I am really sorry to write this but I dont get it. I was at the Parmer lane location and had to take my stuff to go. I ordered Moist Brisket and 2 sides. when I got back to my place, I opened it up and the Brisket was horrible! The receipt said Cutter's choice. if that means giving someone dry (not moist) pieces and ends; and the couple pieces of moist didnt smell good and were so fatty, looks like I got the dregs. I will not order again. I am not sure if I will go back there. It seems if you do not sit down and eat, and take it to go, you get a less quality cut. I've seen this place a few times when I come to this shopping center but nothing caught my attention so I mostly ignored it. But recently it was lunch time and I thought why not try. The reviews are mixed and I figured I was taking a chance but I'll never know unless I give it a try. I'm new to Texas but not a new "foodie" and I've tried several of the typical BBQ places everyone talks about and I want to try some of the places that not as many people know about. Each time I've been here (I've already come back from the first visit) I'm greeted by the staff who are very friendly and welcoming. They have much of the traditional servings you would expect to find at a BBQ restaurant and for my first visit, I ordered the jalapeño sausage and the pork loin sandwich and for my sides, I had the coleslaw and potato salad. You can order the meats by the pound or as a meal with sides. The pork loin came sliced on a soft bun. They serve a pretty generous portion on the sandwich and the meat is cooked perfectly. Not dry at all and quite tender. For my own personal taste, I put coleslaw atop the meat and drizzled some of their signature BBQ sauce and this was heaven! I was not impressed by the jalapeño sausage. It was cooked okay, but the sausage just didn't seem to have much flavor to it. And for the sides, the coleslaw tasted as if it was made with real buttermilk. I've read people comment about how you can't mess up coleslaw but this is so far from the truth and I could name a dozen places where their version of coleslaw is simply chopped up cabbage. This coleslaw is amazing. And the potato salad is like something traditional my family made a long time ago and served at a picnic. It's amazing! The pork loin sandwich was so good, I ordered the brisket sandwich and chopped beef sandwich to go. I brought those home and they didn't last long around the family! So, the food was so amazing, I went back the next day and we bought SIX sandwiches and a large order of the coleslaw. And as before, those sandwiches didn't last long. We even bought a bottle of their signature BBQ sauce which hands down, is one of the BEST from any of the BBQ places we have dined at since arriving in Texas. Someone commented on how their sauce isn't spicy and no flavor; that person couldn't have possibly tried this sauce because it's simply one of the best! I'm surprised I don't see this sauce in stores but I'll be buying some and sending it back home to friends and family as gifts. I'm a big iced-tea (unsweetened) person and they serve a delicious freshly brewed iced tea. They even have their own cups and if you come back they give $1 refills. The only comment I have is the cup... it's a nice solid plastic cup, but it's too big to fit into a traditional cup holder in your car, so it's not very conducive for taking it with you. I hope in the future they will change their custom cups to the ones that will fit in a car cup holder. These are pretty common these days and I can't believe they are any more expensive than the cups they currently use. From the outside it might look a little unassuming, but DO NOT pass this place up! If you are looking for some really good Texas BBQ, you won't be disappointed here. And you need to get a bottle of the sauce! We've been twice in two days and will be back to try some of the other meats. read more

I have so many good things to say about this place that I don't know where to start. Well, let's start with the food then, the bbq is delicious, the sides are great and the servings are more than enough. Now the environment of this place is what makes me want to go back over and over. Simple, but sparkly clean, small tv on the corner with the volume low just for you to have something to look at or hear while you eat. I'm not here to shame anyone, but the food here isn't exactly Texas BBQ. The brisket is more or less roast beef thats been cooked for 6 hours too long, no smoke ring and pieces couldn't be picked up without crumbling (0 bend or pull). The sausage and turkey weren't great, but the baked potato is something people would enjoy. Overall I'm confused on the location, but I assume it's more of a catering business. After MONTHS of wanting to stop by, we finally headed over for lunch on a chilly, rainy day. The chopped brisket on potato was the perfect bad weather snack. Fresh, packed with my beloved carbs, offered tons of tasty flavors, and was the size of my head. We bought a little extra brisket to use when we reheated it and it made for another very tasty and filling meal. The side of Mac and cheese was tasty and homemade. The employees were AWESOME and worked with us to make sure we got the best