Our friendly server asked about allergies and, after hearing about the sesame allergy at the table, consulted with the kitchen staff about their menu and confirmed that even the hummus had no sesame! Because we had enjoyed Barcelona Wine Bar in New Haven (Yale), we decided to give the Cambridge (Harvard) restaurant a competition between the Bulldogs and the Crimson. We loved the concept in both places: a wide and varied menu, the chance to learn about some unique wines, and excellent service. The score in this contest was a tie, and we can't wait to try both again for the overtime. We were given a table near the window and despite the fact that the restaurant filled up quickly, it was relatively quiet and felt somewhat private. Now to the review of the Cambridge MA location. Our server, Conrado, was attentive and allowed us to have a leisurely meal, bringing out each course as we had enjoyed the previous selections. We initially chose the "Trust Fall Flight" of 3 half glasses of wines that Conrado chose for us based on our desire to try reds from Chile, Argentina,and Spain essentially cabernet, merlot, and carignan dominant grapes respectively. All three were full bodied and rich, but for our second glass, my partner chose the Chilean Penalolen (Cabernet) and I chose the Spanish Sotabosc (Grenache + Carignan). It was a delightful wine experience, and all wines went well with our choices for tapas. We opened with meat appetizers: Jamon Iberico and Chorizo Picante. Then we had the Roasted Carrots and Beef Empanadas. Third offering was the Pork Belly and the Crispy Brussels Sprouts. The base sauces for the second and third courses were delicious, and we used our complimentary bread to soak up every drop. We ordered 2 desserts: the Basque Burnt Cheesecake and the Chocolate Cake with Coffee Creme Anglaise and Almond Crumble. Both were delicious. We dined from 5:00 PM until we left at 6:45 for a play at the nearby American Repertory Theatre (a 10-minute walk for the fleet of foot). We had a party reservation yet we waited almost an hour to get our table. While this was frustrating, the manager was so helpful in making the rest of our experience an amazing one. If I was dining with a picky eater I would bring them here. Let me explain myself-- everything is cooked and seasoned well, and the massive menu ensures that everyone will find something they can eat. Even if you don't end up liking the dish, the tapas size is small so you're not losing too much. And most importantly, most of the dishes I tried had garlic, salt, pepper, and olive oil as the predominant flavor profile. The perfect seasoning profile for a non-adventurous eater! For the more adventurous eaters, I'd highly recommend sampling from their charcuterie and cheese selection. I enjoyed trying different combinations of cheese and meat with the bread to see which flavor profile was my favorite (also a good activity for Remy's friend from Ratatouille). This restaurant is really only worth it for the charcuterie boards. The tapas range from slightly above average to bad. Overpriced as well. The meat and cheese menu rotates, but you really can't go wrong with any of their selections. I love trying out new cheeses here. Tonight we tried Delice de Bourgogne and Alisios cheeses with Chorizo Blanco meat. All very delicious! ~~ Tapas ~~ Patatas Bravas (7/10): Ok, patatas bravas were a bright spot. I'm biased against the dish because it's just potatoes, but they're nice and crispy at least. Sauce was nice. Crispy Okra (8/10): Delicious dish. Okra was tender and nicely fried. Honestly probably the best dish we had (besides the charcuterie) Bone Marrow (5/10): Too citrusy. It's hard to mess up bone marrow, and the dish is still good, but I've certainly had better. Burrata (6/10): Good because burrata is good all on its own. The dish did not elevate it or do anything creative with it. Bacon-wrapped Dates (7/10): A classic tapa. The blue cheese sauce was a nice pairing with the strong flavors in the bacon/dates. Seared Salmon (3/10): Disgustingly overpriced. We paid $15 or $16 and got the tiniest salmon. The salmon was overcooked and not tender enough on the inside. On the outside, EXTREMELY average. Tasted like subpar wedding food. The UCLA dining halls could mass produce salmon much better than this. Honestly, this dish is a significant reason I rate this restaurant a 3*. Do not order. Gambas al ajillo (5/10): Average. Shrimp tasted fine, but not very memorable. Spiced beef empanadas (5/10): Tasted fine, but also not memorable. I liked the nice spicy kick, but otherwise very underwhelming. Squid Ink Fideos (4/10): Too salty. Very boring dish with no flavor complexity. Lemon Hummus (5/10): Tasted fine. Not very memorable - probably comparable to what you can get in the supermarket Potato Tortilla (7/10): This one was actually more decent than the other dishes. Pretty good, and I would recommend. Chocolate Cake (7/10): Comes out nice and warm. Not too sweet. Not a bad way to end the night. Service was decent, but they did get our order wrong in multiple ways. Came here on Sunday for brunch and my friends and I had a great time. The service, ambiance, and food were all great. We made a reservation online and seated on time. They say the tapas come out in 5-10 minutes and I believe it. The tapas came out promptly. They also said that the large plates take up to 45 minutes and our seafood paella probably took that long. Came here with my roommate and we had a wonderful dining experience! As someone with celiac disease and needs to follow a gluten-free diet, I felt safe dining here. Our server was not only very friendly and attentive, she was also very knowledgeable on what was safe for me to eat on the menu and was able to mark up the menu clearly for me. Such a great combination of sweet and savory and sour *and* spicy since the chorizo had a slight kick that I really enjoyed -pork belly with zucchini relish: really enjoyed the texture of the pork belly - it was so tender with a crispy skin on the edge, though I felt like the portion size was a bit small compared to the price Finally, we also ordered the seafood paella, which is made fresh since they recommended us to order it at the same time as when we ordered our tapas. We ended up getting the half size, which is more than enough for two people in my opinion (especially if you're also trying a few tapas, we had