This location of tasty pot has terrible customer service. At first everything is quick, they get you seated and even gave complementary iced green tea, took orders and after the food comes the workers are gone until it's time to pay. My family of four ordered three pots, I shared with my little sister because there's no way we could've finished one ourselves. When ordering we made sure to ask for an extra bowl of rice. When the food came out we only got three bowls of rice, so we reminded our server for the fourth one, and it didn't come for another 15 minutes. Also they gave the first cup of iced green tea, but after that they filled the cups with water so the taste of the tea and water mixed together and tasted funny. I, initially, came here during their soft opening. Since then, I've returned once and I am officially a fan of this place. The first time, I ordered the Taiwanese Supreme Spicy hot pot, very spicy, for $15.99. This one was also larger than the other ones. The 2nd time, I ended up ordering the lamb hot pot. The supreme spicy hot pot was by far the winner. I don't think I'd end up ordering anything else. It was pretty much a combination soup served with both meat and seafood. It also had ramen. Definitely perfect for those who could put it down. I had to take half of mine togo. I love the concept of bringing a tower of goodness to your table and then lighting up the heat source to keep your food hot. Awesome concept. Each hot pot is served with either rice or vermicelli. They also have boba and a variety of desserts ranging from ice cream cookie sandwiches to ice cream macarons. Street parking only. As a seasoned check-in veteran, I highly suggest the #1: Beef Hot Soup + vermicelli! You can also get it with rice, but IMO vermicelli is the way to go. Of course, there was a waitlist but I was surprised how efficient they were - the workers took our order ahead of time so our food came shortly after we sat down. Genius. For a place that gets pretty busy, the servers are pretty attentive and the tables are kept clean. We both ordered the beef hot soup - one mild, one medium. I thought the mild had just enough spice. My sister ordered medium spicy and her broth was a deep red. If you prefer a kick, you may want to order yours the medium spicy. I would recommend ordering rice as your side rather than noodles because most of them have noodles in them already. The food was yummy! The service was great! The restaurant was clean! I come here way too often. I'm pretty sure that if I checked in every time I came to eat here, I'd be one of the top regulars. It's one of the only hot pot places in this area, but the broth--especially in the Taiwanese hot pot bowl--is better than many I've had even in Southern California. The quality of the meat is hit or miss sometimes, but I think that's just part of the nature of hot pot. Service is also not bad; they usually keep our cups full and make sure we have enough broth. The only thing that happens sometimes is that they forget to put certain things in the pot, so I have to specifically ask for them (e.g., several times they have forgotten to put tempura in my pot). However, every time I notify the servers when this happens, they quickly bring the missing items--and usually a little extra--so this is not a big deal. Ive always had great experiences at all Tasty Pots including this one. Great decor/ambiance with attentive employees always going around with more water or soup broth ! I always get #1 which is the Beef Hot Soup, but did try the Curry Hot Soup the other day. I definitely like the broth base for the beef more, but if you want that hint of curry smell/flavor, the curry hot soup isnt bad ! It does have a few different ingredients such as egg, fish balls, and more fish cake I believe. The meat is always soft and doesn't have that cardboardy/dry feeling when you chew into it ! I also really like the meatballs at Tasty Pots ! You're also able to decide what spicyness level you'd like. I normally go for medium and I'm one who can handle spicy foods because spicy has sometimes been too much since the soup itself is super hot ! I love their three dipping sauces that I mix all together ! Sorry I dont know the specifics of each sauce, but it includes a spicy oil, another with bits of garlic in it, and a more ponzu based looking sauce. I swear everytime I come here, as I'm eating, there's always more meat to be found in my own personal hotpot bowl ! You literally get so much food in what appears to be a small little pot, but don't let it fool you ! Pro: Cheesy Milk Pot portions no wait Con: Meat quality I have been to both Tasty pot (multiple locations) and Boiling point (multiple locations) many times. To compare the two, Tasty pot was more filling to me, more stuff in the pot. However, this time, the meat was really thick, which is not how I like my hotpot meat. I GOT THE WORST FOOD POISONING OF MY LIFE AND WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR 4 DAYS AND I'M PREGNANT!!! I went here Tuesday evening and ordered the beef hotpot and began eating around 6 or 7 pm. By 2-3 am I was VOMITING AND having LIQUID DIARRHEA every 30 minutes. It didn't stop until I had nothing left in my body and I was so dehydrated and running a fever (over 101) I had to be transported to the hospital because it put my baby at risk!! At first the doctors didn't know what was wrong with me and I was too out of it to give them any idea so they ran all the tests on my blood work. Long story short, a GASTROENTEROLOGIST, because the other doctors pulled her for her specialty, told me I had food poisoning from most likely the CLAMS that were in the soup I ate. Had to come try Tasty Pot after all of my coworkers came without me since I was working an infosession that day. Came during spring break so was immediately seated. The restaurant is actually quite spacious compared to what you would think walking by on Kittredge. I sat with my back to the door which I would later learn was not the best idea since the smoke went towards me. Decided on the lamb tasty pot: Nappa, lamb, fish cake, enoki mushroom, pork blood rice cake, meat ball (like the ones in pho), clams, fried tofu skin, imitation crab meat, firm tofu and a few other ingredients that escape me. My server asked