I figured some of these reviews had to be stuffed. There's no way an auto garage can get 5 stars. I have never been so wrong. Misha at Taskar was referred to me by my shrink (cars running soundly are good for mental health, too, in case you didn't know). I figured I would give him a try. Every quote I got for the job I needed done on my 2003 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport was a big one: blower fan was out, oil leak, head gasket replacement (I've been dreading this fix for a while now), 150K tuneup/check/belts/etc, and more. At the other shops I got quoted, it was going to run me about $2500 on the conservative side. I was horrified. But I had been saving and saving and saving to make sure I had enough cash on hand to make the repairs without going into debt. The day came that I took my car in to get fixed. He said he could get it back to me in a day, maybe a day and a half, and that the parts would cost about $800, plus $50/hr labor. What? Did you just say a day or day and a half????? And $800?????? I stared blankly at him for a while, and eventually stammered out, "o-o-ok..." I'm sure he was probably wondering why people with severe mental handicaps were being allowed to drive. Either way, I signed off on it, gave him my keys, and went about my day. I had been expecting a week or more. And expecting a $3K bill... I hope he wasn't pulling my leg! When I went to pick up my car (in a day and a half, as promised - and would have been done sooner, but to save me some money on the blower fan, had someone run to the junkyard to get a used one instead of putting in a new one - AND he showed me the receipt from the junkyard!). It was done. Everything was good to go, and he had even (without me requesting it first) saved all the parts for me so I could look them over. It's been a couple weeks now, and my car is running like a champ. I couldn't be happier. Oh, and did I mention that the total came to $1400? Yeah. $1400. A thousand or more dollars less than what I expected. O_O Misha, I think I love you, man. Next time I bake cookies, I'm totally bringing you a batch. read more

When my friend suggested a no-name auto garage "down the street" I was skeptical of course. Who wouldn't be? He swore up and down that Taskar did great work. So I finally took my car to Taskar's for a 30,000 mile maintenance after the stealership wanted $600. Misha, the owner and mechanic quoted me $60 or so. WHAT?! ... STFU! .. No really, I need a 30,000 mile done... There were a few things I didn't need at 30,000 mile of course. But the stealership doesn't tell you that. Since my warranty was going to be up soon anyway, I went for it. After everything was said and done, I walked away with a full synthetic oil change, tire rotation and checks on all my belts hoses ect for $68. WIN. read more

Using Yelp to find a reliable, fairly priced mechanic and auto garage is probably it's greatest potential strength, so I feel compelled to leave a review for Taskar. I've been lucky enough to only need automotive help twice (beyond brakes, oil changes, etc.) in the 10 years of having my vehicle, so Taskar is the only garage I've actually been to. The first time was 4 years ago after my car continued to overheat. Within 2 hours my Protege was fixed and I was charged less than $100 for a new thermostat. I recently had ALL of my belts replaced and a new waterpump installed for around $500, within a day and without any advanced notice given to Taskar. Misha showed me all of the old parts before I left, including the rickety pump and totally ragged belts - not sure if this is common, but it made me feel extra assured in trusting that all of the pieces definitely needed to be replaced. I waver between 4 or 5 stars, but having never actually had a bad experience at a auto garage, I don't have much of a curve to grade on. Regardless, Taskar is definitely now my go-to garage and place to recommend to family and friends. read more

