I love this location! What a great addition to Ghent & 21st! I'm pretty sure the next time I'm craving Taste this would be my go to location. I love the cute little patio you see first thing. Who doesn't love soup, sandwiches, wraps, coffer & tea!? The Borjo drink bar is nice and the seating on that side seems like a great place to read/study. I decided to create my own sandwich. Loved the fresh ingredients not to mention the basil mayo was a nice added touch. Plenty of indoor seating on both sides. I'm sure the outdoor patio is popular on warm days. Inside they also offer gelato! And have plenty of additional items to choose from. read more

I'm a bit reticent in posting anything less than positive during these difficult times. However, I feel as though I went above and beyond in patience level with this restaurant. It was Mother's Day and I placed an order 2 hours early online. At the arrival time I had to wait an additional 20 minutes. For 4 sandwiches. My Tidewater sandwich, chicken salad with country ham was pretty disappointing. Ham was so little as to not be noticed. Chicken salad was large chicken chunk with gristle sandwich. I was hoping for Williamsburg Cheese shop type food but sorely disappointed. I will give three stars because young guy manning front of shop was very nice. That said, won't go again. Damn! READ THIS PLEASE I am a regular at Taste I love the signature Cobb Salad. However this location is the WORST Taste location I have EVER been to. The staff is rude. They literally write down your card information on a peice of paper over the phone. How I know is a employee told me himself. Thank god they got the card number wrong.....Last but not least the manager of that store is aweful. I have never been so insulted and offended in such a way where I didn't even want to eat. I love this place as the sandwiches are AMAZING and hate giving them only 2-stars, BUT... I recently came here on at 1300 on a Saturday, steady stream of people walking in, but not too busy (no line to order). Ordered 2 sandwiches, and it took 30 minutes for them to finish. There were 8 people working behind the register, 5 making sandwiches at a seemingly moderate pace and three more girls standing back there not really doing anything. I love it! It's a more local version of Panera! We ordered takeout online and it was super easy! I love how I could customize what I wanted and they made it just right! Great location with nice outdoor seating area. Options for signature sandwiches are incredible but are on the pricey side a breakfast croissant "Bernardo and medium hazelnut latte" at ~$14. They both were great by the way. They have good WiFi and I often see multiple surfers either studying, working lunch, and possibly the next JK Rowling. Large range of demographics as I see Families, ladies who lunch, a purple hat gathering, office lunches and students and servicemen and women. The Latte I ordered was frothed nicely and flavorful and hot all in a good way. The sandwich was not as hot as I hoped and was quickly taken care of by the kitchen. It is quite busy dining room but I waited no more than 8 minutes for my lunch to arrive at the table I chose. This has been a very much welcomed return to Ghent for Taste in what used to be a location for Blockbuster Video, a mattress store and then vacant building. I was extremely excited that they had opened one in Ghent and excited to see the same efficiency and quality as with the one off of Hampton. Quality is wonderful, as to be expected, and the atmosphere is lovely. The reason I'm giving them three stars is because they are extremely slow at getting food out to customers. It seems they're understaffed and that holds up lines and, as a lunch spot, most people seem to be left in line longer than thy should be. They don't pay attention to customers at the pick up window and some are left standing there for upwards of 15/20 minutes. Not a place to go if your looking for quick lunch unfortunately. read more

