Tasty Burger, a Boston staple. My friends who have moved away from here miss it, it's that good. There's 4 locations in the Boston area, and the Harvard Square one is well known. It's open late and it's a takeout style. They do have tables to eat at but don't offer waiter service like Fenway. Food is delicious, their burgers are wonderful and fresh. Plus they have other options like chicken sandwiches which I love and hot dogs, etc. Very straightforward menu and great for late night eats. I will say you usually wait a little bit for food since they are cooking it fresh on the grill but worth the wait. There's also a tasty underground with pool tables that I used to eat and hangout at, but upon my most recent visit it was blocked off and appeared to be private event only, bummer. read more

This qualifies a a hamburger dive. Located just around the corner from Harvard square on the street level. It has stool along the windows and tables in the middle. Downstairs they have a full bar and a pool table. I suppose they could use it as a function room. I had a crispy chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato. I had them hold the mayo. It was 9.50 which I consider reasonable priced. In this day and age it seems a sandwich is going to run at least 9.50 or more. After 5 during the week a cheese burger small fries and a beer is 10.00. You can't beat that. I was there at 3:00 in the afternoon on a Sunday and it was busy so imagine what it like at meal time. It is self-contained with tables to boot. Showed up on a Tuesday night for a quick meal and got exactly that. There are two kiosks for ordering, and the employees call your name when your order is ready. My partner was the one who wanted a burger while I got onion rings and chicken nuggets. I didn't take a photo of the food because I was too hungry, but the food was just fine. The onion rings had very minimal breading so I felt like I was just eating onions, while the nuggets were too crunchy for my liking. He stares at me blankly for a good 30 seconds then says "it's pretty busy, might be a while to get food". Now, I was just upstairs, it wasn't busy, downstairs where we are I look around the only other people downstairs are a couple playing pool.... This dude didn't want to sell me food.... I order and the food takes 3 minutes to come to the table. I asked for onion rings and I got fries... My friends order, he also gives them a hard time about ordering food. When the food comes, there are no napkins in sight, downstairs seats like 60 people, but no napkins so we ask the dunce "can we have some napkins please" he looks to his left and right shrugs his shoulders and says I guess there isn't any, he says we don't have napkins". Now a normal person with a brain would say hold on ill get you some. Nope, instead we have to walk up a flight of stairs while are food is sitting to retrieve napkins from upstairs. Next people order whom are not with us he refuses to get them napkins as well. When our food comes, the server asks the couple playing pool if it's their food they say no. He proceeds to stand there with his back to us and not say anything just standing there breathing over our food. I have to shout at him twice "Hey that's our food" where he finally turns and looks legitimately inconvienenced that he had to turn his head. Instead of bringing it to us I had to stand up walk up the 20 feet to get it. He didn't bring it to our table. I asked for a recommendation and the cashier suggested starting out with a the Big Tasty Burger. I ordered: Big Tasty burger Chili Dog 50/50 fries and onion rings The burger was cooked medium (which is different than most other fast food burger joints). The lettuce, tomato and pickles added a fresh crunchy acidic contrast to the burger and bun. The special sauce tasted like a mix of mayonnaise and ketchup. This was a very solid burger on par with 5 guys or in and out ... way above McD and BK, but just a bit below a true gourmet burger. The chili dog was also solid. I was puzzled by the onion rings as they weren't really rings, but more like onion strips. Tasty nonetheless. For the alcoholics among us, they have table service in the basement where they can serve you a beer with your burger. Oh Tasty burger what happened you used to be, well, so tasty. I stopped in for lunch today for the first time in ages and got my old usual the Spicy Jalapeno burger and sadly it was pretty dreadful. The actual vegan patty could have used more seasoning, but I liked how it was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The lettuce was a little wilted, but it was still fine. The menu stated there would be guacamole, but mine was actually missing it. Overall, I wished there was more seasoning or vegan sauce that could have elevated it a little more (or included the guacamole). I go in, sit down in the middle of the day, and get a Cheeseburger without ketchup, lettuce, tomato or other unnecessary nonsense. I want a CHEESEburger. Unlike BGood or Shake Shake's tasteless patties, this burger with its grilled outer edges has the taste and texture that a cheeseburger is supposed to have. Five Guys comes close, but they cook the cheese with the burger from the start so it dissolves into the meat and becomes meaningless. Here, the cook put the slice of good old yellow American cheese on the burger only near the end, so it remains fairly solid and you can taste it. Like, you know, because it's a CHEESEburger. For $7.50 it's not cheap but not overpriced since it tastes pretty fresh and it is a good quantity. However, giving a 3 star to this location because the tables there were unclean, and the onion rings were not worth $4. They were more like small fried strips of onions rather than an onion ring.
