    Eggplant dip
    Monica L.

Cozy and classy ambiance, bustling on a Saturday night. Service was super friendly and good vibes. We got the eggplant dip and the sweet onion really nicely complemented the savory smooth eggplant. I got the charalaboglou and it had nice notes of apple and a pleasantly sour taste. Would love to come back and try more!

Recently went on a trip to Boston and were looking forward to enjoying food at this cute spot, but unfortunately, we're disappointed. I did enjoy the sunchoke donuts, but rather of the food was okay. The dessert was something we didn't bother finishing. Otherwise, the staff and service were wonderful.

First time at spoke and had a lovely dinner. The wine was good and the servers were very accommodating but the food was really special. Really interesting combinations and textures. Things you wouldn't necessarily think works but definitely works.

Spoke Wine Bar offers a really unique menu and is a great option if you're looking for a date night spot. We split a few plates such as the deviled burrata, sunchoke donuts, and clam skewers. Overall the food was yummy and interesting, but some plates had pretty small portions. My favorite item was definitely the sunchoke donuts! We were offered ice cream as a dessert option that wasn't on the menu, and it was such a delicious bite! I was also really impressed with their mocktail options. Plates come out pretty quick, even for a packed weekend night.

Ambiance is excellent, it has a cool vibe filled with cute interior design. Audience is also diverse, with different ages and races which we liked! When it comes to food, they are great. Our favorites were Sunchocke Donut and chrispy enoki cake, they were perfectly fried and awesome vegetarian options. Fish was pretty good, and Burrata was okay. I would not get stir-fry melon again tho, it wasn't our thing. Wines were great, as it is suppose to be - it's a wine bar anyways!

Such a disappointing meal. Parking is very limited in the area, so plan ahead and get a ride or expect to wait for a spot either on the street or in the nearby parking lot. Inside is a little tight but very beautiful. We were seated quickly and service was incredibly friendly, but the food is expensive and not worth coming back for. Lots of busy flavors and unique dishes. Our favorite of the night was the wagyu beef, though the serving size was small. The chocolate mousse was simply inedible. Far too salty and lacking in any other flavor, and the presentation wasn't doing it any favors. I can only assume desserts aren't their strong suit. Maybe it was our mistake, and I hope the experience is a lot better for wine/cocktails. Would only recommend if you go for wine/snacks and aren't planning for a full meal.

Food and drinks here are amazing and very creative . Asked bartender for a mocktail and he created a few really cool drinks. Also very friendly and knowledgeable of menu.  Place is very snug so it gets pretty loud, so just be awake.  I came solo and it took me four plates and a dessert to be full so keep that in mind when ordering   1)asparagus | dulse salsa macha: walnut so savory and perfectly seared asparagus. 5/5 2)red snapper with green berries: creative ingredients using the unripe green strawberries for less sweet and more tart flavor. The red snapper was fresh and good acidity in sauce 5/5) 3 warm melon- cooked Honey dew with some tiny mushrooms and a nice acidic sauce. This was  aciddic , slightly sweet and refreshing 5/5 4) bavette | curried crab butter, sorrel- tender and juicy and perfectly cooked medium rare. The crunchy sorrel on top added great  texture. 5/5 5) Asparagus- I love asparagus and this dishes as great. Seared asparagus with a savory dulse salsa macha sauce that added some nice crispiness and a little heat 5/5 5)coconut sichuan pepper semifreddo- very tasty and the tart berries added great contrast to the coconut. I barely tasted any Sichuan pepper though 4.5/5  I will come here again and again to try new creative dishes and drink 5/5 highly highly recommended

Came on a Wednesday and this place was busy and great! Ambiance(3/5) cozy place, can easily get loud, very hot Service (5/5) they were funny, smart/knowledgeable , and prompt Food(4/5) we tried so many thing but that dip was amazing! The carrots was surprisingly a fan favorite and the bison was awesome too. Burrata was just ok Cocktails drinks(4/5) crazy unique flavors, hard to make your own decision on what sounds/ would be good. I definitely recommend asking for help to get a better perspective of what you might order. Overall i would definitely come back! The menu is pretty unique so its not for that that don't want to try things.

