A customer with a Hookah pipe!

Today my daughter searched for some good soul food or BBQ in the Cedar Park area and we found TaterQue! I ordered The Big Jack which included a tub of baked potato, 1/4 lb of chopped brisket, 1/3 smoked sausage and 2 rib bones - This meal is too die for! My daughter ordered a pork chop plate with collard greens and cornbread. The pork chop was crispy, moist and very tasty. The collard greens and cornbread were great also. She ordered Banana pudding for dessert but the pudding did not include bananas, just pudding and cookies. The ambiance of the restaurant was questionable due to very loud music, customers could not hear themselves talk, and there was no air conditioner, only fans on the walls. The customers seemed to be having a great time because it was Sunday, they were enjoining the games on big screen TVs. There is also a patio available for outside dining. RECOMMENDATION : Order your food to go if loud music is bothersome, otherwise dining inside, the food is wonderful!

TaterQue's $1 Wing Wednesday never misses!! Everything is made fresh, so there's a bit of a wait--but when you get it... maaan, 10/10 every time. Laid-back vibes, '90s R&B always playing in the background, and the staff is consistently friendly. Oh yeah, my fave is the hot honey wings.

Feels like home ! Karaoke, music, and a little sauce on your hands I have been to Tater Que pretty often and it never disappoints. This spot of entertaining and laid back . My food is always fresh and seasoned. I got the mild wings today. They were tasty and I was able to get extra sauce on the side with no problem. I've have had the fish too and it was good. On Tuesday, they have taco Tuesday and the tacos are freshly good. The tacos are unique with Tater Que, they use items for tacos that are already on their menu. I love their own spin on the tacos. It can get a bit crowded but it is always a good time. This is also a good place to watch sports because tvs are from wall to wall. When they have a dj, he is so entertaining and interacts with the crowd . Pleaseee try the frozen drinks. All of them are very good Monday- reverse happy hour ($8 brisket nachos) Tuesday - Taco Tuesday (taco specials) Wednesday - wing Wednesday ($1 wings) Check out Tater Que. They will not disappoint!

I met a friend for lunch who I had not seen for months. She chose TaterQue mainly because it was voted one of Americas Best Restaurants by Travel Lens. Quite honestly, I was a bit hyped about dining at TatetQue. It's a vibe with sultry music playing in the background and a funky, cool interior. I was at TaterQue so I am going to have a spud. The seafood spud shrimp, crab and crawfish sounded good with Alfredo sauce on the side. It was not the typical large spud but a lot of small white new potatoes. It was extremely large, flavorful with lots of meat on the top layer. My honey cornbread was divine and I could have had a solo cornbread meal. I sampled my friend's brisket and fried wings. For a non-red meat lover most days, I was not enamored with the brisket. The honey bbq chicken wings, conversely, were the standout...soft crispy with perfect balance of bbq sauce and seasoning. I liked the honey biscuit but it was a bit dry in the center. Service was 24 carat gold southern hospitality. The cashier made me feel like I was visiting family. I wish all servers were like her with a service level of 5+++. I will come back for the corn bread and wings but look forward to trying the oxtails.

Came in right around the time they were opening and was immediately greeted with a friendly face! One thing I can truly appreciate upon walking into an establishment. Took a look at the menu and decided on a few things. Ended up ordering Seafood trio grits , baked beans, fries, boudin egg rolls and we couldn't skip the corn bread and biscuits [you shouldn't either!] The grits were amazing, cooked exactly the way they should have been, flavors were all there. Baked beans are slightly sweet but still savory. I loved every bite! Had pieces of brisket in there if I'm not mistaken. Corn bread and biscuits were AMAZINGGG. Very soft and fluffy I would have ordered 6 of these and take home it I wasn't so full by the time I left . The only thing I didn't really care was the boudin egg rolls. It definitely wasn't as good as all of the other dishes.

These wings are the bomb! Will definitely come here again for their delicious, lump, juicy, and meaty wings (I have not had in a long time!) The tater kegs are a must order too. Perfectly fried chunky mashed potato loaded with cheese and drizzled with sour cream. The Mac&Cheese monster kid refused the $7 Mac&Cheese that had too much 'black pepper'. Although it was a chill setting, It was 2ish and service was slow. Music was definitely my kind of music. My kid was even saying; "They are playing all your songs, mom!" Price wise, check the receipt! I didn't, and feel I was overcharged ($56) for the wings, tater kegs and Mac&Cheese.

