Tasty Pot is delicious! We try to make our way here regularly. Pros: Most of the time it's delicious. 100% of the time service is excellent even when it's crazy busy, which is most of the time. Cons: Once in a blue moon the spice level is waaay off from what you asked for and smoke will come out of your ears. There is almost always a wait but worth the wait in my opinion. Try thr chrysanthemum tea!!! read more

Don't drink the milk tea... First time at the Berkeley location and the food itself is around the same as the one in Newark. I came with 9 other friends here on a Friday night and all I can say is come early, this place fills up fast because there is not a lot of seating. We ordered 3 pots for 6 people, which is definitely plenty especially if you plan to get their free refills (pork broth?). 1. Seafood Fillet Hot Pot ($18.99) - What they mean by seafood is one crab leg and some clam shells. 2. Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Pot ($16.99) - The better of the 3. We opted for less spicy which turned out to be the perfect amount and the "sour" level was spot on. Pretty authentic if you ask me. 3. Lamb Hot Pot ($13.99) - You could really taste the gamey-ness of the entire dish which, for me, I liked. Broth overall is amazing. 4. Hokkaido Milk Tea ($4.50) - DON'T DRINK THIS. First of all it tastes extremely watered down and the "milk" or whatever it is seemed expired. All my friends who drank this got a stomach ache afterwards, so disgusting. I recommend coming here for lunch because it is the same amount of food for a lower price. Don't drink the milk tea :( read more

Quick Summary: - Lots of seats, more in the back - Plenty portions for a glutton - The presentation is cute and unique - Seconds for broth is free - Fast service (from ordering to requesting things) - Eating style is fast too - Spice levels are pack a punch, strong. (has low spice tolerance) - Japanese miso has the udon noodles I haven't eaten too many hot pot dishes, but I would like to place this in the top tier. It scored high points in my category: portions, taste, and service. I came into the restaurant at a 45% hunger, and I left with around 98% full! For those who eat light, I suggest to share the "larger" sized pot with someone else, or eat the smallest sized pot. I'm not exactly sure if customers are allowed to take home leftovers. I didn't see anyone around me do that either. The ordering style is to pick a pot, choose between rice or vermicelli noodles. I ordered the vermicelli noodles because I prefer to eat pot dishes without rice. Since it was our first time there, I struggled to pick which dish to eat, so it took me longer to decide. It was nice, however, that the staff came by three times to see if we have decided on what to eat. They were quick when we asked for a plate to put in the clam, crab, and shrimp shells, and for broth seconds. I ordered the Kimchi Dumpling hot pot with a mild spice level. My family members, who decided to share a pot, ordered the Japanese miso (none for the spice). I should've ordered none spice level too because of my low spice tolerance, but the spice factor was strong! I had one coughing sessions and near the end, when vegetables that wrap the spicy oil around, got me drinking water after every bite. I'm planning to come next time, so that part, I will remember to do. Both broths were delicious, and the dashi was cooked very well. I wonder if it was because of the many fish and mushrooms that were cooked in the pot, but I was still hungry, I would've drank the broth. If I were to choose, I loved the miso soup more because - I like miso soup. Each pot contained a lot of meat, fish, shrimp, clam, tofu, age, mushrooms, and vegetables. The meat was cut thinly, so it cooked very well and required almost no chewing. I enjoyed eating each topping, and I feel that's the fun part about pot dishes. I did notice that the pot was a unique experience and different from the previous pot dishes we've eaten. It used a raised stove where the staff lit a fire underneath it. Unlike the others, the fire gradually weakened and extinguished. The benefits of this were that 1. it extinguished around the time when I was almost done and 2. it doesn't constantly cook and raise the salt content. However, I am a slow eater, so the fire went out while there was still 6/8 left - but that also meant I was able to eat the food directly from the pot. I really really liked Tasty Pot, and if we ever come by Berkeley again on a cold chilly night, I would come back and try their other dishes. read more