if I wanted rice or noodles (vermicelli) and I opted for the noodles. I waited about 8 or so minutes before he came back with my pot of yummy goodness and adjusted the flame temperature for me. Then I chowed down! The flavor was perfect. I had asked for mild and it was mild but extremely flavorful. I waited a couple minutes and ate some of the items in the bowl before I stuffed the noodles under everything to properly cook. The pork blood rice cake was a bit interesting as it almost tasted like sweet rice but not quite. The lamb was tender and well portioned. COVID review - Came here to get takeout because I was craving some hot pot and didn't have the highest expectations since hot pot for takeout isn't always the best. However, I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the beef hot soup and the seafood lobster hot soup and both were exactly how it's like when eating in person. Two sauces each were given to us and the vermicelli was in another container. It was the exact same as eating it in the restaurant with the only difference being the temperature. Usually there is a fire at the bottom of the pot so that the food is always hot and boiling but we weren't able to replicate the same experience at home so the food got colder faster (which is expected). The flavor is MUCH stronger than other broth options I would say. I was actually a bit disappointed that the stinky tofu wasn't anything special. To me it tasted like regular firm tofu. However the broth was amazing. Of all the hot pot spots I've been to, I must say that tasty pot tops all in the broth department. Just a heads up that they only have about 1-3 pieces of any item they say is in he Hotpot, so if there's something in particular you really like, you should just order an extra side of it. Overall I would say service is friendly. We were on the wait list and a waitress let us preorder and kept us updated on the wait time. But she told us like 3 times they were cleaning a table for us....cleaning a table for 20 min. All the other staff frequently walked around with water or broth to refill which is nice. Unfortunately I dropped my chopsticks and asked for another pair twice but never got it so I had to suffice with my spoon. I ordered the curry hot pot. It would be better if they got bowls with more depth because they have a lot of ingredients but not enough broth to cook it. Then when you ask for more broth it dilutes the original flavor. Ordering additional sides would need more broth refills to cook it. My roommate saw that mine was diluted and didn't want to refill hers, but again there wasn't enough broth anyhow and her shrimps were left mostly raw so she had to get the refill. I visited this location for the first time during Friday lunch. In my opinion, it would be best to take public transportation or uber to it. Parking is very limited and it takes a while to find parking. My boyfriend and I opted to park in a residential neighborhood and walked to Tasty Pot. When I walked into the restaurant, I loved how the design of the restaurant is quite new and the chairs were definitely comfortable. I liked how they gave ice tea instead of water. (It is one of the few restaurants that give out free teas). I ordered the beef soup with mild. If you cannot handle spicy food, I recommend not to add spice to it. For me, I know I can't handle spicy food, but went for mild instead. I was struggling to eat it because it was too spicy for me, but ordered it anyways to have more flavor. They also add more soup if you would like some. If it is too spicy, just ask for more soup. The portion was definitely filling and left me feeling full. Visited Tasty Pot around 1:30pm on a Sunday and our table of 2 was seated immediately (first time here with no wait time!!). My friend and I both ordered the Lamb Hot Soup- mine with no spice, my friend's with mild spice, and both with sides of rice. It's what I always get when I go because I feel like it can do no wrong. The soups come with so many different ingredients that complement each other perfectly. I get the soup with no spice because I've tried the mild before and with my inability to handle the spicy, even the mild is too much for me. My friend loves it as mild though because she says it has just the right amount of kick, but she says medium spice may be too spicy for some people. Even with no spice however, the hot pot was delicious and extremely filling. The service was also superb- they have sauces on the side and I accidentally filled my sauce dish with one of the spicier ones so our waiter got me a new dish right away and offered to refill my broth in case I got any spicy sauce in it. I love hot pot and am so glad there is a tasty pot in Berkeley. Though tasty pot is not my favorite Taiwanese hot pot chain, it definitely is my top 5. My favorite pot is the curry pot which comes with pork, Napa cabbage, fried fish balls, regular fish balls, raw egg and a bunch of other veggies/tofu. I think it's the most flavorful out of the regular sized soups. I've also tried the beef hot pot and enjoy it but like the curry pot more. I always order my pot mild because medium is slightly too spicy for me.. maybe it's also because the soup is boiling so the temperature heightens the spiciness. As for the sauces I like the mix the bean paste sauce with the garlic soy. Warning: the chili oil is very spicy so just a little goes a long way. Also if you can, come here for lunch! I couldn't wait until the Elite event and I'm so glad I didn't. You don't want a taste. You want a whole flavorful, spicy bowl to yourself. First, the staff is ridiculously friendly. My server and I bonded over #9. Being from Boston, when I think 'hot pot' I think table-style where everyone dips into one pot. This was unique and I like it better. The medium spicy actually is spicy and the server saved me from a scorched butt by telling me so. You can always add heat with the chili oil on the side. Do NOT sleep on the soybean based red sauce combined with the garlic oil. Every delish morsel needs a little of that love. What's in the bowl, you ask? Goodness! You might say hot pot is pho on steroids. #9 spicy seafood filled with all manner of seafood and other stuff like pork intestine (my fave) and pork blood (I'll skip next time).