I can't give Spoke enough stars! The food, service and atmosphere are all outstanding at this locally owned restaurant in Davis Square. Spoke is an especially nice place to come in the summertime. The space is small and cramped indoors, but there is ample outdoor seating at the edge of the sidewalk. While Spoke is best known as a wine bar, they also have an eclectic food menu and make very good "mocktails" or non-alcoholic cocktails. If you tell them what flavor profile you're in the mood for, the bartender will shake up something delicious for you. I came here for an early dinner on a pleasant Friday evening and sat outside. The dishes are small (tapa style), but huge on flavor and loaded with fresh, local ingredients, featuring menu items you have heard of with a unique spin. For example, I ordered the "Bavette with curried crab butter and sorrel" (which was some kind of delicious steak seasoned and cooked perfectly). I also got a dish with radishes in a "popcorn mayonnaise" with yogurt. I never would have imagined combining those ingredients, but wow! My tastebuds were in for a pleasant surprise! For dessert, I enjoyed an ice box tirimisu, which was not quite as dense as the classic version of this dish and offered just the right amount of sweetness to hit the spot without being overpowering. My server was very patient in helping me sort through the menu and extremely knowledgeable about everything on it. Despite being busy, my food came out quickly and I was able to relax and enjoy each course as it came out without feeling rushed to pay and leave. I highly recommend Spoke as a neighborhood spot to enjoy a drink and/or a meal on your own or with company. Yes, it's on the pricey side, but I do feel it's a good value given the quality of the food, excellent service and menu items you won't find anywhere else.

My new favorite date night spot in Boston. The cozy ambience is top notch and the food was delicious and inventive. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made sure to introduce each plate to us when served, as well as help us pick out some great wine pairings for the night. 10/10 experience, flavor, and satiation

Cozy spot for drinks and tapas-style plates. For some of the dishes we ordered, the flavor combinations didn't taste as good as they sounded on paper. I grew up eating my fair share of Chinese herbal medicine and the vegetable items we chose had almost uncannily similar herbaceous notes. Given both portions and size, all in all, I could see ordering a few plates here to tide you over until a more robust dinner later on. 1. Yellowfin crudo: Each piece came with a dollop of sweet potato and ham tare (which I'll fully confess to not knowing what it is). The counterpoint to any good crudo for me is some sort of acidic counterpoint to the fishiness, whether that's something citrus or a vinaigrette-based. This dish was in sore need of that extra spark of tartness and tasted, well, like sashimi with some spicy sweet potato. 2. Silken tofu: This one fell short. I am the world's biggest proponent of silken tofu and I love to see more restaurant dishes incorporate it. This one had slivers of carrot, curry leaf, and winter citrus. The entire dish was overwhelmed by the citrus, which was mouth puckering sour; the tofu provided only textural contrast rather than being the main character. Without the citrus, this dish would have been stellar. 3. Collard greens salad: Again, collard greens is one of those ingredients that keep on being used again and again as a lumpy side. Here, instead of persimmon on the online menu, tonight's version came with lots of beautiful, surprisingly sweet mango, but was burdened by a garnish of deep-fried kelp, which imparted an odd, herbal taste and didn't help the dish at all. Some of these dishes could have abided by the old Coco Chanel saying of taking off the last thing you put on. 4. Tea rubbed salmon: At this point, I was feeling a little crestfallen but immediately perked up with the salmon. Perfectly cooked, tender inside - salmon can be notoriously finicky with a potential for going over quickly to toughness if you look away from it for one second. Wonderful tea flavor that wasn't dominating but settles nicely on the tongue. The boiled potatoes that came with it were nothing spectacular but a good filler if you're still hungry. 5. Huge enormous oyster mushroom: A must-get. The meatiness of this mushroom could rival a steak. Incredibly tender at the core with flaky, crispy edges. I don't see it on the digital menu but I can't sing the praises of this dish enough. Take a look at my picture and just revel in its beauty. Our waitress was a total sweetheart (with beautiful earrings) who walked through the menu with her recommendations. Parking: metered and two-hour ones. We didn't have much trouble finding a spot on an early weekday evening.