Tasty Pot is currently the only hot pot restaurant in Berkeley and I eat here every 1-3 months, takeout during Covid, because I'm a hot pot fiend. Compared to other hot pot restaurants I've been to, the broth here isn't as savory and the meat isn't sliced as thinly and is usually full of tough cuts. I wish the meat were higher quality and the additional toppings were more affordable. The portions as-is are good but sometimes I'm in the mood for some fish ball with roe or tendon and I don't want to pay $4-5 for it when I can spend $13 to get a whole extra pot. It doesn't feel worthwhile to pay for additional toppings when they cost 30-40% of a whole order. During pre-covid dine-in service, you would always get a free iced tea with your lunch which was nice. The tea was delicious and I'm sad it's not included with takeout lunches. However, they give a free soda with any takeout orders purchased through UberEats which is very nice of them! The turnaround and service is always speedy too. Pre-covid there would always be lines out the door but once you sat down, your food arrived very quickly. Overall, I keep coming back because I love hot pot and the meals here satiate my occasional craving, but I don't know if I'd return if new hot pot restaurants opened in the area. read more

Always love going to Tasty Pot to grab a meal or two (since each meal is usually big enough for two people). But taking it to go vs dining in can be little bit different than other restaurants. When you dine in, you can have the pot heated at all times and keep the food warm right above the portable stove. Also, there are unlimited refills on the broth and dipping sauces while to-go don't have this perks. Yet they charge about the same price. Nevertheless, their food is bomb! Two thumbs up for me. My favorite dishes are the Taiwanese pot and the Beef pot. read more

Truc Tran's Recommendation: -The Lamb Hot Soup! For sharing with just you and you only. Great place in the downtown Berkeley area and a great stop near the Bart Station as well! The soup was just right with a good flavor profile, accompanied by simple favorites in any standard hot pot place such as fishcake, imitation crab, hella cabbage, & enoki. Accompanied rice or vermicelli! Complimentary green tea is provided(no free refills), & the customer service was pretty great. Personally, medium spicy was not what I'd consider medium, so take it up a level if you feel adventurous! Great place to stop by to warm your withered heart, or if your boo is hangry! read more

I went here on a Sunday at about 5:45pm with 4 other friends. They were able to seat us right away and we got there right before more people showed up. I was really looking forward to hot pot but was very disappointed. I got the healthy veggie hot soup ($13), but I SPECIFICALLY asked for nothing spicy. However, they brought it for me and it had spice all over it. I asked for a new one, and they reluctantly took it back to make me a new one. When they brought this one out, it literally tasted like boiled water with some raw veggies in it. The broth literally had no flavor. I thought maybe it's because I got veggies instead of a meat, but I had tasted the broth of someone who got the Beef Hot Soup, and it tasted the same but with some added spiciness. Also, a few of the beef hot pots looked like it could use a bit more meat. For the price, the portion size was decent, but I would probably not come here again. read more

Entering with anticipation and wonder on the taste because my sisters love this place, I am amazed by the presentation on the serving ingredients of the hot pot in metal sized bowls that is on top of a concealed wooden container and flaming fire to boil it up from the bottom! The fire lasts throughout the entirety of the munching of the meal and waiter comes by on refilling it with broth, if wanted. My first try of this kind of ordeal was in LA, Boiling Point on a hot day, if I remember correctly. I don't know why we opted for that on a hot day in LA. They give you complimentary iced tea for the sake of needing it to cool down after taking bites of items from your hot pot. It's a great combo and I like how they provide that instead of ordering it from the menu. They have delightful themed hot pots to choose from. From American style, Japanese miso broth based and to Thai soup, one can not go wrong with any of the hot pots! I like my gamey lamb pieces and other filled toppings to the whole ordeal. One can choose how spicy or neutral your broth wants to be. You can make your own sauce on the side for dipping the hot pot food items while slurping the soup away! It consists of garlic, hot sauce based and a quite thick paste to have everything come together in one salivating way! From the concept to the quality of the food, ambiance and complimenting iced tea, I was overly satisfied with everything! It's especially great on a cold, foggy, and rainy day. Tasty pot, indeed. Well named! read more

8/10! I would totally recommend this place for soup lovers! Overall I would say that the environment was okay, I think that they would do some upgrades if they wanted to be more modern but it's not needed since the food speaks for itself. Really good place for those who don't want to interact much with staff. They refill your soup base, and there are some add ons but you can't customize your soup pot, which is the biggest complaint I have about this place. I feel wasteful because of this because you can't pick and choose the veggies and topping you want . Could benefit from having more sauce and homemade drinks. Overall worth checking out and going out with friends. read more