possible meal combo for lunch! The only disappointment was the peach cobbler. I LOVE my desserts but unfortunately this just didn't do it for me. The peaches were floating around in a thick, gel-ly sauce and some graham cracker crumbles were sprinkled on top, then it was put into their mini fridge. This place is the worst Smokey Mo's. An order was placed, and 10 minutes later, the cashier Shane comes out and says, we don't enough ribs for a 1 pound, would you like something else? I say how many pounds do you have left, answer NONE. A change was offered not even equal to a pound of ribs by weight or price. I should have known something was off as I overheard the guests in front of me complain about the wait time. There was no urgency about completing orders. I have never known a Smokey Mo's to be like this. I left the store and called back to speak with a manager. The manager was Shane. Shane does not have a clue how to correct an issue or understand how to make a customer happy. When speaking to him, it was like a deer in headlights. I talked to another store manager about how to handle the issue and she was mortified when I explained what happened. Shane never offered anything to make the situation right. The staff is friendly and act like they are happy to be there serving very good food. While I typically go for breakfast, their entire menu is solid. The first issue was that they gave away our order to a door dash driver by accident. The replacement order we were given was (needless to say) very disappointing. The brisket was in pieces ( it looked more like pulled pork), the potato salad had absolutely no flavor, the beans were overcooked, and the flavor in the sauce seemed to be a mixture of vinegar & jalapeno juice. Heads up if you are a stickler for solid service. Last night I placed an order just after 8 and picked it up about 8:30. 2 employees in view, no customers in house simingly not busy and we got home missing half of our order. Not wanting to drive all the way back 2 people end up having a half meal rather than each a whole meal. Obviously a terrible hit on your brand. Even if your metrics show 98% success my experience shows 100% failure. This is the sort of thing that will lead us to other places to eat which of course hurts the all important "growth" component for your establishment. Patrons gravitate back to competent restaurants that double check orders before they go out. One in particular I've done business with for 30 years and have never experienced a missing meal or side from an order. Even my receipt has 2 sets of initials on it being the person that filled the order and the person that checked it before the customer receives it. With Smokey Mo's, not so much. We were literally missing an entire meal with 2 employees in house and no customers. Next problem, the food was actually delicious which truly made it tough for me to have to split my entire meal with someone else. Going to have to take a pass on this one moving forward. I gave this a try for the first time since it's local and honestly, it was not great. The best thing was the jalapeño sausage. I ordered marble brisket, not one sign of marble and it was extremely tough. Pork ribs were extremely salty. My baked potatoes were hard as rocks. We have been a long-time patron of Smokey Mo's and have always recommended them and used them for catering events. Recently something has changed. The menu, staff, pricing, & quality have all changed. The staff is no longer the friendly, welcoming bunch. The quality of food has gone down & the prices have gone up. I realize that anyone can have an off day, so my review is not based off of one visit. My last three visits have been sub-par. In Aug we ordered a family pack. The BBQ was dry and the flavor seemed as they had used a heavy hand with liquid smoke. Not the normal quality Smokey Mo's is known for. Just before Thanksgiving, I called to see if they could take a large order (3 family packs) They assured me they could I spent an hour putting together an order for over $300 of BBQ. Just as they were about to take payment, I was told that the manager decided they should not accept this order as it was a busy time and they did not want to sell their BBQ on family packs when they could sell on individual orders. We went back after Thanksgiving. This time, for just one family pack. The ribs were more fat than meat. The brisket was so fatty, the butcher paper separated and stuck to the meat. What they served as sliced brisket, they would have normally turned to chopped beef. There were 3 people working behind the counter, No one greeted any of the customers or said thank you customers paying. Others waiting made comments about it as well and pointed out that they heard it recently changed ownership. The girl working behind the counter did not know who owned or managed the restaurant. The biggest disappointment is the change in the staff. Everyone has always been so friendly and welcoming there. You were always made to feel welcome and appreciated. Unfortunately that is no longer the situation. Austin has too many really great BBQ places with good food & service. I hate to say it, but take Smokey Mo's off of your list of places to get BBQ.
