It was such a cold day, meaning it was PERFECT for some hot pot! I hadn't gone to Tasty Pot since freshman year, so it's been a while, but it hit SO different because my friends and I were craving it. The workers were quick to bring our food out, fill our water, and refill the broth! Pro tip: ask for the sauce to eat with the hot pot bc it's SO GOOD!! WHEN: 11/6/21 Saturday @ 1pm Heard a lot about Tasty Pot in berkeley as it's the only hot pot location in the entire city. The place is located in downtown Berkeley right next to campus. The place is really big with two levels and a lot of tables available. They're only open a few hours so expect to wait if you come during peak times. Ordered the curry pot ($15), Szechuan pot ($18), and kimchi dumpling pot ($15). They give complimentary sweet ice tea which was really good. Tasted like a mix of black and chrysanthemum tea. The food came out fast even though the place was really busy. Each of the broths are the same (pork broth) but differs on if you get different flavors. I thought it was delicious! The flavors of each pot were really nice and the portions aren't huge but arent small. You can definitely finish one pot on your own. This Tasty Pot location is on a whole other level. I just ordered some Togo from here and I love how they packed it. Compared to other locations this one is my favorite. I usually go to the Newark or Dublin location but now I'm coming from now on. I love that they put there vermicelli in broth for Togo. This allows me to add more broth to the soup when I heat it up at home. It make the whole experience a lot more worth it. Usually by the time I get home and heat up the pot all the broth is gone. I always get the Taiwanese spicy and often am disappointed cause there is barely any broth left. And don't forget the sauce. The soy bean sauce and garlic soy is so good. It complement everything. Y'all is missing out if you haven't tried tasty pot yet. Literally the best hangover food/ comfort food around. Also I forgot to mention, they literally taped the straw to my drink. Tasty Pot is a top spot for some Asian-centric soup in Berkeley. The soups were all incredibly flavorful and they really load the toppings. Shout out to Michael, one of the servers here. He was super attentive, answering all of our questions, refilling waters, and brought our food out. He's honestly jacked because the dude lifted 2 hot pots at the same time. I ordered taiwan spice hot pot. It's only $20 but huge size. Only half of the hotpot could Make me full. They offered a small alcohol stove to cook hot pot. Tasty Pot is one of my favorite soup places of all time. It just fulfills all of my cravings, I love the hot soup and taste. I usually get number 1- beef and beef hot soup or the Taiwanese supreme spicy pot-- that one is larger with noodles and lots of more meats and intestines but the soup so so good. They come in fire heated pots where you can keep it on or shut it off. All soups come with rice or noodles for an additional cost. I like to dip my meat in the sauces they give. They also can give you additional broth while you're eating, so sometimes you can share but a lot of people can eat it all themselves. I love going to tasty pot post bachelorettes. They give you complimentary water and they also have milk teas/bobas there too. You can order via QR code and take care of everything or you can order with the server. It's probably easiest through the QR code and for anything additional you want. Located within downtown Berkeley, parking can be difficult when it's busy. There's street parking right out front or you'll have to circle around to find a street spot. I came in on a Sunday evening upon closing and got lucky. If you like Asian soup, you have to try Tasty Pot at one of their locations. If you don't finish you can also take it home! They have other appetizers which is good for children but we mainly go for the soup. read more

We came on a rainy Saturday night craving the goodness of piping hot food and that is what we got! We arrived @ 6pm and waited 30 minutes to be seated. Neat thing was we were able to order while waiting and our food came out less than 2 minutes after we were seated. It's a pretty good system in my opinion. We both had the Sichuan spicy pot and the flavor was on point! It was authentically spicy and not just salty as most places do to their broths. The hot pot here satisfied my hot pot craving, I love how rich the broth is and how quickly it cooked in the individual hot pot. I'm grateful that they opened one closer to me. I used to venture out all the wayyy to the south bay for some tasty pot. Their concept is individual hot pots that is served on a cute little flame. Portion size is pretty big and it'll fill you up. They have a lot of different flavors to try depending on what you're craving at the moment. Location is kinda hard to find parking and the wait is always kinda long since it's a small place. It's close to the school so when I say long, it gets a bit unrealistic. Make sure you have other options open if you're hangry. read more

