I like tasty pot overall. This location is not the best but it's decent enough to go keep eating there. Service can be a bit on the slow end and the rice is blown out sometimes. I went yesterday and the service was a lot better than previous months. read more

Tasty Pot! One of my favorite hot pot places. I usually get the lamb or cheesy milk pots. It is "tasty" all the time. In addition, my parents love tasty pot as well especially my mom. She's doesn't eat that much soup and noodles, but she's able to devour the beef pot all the time. Servers are nice too! read more

I love the hotpot here and the extra meat is a great add on (worth it). Service is quite slow and the room feels a bit dank (I guess because of all the water evaporating) read more

I love eating hot pot on a cold day because the spicy broth warms me up. This is also a really convenient place because it's near Berkeley and it's affordable. The broth here is really flavorful and some of the best I've had. I got the Cheesy Milk Hot Soup because milky broth is actually really popular in Taiwan and this place is supposed to be a Taiwanese hotpot restaurant. I got it with a medium amount of spice but it wasn't spicy at all (I have a high spice tolerance). It's good to go lower on the spice because you can always add more with the free hot chili oil. The broth was very creamy but wasn't oily or heavy at all. It had a nice richness and complemented the meat and vegetables very well. Milky soup sounds weird, but you should try it because it's delicious. My only complaint with this place is that they don't give you much meat. Whenever I eat hot pot, I always eat a bunch of meat, but this place only gives you about 6 slices. read more

Nestled in a side street if you see a line outside, you've arrived. As you peer through the window you can see that the place is packed. My parents used to tell me if a restaurant is busy and full of the type of food clientele, it can pretty much guarantee it's good and authentic. Three of us had different hot pots: lamb, beef and Taiwanese. We also had 3 different milk teas: Hokkaido, Sweet Milk and matcha rose milk tea. We all chose custard over boba. I really enjoyed my matcha rose drink / it was refreshingly sweet I was tempted to order one for the road. Water is refilled and each person gets their own hot pot. You can even see the flames under the pot, My medium spice was pretty salty and chili pepper hot. The ingredients stayed hot til the end. read more

My friend and I were craving hot pot and I had not tried this kind of hot pot before. She ordered the Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup and I ordered the Seafood Lobster Hot Soup, as I'm pescatarian and love lobster. Both dishes were incredibly delicious - the soup had a lovely kick to it and there were so many ingredients, it was like digging for treasure! My seafood soup was wonderful, with clams, mussels, lobster, fish balls and many many other hidden gems. Plus, there were a lot of veggies so even after eating a full bowl, you didn't feel heavy at all. The portions are super generous and especially in a colder day, you feel really warm and cozy. Delicious hotpot - the best I've had in the Bay Area!!! Really recommend!!! read more

I'm ready to sever the bridge here. It's not the constant price hike. It's not even the ever-imbalanced pot cradle that shakes like cardi b's ass. It's not the pretty decent taste. It's the issue with the protocol and service, the utter lack of effort and care by the management. Why would you swiftly walk up and water down my soup UNSOLICITED? I ordered a spicy pot for a reason, but someone had to pour mild broth to the brim, turning it into chicken stock. My pot was not even more than half way done, it wasn't like I drank up all the soup base so that the ingredients would burn and stick to the pot. I understand the constant churn of employees and the seasonal nature of Berkeley dining scene, I don't mind occasional rudeness and being "curt" but seriously wtf? Please get your stuff together. Taste: 4.5 Value: 4 Service: good Came by during the week of Christmas and didn't hit any lines - thanks college kids for all being on break, so that we could enjoy the warm goodness of hot pot without the wait! I got the lamb soup, which was delicious. I asked for mild spice level, and it was tolerable for me. The vegetables inside the pot are always fresh and the meat is good - nothing special as it's not really marinated or seasoned and the tenderness is really determined by how long you leave it in the pot before you eat it - it's not A5 beef or anything. One thing I will note is that they give you a really large bowl of rice if you order rice but only a very small amount of vermicelli if you get that as your carb of choice. I wish they would provide more noodles! read more