Ok we came back and tried the big potato with all the meats, I went into a food coma and we also tried the fried Mac and cheese eggrolls...so good! We use them at my job for catering sometimes as well and the owners are so nice and go above and beyond with service and the food we never have leftovers. I also like their vegan spud it is surprisingly tasty to me!!

Nice well kept establishment luckily when we went there (around 3pm) there was only 1 person sitting down eating. I ordered the big jack consisting of BBQ ribs, sausage and brisket over potatoes with BBQ sauce y'all I had so much food my eyes was definitely bigger than my stomach. My hubby had the street tacos and fries. The food was good, the staff were friendly.

Second time here and it slapped just as hard this go around. The staff is amazing and helpful guiding you through all of their amazing options. Their purple drink (Jag Juice) is outstanding by the way.. We feel welcomed and appreciated when we come here... Will for sure be back. Don't let the prices deter you. I assure you it's worth every penny...

I had a great experience last Sunday here. We came when they were having brunch. There was music playing and the vibes were vibing. You have to order your food at the counter and they will bring it out to you. It took a minute for our food to come out but I think it's because they didn't have much help and it was a good amount of people there. All the food was so delicious. It had me in a food coma afterwards. I will definitely be back for more especially for those honey bbq wings.

I've been here several times and I've always only ordered the boudin egg rolls and the purple alcoholic drink, so rightfully I've never done a review here as I haven't truly eaten any of the entrees. Also, the menu initially didn't really have anything that I really liked. It looks like there might be more items on the menu now because I saw a few things that I wanted to try, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Well.... I tried the food! Boy, oh boy was the Alamo delicious!!! Delicious! All this time I've been sleeping on the food. The baked potato was flavorful and plentiful. I ordered the junior. On Saturdays and Sundays, they have a DJ.

TaterQue - Soul Food & BBQ with Heart in Pflugerville The moment you step into TaterQue in Pflugerville, you feel right at home. The music is pumping, the energy is high, and the smell of smoked meats hits you right away. It's the kind of atmosphere that tells you immediately you're in the right place -- lively, welcoming, and full of flavor. A Feast Worth the Trip We came to feature some of TaterQue's top dishes, and the lineup didn't disappoint: Oxtails & Grits (served Saturdays) Soul Food Platter (weekends only) 10 Wings with seasoned fries Two-3 Brisket on a bun with Fab 5 Mac Boudin Egg Rolls Every plate came with personality, but one dish stood tall as the undisputed star. The Soul Food Platter - A Weekend Showstopper The Soul Food Platter is everything you want in a comfort food spread and more. It comes loaded with oxtails, fried catfish, cornbread, greens, and mac and cheese -- a little bit of everything, and every single bite top-notch. The oxtails were melt-in-your-mouth tender, falling off the bone with deep, soulful flavor. The cornbread, draped in honey butter, was so decadent it felt like eating dessert -- sweet, rich, and unforgettable. The greens were among the best I've had in a decade, flavorful and cooked to perfection. And the mac and cheese? Creamy, indulgent, and exceptional. Put it all together, and this platter alone is worth planning a Saturday trip. Wings That Surprised Us As much as the soul food platter impressed, the wings with seasoned fries still managed to surprise. Perfectly fried with a crisp bite and full-flavored batter, they were an unexpected standout -- proof that even the "simple" items on this menu are given just as much care. Other Favorites The brisket on a bun paired with Fab 5 Mac was classic BBQ comfort, smoky meat balanced beautifully with creamy mac. The boudin egg rolls offered a creative, crave-worthy twist on tradition. And the oxtails & grits on their own? Southern-style richness that you'll want to revisit again and again. The Heart of TaterQue - Bobbie & Bobby What truly sets TaterQue apart is the husband-and-wife team behind it, Bobbie and Bobby. From the moment we walked in, Bobbie (with an ie) greeted us with a hug, radiating warmth and passion. You can feel her love for her restaurant, her staff, and her customers in everything she does. Bobby (with a y) brought his own spark -- funny, personable, and down-to-earth, with a perfectionist streak balanced by a big-picture understanding of life, family, and good food. Sitting down with them felt like sitting down with old friends, and that sense of family pours right into the dining experience. Final Thoughts TaterQue isn't just a restaurant -- it's family. It's down-south, big-city flavor served up in a mom-and-pop setting that makes the experience a little different, a little better. You can feel the love in the hospitality, and you can taste the love in every bite. If you're craving soul food that feels like home, or BBQ that carries a story, TaterQue is the trip you need to make.