Hearty Taiwanese hot pot, served in a cute single person portion! However, the service and quality of food may keep you from returning. The beef hot soup is well packed with different meats and veggies to keep you interested. However, I feel like the amount of beef was exchanged for larger quantities of Napa cabbage. The cuts of beef are also a bit tough and rubbery. The broth tastes a bit watered down and not very savory. I also found a broken clam shell with jagged edges and broken pieces in my soup that if I accidentally ingested, could have cut me badly. The restaurant refused to do anything about this or exchange my hot pot for a new one, which convinced me to stop eating. If you come for lunch, you get a free cup of green tea with your meal. I thought mine was very refreshing. The ambience inside is homey; they play trendy music on par with the college campus nearby. Overall, I would return if no other hot pot place opened up nearby. read more

This place lets you modify the soup so it's dry friendly to those who have dietary restrictions. I've had almost every soup and my favorites are the Szechuan, beef, lamb, and cheese hot pots. Food was reminiscent of boiling point, maybe slightly below them but pretty good still. It's a safe option if you're looking for personal hot pot. Honestly surprised this place isn't at least 4.3 stars Service was great and attentive, parking is hard but that's just Berkeley. [Pre-COVID Review] This is the next closest thing to Boiling Point Taiwanese hot pot. It is a chain located all over California. The broth seemed really watered down and not flavorful. The wait during dinner time is extremely long and their wait system doesn't seem as efficient. Inside is very busy and feels very narrow and crammed. Been here 3 times now so here's a detailed review Limited street parking so be patient, walking in it's a small restaurant but it's cozy and spacious enough to maintain privacy. I prefer to sit in the upstairs dining area. Also I might be eating this dish wrong because I ask them to not turn the hot burning coals on since I can not eat my food when it's extremely hot in temperature. Typically the fire is suppose to burn and go out itself in time but I don't enjoy eating my food that way ALTHOUGH I realize that is the way it is supposed to be eaten here which is great and I love how different cultures eat there soups.In my opinion these soups have a lot of topping but not enough noodles in even when I ordered extra noodles at an extra charge I still did not feel satisfied with the portion of noodles given for a $30 soup. Ingredients tasted very fresh and soup was delicious. Note that add ons are overly expensive for example $3 for one hard boiled egg. Also add on options are not clear enough so how many dumplings come in one order of an add on is not clear on the menu. Service is always speedy we get our soups within minutes from ordering whether it's busy or not and workers are polite and attentive. FYI all the broths seem to be pork broth and once I tried the Thai option and I was not satisfied with how it tasted very distinctive taste for me but all other broths were extremely tasty! we got the sichuan spicy and taiwanese spicy with a side of their new skewers. both the sichuan spicy and skewers had a prominent numbing spice that we really enjoyed. eating the skewers we're kind of a suprise since we didn't know what was in it when ordering. it was mainly fish balls, sausages, mushrooms and beef wrapped veges. there was around two of each so it's perfect to share. the portions are pretty generous and goes super well with rice. i think the sauces on the table helps bring out the flavor so don't forget to use them! i wish they had more vegetable variety in the pot though. for the taiwan spicy specifically, it came with instant ramen so make sure you don't double order it! service was nice mainly college part timers. usually pretty busy but the wait isn't too bad. we went around 5pm on Sunday and was able to be seated immediately. read more

