Very nice fusion bistro near UM campus. And close walk from DT. Went here on a Sunday day night and it was surprisingly busy. Sat at the bar and had a couple glasses of beer on tap. They have an extensive wine list but tonight was looking for beer. We then split an app (delicious juicy duck taco) and along with an entree (chow fun). That was an excellent curry noodle dish. Really good. There were other good looking dishes on the menu so will surely be back. Dessert list was short and did not strike us so did not get anything. read more

I really enjoyed the atmosphere, made me feel kind of fancy, with the low candle light, dimming of the room lights and mature menu. Since this was my first time, I got a couple of things as I was craving something along the lines of Asian cuisine. The prices on this menu are a tad higher here but well-deserved servings to make it up to you. The menu does change here so if you do end up loving this place, you can come back and try something new. Here, I tried one of their risottos and their grilled pork entrees. They do not currently sell this specific entrée and or starter, but often have a different spin off. Their entrée came with a hefty amount of pork, fresh rice, and a fried egg. Sounds simple but it was quite delicious. The only thing I would bring up is that the pork served was a little too sweet, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Crab risotto was delicious and extremely rich in flavor (definitely recommend it!), but the ramen was very mediocre. there was very little seafood in the dish and the broth was nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, presentation of the dishes was excellent, they have great appetizers, but entrees are average. One thing that upset me was that the waiter overcharged me for the bill. I left an average tip for average service, only to find that he doubled the bill and decided to treat himself with a very generous tip. After a very long day made longer with an evening meeting in Ann Arbor, I was looking forward to a noodle bowl. Headed towards Slurping Turtle, Taste Kitchen beckoned. Later on in the evening, guests were finishing up and the restaurant was emptying out. Taste Kitchen is a casual dining restaurant with a simple aesthetic. A large bar sits in the center, towards the back and TVs line the wall. The restaurant was populated by simple, dark wood tables and chairs, all of them decorated by wildflowers in mason jars, wrapped in burlap. I was looking for something quick so the server suggested the Pho, a very large rice noodle dish with chunks or Amish chicken in a light broth. The piping hot dish came with a perfectly poached egg - still in its shell, still runny - that added richness to the dish. Also served on the side were: bean sprouts, herbs, lime, and two different but complementary sauces (Sriracha and Hoisin), all to flavor the meal. Service was fantastic and a reason for the high rating. The chef stopped by to check on the table and the server (who I believe might also be the co-owner) was attentive throughout the meal. read more

Yum! We had reservations for a Friday night during Michigan's move in weekend, and were seated right away. It was very busy in the restaurant, which is always a good sign. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about the wine list. I tried a new wine that I enjoyed! They also have unique cocktails, which looked good enough that I had to order one after my glass of wine, and it did not disappoint. For food, we shared a cheese plate (great variety of cheeses). They made sure to refill our bread, which was thoughtful. Two of us were also brave enough to try the octopus, which had a delicious flavor but I'm not sure either of us could get over eating octopus! For dinner, we tried the oven roasted salmon, which was on a delicious cauliflower purée with salsa verde and some veggies. Two of us got the grilled Berkshire pork, which - wow - AMAZING. It comes with Brussels sprouts which could have easily been the star of the show, they were that good. The pork was cooked perfectly, sat on a bed of rice, and a fried egg was on top - that made for a delicious meal. The three of us shared the lemon meringue for dessert, which was the perfect combination of sour and sweet. It even won this anti-sweet things person over - I thought it was delicious! Overall, this place was great. The atmosphere is fun and full of energy, the food was delicious, and the drinks were good. I liked this place a lot. Definitely pricey, probably would fit in better over on Main Street, but it was good. Pricey is warranted because all their seafood is caught the day before and overnighted to the restaurant. Let me start off by saying that the waiters are extremely knowledgable. They know every detail down to the exact aromas of each dish on the menu. For starters, we ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Risotto. The risotto was so flavorful and well cooked so that it was neither mushy nor hard. The crab was