Absolutely the worst Asian food I've eaten. We ordered beef and broccoli and beef cashew. They both tasted exactly the same, just with different vegetables. Portions are enormous. Food doesn't live up to its name, "Taste Grill". Not fresh and a lot like "product" purchased and just heat it up. We had an order to go. After going over my order, I was assured everything was in the bag. When we arrived home, some of the order was incorrect and some of it missing . I always make sure and visit Taste Grill when I'm in town! They were packed today but the service was still very fast and really good! I ended up getting egg drop soup and orange chicken. We've had dine and take out. Take out was better in the aspect of wait time, experience and warmth of food. We love Taste Grill. It's easy on the wallet, plenty of options and the food "can" be good! Our take out experiences have always bee 5 stars. But dine in is lacking. While even with a large party we were seated right away the service was slow and Orders were not accurate. Taste Grill is one of the biggest hit or miss restaurants that I've ever experienced, and it is reflected in the overall sentiment from other Yelpers. The visit that I had with my friends also exemplified this, as our individual experiences varied from decent, to very bad. Taste Grill offers a variety of cuisines including Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. I personally ordered the Thai fried rice with shrimp, and I was pleased with the final product. The rice was cooked well, had a lot of flavor, and even had a kick to it. The shrimp were plentiful and complemented the dish. We all agreed that this was the best item at the table, and is one that I would recommend you order. On the other hand, my friends both ordered Chinese combination meals and were both disappointed in their meals. The combinations come with soup, a variation of an egg roll, entrée, and a choice of fried or white rice. The appetizers were a bad start, the miso soup looked like it had been sitting there for a long time and it certainly tasted that way. The egg rolls had an odd red color that could have been pork, but we weren't certain what it could be. The biggest travesty of the experience was how bad the rice was. One of my friends described the rice as tasting "a month old" and my other friend received cold rice and mushrooms. Perhaps I just got lucky with my Thai fried rice. The entrees themselves were fair, but could not make up for the rice. Although we had varying experiences with the food we could all agree that the general cleanliness was below par. Many of the spoons that were given to us were still dirty, and the waitress picked up my friend's cup from the rim where you drink the water. The restaurant itself at first glance seems worn down. If we were to come back to Boone, I would be hesitant to return to Taste Grill. If you find that one dish that you love from here, stick to it. Venturing off could lead to a sub-par experience like my friends had. Nevertheless, a good restaurant has the consistency and quality to make every choice a viable option, and unfortunately Taste Grill doesn't have the consistency nor quality to be a top Asian restaurant in my book. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in Boone. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered.

The sushi looks pretty but it's literally the worst asian fusion restaurant I've ever been to. The food sucked. I got egg foo young with pork and it looked gross and tasted like a spoonful of grease. The "gravy" looked like sludge. The hot and sour soup was too sour, didn't have black fungus, and was extremely salty. To the owner/kitchen staff: do you taste what you cook before selling it to people? The Thai fried rice tasted awful as well and had two chopped cold tomato pieces on it. It was strange. The service was excellent. There is no atmosphere in the restaurant and tables are sticky. Very polite nice young man was our server and we left a good tip because he was so nice! They give you huge portions with pretty cheap prices and the food is always fresh. I eat here a good amount of times, I might as well as write a review right! So I have been here a handful of times, and so far here is how I feel I think this sushi is good for what you would get in Boone. I have to remind myself I will never find sushi as fresh as when I lived in California's Bay Area. I do really enjoy the service, even when they are BUSY or behind on orders you can tell they are really working behind the bar to make sure they can get stuff done so 5 stars on that forsure. If you are getting the sushi get the specialty rolls, the classics are a little to basic for the price. The only one I have had that I really enjoy actually would be the Godzilla roll, that one stays constant every time I get it. I also feel like they do take covid precautions very carefully so I do recommend even if you sit in to eat. If you are going to order -Pickup= Pretty good, have had no issues with this and its very fast in my opinion, you have to think that this is a sushi place as well and that takes time its not a quick burger so be patient. So I do see the wait as reasonable. -Boone delivery= dont recommend, It took over an hour and half to get my food, and it was kind of soggy once so I'm not a fan. -Dine in= It gets busy, but they have spaced seating, I don't worry about the staff, I worry about the other customers because a lot of them feel inclined to not take safety precautions after they finish, they usually get up massless and walk past everyone to leave. I work three jobs, one of which is DoorDash and having been a server in the past, I can empathize with being busy and the kitchen behind on orders. However that is not the case with Taste Grill, and every time I have an order for this joke of a restaurant I start to have horrible anxiety anticipating the stress of picking up an order. Including the time the online orders are placed, to the time it says it will be "ready"; it will be well over an hour before I can even drop off the customers order. To top it all off, I lose money and my tips go down bc they had to wait so long. I wish the long wait times were the worst part, but it can't even compete with the horrible customer service. Every other restaurant in Boone is amazing, and timely. The waitresses at TG are rude, ugly and have not an ounce of common sense or sense of urgency. For instance tonight there were 10-13 people including kitchen staff that were preparing orders for patrons that were not even there to pick up their food yet. Dozens of bags sit on the counter for 30-59 minutes but will take an hour to bag up sushi and sauces. They were extremely rude to me for asking the eta, they ignore you and will cater to everyone else. I've honestly never experienced such contempt from servers, just for simply asking why there is such a delay. If you're looking for sushi or Asian Fusion foods, Boone and Blowing Rock have expanded a lot with amazing high quality locally owned restaurants; it would behoove you to go somewhere else. read more

It sucks i have to write this review but its only right. First of all its a 2 star because i had a 1 star experience here with my group of 4, but honestly ive had a 4-5 star experience once or twice. Taste has been a go to for a while at least for take out, but its also been a very inconsistent experience. We either have dealt with at least mediocre service, over cooked tough chewy food, or a long wait. Now just having one of those checked off at a time hasnt ever warranted a review but tonight was different. To start our waitress was nearly whispering to us and had just started off our dining experience on the wrong foot. Every remark she made was either rude or she would almost nearly ignore our requests. Our drinks sat empty for nearly 10 minutes at a time probably (mind you we were seated from 5:10-6:50). About 30 minutes into our evening a large family of about 6-7 came and sat a table down from us. In between clearly choosing to serve them over us she would come tell us she would be with us in a moment and those moments felt like closer to about 10 minutes each time. They had their whole meals ordered by the time we could get out appetizers put in. We had to basically rush to even say it to her. And now we are not out to ruin this young woman's night and we were trying to be as kind and respectful as we could, 2 of the friends i was with work in the restaurant industry so they know how a long busy day can be on a waiter/waitress or the cooking staff. I also for one work in customer service and i know you cant carry yourself the way she had been doing tonight. Its not good for business, and its not good for your customers/clients. After waiting nearly 30 minutes for our appetizers it felt like the witching our for NFL Redzone. We waited and waited and waited (then watched the family of 6-7 get their whole table served before us) and waited a little more. My girlfriends food and mine arrived but the couple we were out with hadn't received theirs. After being handed our food the waitress said theirs would be "right out." Well after figuring out that "right out" actually meant an hour we decided to time it. It took closer to 20 minutes for their food to arrive. Heres the part i hate to write, because for 1 their food is normally really good and we are usually happy with it. My friends sesame tofu was as hard as a rock, i am not kidding. You could take it up the road to Mystery Hill and find amethyst geodes in it instead of tofu. Jokes aside it was bad, she was so hungry after waiting an hour and a half for it so she just tried to suck it up and eat it anyways but it just got to the point that was unenjoyable. My poke was good but its hard to mess up, my friends shrimp lo mein was okay but he scarfed it down, and my girlfriends hibachi chicken was some good tender pieces but some really tough