As a former student at UC Berkeley, Tasty Pot is one of my go-to restaurants to cure a hangover. Pho is usually my go-to, but the pho places around the area are below average. As a broke college student, Tasty Pot can be a bit pricey, but I think it's always a delightful experience since food never disappoints and service is always above average. I am not a fan of seafood, so I always opt in for the Cheesy Milk Soup base, which is really tasty. I like how when you're running low on soup, you can always ask for more, thus I always leave this place really full! I also like how I can control the heat of the soup by simply adjusting the bottom of the pot to cover the fire. This place can get busy during peak dinner hours, but wait time is not much of a pain. There have been many other hot pot places around Berkeley that open up, but somehow, Tasty Pot is the only that continues to remain open, which is for many great reasons! read more

This Tasty Pot location is a bit small, but they make it up with seating on the second floor. This is probably the busiest location I had been to in the Bay Area because of all the students. There is always a long line out of the door and a long wait. I tried coming here a few times, but no luck - the line went around the corner. Service is eh here and it is a bit unorganized as well. The one time I did get lucky, I came here 20-30 minutes before they opened back up for dinner, so my friends and I were first in line. Like most other locations, I order my usual - the Japanese Miso. The pot tasted like most locations I had been to - nothing too spectacular and no major complaints. read more

One star for how gross I feel when I was there -(multi-purpose gloves). Two stars for decent food and service. When I got to the restaurant I went to the restroom, a female worker came out of the restroom (gloves already on?!). It's quite gross. I don't think she changed the gloves after she came out of the restroom. Are they multi-purpose gloves? I watched her the entire time I was there since I would see everything from where I was sitting. She's the person who makes the iced drink they give to each table and she restocks all the cups and things in that cubical with register and sink. Not once did she change those multi-purpose gloves! Is there only 1 pair of gloves per worker?? The only good thing I saw was that she washed a pot at the sink (at least the gloves got some rinse). And she washed her hands (with gloves on) once. This has to be a health violation of some sort - can't really enjoy my meal because of her. Please give her more gloves so that she can change them and not wear the same ones for everything and every room. read more

With conflicting reviews on whether or not the veggie hot pot was vegan, I called. It is. There was a garage but I didn't use it.. I found metered street parking. The restaurant is open for lunch, closes, and then reopens for dinner. It had two levels of seating. We entered and was instructed to sit at one of the tables there but there was also stairs leading up to another section of seating. When seated, you'll find a QR Code to scan. That leads you to order from your phone. I knew the veg option was vegan. That's what I went with with the addition of instant noodles. Christopher, on the other hand, did all these adjustments to his and there is a "special request" you can press for that. Iced tea in plastic cups were also brought to us. The hot pots are individual so you each get your own soup rather than sharing a big pot. When it comes the server lights underneath the bowl and it kept going for the duration of our meal, keeping the soup hot. When the broth was low, our server poured water into our bowls to add more to the dwindling broth. (The veggie broth is water based). Service was good.. I also watched how diligent they were in cleaning. With ordering using the QR code on your phone, we didn't know how payment worked.. A check is brought to your table at the end of your meal. [pre-COVID] Delicious! Would come around maybe once every 1-2 months! Each pot is generous in portions and the place just serves flavorful tasty food. Although I'm not adventurous enough to try out many different flavors of the Taiwanese hot pot options (I'm basic in choosing mainly Beef), I believe they're probably all great. The sauces are a must. Depending on your comfort of spice, you can mix the sauces together to provide more punch for flavor. Orders: - Beef Hot Soup (mild spice, with rice): yum! Tasty pot is an overall good experience. You order through the QR code on your phone. This place does not give green tea or black tea compared to the other Bay Area locations. I did get a cup of water in a plastic cup. No biggie though I ordered the beef soup hot pot and it was exactly what I expected. The flavor was good and decent amount of meat/toppings. Heard lots of things about this place from other locals and students, so I obviously had to come and try it. We came in just before closing and got seated right away. We were served cold ice tea while waiting and our food came out shortly after. While I ordered the very spicy option, I found that the soup itself was a bit diluted and not the way that I had ordered. In addition, you can't really turn off the flame burner underneath the pot, and so we found that the soup had to be eaten quickly, or else it kept evaporating and not giving enough time for some of the ingredients to adequately cook. Overall, while the dish wasn't bad, I wish that the soup was spicier, and that the flame could somehow be controlled. In addition, the restaurant's unusual opening times knock down my rating a bit as well. read more

I've come here many times before and had good experiences. Then I went to the location in SF and came back here again. I realize now that the Berkeley location of tasty pot has really really watered down broth. It is nowhere as flavorful or delicious as the SF location. The food is still good but the broth is just subpar compared to the branch. It's strange to me that there would be such a difference in quality within a single restaurant chain. The service was great. We were seated pretty quickly. The staff was very attentive and came by to refill our broth many times. Overall, this place is good for what it is. But if you've gone to the SF or Cupertino locations and are expecting that level of flavor, prepare to be disappointed. Also try to come during lunch. It's cheaper and comes with a tea read more