stringy and soft. It definitely tasted like real crab and not the imitation crab stuff you get at other places. I ordered the Seafood Bouillabaisse for my entree. I can't recall all the seafood in it, but there was salmon, scallop, and shrimp for sure. Given my love for seafood, I had hoped for more seafood in the soup and less onions (because I don't like onions), but again, since the seafood is freshly caught, I am understanding of quality over quantity. I took the rest of the soup home and reheated it the next day with more seafood - it was still good. My boyfriend, with whom I went for dinner, ordered the Pan Seared Scallops. I like seafood, but I usually don't like scallops. However, I did enjoy some of this scallop. Like the crab in my appetizer, it was tender and soft and full of flavor. For dinner, we ordered the Matcha Crème Brûlée and the Coconut Panna Cotta. Basically, the two things I like most - crème brûlée and coconut. They weren't overwhelmingly sweet like a lot of desserts are and they were both just creamy enough to melt in your mouth. Seafood bisque was fabulous but paired with sea bass was a mistake as both were similar base and was too much the same taste throughout. Bouillabaisse was sparse of seafood, broth was good. Would not order it again. The restaurant has a lot of hard surfaces which adds up to be a little noisy. First time at Taste Kitchen and hot take, this is our new favorite spot in Ann Arbor. The food was the best I have had in this town (so far). The service was great and the server had so many great recommendations. We went on a Wednesday so we were able to sit at the sidewalk tables which made for a nice fresh air dinner. We tried a lot of dishes and if I had to recommend the perfect combo: starter- beet salad (if you're craving fresh) or the octopus was delicious, main - grilled Berkshire pork (if you eat pork hands down the best thing on the menu), wine - Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc (fresh and TASTY), drinks - I didn't order one but the ones I saw sounded creative and looked good. We ordered several small plates: Hot: Butternut Bisque, octopus and parsnip puree and Shrimp risotto. The octopus and shrimp are perfectly cooked with a very light crisp on the outside, tender inside.. the parsnip puree is so good, and rich and full that it almost over shadows the octopus! The risotto is rich and creamy but still has texture with small bits of asparagus and mushroom. The butternut squash bisque is easily the best we have ever tried. With these three dishes, we honestly felt so complete but I couldn't leave without trying the scallop ceviche someone tipped me off to. (ceviche slips down so even if you're full, order this!) And after having salmon sashimi, foie gras, Chilean sea bass, filet mignon and a bottle of wine, when we asked for bread we were told that it only came with certain meals. I'm not sure what you have to order to be worthy of bread but I would be shocked to discover that it was more what than we ordered. Our waitress made us feel welcome but the waiter on our team did not. I would not dine here again. Updated to add that the restaurant contacted the other party who had made the reservation. They acknowledged that the restaurant was very loud after the game and "almost" said something to the large table in the center of the restaurant making most of the noise. I'm not sure why they chose not to. They also mentioned this review and my being upset about not getting bread. No, I was upset because our waiter's intention in telling us bread didn't come with our $300 meal was to make us feel badly. That is horrible service. And BTW, nothing on the menu indicated which meals received bread and which didn't so how would we possibly know that? I would also like to add that I'm guessing he is the same person who called us and told us that we would could only be at our table for 2 hours after our reservation, regardless of the blizzard and post game traffic causing our Uber to first cancel, then delay multiple times. The next person we spoke to, a woman, was extremely kind and said to be careful driving and our being late wouldn't be an issue. Had take-out from Taste Kitchen for hubby's Bday recently and still can't stop thinking about the meal. Expertly prepared scallops that survived packing and gentle reheating and tender medium hanger steak that was still tender and beautifully cooked after a brief warm up in the oven... I don't know how they did it, but I'm glad they did. We did the take out cocktails as well which were really nicely balanced and just the right amount boozy. Beware: one of the best places in Ann Arbor is now charging a $25 deposit per person for reservations. When I was last there, part of my party cancelled at the last minute--which I called ahead and informed them of, immediately, before I arrived--but once dinner was over I was told I'd have to pay for the missed reservation. I complained to the manager, who removed that charge, after I pointed out that this was unfair. A reputable business does not charge for services they don't provide. If someone skips out entirely, that's another thing, but sticking a paying patron with a service fee beyond the services rendered is bad business. From now on, if they can't seat me as a walk-in, then I won't be coming--no more reservations under this 'policy.' In fairness, my dinner and the service was excellent. read more

