Wine sampling is a must! When visiting total wine you must check if you can sample wine. My latest visit I was thrilled to sample a brunch selection of wines. It was my birthday, so I had to pick up a penny wine. The past two years knowing you can pick out a bottle of wine for a penny during your birthday week is fabulous. On the hunt again for more Soju. So far no Jinro Soju or yogurt soju. However this Total Wine did have a decent selection. All these flavors I have tried except the coffee one. Peach and grape is still the best that's here. There is so pre-made canned cocktails here that I ended up picking up but only because it says it is yogurt flavor. There's peach yogurt one and that seemed like the best to try. Cider selection singles kinda small to choose from but they do have alot of Down East flavors. On the way out we talked to a lady at the wine sample area and picked up a few sparkly wines for a Christmas party. She was really nice and had us get the total wine app. It had some coupons for wines and saved us 10 bucks. Overall the total wine is a bit on the small side but they staff are nice and the store is very clean. It's also very close to a really good BBQ joint. Still my fave place place to come. Today was extra special, as we were able to do lots of tasting. The rep from Anheuser Busch was in the store doing tastings of their new seltzer. Everytime I go in, the staff is so friendly. We also were able to do a wine tasting too. I came in to spend a $50 gift card and left paying $75. That's a good day to me. read more

Good location in a cool building. Parking lot can be busy but there is also street parking. Staff is friendly and helpful. I like to check out the recommended staff wines section. Good selection of everything I have needed or wanted. The store lacks a bit of curb appeal from the street. Although the building is very unique with large windows, Total Wine unfortunately leaves boxes and such stacked in front of these windows leaving the view into the building less than ideal. read more

I reluctantly visited Total Wine & More since Beer is my preferred beverage, Real Beer...Craft Beer. I was blown away by the selection and multiple aisles of every imaginable beer style. The next time I swore to bring lunch with me with the time it would've taken to review their vast selection. There is even a section for local breweries and I love their support of local businesses. I'm from NY but this Norfolk location is on my list each time I visit. The staff is always pleasant, attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. Bravo! read more

I've only been to this store twice, although I really like the chain since they often have just about any beer released. When finding out they had a limited release beer I immediately called and spoke to staff who confirmed they indeed did. Unfortunately they could not reserved it per company policy I was already for familiar with. I arrived at the store and parked off street. They also have a lot shared with a strip. No issues with trash on the street, lot, or in front of the store. The building is of historic nature, I assume 1940's. It's nice looking, but needs paint and repairs. Once inside it's a stark difference from the modern TW I shop at in Virginia Beach. Old floors, walls and shelving. Although different it fit the area and works. They most likely will have everything you need, but not in the quality. The item a 2016 limited release Firestone Walker was in the managers office. He and other staff I dealt with that afternoon were very friendly. Checkout was a breeze. They do have a rewards program discounting your purchase. You must sign up for it. I would have no issue in returning, but I must say I do prefer the modern stores. read more

We stopped in to get some cool bubbly for my cousin's retirement. Wanda was extremely helpful in our selection...quite a cheerful employee. We ended up buying 2 bottles, four champagne glasses, and two gift sets of port for the occasion. We also added several other items to take home. Nice location in a nice shopping center. The employees are out and about, offering customers assistance as needed. Wide selection of wines, but I did ask and they do not sell certain brands at this location (Villa Jolanda is what I asked about) & it makes me wonder why. I love how the store has the aisles labeled so it's pretty easy for customers to guide themselves. They also have shelves for special orders and web orders near the front, quickly accessible for those who ordered. Not sure if at all locations, but they even have a chilling machine!! This place is huge. They have a huge selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and wine tastings every week. I really enjoy the staff picks placed around the store. When in doubt, go with one of those or talk to someone on staff - they have never steered me wrong. They have a wall of single beers that you can build your own six pack with, which is always exciting. Just be careful you watch the prices because some of the more expensive beers can add up quickly and you'll find yourself paying $12 for the six pack! Also, see the posted pic. If your beer or wine of choice wasn't in the cooler and you want to drink it as soon as you get home, put it in the "free chilling service" and in a few minutes you'll have a frosty brew! I'm a huge fan of Total Wine & More and especially love the set-up of the Ghent store. I just learned the other day that it used to be a car dealership, so there's your local trivia tip for the day. There is a ridiculous amount of beer to choose from, they carry one of my favorites that I can never find anywhere else. Another cool thing you can do here is mix and match a 6 pack of bottles. They have a backroom which is a freezer that stores kegs and cold cases of beers. I've rented a keg here before and it's a really easy process. The staff is always extremely helpful here and will go to great lengths to help you find exactly what you need. One time an employee helped me look for the beer I wanted for about ten minutes, she really went above and beyond. They carry many different types of wine, beer, and some bar foods. read more

