back of the main room upstairs). Side note - the main room upstairs is a vibe on it's own btw and we would've been absolutely fine and happy there. It's an actual wine store and you can purchase all kind of local wines. Be sure to ask and get all the recommendations you want. Not only did we get to enjoy an incredible time but we got a super cool VIP experience and learned the story and so much history about this place, the concept, the origin and what sparked the idea of creating it. That itself, was a treat. On to the actual speakeasy experience. When you go downstairs (through that fun super cool super secretive door) - you're instantly transported to another era, another time. It's dark, it's velvety, chandeliers, spiderwebs (the aesthetic kind, idk if there were actually any but it fit the vibe in my head), Leonardo Da Vinci, Mona Lisa, candles, curtains. There are two super cool rooms, one to the right (which is where our large party sat at) and one to the left - totally recommended for smaller groups, it's cozy, it's chill, you can interact and share with other guests too. Just by this, I'm wowed. As if this wasn't enough, the drinks were absolutely incredible. I ended up ordering some kind of a smoked drink and they happily substituted the regular old fashioned for mezcal. What a dream. Everyone was happy with their drink orders, some ordered some off the menu things and they happily made them - even though they technically only serve what's on the menu. Wine flights are also available if you're in the wine vibe. Bottom line: we loved this place SO much, we came back 2 night's later for our last night. We sat in the other room and absolutely loved and enjoyed it. I had a lavender drink and it was delish. This place is a GEM and you should absolutely check it out and support it if you're in the area. If you're not, well now you have a place I know you'll love to go to!

As we turned the corner we saw a sign in front of A.T. Walley's for $5 burger and chips or 2 Hoffman Hots with chips. Well, the price was right! The guy was outside on the sidewalk grilling them and it smelled really good. So even though I was in the mood for wings, we decided to give the food here a try. We went in and got a table with no problem. Waitress said that along with the regular Wednesday night specials they also had $4 Beef on Weck for $4. We were really hungry so we ordered 2 Beef on Weck sandwiches and the hot dog special. It was amazing! The beef and au jus was fabulous! They each came with kettle chips and pickles. Yum!!!! And who does not love a Hoffman Hot, right?! Then we saw that they had 11 menu items for just $5 on Thursday nights from 4-10 pm. We had to be downtown again the next night so we went back! I got the grilled chicken Caesar Salad and he got the NYS Fair beef and Lamb Gyro. Once again, full portions for only $5! What a find!! We had always just gone there for drinks and music prior to this. They have a great bar selection and have $3 drinks on Monday nights....including their signature cocktails! We came as a larger group and they were nice enough for us to order from the breakfast menu as they switched over the lunch menu at 11:30am. Our table enjoyed the food but all agreed it wasn't worth the price point. I tried the chocolate croissant with homemade butter and maple bacon jam along with the Canadian bacon Benedict. The chocolate croissant was nice with the maple bacon jam but definitely not worth the price point of $12. The croissant was quite smaller, like the chocolate croissants you can get from Costco or Starbucks. The Canadian bacon eggs Benedict however was delicious and I really enjoyed it! I just am not sure again it was worth the high price point. However I definitely felt the service was missing. As we were the only ones in the dining area, I felt the service was missing the mark. The server saw we were carrying a baby in the restaurant but didn't ask if we wanted a high chair. My mother-in-law spied it in the corner and then we had to ask for it and we proceeded to set it up at the table. As I was with 2 young kids, I ordered some simple items before the main course like their chocolate croissant and fruit cup. I assumed the server would ask if we wanted those ahead of time but that didn't happen. He also had forgotten my son's drink order and which my son actually had to ask him after some time "where's my juice?" My older son had ordered the s'mores waffles and it looked good when it was delivered but as I cut some of it for me to try later on, I soon realized the batter was uncooked in the middle of most of them. I was thoroughly disappointed he had eaten some of it before I discovered it was uncooked. The server throughly apologized and they remade the order which in the end, we ended up taking home with us. They also didn't take the order off the check for us which normally that would happen. For such a classy restaurant, we would think they would know how to make waffles and for more top-notch service. I think next time we will just enjoy the nice views and choose to eat somewhere else when we are in the area.