I should have taken it as a warning to not eat here when they didn't ask for my COVID vaccine card. I could have also left when they brought me out a dirty spoon. However, my craving for a warm bowl of soup clouded my better judgement. I mean who doesn't love a warm bowl of soup when it's cold and rainy outside? My husband and I brought our boys and parents out to eat and ordered two bowls of beef hot pot (mild), one 3 cheesy milk hot soup (medium), one Japanese miso hot soup, and two milk teas. Now the tables here are tiny, like they barely fit 4 people, let alone a party of 6! However, they only had tables of 4 and we made it work. When a table for 2 beside us opened up, we asked if we could combine that table with ours so we can have more room to eat and the boiling soup wouldn't spill on our kids. The boss lady informed us that they couldn't because they were going to close the upstairs and they would need that table. Rewind to the end of our dinner, they never closed the upstairs and the table beside us remained empty the entire night... Now for the soups, I ordered a mild spicy so I could share with my kids, but the soup was so spicy I even thought it was hot and my spice tolerance is pretty high. My father (who can only do very mild spicy) looked like he just walked in the rain by the end of the meal since he was sweating so much for the spice. I will say the portions were good and I am normally a fan of the Tasty Pot franchise. This location just fell very short. It was very disappointing. The saddest part was my poor excuse for milk tea. My husband and I both ordered milk tea, mine with boba and his without. For $5.25, I expected something that tasted better than watered down milk and day old, disintegrated, flavorless boba. Needless to say, I did not finish my drink. I will NEVER come back here again and STRONGLY advise you take my experience into consideration. Don't say I didn't warn you. Also, we came at the end of the night and when we paid in cash they said they didn't have change and they would just keep it as tip... I guess that's how they get bigger tips? Hey it's COVID, I get you need to make extra cash, but really? Oh, also, now I know why they have so many 5-star reviews. At the end of every receipt they solicit for 5-Star Reviews in exchange for discounts. Sorry, my soul is worth more than a bowl of soup. Thank you, but no thank you. read more

We ordered the Tofu Cream Maitake noodles, Tofu Cubes (I think that's what they were called?) and Scallion Oil Noodles. Typically we order maybe 4 dishes or 5 dishes at a regular Taiwanese place but after we saw how small the dishes were for the price, we just kept it at 3. The Scallion Oil Noodles were fragrant and Crispy Tofu Cubes were really good. The tofu cubes were more like BLOCKS and had great crispy texture. That was probably our favorite dish. I had such high expectations for the tofu cream noodles but it was really bland, not "mild", it was bland. And the flecks of maitake were just lost in there somewhere. It was disappointing because I love maitake and tofu!! All in all, it was an okay experience but I'm glad we stopped in. I don't think I would come back but it's definitely worth one try! Maybe if we were eating meat dishes, we would have had a different experience? This vegan will never know. In summary, the food was fresh and well-prepared but the portions were small and too pricey for what it is.

(not quite as dark brown in color and didn't have as much of that silky gelatinous mouthfeel that comes from the skin and fat in the pork belly.) however, a lot of the other dishes we tried were really good! i loved the seasonal clam dish they had, and their eggplant noodles were also amazing. next time, i think i'll order just the eggplant though because the noodles were really filling. overall, good to eat is a great restaurant for introducing people to the taiwanese cuisine and a decent spot for hitting a taiwanese food craving in east bay.

I even brought my parents here when they were visiting from New York, and they still talk about it. That's saying something considering how many Chinese takeout spots there are in NY--this place is another level: fresh, thoughtful, and truly feels gourmet. What also makes this place special is the community feeling. When we hosted our Lunar New Year celebration at the school, they hung our flyer in their window and even came by with a tray of egg rolls for the event. The owner is so sweet, and I love that Blue Moon is on the menu because it's her favorite. The space is open and inviting but still cozy, and the service is always great--intuitive and warm. Even the younger staff I've seen seem genuinely grateful to work there. We're lucky to have such a lovely neighborhood restaurant nearby.

You pick a broth base as it comes with that articular meat of your choosing, then select the different rolls of meat. There are also different sides available (like chicken feet and tripe). There is also a self-serve cooler fridge that contains the usual hot pot items that you can add to your bowl from veggies, protein and noodles. The soup options are the following: - Spicy - Tomato - Sacha Seafood - Curry Flavored - Hot & Sour - Pork Tripe and Chicken - Beef Brisket - Beef Rib - Wild Mushroom There was also a sweet (not-too-sweet) drink in a large carafe-type container that was quite delightful. It was light, tasty and quite addicting that I kept refilling my cup. The vibe of the place feels old and homey; however, most of the customers were young, student-types. Perhaps UC Berkeley students? It also wasn't busy and half of the restaurant was empty. Most of us were seated by the front. All in all, we had a good dinner as the broths were seasoned well and not overly salty. Yes, most of the dishes are self-serve, but you can control the portion this way. I also enjoyed the chicken feet and tripe, which aren't typically on a hot pot menu in most places. There's also the hidden protein inside the broths. Whatever option you order (i.e. chicken, pork) there's hunks of them on the bottom for you to discover. It's like having a hidden reward. It's a good hot pot spot that won't break the bank.
