18th Amendment was a fantastic choice for a memorable dinner while visiting the area with family…read more Our group included three senior citizens, a baby, and three adults, and we were looking for a legitimate dining experience - it is vacation, after all! I had walked past 18th Amendment earlier in the week and thought it looked worth checking out - just peering in the window, it had a great atmosphere and inviting vibe. When I requested an online reservation I received a prompt and friendly callback - and when we arrived the next night, they had a highchair set up and waiting for us. The cocktails were excellent. I don't mind paying almost city prices when drinks are thoughtfully crafted, balanced, and unique - these absolutely delivered. Our server was wonderful. We asked whether the chef could prepare something for the baby and she quickly returned with several options. Since it was his first birthday, we let him splurge and ordered a filet with risotto. The kitchen sent it out right away, which helped avoid an imminent pre-bedtime meltdown. Dad tax applied--the baby's dinner was delicious! The bartender even sent over a small mocktail for him to try - a thoughtful touch. Every entrée at the table was phenomenal and everyone cleaned their plates. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were generous, and the quality was evident throughout the meal. Great food paired with outstanding service made it easy to justify the price, which again, was not extraordinarily high, all things considered. I highly recommend 18th Amendment if you're looking for a dining experience that's a step above the ordinary.

TL/DR: My friends and I made reservations here for a celebratory dinner, but we wouldn't recommend…read morethis place for anything other than grabbing a drink. Pros: -The cocktails were lovely, very inventive, and delicious. Loved that they used fresh local strawberries! -The appetizers were also creative and tasty. We got the chef eggs and the cremini mushrooms. However for the price the apps were tiny -My entree (the Pasture - souvlaki with Israeli couscous and cucumber salad) was delicious, well seasoned and balanced Cons: -Service was shockingly slow. We had a 7:30 reservation and didn't get our entrees until 9pm. For almost every element we ordered (bread service, apps, entrees) we had to follow up with the waitress to see what the ETA would be. She apologized several times, but a manager got defensive and said that there was only one chef. It was a Saturday night and there were only 2 other small tables in the place, and maybe 3 people at the bar, so no clear reason why everything was so slow. At these prices, especially in Penn Yan, you would expect better service. -Most of our party ordered the Bucher. I understand it can be tricky to plate 5 burgers at once, but for this price, you'd expect the burgers to not come out soggy on the bottom. With the fried egg, gravy, and melted cheese the burgers only had one texture (mushy) and a one-note, overly rich flavor. Really needs a fresh or acidic element to add textural contrast and cut through the fat. The fries lacked seasoning, we needed to add more salt. -There was a surprise $15 credit card charge, which was not posted on their website or menus. We only saw it when it appeared on the final bill. While credit card surcharges aren't unheard of, in NY state they need to be posted ahead of time. Legality aside, hitting customers with a surprise charge at an upscale place like this is honestly tacky.

The most incredible (and only) speakeasy in the Finger Lakes…read more After hours of driving, we knew we needed a cool spot to go to at night for some delicious wine. Of course, the Finger Lakes are KNOWN for wine so we're just thinking we're making reservations for a wine bar (with "speakeasy" vibes). Which that would've been totally cool with us. After continuous back and forth, changing our reservations 50 million times, adding and taking people out, we finally made it to Vinifera on a Friday night and were super apologetic since we had to make yet another change. The staff was absolutely incredible and accommodating, they made sure our party of 10 would be in the same room/table. The only "downfall" was that we'd have to share the room with another small party. Which was absolutely not a problem and we ended up being BFF'S with them by the end of the night. We met the owner Jim - the most incredible human - and he took us down to the speakeasy (which passes right through a super secretive door in the back of the main room upstairs). Side note - the main room upstairs is a vibe on it's own btw and we would've been absolutely fine and happy there. It's an actual wine store and you can purchase all kind of local wines. Be sure to ask and get all the recommendations you want. Not only did we get to enjoy an incredible time but we got a super cool VIP experience and learned the story and so much history about this place, the concept, the origin and what sparked the idea of creating it. That itself, was a treat. On to the actual speakeasy experience. When you go downstairs (through that fun super cool super secretive door) - you're instantly transported to another era, another time. It's dark, it's velvety, chandeliers, spiderwebs (the aesthetic kind, idk if there were actually any but it fit the vibe in my head), Leonardo Da Vinci, Mona Lisa, candles, curtains. There are two super cool rooms, one to the right (which is where our large party sat at) and one to the left - totally recommended for smaller groups, it's cozy, it's chill, you can interact and share with other guests too. Just by this, I'm wowed. As if this wasn't enough, the drinks were absolutely incredible. I ended up ordering some kind of a smoked drink and they happily substituted the regular old fashioned for mezcal. What a dream. Everyone was happy with their drink orders, some ordered some off the menu things and they happily made them - even though they technically only serve what's on the menu. Wine flights are also available if you're in the wine vibe. Bottom line: we loved this place SO much, we came back 2 night's later for our last night. We sat in the other room and absolutely loved and enjoyed it. I had a lavender drink and it was delish. This place is a GEM and you should absolutely check it out and support it if you're in the area. If you're not, well now you have a place I know you'll love to go to!