John passed away in early 2024, while his family took over the shop in Pflugerville. Now just about a decade after opening shop, Brotherton's is closing down at the end of August. Following John's passing, they've hit a few road bumps from the rising cost of beef that's been plaguing Texas BBQ. Earlier in January they posted on social media how they were struggling, and again last spring. At the start of August, the Brotherton's family announced Brotherton's Black Iron BBQ in Pflugerville was shuttering for good at the end of August. Knowing this would be the last time I would be able to try it, my buddy and I took an extended lunch break on a Friday to give it a shot. Upon arrival at just around 11:50, we noticed that the parking lot was packed with multiple food trucks and other businesses filling the shopping center. We got lucky with a parking spot far away as we marched inside to wait in line. On the door lay plenty of stickers from different BBQ joints from Texas and beyond, with even some coming from overseas. The line moved slowly but surely, and as we got to the front we got our three-meat plate with a bonus slice of turkey for good measure. We ended up getting to Brotherton's at the perfect time because we got the final slices of brisket on that glorious Friday. I'll share my thoughts on everything we tried: Brisket: Though it looked like a great cut that was nicely seasoned, it was pretty fine overall. Nothing remarkable about their brisket while still very fatty. Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage: Juicy, cheesy, not really too spicy on the jalapeño side of things, but that might just be from the mildness of jalapeños these days. Pork Ribs: These suckers looked incredible from the pictures I saw online and on social media, but they were kinda disappointing based on how incredible they looked visually. They were good, just not as epic as I was hoping. Turkey: Turkey is underrated in the BBQ scene, and this is no exception. A nice cut of meat! Cornbread Casserole: I could've eaten the whole thing myself, so it was a shame that we were sharing. Green Chili Mac and Cheese: I'll repeat myself. I could've eaten the whole thing myself, so it was a shame that we were sharing. As a whole, I'm very glad I gave them a shot before I would never be able to again. That's the hardest part about Texas barbecue. The best places and the historic spots can drop in a moment's notice when hardships hit or the meat prices skyrocket. Sadly, I can tell that they're already at the end of their rope with certain menu options like the loaded nachos and baked potatoes, which always seem like the sign of the end. And with how the food was simply just decent overall, it's hard to justify the rising prices. I see reviews all over saying their quality has fallen off year after year following JMFB's passing, and it makes sense: he was the heart and the soul of the business. When that vaporizes overnight, it's only a matter of time. I don't wish for the downfall of any spot, but I understand that it's bound to happen to certain ones. RIYL: Paying respects to one of the greats in Texas BBQ

When I saw it, I was SO excited. It was old, rickety, paint pealing and should've been condemned. I loved it! Exactly what I'd expect for good barbecue. Ordered two sliced brisket plates and a chopped brisket sandwich plate. Got the food to-go and headed to the house. I was SO disappointed with just about everything. MIL thought the sandwich was good, but she didn't get her coleslaw side. Wife's meat was good, but her coleslaw (and mine) wasn't goof. Very vinegary and not creamy at all like I'm used to for coleslaw. My brisket, however was horrible. It was more fat than meat and I couldn't eat it it was so fatty. In addition to the coleslaw, the green beans I got was in desperate need of salt. Really disappointed overall. Maybe it was an off day or something, but just wasn't worth it imo.