So happy Tasty Pot opened up in Berkeley! We made a reservation for 6 during lunch. It was PACKED. The tables are really close to each other and the space is kinda tight. They didn't have a big table for the 6 of us so we ended up squeezing everyone at our table meant for 4. It worked fine! I did read up on their spice level before I ordered my food. I got the mild beef hotpot with rice. It was just the right amount of spice. I also used all 3 of their sauces that they offer on the table to dip your meat. Overall, my co-workers enjoyed their meal and everyone left full and enjoyed the experience of their individual hot pot! read more

Come here during lunch for the same meal at a cheaper price plus get a free basic tea drink. I came for dinner and it was like most other individual hot pot places. Very filling and flavorful. I got the beef hot pot with very spicy. I like spicy foods, but it still wasn't that spicy. So maybe go even more spicy if you like spicy. Not advertised but they have a rewards program on five star! So don't forget to ask for it at the end of your meal! read more

#1 Beef, Medium Spicy, with rice! #1 Beef, Medium Spicy, with rice! Can you tell which of the hot pots are my favorite at Tasty Pot? I've been to Tasty Pot a number of times and seem to always default to #1 beef. I'd say it's one of their better hot pots. I've had a few others, which were decent but nothing to write home about. One of the hot pots I didn't like was the curry flavored one - it was a bit bland for my taste. Usually when I come here, I also order a side of the spicy stinky tofu, which is nomnom good if you care for some of that "stank" (which I absolutely love!). The side "sauces" are also very good- in particular, the fermented bean sauce. This sauce mixed with their sweetened soy, with a dab of chili oil makes the best dipping sauce for hotpot! There is usually a wait for dinner, especially when it's cold and wintery outside. One of the nice things about Tasty Pot is that they take your order while you wait in line - that way when you sit, the food is just about ready. This is likely why the wait time is pretty short (~30 min during prime dinner times). Of note, dinner is more expensive than lunch. Also, parking is metered all around the area (meaning most surrounding parking is not free until after 6pm). Service here is bare bones - once you're seated and get your food, the service pretty much ends at that point. So if you need more broth, water, or napkins, you'll need to ask for it periodically. Tasty Pot has become one of my staples. I used to not like individual hot pots, but it's definitely grown on me (thanks to Tasty Pot!). I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Returning to Berkeley after a few years and had to come have tasty pot again. This was my favorite meal as a student at Cal. Pretty solid personal hot pot place. I love the flexibility of choice here. I've eaten at the tasty pot in Seattle and this place is about on par (I think the portions are slightly bigger in the Seattle location from my memory). The taste is still on point and it's still very filling! They have a wide variety of veggies/meats and don't skimp out on any of the ingredients. They only have 3 condiments for sauces but are all quite good. Worth a stop for some warm soup! Come hungry :) read more

Tasty Pot - Taiwanese Near Me - Berkeley, California

While not my favorite personal hot pot place, this place is a good alternative for around the Berkeley. The place is somewhat small with maybe like eight or so tables that seat two people and the majority of the larger four people and more tables on the second (elevated floor). One thing I liked was that they will have your table get set up and when they noted that will call your table so you can order. This helps so that by the time your table is seated the food can arrive in a timely manner. For my larger group of six people, the time between signing my name on the sheet til getting our food was a little less than 30 minutes with roughly four other tables of 4 - 6 ahead of us. Food-wise the meal is decent, nothing stand out but similar to the Tasty Pot in San Diego they give a lot but majority of that is actually napa cabbage and your general toppings above. I kind of wished they would give more meat cause for the price it is sufficient to get full but most of your meal is like an ounce or so of pork and remainder is napa cabbage. Soup broth is also a little bland, but if you order something with a mild or above there's a nice kick from the spice. I think for most people mild will be sufficient and medium is hotter than most can handle. It's weird there's no real finer grain for spice levels. Overall, it's a decent place but my review is more of a 3.5 star location. It has potential to be better but soup is somewhat bland and toppings are majority cabbage with some meat and fish balls here and there. Service is good though and they really speed up the ordering process so you're not left waiting which is appreciated. read more

Food is pretty good and good value with a good variety of ingredients good service with free complimentary tea