Calling all spice-lovers! The food here is actually spicy. Very spicy in fact if you order the highest level. Of course you can also order medium or no spice at all and the soup is still amazing. The portions are very generous and everything in the soup is great. For those that don't know, it's an individual hot pot place so the food comes mostly cooked, and each person's bowl comes with a wooden fire stove below so the soup can be kept warm and each individual can, in a way, control how their food is cooked (medium rare or well done). read more

Tasty pot has a great casual ambience and quick service for anyone craving hot pot in the berkeley area. While not ideal for a romantic dinner date, this place is casual yet intimate enough for catching up with friends or getting to know a date! The interior is mildly crowded and noisy, but comfortable. Service is really quick and efficient, which I appreciated. To seat you more quickly, they may give you menus to peruse while you wait outside, and by the time you get seated your food comes quickly! Came to Tasty Pot for dinner with some friends and had a great time! I ordered the Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup. It was so full of flavors and spices I couldn't stop eating it! I LOVE spicy food and as the peppers continued to boil the spices were released. I really enjoyed my meal it wasn't too spicy (I have a high tolerance), and offered many other flavors thanks to the meats! I also ordered a Milk Creme Black Tea that was tasty. One of my friends ordered the Seafood Lobster Hot Soup. They liked the seafood flavor and the different types of veggies. Another friend had the Beef Hot Soup. While they did have trouble with the burner under their soup being too high and boiling out all of their broth they did enjoy the flavors of the soup. The experience was great and I would definitely go back! read more

Their strawberry matcha is also delicious, with a fresher, juicier strawberry flavor than a lot of other spots. I would honestly give this location 5 stars based on the drinks and regular barista interactions alone, but my last experience was really off-putting. I noticed that people often study there with laptops, so I came in with mine and brought a small lunch from Oori down the street to make a morning out of it. I've done this before without issue, but this time, a woman with crazy eyes who seemed to have a higher role came out and very abruptly scolded me, saying, "You CAN'T eat outside food here," while aggressively pointing toward the door as if I needed to leave immediately. I completely understand having a no-outside-food policy, and I would have had no problem following it if it had been communicated respectfully. But the way she approached me felt unnecessarily harsh and honestly pretty upsetting. I apologized right away, packed everything up in a panic, and left. After processing it, I realized how inappropriate the interaction felt for something that could have been addressed with a simple, polite reminder. Overall, Asha has great matcha, a cute space, and friendly baristas, but that experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. Just a heads up: the drinks are good, but you may want to be careful about bringing outside food in, because the policy might be enforced in a pretty unpleasant way.