so much leftovers to bring home). Ok tapas place in Cambridge. Came here to celebrate things with coworkers. We ordered bunch of small plates (croquetas, gambas, bone marrow, pulpo, and etc.) and large seafood paella. The croquetas were so gooood - we ordered it three times haha :P Bone marrows were okay, but bit salty on my taste. Pulpo was okay as well. Gambas were not sepcial either, I could smell some shrimp in there. I would not order the paella again tho, it was bit blend and not fully cooked in my opinion. They should do better! We brought a group of our clients to Barcelona Wine Bar for a business meeting and it absolutely exceeded every expectation. The food was phenomenal -- truly next level. The Beef Short Rib with truffle chimichurri and fennel purée was one of the best short ribs any of us have ever had -- insanely tender, rich, and packed with flavor. The Duck Caldoso with butternut squash and sage was just as impressive -- deep, comforting, and perfectly balanced. Honestly, we've never had duck this good. For dessert, we shared the Basque Burnt Cheesecake with Luxardo cherries, and wow... it was the perfect finish -- creamy, lightly caramelized, and not overly sweet. One bite and the whole table went silent (the best compliment). Huge credit to Executive Chef Corey O'Shea -- his talent truly shows in every dish. Our entire group was raving about the food all night. The service was excellent as well -- our waitress was attentive, professional, and friendly. Came here to celebrate my BIRTHDAY with a couple friends. The host who led us to our table gave me birthday wishes and told me to enjoy my time. However, when the server came, not a word was said. Business as usual. That's fine. Food was good. However at the end when all the plates were gathered, my friends were expecting some sort of dessert to be brought out for me but nothing came. One of my friends asked if he could bring out a little birthday dessert or something with a candle on it and all our server said was "I mean, I could bring you the dessert menu." Um. Thanks. We had a 7:15pm reservation for 2 on Friday, we were seated 45 minutes later! This seems to be a common problem as other reviewers have said the same thing. When walking out of the restaurant, I heard a group of people saying that this is not the first time they've had to wait a long time past their reservation to finally sit. There is no waiting area, so everyone crowds around the bar. I would've been annoyed if I were sitting at the bar or the tables as everyone waiting was shoulder to shoulder in this small area. At one point the bartender got on-top of the bar and started pouring sangria shots out of a pitcher into waiting guests mouths. Aside from waiting much too long for our table to be ready, they had a large and diverse menu, I'll certainly be going back to try more. For a party of two the server suggested ~3 small plates per person OR one large plate to share to go along with one small plate per person. Barcelona wine bar is super hard to get into, and for good reason. The restaurant is in high demand for their delicious tapas style dishes, their delicious drinks, and their overall great vibes. This is a great place for dates, for large groups, for families. We had so many dishes and all were very good. My friend and I came here for Saturday brunch at 11:30am. This spot doesn't get nearly as busy as the South End location, and there were plenty of tables. We ordered the bacon-wrapped dates to share, which came with a blue cheese whip. I also had the mixed salad, which was crisp and refreshing (and very olive-y!). Recently visited Barcelona Wine Bar in Cambridge after being a regular customer at their Atlanta location. Much like the Atlanta location, good vibes and ambiance, and were seated and served rather quickly considering it was a busy Friday night. Also huge shout out for Barcelona being one of the few places that *still* gives FREE bread (that actually tastes super good and is warm). Ordered a couple of cocktails, pitcher of red Sangria, and a variety of tapas plus order of paella. Sangria is decent, not super strong but can get 4-5 glasses out of the pitcher which is a fair deal. Out of all of the food, the tapas were the standout to me. The seafood paella (Paella Verduras) was generously portioned however the calamari and shrimp were kind of overcooked and it was rather salty, probably would not ordered again. The charcuterie was delicious and really enjoyed whatever jam was served with it and wish we had a little bit more of it! As for the tapas I tried: whipped ricotta, pork belly (served with zucchini relish), and grilled puplo. All were flavorful and tasty, and the octopus was cooked perfectly. All in all I think Barcelona is a decent spot for the date night if you are wanting something classier/ambiance but not wanting to schlep to Boston. However based off the paella I believe that many of the larger plates could likely be overpriced for not super great quality. Despite this, I think they really do shine with the tapas and charcuterie, and doing a few rounds of drinks while trying out various dishes and sharing with someone makes for a fun evening. 3.75ish stars read more

I had great memories of dining at the Brookline Barcelona many years ago and was excited to try the Cambridge chapter. Food is great- we enjoyed the Paella Mariscos, Grilled Pulpo, Roasted Whole Branzino, and Eggplant Caponata the best- all perfectly cooked, very flavorful. The Gambas Al Ajillo was a bit too salty and was cooked 10 seconds too long, the Steak Paillard was okay but not terribly exciting. The red sangria and Bio-Curious selection of wines were very good. Desserts were good too- the flan was a bit too sweet, but we enjoyed the chocolate cake. Service was courteous but perhaps not the most attentive, and we had to follow-up a couple times on dishes that hadn't come out, or for them to clear our table and take our dessert order. We had a great experience that puts it over the top. First off: we found a great spot at the bar. Next to the encyclopedias from 1911. Selena is the best bartender ever :) she really took care of us, introducing us to her favorite tapas! The vibe at the bar was lively and the bartenders knew their stuff. One of the other BT's told us about the two ports he was pouring- not just pouring it, but what the differences were, that's a great sign!