The restaurant's philosophy is to be inclusive and many of their staff are from the LGBTQ community. The staff were super friendly and service-focused when we were there, adding to our dining experience. As for the food, the Taiwanese dishes here do not adhere to a traditional recipe, but rather it is Taiwanese cuisine with a modern twist. The Lou Rou Fan, for example, does not feature a stewed egg or mustard greens that would be standard at other Taiwanese eateries. Those looking for stinky tofu would be disappointed in not finding it here. What we did tried, however, were more like upscaled Taiwanese flavor-inspired dishes. We started with the grilled whole squid with house side pickle, and the Dou Bao (layered tofu sheet). The squid was excellent with the smoky grilled taste and we loved the perfectly fermented Chinese kimchee. The Dou Bao was unique in that the tofu sheets were served grilled, rather than the chilled wet version I am used to. Following the server's recommendation, we had the bamboo shoots rice soup claypot, which was homey and large enough for sharing. We loved the Shrimp with Specialty Tofu Sauce Noodle. The tofu sauce was creamy and garlicky. The shrimps were fresh and crisp. Fried chicken is a Taiwanese specialty, and the Pepper Numbing Chicken Culet did not disappoint. The chicken was perfectly fried but the meat remained tender and moist. The Taiwanese sweet pepper numbing sauce was great over the fried chicken, and in fact, it is pretty much good over anything. The Taiwanese Minced-Pork Noodle is like a Dan Dan noodle, with fermented bean paste sourced from Taiwan. We were lucky that on our visit they have the Taiwanese Twins Donuts, which were like beignets, but made from sough naturally cultivated in house for 3 days. This was really yummy. You have to order the soft serves, which was named by SF Chronicle as one of the best soft serves in the Bay Area. We tried the black sesame oil with sea salt flakes, and also the plum sauce version. Both were delicious.

Tasty pot is amazing hands down. The service is great and at first, you might think it's too long for the wait, BUT it's totally worth it. The food tastes so good and the waiters are on top of their stuff in terms of providing you the best service (water served on a fresh basis and they'll ask how you're doing). This is my favorite hotpot restaurants in San Jose! I love that they serve individual pots for every customer. They have a variety of pot selections, ranging from kimchi, Thai, to Vietnamese and so on. The food is very flavorful. They also have a great boba. My favorite would have to be the Hokkaido milk tea. You can find your style of clothes, shoes, makeup, jewelry and perfume. There are a lot of different shops and brands. If you want to park then the best place to park is in the mall parking. It is free and easy to find parking especially if you come early. Btw, they have a good and decent restaurants in the second floor. Enjoy.! read more

My bf said his pho was extremely salty and lacking in overall flavor. He's usually really easygoing and loves pho from pretty much anywhere but this was so bad he complained about how salty it was the rest of the evening. The menu had 3 vegan options which was awesome. I went with tofu chay pho and found it to be okay. The soup was pretty standard and it came with a generous amount of freshly fried tofu. I don't know if this was intentionally done for texture, but the tofu had been previously frozen, rendering it spongey and chewy. I typically don't see this preparation of tofu for pho, so I'm not sure what to make of it. You usually do that to tofu if you're going to stew it, not to toss in a clear broth. It was a bit tough and chewy for my preference, but to their credit the tofu was fried nicely and wasn't super oily. I was bummed it only came with tofu as I thought "chay" meant there would be veggies but maybe it only meant "vegetarian" in this context. They did not hold back on the tofu though. The portion was so generous, I had to bring it home. I have to point out that their rice noodle is really good (despite both of our lackluster soups). I eat slow and before I know it, the noodles are mushy and breaking. (My fault, not the noodles'). Not these noodles tho! They held up and let me take my time. If you're looking for pho that gets the job done, Pho Tasty isn't a bad option. The service was nice, the ambiance is good and they're open until 10pm.

For context, I am a student at University of California, Berkeley and a PM at a Fortune 500 company. I say that only to make clear that I am a professional person who understands how to treat others with respect and how basic customer service should work. I came in for a pickup order and stood there attempting multiple times to get the employee's attention. She ignored me repeatedly, even looking directly in my direction without acknowledging me. Then I heard her say hello, and for a moment assumed she was finally speaking to me. Instead, she intentionally greeted and assisted a couple who had just walked in behind me. After helping them, she again looked my way and continued to avoid acknowledging me. In that moment, the treatment felt deliberate and discriminatory. When she finally addressed me, the interaction remained hostile. She appeared suspicious of whether the pickup order was actually mine, despite me giving the correct name that was already listed on the receipt and not visible to me beforehand. Beyond the service, the food itself was equally disappointing. I ordered the orange chicken, and it was some of the driest, lowest-quality chicken I have had anywhere. I have traveled extensively and eaten food all over the world, and it is rare to experience food this poor combined with service this disrespectful. This was an embarrassing experience for a business located near University of California, Berkeley. There are many better options nearby, and I would strongly recommend spending your money elsewhere. No one should have to deal with treatment like this or pay for a meal like this.