As a popular chain of Chinese hot pot restaurants, Tasty Pot has gained a loyal following for its delicious food and warm, inviting atmosphere. In this essay, I will delve into the various aspects of Tasty Pot that make it such a standout restaurant, from its exceptional food quality to its friendly service and comfortable setting. First and foremost, Tasty Pot is known for its exceptional food quality. The restaurant offers a wide selection of hot pot ingredients, including fresh meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles. Tasty Pot is hands down one of the best hot pot restaurants I have ever been to. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly staff and the inviting aroma of simmering broth. The decor is modern and sleek, with wooden tables and chairs and dim lighting that creates a cozy atmosphere. The menu is extensive and offers a wide variety of options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. The broth options are also plentiful, ranging from spicy to mild, and there are even options for those who are gluten-free or lactose intolerant. What sets Tasty Pot apart from other hot pot restaurants is the quality of the ingredients. The meat and seafood are fresh and of high quality, and the vegetables are crisp and flavorful. The dipping sauces are also a highlight - the peanut sauce and sesame sauce are must-tries. One of my favorite things about Tasty Pot is the convenience of their ordering system. Each table is equipped with an iPad that allows you to customize your order with ease. You can choose the ingredients you want and even adjust the spice level of your broth. The service at Tasty Pot is exceptional. The staff is attentive and helpful, and they always make sure that everything is to your liking. The hot pot is also cooked to perfection, with the broth bubbling just enough to cook the ingredients without overcooking them. Another great thing about Tasty Pot is the portion sizes. The hot pot is big enough to share between two to three people, and the prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you receive. Overall, I cannot recommend Tasty Pot enough. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is inviting, and the service is outstanding. If you're looking for a great hot pot restaurant, look no further than Tasty Pot. Tasty Pot is a hot pot restaurant that offers some of the most amazing food you can imagine. Their menu features a wide variety of fresh, high-quality ingredients that are cooked to perfection in their delicious broths. They use only the freshest meats, seafood, and vegetables, which are carefully selected to ensure that they are of the highest quality. This commitment to quality is evident in every dish they serve, from their succulent beef to their plump shrimp. The broths at Tasty Pot are also a standout feature. They offer a range of options, from spicy to mild, and even have gluten-free and lactose-free broths available. Each broth is made with the freshest ingredients and simmered to perfection, allowing the flavors to blend and meld together to create a rich, flavorful broth. But what really sets Tasty Pot apart is its customizable ordering system. Each table comes equipped with an iPad that allows you to choose your ingredients and adjust the spice level of your broth with ease. This means you can tailor your meal to your exact preferences, ensuring that you get the perfect hot pot every time. The dipping sauces at Tasty Pot are also not to be missed. They offer a variety of sauces, from sweet to spicy, that are all delicious and perfectly complement the flavors of the ingredients in your hot pot. Tasty Pot in Berkeley has quickly become one of my favorite places to grab a comforting, flavorful meal. From the moment you walk in, the warm aroma of broth and spices hits you in the best way. The vibe is casual, clean, and welcoming--great for a quick solo meal, a casual date, or a cozy get-together with friends. I ordered the Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup, and it was honestly outstanding. The broth was rich and creamy without being heavy, and the spice level had just the right kick. Every ingredient tasted fresh--from the veggies to the thinly sliced meats to the tofu and noodles. You can tell they pay attention to quality. The portion size is huge too; I left full and still had leftovers to take home. What really impressed me was the service. Even when the place got busy, the staff stayed friendly, attentive, and efficient. They checked in to make sure the seasoning and spice levels were good and were super helpful with recommendations. My food came out quicker than expected, piping hot and beautifully presented. I also appreciate the variety on the menu. Whether you're into seafood, beef, lamb, or vegetarian options, there's a hot pot for every preference. And for the price, you're really getting great value--especially considering the portion size and quality. Overall, Tasty Pot is a fantastic spot for anyone craving Taiwan-style hot pot in the East Bay. Delicious food, generous portions, clean environment, and genuinely good service. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

Holy hot pot!!! As a hot pot newbie, I was a little intimidated at first, but the friendly staff at Tasty Pot made me feel so welcome and comfortable. They even went above and beyond by accommodating my dietary needs, changing up the broth and ingredients to suit my needs. Talk about excellent customer service! And let's talk about the food - oh boy, was it delicious! Every ingredient was so fresh and full of flavor, and there was more than enough to satisfy my growling tummy. And they didn't skimp on the portions either - I left feeling like a satisfied hot pot champion. Now, I won't lie - I visited on a busy Saturday night and had to wait for a bit, but it was so worth it! Plus, there was plenty of seating to go around, so no need to worry about that. And let me tell you, watching my hot pot simmer away on the table was like a mesmerizing food dance - I could have watched it for hours! All in all, Tasty Pot is now officially on my list of top hot pot spots. I can't wait to come back and dive into that delicious broth again! read more

While we enjoyed our visit, sadly the food was lackluster. The bf ordered filet mignon & brisket pho (4/10), I had the tofu chay pho (7/10). My bf said his pho was extremely salty and lacking in overall flavor. He's usually really easygoing and loves pho from pretty much anywhere but this was so bad he complained about how salty it was the rest of the evening. The menu had 3 vegan options which was awesome. I went with tofu chay pho and found it to be okay. The soup was pretty standard and it came with a generous amount of freshly fried tofu. I don't know if this was intentionally done for texture, but the tofu had been previously frozen, rendering it spongey and chewy. I typically don't see this preparation of tofu for pho, so I'm not sure what to make of it. You usually do that to tofu if you're going to stew it, not to toss in a clear broth. It was a bit tough and chewy for my preference, but to their credit the tofu was fried nicely and wasn't super oily. I was bummed it only came with tofu as I thought "chay" meant there would be veggies but maybe it only meant "vegetarian" in this context. They did not hold back on the tofu though. The portion was so generous, I had to bring it home. I have to point out that their rice noodle is really good (despite both of our lackluster soups). I eat slow and before I know it, the noodles are mushy and breaking. (My fault, not the noodles'). Not these noodles tho! They held up and let me take my time. If you're looking for pho that gets the job done, Pho Tasty isn't a bad option. The service was nice, the ambiance is good and they're open until 10pm.