I took pictures of signs and their outdoor seating arrangements as well as their drive-through. Then, I went inside and took a look around. I was met by a small crowd and very busy cooks behind the counter. I took some pictures and finally got to meet the staff. They are very polite, and greeted me with a smile and asked me what I wanted to order. I couldn't make up my mind, but I did ask a lot of questions to get an idea how to position their advertising. So much to choose from. It sounds to me that this is the type of place where you order- pick up and go on a picnic or bring to your home to feed the masses. That was my take away; A picnic table, bench, and a broad selection of meats. You can't beat the prices here either. For the same price of going to McDonald's, you can order A better tasting meal. I prefer supporting our local businesses so that they can remain here and serve the loyal customer base. To be honest, I didn't order anything. But I did see the range of food that they do serve and they do very well for the selections. The food here sounds to be very consistent. I plan on coming back and having a sit down with Gary who is the owner there. He's a pretty neat guy from what I hear.

Slab BBQ almost went out of business, however, with new investors and partners were able to stay afloat. The million dollar question...are those strawberry habanero glazed ribs exactly the same. The response...a resounding yes! The were super tender, expertly flavored and drizzling in the the strawberry habanero glaze. Many of the former menu items can still be ordered at Stack City. In addition, during Thursday Happy Hour, you can get the ribs at half price. Stack City has a laid-back, chill vibe. We are definitely experiencing some tough economic times throughout the United States. It is good to see that this business was able to survive this economic downturn.

I think Austin might be sleepin' on this place! I got the Texas Tornado, which is essentially a BBQ burrito - bbq meats, beans, and mashed potatoes (I removed the onions and jalapeños). You add your own sauces to your liking - the Gold sauce was my favorite! The portion was enormous, so I ended up only eating half. I wish I could've done a half order and maybe tried more sides. The space is great - fun decor, a cute bar, fun staff! I wish they would've talked up the menu a little more after I said I was from out of town. Given the low traffic, I had hoped for a more personable interaction. I hope this place gets more in-restaurant diners. I hope to be back!

Late posting this review. I've been here twice with my husband now (recent visit was this past…read moreSaturday). I only have pictures from our first visit, but the second time around I got the fried pork belly fried rice as my side to go with the pork ribs. The pork ribs are moist, tender, and fall-off-the-bone delicious! On my first visit, I got the potato salad as my side. It was okay, just not as flavorful as I personally like -- but everyone has their own preference when it comes to potato salad. I ended up adding a little extra seasoning to mine, which is why I decided to try a different side the second time around. The pork belly fried rice paired really well with the ribs! The BBQ sauce could use a little more flavor in my opinion, and the portion they give is pretty small, so I ended up adding some of my own sauce. But the pickled onions and pickles on the side? SO good. Especially the onions -- they had such a distinct flavor that I could honestly eat them by themselves. They reminded me of the pickled veggies you get on a bánh mì sandwich, just without being overly vinegary. Honestly, if they ever made a brisket bánh mì sandwich using those pickled onions and veggies, it would probably be amazing! My husband always gets the brisket sandwich and loves the onions and pickles with it too. The location is tucked away down a small, rough-looking road near some duplexes. Our first time coming, we almost turned around because we were in my husband's coupe, but the second visit we took my SUV instead. Don't let the road scare you away though -- the food is worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful both times we visited. The location is also super convenient for us since we live nearby. Definitely happy we found this spot!

The Best in Central Texas!…read more I've tried BBQ from all over, and while I might be a little biased, I firmly believed that the best BBQ was in Florida... until I tried Smoky Buns. First, let's talk about the location. It's tucked down a bumpy road between two duplex apartments. It sounds a little sketchy, but trust me, it is so worth it (definitely drive your truck or SUV if you have one!). This place is a true hidden gem. They have a dope setup with covered outdoor seating if you want to chill and eat there, but we ended up taking ours to go. Now, for the food. I ordered the 1 Meat Brisket Plate, which comes with a side, sauce, and pickles/pickled onions. Bro... that brisket was like butter. I know "tenderism" is trending all over social media right now, but this right here is the real deal!! It was so incredibly soft. For my side, I got the potato salad. To be honest, it was a little bland on its own, but it actually worked as a nice, solid base for me to hook it up my own way once I got home. Overall, Smoky Buns is a dope spot and easily hands-down the best BBQ in Central Texas!!!! I will absolutely be back.