Intimate ambiance with a frequently changing menu, which is a good and bad thing! Had been eyeing some new items that looked good on Instagram but I think only their iconic Sunchoke donuts were worth it. Came as a group of 4 and it was busy inside! Possibly slightly understaffed. Sunchoke donuts with gouda and powdered leeks that you might accidentally choke on! The donuts themselves were super crispy! Not doughy or bready at all, more like a small fried ring of mashed potato. 5/5 Enoki mushroom cakes with sausage spice and pineapple sauce smelled heavily of cumin but tastes like shawarma pineapple on pizza. Texturally it's like a deep fried dimsum radish cake, the inside is smooth and blended so you really can't tell it's enoki mushroom. 2/5 Crudo with mango and celtuce is like a modern take on papaya salad. Refreshing but the fish was flavorless. 2/5 Countneck clams with American persimmon, soy sauce, olive oil - a surprisingly good flavor combo in one bite but the persimmon was frozen and so dissolved quickly whereas the clams were tough so you're chewing on plain clams for a while. 3/5 Burrata was very memorable! It was so creamy on the inside like cream cheese, not stringy or liquidy! Sumac and pickled onion for tang, spiced and seedy puffed rice crunchies added seasoning and texture. The steamed purple sweet potato was random. 5/5 Short rib salad with fermented black bean paste and potato chips... basically roast beef meets zhajiangmian. I wouldn't have known it was short rib because with was cold so you don't get to enjoy the warm fatty tenderness, and the black bean paste was so overpowering in flavor. 3/5 Beef muscle membrane skewers were a bit ridiculous, it was $9 for two sticks. Tasted like beef ramen flavored bean curd sheets tornado potatoed on a stick. I heard it was supposed to be like chicken skin but definitely not - just slightly crispy around the edges but the center was tough and chewy. 2/5 Celery stir fry with yuzu, chestnuts, and maple syrup was literally just college dorm room stir fry veg. Sweet maple with celery was surprisingly good though. 3/5 Kasha (buckwheat groats) risotto had the texture of oatmeal but with a fermented savory flavor from the tamarind. Topped with perfectly cooked mushrooms and mushy squash. Something crunchy on top like whole buckwheat could've been good. 3/5 Red snapper was over cooked so you could see the white protein gooo leaking out the fillet. Cauliflower had a faint miso flavor and the almond buttery crunch paired well with the fish. 3.5/5 Beetroot chocolate torte had a very strong vegetal flavor so it tasted salty yet also felt like there was a clawing amount of sugar in it attacking your teeth. Like a failed "healthy brownie". The pistachio yogurt had no pistachio flavor but was texturally nice and fluffy. The fennel shortbread further made the dessert taste savory and most of the crumbs had turned into literal rocks that i was worried for me teeth trying to chew through?! We got complementary coconut Oreos which were tastier than the dessert but did not taste like Oreos as it doesn't seem like there's the black cocoa powder. Just call it a sandwich cookie? If you time it right then maybe the menu will have more hits than misses.

