Entering with anticipation and wonder on the taste because my sisters love this place, I am amazed by the presentation on the serving ingredients of the hot pot in metal sized bowls that is on top of a concealed wooden container and flaming fire to boil it up from the bottom! The fire lasts throughout the entirety of the munching of the meal and waiter comes by on refilling it with broth, if wanted. My first try of this kind of ordeal was in LA, Boiling Point on a hot day, if I remember correctly. I don't know why we opted for that on a hot day in LA. They give you complimentary iced tea for the sake of needing it to cool down after taking bites of items from your hot pot. It's a great combo and I like how they provide that instead of ordering it from the menu. They have delightful themed hot pots to choose from. From American style, Japanese miso broth based and to Thai soup, one can not go wrong with any of the hot pots! I like my gamey lamb pieces and other filled toppings to the whole ordeal. One can choose how spicy or neutral your broth wants to be. You can make your own sauce on the side for dipping the hot pot food items while slurping the soup away! It consists of garlic, hot sauce based and a quite thick paste to have everything come together in one salivating way! Came to Tasty Pot for dinner with some friends and had a great time! I ordered the Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup. It was so full of flavors and spices I couldn't stop eating it! I LOVE spicy food and as the peppers continued to boil the spices were released. I really enjoyed my meal it wasn't too spicy (I have a high tolerance), and offered many other flavors thanks to the meats! I also ordered a Milk Creme Black Tea that was tasty. One of my friends ordered the Seafood Lobster Hot Soup. They liked the seafood flavor and the different types of veggies. Another friend had the Beef Hot Soup. While they did have trouble with the burner under their soup being too high and boiling out all of their broth they did enjoy the flavors of the soup. While not ideal for a romantic dinner date, this place is casual yet intimate enough for catching up with friends or getting to know a date! The interior is mildly crowded and noisy, but comfortable. Service is really quick and efficient, which I appreciated. To seat you more quickly, they may give you menus to peruse while you wait outside, and by the time you get seated your food comes quickly! It's the issue with the protocol and service, the utter lack of effort and care by the management. Why would you swiftly walk up and water down my soup UNSOLICITED? I ordered a spicy pot for a reason, but someone had to pour mild broth to the brim, turning it into chicken stock. My pot was not even more than half way done, it wasn't like I drank up all the soup base so that the ingredients would burn and stick to the pot. I understand the constant churn of employees and the seasonal nature of Berkeley dining scene, I don't mind occasional rudeness and being "curt" but seriously wtf? Please get your stuff together. I love eating hot pot on a cold day because the spicy broth warms me up. This is also a really convenient place because it's near Berkeley and it's affordable. The broth here is really flavorful and some of the best I've had. I got the Cheesy Milk Hot Soup because milky broth is actually really popular in Taiwan and this place is supposed to be a Taiwanese hotpot restaurant. I got it with a medium amount of spice but it wasn't spicy at all (I have a high spice tolerance). It's good to go lower on the spice because you can always add more with the free hot chili oil. The broth was very creamy but wasn't oily or heavy at all. It had a nice richness and complemented the meat and vegetables very well. Milky soup sounds weird, but you should try it because it's delicious. My only complaint with this place is that they don't give you much meat. Whenever I eat hot pot, I always eat a bunch of meat, but this place only gives you about 6 slices. read more

Nestled in a side street if you see a line outside, you've arrived. As you peer through the window you can see that the place is packed. My parents used to tell me if a restaurant is busy and full of the type of food clientele, it can pretty much guarantee it's good and authentic. Three of us had different hot pots: lamb, beef and Taiwanese. We also had 3 different milk teas: Hokkaido, Sweet Milk and matcha rose milk tea. We all chose custard over boba. I really enjoyed my matcha rose drink / it was refreshingly sweet I was tempted to order one for the road. Water is refilled and each person gets their own hot pot. She ordered the Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup and I ordered the Seafood Lobster Hot Soup, as I'm pescatarian and love lobster. Both dishes were incredibly delicious - the soup had a lovely kick to it and there were so many ingredients, it was like digging for treasure! My seafood soup was wonderful, with clams, mussels, lobster, fish balls and many many other hidden gems. I got the lamb soup, which was delicious. I asked for mild spice level, and it was tolerable for me. The vegetables inside the pot are always fresh and the meat is good - nothing special as it's not really marinated or seasoned and the tenderness is really determined by how long you leave it in the pot before you eat it - it's not A5 beef or anything. One thing I will note is that they give you a really large bowl of rice if you order rice but only a very small amount of vermicelli if you get that as your carb of choice. So happy Tasty Pot opened up in Berkeley! We made a reservation for 6 during lunch. It was PACKED. The tables are really close to each other and the space is kinda tight. They didn't have a big table for the 6 of us so we ended up squeezing everyone at our table meant for 4. It worked fine! I did read up on their spice level before I ordered my food. I got the mild beef hotpot with rice. It was just the right amount of spice. I also used all 3 of their sauces that they offer on the table to dip your meat. I got the beef hot pot with very spicy. I like spicy foods, but it still wasn't that spicy. So maybe go even more spicy if you like spicy. Not advertised but they have a rewards program on five star! #1 Beef, Medium Spicy, with rice! #1 Beef, Medium Spicy, with rice! Can you tell which of the hot pots are my favorite at Tasty Pot? I've been to Tasty Pot a number of times and seem to always default to #1 beef. I'd say it's one of their better hot pots. I've had a few others, which were decent but nothing to write home about. One of the hot pots I didn't like was the curry flavored one - it was a bit bland for my taste. Usually when I come here, I also order a side of the spicy stinky tofu, which is nomnom good if you care for some of that "stank" (which I absolutely love!). The side "sauces" are also very good- in particular, the fermented bean sauce. This sauce mixed with their sweetened soy, with a dab of chili oil makes the best dipping sauce for hotpot! There is usually a wait for dinner, especially when it's cold and wintery outside. One of the nice things about Tasty Pot is that they take your order while you wait in line - that way when you sit, the food is just about ready. This is likely why the wait time is pretty short (~30 min during prime dinner times). Of note, dinner is more expensive than lunch. Also, parking is metered all around the area (meaning most surrounding parking is not free until after 6pm). Service here is bare bones - once you're seated and get your food, the service pretty much ends at that point. So if you need more broth, water, or napkins, you'll need to ask for it periodically. Tasty Pot has become one of my staples. I used to not like individual hot pots, but it's definitely grown on me (thanks to Tasty Pot!). I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Pretty solid personal hot pot place. I love the flexibility of choice here. I've eaten at the tasty pot in Seattle and this place is about on par (I think the portions are slightly bigger in the Seattle location from my memory). The taste is still on point and it's still very filling! They have a wide variety of veggies/meats and don't skimp out on any of the ingredients.