Popped in here with some friends for a goodbye dinner after the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed for renovation, and were all pleasantly surprised. We were able to get a table right away and the vibe was just what we were looking for, a little dressier then a pub but still casual with the chic decor. The menu is not huge, but had plenty of options to satisfy everyone in our group. It is set up a little odd the entire left side was appetizers split up by hot and cold, then on the right was where your main dishes were. I ended up ordering the butternut squash bisque and fish tacos, both were on the hot appetizer list and together they made for a full meal. One of my friends had the duck, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare for her. Another got the scallops and she said they were very good. We tried a couple drinks, all of which were excellent and to finish the meal out we ordered some of their chocolate desserts. I LOVED the bodino squares (they are essentially chocolate ganache in a square shape, very rich and yummy), the order came with three, some whipped cream, raspberry drizzle, and some fresh fruit. Would highly recommend some dessert. We also tried the swiss roll and it was also excellent. Our waiter was very helpful in answering all of our questions about the menu, although it was a little loud in the restaurant and he did not speak very loudly making it hard to hear him in some instances. We went to Taste Kitchen on Christmas Eve. Party of five. We had a reservation, but waited 15 minutes past our reservation time for our table to be ready. I understand about the prior seating taking longer than expected. The issue was that there was nowhere for us to wait. We stood awkwardly by the door. The wobbly couch had coats hanging over it. We were finally taken to our table. It was a table for four with an extra chair on the end to fit the fifth person. Very crowded. For those prices I don't want to be crowded. The appetizers - salmon sashimi and a charcuterie plate - were excellent, but the "charcuterie" plate was really a cheese plate with a few pieces of meat. Later on my bill it was listed as a "cheese plate". That's how it should have been listed on the menu. The cheese was good, but it was not as it was listed. I was expecting charcuterie on my charcuterie plate. They were out of the Chilean Sea Bass as well as a few other seafood dishes. My husband wanted to leave at that point, as he had planned to get the Chilean Sea Bass for Christmas dinner. We stayed. It was Christmas Eve and we weren't going to get in anywhere else without a reservation. I had the duck. I was underwhelmed. I can make better duck myself at home. My son had the filet mignon and loved it. My stepson had shrimp mushroom risotto. He liked the shrimp, but not the mushroom risotto. My daughter had bouillabaisse and loved it. My husband wound up having scallops. They were good, but not what he wanted. He wanted the Chilean Sea Bass. The desserts were excellent. My stepson had the chocolate bodino squares, my son had the creme brulee, and my daughter had the coconut panna cotta. My husband and I did not have dessert. All three desserts were EXCELLENT (I tasted them). My husband was disappointed with the beer options and decided not to have a drink. I was disappointed with the options for wine by the glass. I did not want a whole bottle by myself and there were only a few options for by the glass. The wine was ok. The waitstaff and service were fine. They did a good job with what they had. We expected a really great experience since the dinner totaled about $200 for two people who had no drinks other than water. First thing I noticed was the kitchen staff that appeared to be dressed in random streetwear. Pretty unprofessional for a place that charged these kind of prices. I ordered the filet mignon and it was comparable to a frozen tv dinner. Like one of those ones that says it's steak but then you cook it and it's this weird tough roast beef situation. I was in Ann Arbor for a work function and was invited here for dinner. This was a fusion restaurant and it was a good one. They had a ton of good options as far as appetizers to chose from. Some I wasn't sure what they where. The main courses where simple put amazingly good. I ordered the steak and it was cooked perfect. It came with asparagus and potatoes and a side of mushrooms. I'm not a asparagus fan but did eat some of mine and enjoyed it. My steak was great as well as the potatoes. They brought out a desert that was a piece of fudge with some whip cream and some berries.