It's a good option for a warm dinner, but nothing impressive. The pot has a good mix of veggies and protein, but I'm not a big fan of any fake meat/seafood balls, which are normally a critical ingredient of any hot pot, so I don't have much complain here. It's very friendly that I can pick the spicy level, but I wish I could add spice myself since spicy standards vary a lot from different restaurants. read more

Review #148 - 2019 From my last experience here, I wasn't planning on returning to this location; but since it was my nephew's birthday and he was starving, I decided that I'd give them another chance. We showed up around 7:15 PM & were able to get a table for six pretty much immediately. We got to sit at the top floor, which actually felt nicer than the bottom floor for some odd reason. My niece and I shared the Taiwanese supreme spicy hot pot in medium & we both really enjoyed it. It was the perfect amount of food for us since we still had a little bit of food left after we were both full. My son got the Sichuan flavor hot pot, which he said made his nose tingly so he ended up switching up with my nephew who ordered the Taiwanese supreme as well. I actually tasted the Sichuan broth--it was pretty tasty & the spice didn't bother me at all so I guess my son might have an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in this broth. My brother wasn't hungry so he ended up sitting there just watching us eat, but he has had Tasty Pot before so he knows what it tastes like. I ordered an old plum & lemon drink, which I was expecting it to taste somewhat like the ones in Taiwan or at Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks, but I was sorely disappointed because it tasted like water and some weird artificial flavor that tasted nothing like what I was expecting, so I just left it there after one sip. read more

The food here is around 16 dollars per person. It's so good for students. The service was good, and the food is tasty.

Been here twice in my life, and I will definitely come again, I got the beef hot pot and my girlfriend got the miso, the miso had little flavor for the broth, and each soup is loaded! So much going on, so much random flavors of meat, seafood, veggies, and noodles! I highly recommend the sauces there, ask because they come separately, but it's delicious! read more

Servers were quick and attentive during our meal which was very appreciated! Free tea during lunch time and they went around filling water and broth. I got the sichuan hot pot and it had a lot in it. It was pretty spicy and you can customize it to be more or less. I was satisfied with the fillings, there were various mushrooms, veggies, tofus, etc. We went on a Friday afternoon close to lunch time, but surprisingly it wasn't too full. They have an upper floor for seating as well. If it gets full, I can tell it would be loud though since the store isn't really spacious, but overall good experience and food. read more

My friends are big hot pot fans, so we came to Tasty Pot. I liked the variety of dishes they had to select from. I ordered the Japanese miso one. Loved the mild broth with the pork and variety of seafood. There seemed to already be thick noodles in it so next time I would get a side of rice instead of vermicelli. Friends had the beef hot pot. And they enjoyed theirs. They also had a side of lamb and loved that. read more

It's winter break for UC Berkeley students, so I crossed my fingers and hoped the wait wasn't very long. Brought a friend here for the first time and I have to say he thoroughly enjoyed every bite of food. I got a larger pot and my only complain is that it never reached a full boil while on the table before the fire went out, and it seemed like my veggies weren't as cooked as I like. But overall, i had a big hot bowl of great soup for dinner. read more

Taste: 4 Presentation: 4 Customer service: 4 Our hotpot took forever to come out, we waited a while for it. My beef hotpot was good, really happy that it has more meat than boiling point. My friends asked for hot pepper paste which they usually have it, but they didn't serve it this time around, only hot pepper oil. And we found a piece of short hair towards the end of our meal, complaint to a server and they gave us a complimentary ice cream macaroon. I recommend their kitchen staff to wear hairnets. Their customer service was good, very attentive to customers' requests. read more

Came here on a Wednesday Evening and there was a 15 minute wait. Not bad at all, because while I was waiting, the server or hostess gave us the menu to take a look. After looking over the menu and waiting for the table, someone came by and asked if we were ready to order? I was a little puzzled, but he said, if you were ready, I can place your order in because your table is almost ready. My eyes lit up because I never had a restaurant let you order before you get to sit down. When we did get called, our hot pot came out 5 minutes later. It was perfect because we didn't have to wait long and mind you I'm pregnant and hungry. We ordered the tawainese hot pot with medium spicy, add fish roe balls and udon noodles. We had one hot pot to share because I knew I was not going to be able to finish it. Boy was our right because there was two of us and we struggled to finish. The spice was perfect, and I couldn't enjoy the hot pot any other way. The flavor was delicious and the amount of seafood was abundant. It also came with a side of vermicelli noodle or rice. Keep in mind that if your hot pot runs out of soup broth, they will come by and ask you if you want more. I can't wait to come back! read more