chewy pieces. At the end we were approached with the bill question of how it would be split and thats when we gave them our concerns for the service we were given. Now yes maybe we shouldnt have waited but like i said before we were not out to be disrespectful or ruin anyones night so we typically try to not bring up inconveniences. The waitress' face turned sour as she stormed to the kitchen and yelled for the manager "hes mad..." (thats all we heard before she got out of ear shot). The waitress came back and said she could take off 50% of the tofu because "majority of the plate had been eaten and thats the policy there." Which for one just sounds oddly contradictory to the words "customer service." Rightfully so we disputed it and the waitress took the plate and returned to the kitchen talking a storm up. Also my friend maybe ate 25% of the plate i mean she couldn't even chew it. The, what i assume, manager comes to us and apologizes for a busy slammed night apologizing about our food and i mean it just still made no sense. We had been there 2 hours total, a table of 6-7 got served and left probably 25 minutes before us. She offered us the 50% again on the tofu and 10% over the additional meal. Which was acceptable since we were just ready to get back home and do homework. We paid the price but truthfully we weren't happy about it I'm sorry. The lady who approached us at the end who i assume was the manager just didn't do a good job of dealing with us either. Wish i could provide photos but i dont think their was much to document honestly. All in all, look, taste grill is a good place on a good day. But the worst days sting the most. Thank you. read more

The "no taste grill" is more like it. My Orange chicken entree was bland and had no flavor except for a weird background taste. Come on! The crab rangoon had no crab and the red sauce had no flavor. I wish I could review the food but all I can do is leave a 1* review for a waste of 30 minutes earlier today at 1pm. I walked in and stood by the "Please wait here to be seated" sign, only to be walked past and ignored by 3 or 4 employees. When I was finally seated in the booth, two servers walked past my table no less than five times each without acknowledging me or taking my drink order. When the young lady came back by with the table behind mine's soup, the customer interrupted the girl and said, "excuse me but this soup is not even luke warm." Being that I have a cold and was really after the hot & sour soup, I was already strongly considering putting my coat back on and heading for the door. But...I stayed. When the waitress brought the lady her replacement soup (no word whether the second cup was hot or not), she almost walked back past me again, but I guess my stare caught her attention and she finally asked if anyone had taken my drink order. I said "No, but I just want a coke..." She disappeared and scrambled around for another 5 minutes (as I watched her and the others flail around in the open kitchen). When she returned, empty handed, she said, "I'm sorry, what did you want to drink, again?" O.K. I get you are scramblin' but come on...it's a coke, and I've been sitting here looking your way for over 20 minutes. At that point, I made the call and told her how long I had been waiting, and started to put my coat on. I am sure the food may be decent on one of their good days, but I'll never be back to find out. This is my first negative review on Yelp, but being ignored from my first step in the door (by the owner/manager who was sauntering around in the back of the open kitchen), to the experience with the two servers walking by my booth multiple times, I felt the need to make this post. Wow, I'm super impressed with this place. I got delivery to a local hotel with out of town friends. One dinner combo was huge..It fed two of us for two whole days. We also got delicious dumplings. The food varies from OK to very good. Dining in, chances are one or more of these things will happen: Taking forever to order, taking forever for the food to arrive, taking forever to get the bill, or the order is wrong. With all these bad reviews it's hard to understand why this restaurant is so consistently slow in all these aspects without it being addressed. We had lunch today and It will probably be the last time eating there. The place has really gone downhill in recent years. The place was very dirty. Windows were so greasy, you could barely see through them. The floors were in need of mopping and a good sweeping. The floors and tables felt sticky. The walls were dirty. 5 waitstaff were standing behind the counter doing nothing most of the time we were there. When we paid and were asked how everything was, my husband said the place needed a good cleaning. The person said they did the best they could to which my husband replied that one of the people behind the counter could pick up a broom at least. We've been there many times since it first opened.