I used to LOVE Taste Unlimited. I was their biggest cheerleader and walking advertisement. I was back in the area and thought I'd swing by and grab some lunch today. Let me start by saying it was around noon on a Sunday. It was not busy. We walked right up to the register, no waiting. We ordered two sandwiches and a juice. The juice was promptly served at the juice bar about 90 seconds later. I drank it and it was delicious. We waited for our sandwiches. And waited. And waited. And waited. And waited.... we watched the manager walk around, chat with people, refill a sample station (I suppose maybe because all of it were getting extremely hangry waiting on our food). Some people who came in after us got their food. Some people waited to pick up their "order ahead" food alongside us. We all looked very irritated and no one seemed to notice. Despite the large number of staff in the back there would be whole blocks of time where no food was being pushed out from the kitchen. Every person in the back worked extremely slow and with zero sense of urgency. It was obscene. When they finally called my name I looked very exasperated. We waited almost THIRTY minutes for TWO sandwiches and it wasn't that busy!!!!!! When I took my bag, with my very irritated face, the girl didn't say anything. I told her they could at least apologize for the lengthy wait. If you think I'm overreacting, you should know another woman was asking to speak to the manager about the wait as well. I love this place. They serve the best food, and have excellent service if you order before or after lunch. Ordering for lunch can be hectic, but they open at 7am so you could technically order your sandwich for lunch and pick it up in the morning. One word...BREAKFAST! I have been going to the Taste on Hampton for years and I did not see the big deal. It took forever to get food and there are so many people. This location is perfect for Ghent! The people are polite and the food comes out quickly and it is so fresh! I didn't even know taste had breakfast. I tried it this morning and I was so pleasantly surprised. I tried to stop eating and take a picture but it was gone! I tried the Pompano with an iced coffee! Delicious! I will only visit the taste on 21st! Definitely worth the trip! I stumbled across this location while running errands nearby. It looked interesting. Today is Xmas Eve and it seems they had way more customers than expected. The line to order wasn't too long but It was almost a 1/2 hour wait to get a fried egg sandwich. Unacceptable wait. The sandwich was fine and the servers were pleasant and helpful. When I asked about my sandwich 15 min after ordering it, I was told it would be another 15 min. When I asked "why?" For a simple sandwich, the order taker said "we are swamped and understaffed." That's honesty. But really good customer service would be to give the order taker the power to give anyone who had to wait more than 15-20 minutes a "treat" for waiting such as a cookie, a piece of fruit or a coupon for $5 off their next visit. It's one thing to have a problem when you don't anticipate a high volume of clients, but it's how you handle it that will make you successful (or not). read more

Ordered for pick up. Cashier repeated everything back to me correctly. 2 chicken ceaser 1 with extra dressing. Make it a box lunch " adds chips and a dessert for 4 bucks. " Beach club, no tomato, make it a box lunch. When I arrived the bag was missing extra dressing, no big deal. However, what I did not think to check, forks! 2 salads you kind of need some forks! Napkins would have been nice as well. I check the sandwich out of habit since tomatos can kill me. Yep, god damn tomatos! It was between the cheese "hardly any" and ONE leaf of lettuce on the sandwich. Peeled all that out leaving me with onions, meat and some dry bread. Good thing they give you a container of sauce, bad thing is you have to use at least half of it to choke down the bread. So 9.99 for a sandwich with dry bread, and the only thing you can taste is the dressing and onions. As and added bonus, in Norfolk the tax rate is 6 percent, they charged me 13 percent tax. So I got to pay extra for a nearly inedible sandwich! The chicken ceaser btw, nothing special save your self some money and go to panera. read more

This place is amazing! I am in the medical imaging field and spend a lot of time onsite at hospitals and clinics. Usually the food that is brought in for training events is abysmal at best. On this site visit, the local project lead ordered lunch in from Taste Catering. It was the best lunch I've had in a long time. Fantastic salad with fresh avocado and bacon and an amazing sandwich!! What a nice and eclectic looking place it is on 21st street in Norfolk but the food is NOT good. I was there a few times to give it another try and another try but I'm not going back. There is not enough food in their sandwiches, as simple as that. Each time we all left hungry. Thick bread with microscopic particles that look like....food or something....funny no, but not really. My wife and I remember when Peter Coe founded and operated Taste Unlimited. There used to be a store on Colley Ave. Everything was very good. However, Peter, regretfully, passed away a few years ago. With the new store opening again in Ghent, we purchased sandwiches today. Believe me when I say that it does not come close to what I am used to getting. The "special sauce", which was developed by Peter, barely made its way to the sandwich; I could not even taste it and had to actually look to see if it was there. Also, the French bread was average, falling far short of what it used to be. Therefore, the sandwich was judged to be average at best. There are many other sandwich options in the immediate neighborhood that are better. We are long term fans of Taste Unlimited, and it is hoped that they can get their act together to recreate the experience that Peter provided. read more