Food: The portions are huge, so if you have a small appetite, it might be wise to share your food. But, you could also just get your left overs to-go, because why not have more later? I've gotten both the beef and lamb hotpot. Usually, I like beef more than lamb, but the lamb tasted a lot better. You can choose the spice level for your soup. I opted for medium, which I think was a good choice because I tried my friend's spicy soup, and could not handle the heat. Price: Lunch is $2-3 cheaper for the same thing, plus you get a free iced tea. Ambiance: Busy busy place. It's almost always packed with a long line. The inside is pretty modern and neat. However, the chairs and tables are a tight squeeze. Shout out to one of the servers, Luna. She was super patient and accommodating when I was still waiting for my friend to arrive. TL;DR Solid hot pot place, will have to wait long during the dinner rush 6:30-8. read more

Fav hotpot spot! So yummerssss! Perf for a cold night! My friends and I love to come here to get our hotpot fix!

If it's a cold and windy day, this place is easily one of my top picks. In the two times that I've been here, I've gotten the beef hot soup. It's got plenty of stuffing, a generous amount of soup (that you can ask to top up) and no MSG (because I didn't feel thirsty afterward). The broth of this soup is definitely chinese which fits well with the meat. I say this because the miso hot pot has a very different soup base which is more light and more japanese-like? They also offer this green tea drink as the complimentary tea when you sit down which I really like. No other place offers this kind of sweet green tea as the accompanying drink to a meal which is nice. read more

Nothing as filling and satisfying as a good hot pot restaurant! So when we were able to come here with a fairly large group for dinner after walking from the nearby Berkeley Public Library, I was thrilled. Ordered the Japanese Miso hot soup and it was a wonderful mix of udon noodles with cabbage, crab legs, tofu, corn, seaweed, pork slices, and other stuff. I like my hot pot to not be overbearingly hot because then I can't really eat anything. So, there's a metal slider at the base of your portable stove so that if you move the slider to the right, it will cover the flame and lower the temperature of your hot pot. Going through the meal took a workman's effort because it was such a large bowl that I didn't even bother eating any of the rice! read more

5/5 great food and service. This is our go-to spot, anyone who enjoys hotpot should give this a try.

Tasty Pot is a solid choice if you're craving hotpot but are only eating with one or two people OR you all have different food preferences/restrictions. While there is a bit of a wait to get in, the food comes out soon after you order. The serving portions, even for the regular sized options, are quite generous -- I always leave full! I most recently tried the Thai Flavor Hot Soup and the Japanese Miso. Both were good choices! If I could give it a more accurate star rating, it would be ~4.11. Best thing about this place is the diverse selection of stuff they put in your pot. Even though it may not be very much in quantity (the pots themselves are actually pretty shallow but they pile it up to make it look like a lot), there are actually a lot of different tasty things including the pork blood cake in the Lamp Pot which is my go-to, but this place definitely doesn't beat a home-made hot pot with family. I would say that their hot pot is more of a sampler of many different things, and they can either be really generous with, or skimp out on the meat. Service is okay, the last time I went there were a couple rude male servers. I usually get noodles on the side but others prefer rice. Lamb and Beef Hot Pots are pretty good and it's a dollar cheaper for lunch. Lunch is also good because you get the free iced sweet tea with it but not during dinner. I've also had the Kim Chi and Curry hot pots and I didn't like them as much, so would definitely recommend Lamb as #1 or Beef if you don't like the Lamb. Tip: you can turn off the heat if you feel like your soup is boiling away, but you can also ask them to add more soup to your bowl. Medium Spicy level was pretty spicy for me to be honest, so I usually go mild or not at all. Place is generally pretty crowded on weekday lunches but they are good about small groups and helping you place your order before you go in. read more