Last time I visited, I ordered their "Sea Dog" which they purport to be their special dish. I should have thought twice when the server told me it was "creamy," but they had a limited selection of food and I was very hungry--and, they made it seem like their signature dish! When it came, I immediately realized I had made a terrible mistake. One bite of the Sea Dog was all I could manage, as it was, in fact, very creamy, and very fishy. It was a very unpleasant eating experience, and I actually sent it back, which I almost never do. I will take some responsibility for ordering this dish, but I'm still puzzled by the whole thing. It was like creamy, fishy seafood mush enclosed in a sausage casing. The server did kindly offer to take it off our bill which I appreciated. On the bright side, the staff was very helpful and I really enjoyed the wine they recommended. I'd gladly come back for wine and the pleasant ambiance, but after the Sea Dog incident I'll probably stay away from their food for the most part.

My partner and I couldn't decide what to get from their a la carte menu so we ended up going for the four-course tasting menu instead ($85/pp), picking the omnivore and pescatarian options to see if we could try more items. We were actually a little underwhelmed at first, but the tasting menu got better and better after each course. The tasting menu started with some of their in-house pickles and ferments. We had some onion, green beans, and cucumbers, which I wished were crunchier. Each pickle had a good amount of acidity but I wouldn't have minded if the flavors were punchier. The first course of the tasting menu was a salad. Visually it just looked like a pile of lettuce, but they added a savory garlicky sauce and a sprinkle of asparagus salt that allowed the dish to feel refreshing and hearty at the same time. The radishes were crunchy, peppery, and delicious, and we were very pleased to find that many of the later courses also included raw radish. We ended up getting different dishes for the second course, one of which involved deep-fried arancini-like balls of risotto with a creamy sauce, and the other had a cold plant-based loaf served with a vibrant garlic sauce. Both dishes featured some fresh greens that balanced the carby heaviness. By the time we got to the third course, we realized that Forage makes their vegetables shine. The omnivore course came with a steak while the pescatarian course had a pan-fried fish, both of which were also available to be ordered a la carte. While we thought that the steak and fish were seasoned and prepared well, the vegetables stood out to us even more. They weren't prepared in any crazily innovative way but the chefs made the natural flavors of the vegetables shine in a way that complemented the rest of the dish very well. After the third course, we added one optional cheese course ($22/pp) that came with even more radishes. The hazelnut shortbread was super buttery and everything went well together. I was already feeling pretty full and was glad that we only got one cheese course instead of two. Finally, the fourth course had a maple semifreddo with seaweed crisps and a caramel nut sauce. This was amazing and something that I'll think about for a long time! I could really taste the maple flavor in the semifreddo, and the cold creaminess went so well with the salty, crispy seaweed and nutty, buttery caramel. The balance of textures and flavors in the dessert was excellent. Along with the tasting menu, we added one wine pairing ($60/pp). We liked some of the wines so much that we asked for more information about them and learned that some of the wines are imported in small batches. After experiencing how well vegetables are prepared here, I'd love to visit during different seasons to sample their vegetarian menu items.

Forage's menu is fresh, in season, locally sourced, and a little weird! But that's okay! We started with the scallops and the char spread served with a milk bun. The bun and char spread was DELICIOUS. I could eat a whole tub of it. The scallops are poached in Parmesan oil, and topped with fennel and ... black ants. Yes, actual dried, crunchy ants. It was a fun dish but it was actually the fennel that threw my palate off. For mains we were indecisive so we got 3 big plates. The cabbage Alfredo served with mushroom bacon and winter squash, the green peppercorn hanger steak served with cornbread (!) and mixed veg, and the New England seafood bake. The cabbage Alfredo was 10/10; incredible flavors and textures. The steak was of course amazing. And the seafood bake was good! We may have been hitting a food coma wall at that point, but the fish was a little underseasoned. Overall my opinion has changed. Forage is a spot you return to if you're tired of the monotony of your typical restaurant. I don't think any other spot in Greater Boston is serving scallops topped with black ants, but hey, it was fun! And once again, the staff is AMAZING. And service was great even placing the order by phone. The chocolate mousse is just heavenly. Deeply rich with an intense chocolate flavor that was luxurious and comforting at the same time. Is it too forward to rate just on their chocolate mousse alone? Maybe? But so what- it's just great!
