I ordered the lemon grass tofu with rice. The pickled veggies on the side was pretty good, the lemon grass tofu was delicious. First, the store is really cozy gives off a nice and welcoming vibe. Family owned business so her recipes are all authentic. When I walked in I was greeted immediately with a warming smile asking "how can I help you". Food was made to order, always fresh. This vermicelli tasted really good has a lot of flavor, adding the nuoc mam really makes this dish explode with flavor. Reminded me of my grandma's cooking Definitely would recommend to try this family owned business out, they recently re opened with a new owner. Came across this shop while looking for some coffee near my work. I grew up in Socal, specifically in Little Saigon, so I have high standards and am incredibly spoiled in taste when it comes to viet food. Comeback Cafe is a quaint little corner shop with about a dozen highchair seats and a very "quick lunch" vibe, but in a welcoming way. Service was solid, very nice people. Very clearly a family run restaurant - the parents seem to be in the back making the food while their children handle the front end service. They actually speak vietnamese to each other as well, which is always a good sign. I ordered the pork banh mi and a viet coffee. Came out to about $17, theres a $15 happy hour 1-4pm though per their instagram. Banh mi was on the smaller side compared to my usual socal experience, which Ive found is typical for sf/oakland places, but it was not lacking in flavor. Veggies were fresh, jalapenos were spicy, pork was warm and flavorful. Bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Very crumb-heavy, which is the hallmark of a good banh mi to me. Not a real banh mi if I'm not wiping off crumbs from my pants after eating it. Again, small size overall but they do well with the fillings and quality. I'm 6'3 so typically eat more but i could see most people feeling satisfied for lunch with this. Coffee is also solid. Bit creamier and less bitter which i enjoy and find that fits the taste profile of my generation of viets more. Theres also a good amount in the cup and not 80% ice filled like many places, including socal. Overall, good, local, family-run spot. I can tell they are putting their best foot forward here. It's a nice taste of home for me and I'll be back to support them whenever the craving hits me again. Do wish they had a banh mi dac biet though! read more

My favorite neighborhood family-run cafe!! Was so relieved they opened after the pandemic in this area where good quick restos are a bit scarce outside of the Public Market. Not an extensive menu but everything you need from bun me sandwiches, rice or vermicelli plate, and pho with even vegetarian options. Don't forget boba on the side. I personally love the mango. This place is incredible. This was my first time trying the Jasmine Matcha. It was a very interesting taste but I enjoyed it! The matcha was very creamy and you can taste the jasmine in there too. Simple hole in the wall spot with yummy milk tea drinks and delicious sandwiches. The bread they use for their Bahn Mi Sandwhiches were fresh and soft. Also, the shrimp and Turkey rolls were generous in size and worth the price. Menu is small but provide just enough to give everyone some options. I very much enjoyed their blue ocean milk tea. It was not overly sweet and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. This place is decent for the area. I agree with others that are better places in Oakland, but this is Emeryville so you gotta give them credit. I've had a few different things here: Pork cold noodle - I'm not entirely sure if they make the pork themselves, but I do know it's not grilled and it came in lumps stuck to each other. Not too enticing to order again. Pork banh mi - the bread is nice and it's a decent size. Again, the pork is not grilled and also not the red BBQ one typically found in Chinese places. This is missing that punch of flavor with the pate and mayo.. The veggies didn't have too much of a taste from the pickling. Spring rolls - I feel it's worth it to get the more expensive Shrimp ones as they are the best tasting ones. You get 3 and it even has some fried onions in it which I liked. The wait depends on which items you get. Spring rolls take a bit longer as well as the other entrees, but the cold noodle is very fast for some reason which relates to the pork. All in all- it's okay, but don't expect too much. There is street parking (time limited) and a communal table for sitting outside. read more