I was in Norfolk for the day for an event at ODU - but had time to kill and a coupon burning a hole in my pocket ready to expire, so I rolled in to this Total Wine location to pick up a few bottles. From the outside, it's a rockin' cool building. Compared to my usual location though, the interior is cramped and crowded. Literally every square inch is covered in wine and it's hard to get the cart around in the store. I found several great selections - they also had a quick tasting going on in the middle of the store, so I sampled those (tasty!) and pick up a couple bottles. Staff was friendly and helpful. If I'm in the neighborhood and simply must use a coupon, I'll pop back here any time. read more

I have been to this Total Wine & More location a handful of times and have never been disappointed. Today's trip was to pick up 3 12-packs of Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Cider that we were unable to order online at the Newport News location or this location. Yes, we were still unable to order them online from the Norfolk location even though they had 3 in stock. It would only let us order 2 because they implement "Safety Stock", meaning if I place an order for 3 12-packs online successfully and someone in-store is walking around with one 12-pack to buy the safety stock still allows me to get my 3 because the store has 4 total in-stock. When they explained that to me it was understandable, so I had them place the 3 they actually had in stock on hold for me to pick up this week. They were super helpful and quick on the phone when I called a total of 2 times to coordinate the pickup. I arrived right at 9:01am, just after they opened, so I was quickly able to get my beer and check out. Great experience at this Total Wine! I will definitely be back soon. read more

You can't go wrong with rows and rows of wine. And when they're prominently marked with easy-to-read labels, then it's even better. That's what you get at Total Wine. Sections are marked at the top with large signs boasting "Cabernet Sauvignon," "Malbec," "Chardonnay," etc. And within each section, price labels easily correspond with wines (so there's no confusion on which wine costs what amount), and additional tags note staff favorites and best sellers. The labels make it a breeze to find that cheap, but not too cheap, bottle of wine. And a huge variety never hurts, right? As for the beer... well, the selection rocks. So many cases but also so many individual bottles available for purchase as well. You can create your own 6-pack, or just choose one or two beers if you're only looking for a taste. And I'm not talking Bud Light and Coors. I'm talking craft beers, local brews, seasonal samples, and ciders up the wazoo. Definitely my cup of tea. If you're looking for a large selection, helpful staff, and an easy to navigate superstore, this is the place. read more

I LOVE this place. The wine tastings are super cool. The selection is almost overwhelming. My friends and I had a beer bracket thing to celebrate our friend's birthday. We had to bring 12 of the same beers but they had to be "different"...aka not PBR or Bud Light. Total wine has a bajillion types of beers and I was so excited to see that they had six packs of my favorite: Hacker-Pschorr Heifeweisen. Amazing. The place is clean, well organized, and the staff doesn't mess around when it comes to checking ID's. There's always a person meandering about just waiting for you to ask them for their advice- they are incredibly knowledgeable. Only with lots and lots of beer. I stopped into Total Wine & More because I was on the hunt for good beer. This place reminds me of the Bev Mo's in California .. only I think Total Wine carries more beer. This isn't the place you want if you're just looking for a 12 pack of Bud Light. The rows and cooler full of micro beers was fascinating. I've had some in the past and some I plan on buying on my next shopping trip. They also have loads of wine and I expect very knowledgeable staff as I heard some customers ask about some wines to purchase. But I was on a mission for beer. And Beer I did find. I highly recommend checking Total Wine and Beer .. oops .. I mean More if you're looking for something different. The prices aren't too bad considering you're not buying a pack of Coors and they have single bottles too. If you aren't interested in buying a pack but would rather sample them to see if it peaks your taste buds then the single bottles is definitely what you want. Next on my list is the Bourbon Stout. That's right. Bourbon and Stout. Together. No words guys. So it turns out that Heaven is only a 15-20 minute drive. read more