For context, I am a student at University of California, Berkeley and a PM at a Fortune 500 company. I say that only to make clear that I am a professional person who understands how to treat others with respect and how basic customer service should work. I came in for a pickup order and stood there attempting multiple times to get the employee's attention. She ignored me repeatedly, even looking directly in my direction without acknowledging me. Then I heard her say hello, and for a moment assumed she was finally speaking to me. Instead, she intentionally greeted and assisted a couple who had just walked in behind me. After helping them, she again looked my way and continued to avoid acknowledging me. In that moment, the treatment felt deliberate and discriminatory. When she finally addressed me, the interaction remained hostile. She appeared suspicious of whether the pickup order was actually mine, despite me giving the correct name that was already listed on the receipt and not visible to me beforehand. Beyond the service, the food itself was equally disappointing. I ordered the orange chicken, and it was some of the driest, lowest-quality chicken I have had anywhere. I have traveled extensively and eaten food all over the world, and it is rare to experience food this poor combined with service this disrespectful. June 2026 -- Berkeley, CA Dumplings for the Deadline Damned…read more Dumpling Express, not far from UC Berkeley, has the kind of facade that says: we are not here to seduce you with ambiance; we are here to prevent your blood sugar from collapsing during midterms. The exterior is a pale green, low-drama storefront with a metal roofline, a modest hanging sign, a couple of sidewalk tables, and a general visual philosophy best described as "handmade dumplings, not handmade branding strategy." It looks less like a restaurant trying to be discovered and more like a temporary work-in-progress bungalow that decided to become permanent, with the rust swirling in like Berkeley's unofficial architectural signature. Naturally, this makes it more trustworthy. My review is based on an Uber Eats pickup order, which feels like the correct way to encounter this place. Dumpling Express appears mostly built for takeout: fast, practical, compact, and run by one kind master behind the counter surrounded by enough BTU's, condiments, steam, and ingredients to power a graduate seminar and three emotionally unstable group projects. Service was reliable. The food came packed in plastic containers that held heat well but were still easy to open and close, meaning you could theoretically eat this while driving. Should you? No. Could you? Tragically, yes. Berkeley has witnessed worse experiments in applied ethics. We ordered four items. The egg rolls were shockingly generous. One order could probably feed a four-person study group, or one economics major after discovering rent is not a theoretical construct. They were pretty good: crisp, not overly greasy, almost light. Flavor-wise, they were not exactly writing a dissertation, but they showed up to class. 3/5. The XLB tasted good, but they were not classic soup dumplings in the strict "I have traveled, I own opinions, and I have been hurt before" sense. The wrapper was not especially thin, and there was not enough of that dangerous, piping-hot broth that makes you question your dental insurance. Still, the flavor was pleasant. I did not feel betrayed. Merely academically unconvinced. 3/5. The chicken and cabbage dumplings were fine. A little bland, yes, but not bad, especially for cheap eats near campus. They are the dumpling equivalent of a decent discussion section: not life-changing, not offensive, and useful if you are hungry and trying to survive the week. 3/5. The clear star was the sesame ball with red bean filling. Crispy, warm, gooey, sweet, and deeply correct. This was the one item that stood up, adjusted its tiny sesame-covered blazer, and delivered an argument worthy of tenure. Excellent. 5/5. Overall, Dumpling Express is an excellent value spot for students, quick lunches, late study nights, and anyone needing hot food without emotional paperwork. For well-traveled adults chasing transcendent dumpling enlightenment, this is probably more of a "good in a pinch" situation than a destination pilgrimage. But for Berkeley? Near campus? For the broke, busy, brilliant, sleep-deprived, caffeine-haunted scholars of tomorrow? It makes sense. It feeds the machine. It keeps the little academic hamsters running. And the sesame balls deserve a fellowship.