As we turned the corner we saw a sign in front of A.T. Walley's for $5 burger and chips or 2 Hoffman Hots with chips. Well, the price was right! The guy was outside on the sidewalk grilling them and it smelled really good. So even though I was in the mood for wings, we decided to give the food here a try. We went in and got a table with no problem. Waitress said that along with the regular Wednesday night specials they also had $4 Beef on Weck for $4. We were really hungry so we ordered 2 Beef on Weck sandwiches and the hot dog special. It was amazing! The beef and au jus was fabulous! They each came with kettle chips and pickles. Yum!!!! And who does not love a Hoffman Hot, right?! Then we saw that they had 11 menu items for just $5 on Thursday nights from 4-10 pm. We had to be downtown again the next night so we went back! I got the grilled chicken Caesar Salad and he got the NYS Fair beef and Lamb Gyro. Once again, full portions for only $5! What a find!! We had always just gone there for drinks and music prior to this. They have a great bar selection and have $3 drinks on Monday nights....including their signature cocktails! It is a great place to go, have a drink, hang out with friends, listen to music on occasion and now I will be stopping in to check out more on their menu as well!

Steven and Megan are a proper fun duo behind the bar but their skills really stand out. My only negative is HOW EXPENSIVE the drinks are. We came as a larger group and they were nice enough for us to order from the breakfast menu as they switched over the lunch menu at 11:30am. Our table enjoyed the food but all agreed it wasn't worth the price point. I tried the chocolate croissant with homemade butter and maple bacon jam along with the Canadian bacon Benedict. The chocolate croissant was nice with the maple bacon jam but definitely not worth the price point of $12. The croissant was quite smaller, like the chocolate croissants you can get from Costco or Starbucks. The Canadian bacon eggs Benedict however was delicious and I really enjoyed it! I just am not sure again it was worth the high price point. However I definitely felt the service was missing. As we were the only ones in the dining area, I felt the service was missing the mark. The server saw we were carrying a baby in the restaurant but didn't ask if we wanted a high chair. My mother-in-law spied it in the corner and then we had to ask for it and we proceeded to set it up at the table. As I was with 2 young kids, I ordered some simple items before the main course like their chocolate croissant and fruit cup. I assumed the server would ask if we wanted those ahead of time but that didn't happen. He also had forgotten my son's drink order and which my son actually had to ask him after some time "where's my juice?" My older son had ordered the s'mores waffles and it looked good when it was delivered but as I cut some of it for me to try later on, I soon realized the batter was uncooked in the middle of most of them. I was thoroughly disappointed he had eaten some of it before I discovered it was uncooked. The server throughly apologized and they remade the order which in the end, we ended up taking home with us. They also didn't take the order off the check for us which normally that would happen. For such a classy restaurant, we would think they would know how to make waffles and for more top-notch service. I think next time we will just enjoy the nice views and choose to eat somewhere else when we are in the area.