I'm not huge on wines, so I'm probably not fully appreciative of their huge selection of wine--but I do love beer. This particular location doesn't have QUITE the selection of some of the other Total Wine's I've been to in the area--but it definitely has enough to make you feel overwhelmed. One of the best things about Total Wine, for me, is that when I start to feel overwhelmed by the selection, the staff is right there and ready to answer whatever questions you may have and/or make recommendations. They're extremely knowledgeable (at least the ones I've talked to) and willing to help you find something that will hit the spot. Overall, I'd say definitely keep Total Wine in mind the next time you need to save some money and avoid the bars. You'll spend 1/3 of what you would at the bar and get 20 times the selection to choose from. read more

I've found some great tasting wines at a variety of prices, which is ideal for our home wine tasting parties to introduce people to wine who are afraid of paying too much for a wine they don't like just to go with dinner. The staff is friendly, helpful, and usually can talk smartly about the wines I'm asking about. Stocked full of alcoholic goodies! I haven't really been great at distinguishing what is great and was is just mediocre as far as wines go, so I typically look for the wines that have been tagged as their staffs favorite. Other than their extensive wine selection, they also have a big selection of imported beer that you can mix and match! Plus, this is pretty much the only place I know that you can easily get kegs! They also have little knickknacks on the side closest to the windows, for all your drunken needs. I did note that they do not sell muddles here. But everything else, including all your pre-mixed stuff, they've got you covered. It would be great if they sold liquor too, but hey, we cant just have it all. Keep in mind that they enforce their strict ID policy. So even if you're not paying, make sure you have your ID with you. read more

I don't mind making a quick stop to Total Wine for my drinking needs, unless if I'm not picky and can be cool with the selections at stores. You can find MOST beers and wine here. Every time I hear about a new beer, I come here to find it and try it! They are always super helpful, and are ready to help you out. The people working there know their stuff and ready to give recommendations on the spot. Not only do they know what to recommend, but they know exactly where it is in the store. There's an employee named Bill who was my go to guy but haven't seen him in awhile, not even sure if he still works there. However, all the employees who have helped me know what their talking about. Lastly, on Saturdays at noon (I believe that's the time) there's wine tastings. Now it's not the fanciest wine tasting, but it does open your taste buds to new wine flavors! read more

Wine. Beer. What's not to like? The husband's favorite thing about this place is the Make-Your-Own-6-Pack. He will spend the better part of an hour crafting the perfect mix of brews. They carry our favorite locals from St George's, O'Connor, and (is it really considered local?) Dominion. I just like wandering through the aisles and looking at the types of wine and the regions they hail from. I purchased 4 cases of wine for a birthday function and ordered more than needed after being enticed by the salesperson I could return unused bottles. When I went to return the unused bottles Clayton, the Assistant Manager advised me none of the return was valid because the wine was too cool (by touch). He refused to credit me validating the coolness with a subordinate (as if they would disagree with the assistant manager). I asked him to call the manager and he did. Afterwards, he advised me the manager concurred with his decision (the captain and leader) I walked out of the store and left the cases and he followed me to my car with the 4 cases yelling, "Sir take this wine" (how dangerous). Ultimately, I called corporate real-time and they resolved the situation. The moral of the story is if you believe there has been injustice, escalate your concern. Often times the "manager" or representative may not be knowledgeable or educated on the true company policy. After all, they are people too and can lack understanding and/or true "policy". read more

I had a bad experience with the customer service last night. My boyfriend was purchasing non-alcoholic beer and they asked for both of our ID's, I didn't have my wallet so I said sorry I don't have it but I'm not there to buy alcohol, and neither was he. First he asked my boyfriend if he was my guardian, which was awkward and we said no. They didn't let us purchase it so we left. I went to go get us food and we thought maybe we try again since I wouldn't be there and I wouldn't be a bother that way. My boyfriend went in and tried to purchase the same non-alcoholic beer, and apparently the same guy was there and this time, asked for MY ID, even though I wasn't even there! I don't know about you, but asking for my ID when I am not there, and refusing service to him, is uncalled for, he had no right to do that, and no right to refuse service or judge me and treat me poorly just because he saw me there once. Also, what was he thinking that oh ya my boyfriend just carries my ID around with him where ever he goes so he's just going to whip it out just because some guy who thinks he can get away with it asks for it. That service should not be tolerated, and if it were up to me I would have complained to the manager or at least told him he can't treat people this way. I wish I could give them less than one star on yelp and I wish the guy knew how much he affected me and hurt me. Just because he's a white male does not give him the right to treat me that way. read more