I cannot more highly recommend Misha and his team. A friend first told me about Taskar Garage two years ago and I will not take my car anywhere else. This place is pure gold - a mechanic who knows what he's doing and is honest, fair, and friendly. I have to admit that I know very little about cars, but I do change my own oil. With my limited knowledge, I usually do a round of phone calls to my brother, dad, and boyfriend before taking my car anywhere. It used to be the case that this would serve as a bit of a "test" for the mechanic (if he started getting way off course, my suspicion would be raised). Now, the only purpose it serves is to give me any idea of whether it's a "take it in to Misha right away" problem or a "wait until you have a bit of money, then take it to Misha". Before we discovered Taskar, my boyfriend would offer to fix car problems in order to save me from getting swindled. Now after I call to get a quote from Misha, my boyfriend inevitably says - "that's totally worth it!" And no, he's not just trying to get out of it. ;) Here's an example: I recently told a friend of mine that I needed to get my brakes fixed on my Subaru Legacy. Misha had quoted $340 for fixing both the front and rear brakes. She told me she needed her front brakes fixed on her Subaru Legacy and some other shop was going to charge her $500! For just the front ones! The best part -- I just had him do the brakes last week and as always, the price was EXACTLY as quoted (okay, it was $342...) His quotes even include the tax - he apparently wants to be upfront about your actual cost!! The garage is not far from where I live, but even if I moved 100 miles away, I would honestly still be compelled to drive my car to Taskar for repairs. I love this guy! read more

I brought my 2009 Subaru Outback to Taskar last week based on the stellar reviews and I was not disappointed. I had a random act of misfortune, immediately after leaving the garage and arriving home with the vehicle (I live within a mile or so of the garage). My car began leaking a massive amount of fluid and was not drivable. I had to tow the car back to the garage and they examined the issue. Taskar offered to repair my vehicle without charging for their own labor as they felt responsible for not encountering the problem sooner although it was in a completely different area of the vehicle than they had been working. Despite this random act occurring, and not being their fault in anyway they took care of me as a customer which I appreciate immensely. I will always be a loyal customer going forward. read more

I have been looking for a good auto mechanic in Seattle for about 6 years now and I have finally found him. Misha is the man!!! Simpley put he is Fast, Cheap and most importantly to me, HONEST. I needed some maintenance on my truck. I called three other mechanics in the area to get a bid on the work. All bid around $300. Then I called Taskar....$120!! I was a bit skeptical, so when I took my truck there to get worked on I put him to the test. I asked him to check the condition of my breaks (which I knew were just fine) because I thought it may be time to get them worked on . He said he would call me back after a quick inspection of my vehicle. He called back 30 minutes later and told me my breaks are fine and need no work. Apparently my brakes were metal on metal by that point, and I also needed new calipers. These guys are great. Been here about 6 times now and they always quote me fairly and way under other shops. Just got my alternator replaced yesterday and they quoted me $400. $100 for labor and a $250 part + tax. Took it to Pacific Rim first cause it closer to my house and they quoted me $1100 and then charged me $277 diagnostic fee when I told them I was taking it elsewhere. Long story short, I never leave Taskar feeling like I just got hosed. Will be back. read more

I had a GREAT experience with Taskar Garage. Misha and his crew are honest and hardworking. I called to set up an appointment and he said bring it over whenever it was convenient. As soon as I got there, he diagnosed what was wrong and his staff got to work. I had to have my starter replaced and I was in and out in an hour! My car was acting strange the next day and wouldn't start. It turned out the part from the manufacturer was faulty. Misha took care of everything from towing to fixing the part no problem and got me on my way. I can't say enough good things. They are great. I found out when I lived near by. They're great because: - Still $50/hr labor (says so on the wall!). Yes, it's suspiciously low in the city of $95/hr labor, but really, they do a good job. - Always do what I tell them at a cheap price. Granted, I never say, "I have some weird noise" or something. E.g., needed a new radiator and it was one hour of $50 for labor, a tiny bit for coolant, and cheaper than Schucks for the radiator (only $124). - Super quick I highly recommend them. read more

Its hard for me to trust mechanics. I never know if they are being honest with me or not. I often feel that I paid too much or didn't get good service or my problem wasnt sufficiently fixed. When I first went to Taskar and saw Misha, after speaking with him on the phone, I didnt trust the guy (because of my lack of trust for mechanics), and thought that he was very short with me and had bad customer service. After getting my car back (its been about 3 years, not sure what I first came in for), my problem was completely resolved and Misha fixed it for a very good price. It didnt take long to realize that Misha is all business, he is extremely focused and doesn't waste time on fake smiles and meaningless stories. He prefers to cut straight to the chase. Tell him what is wrong with your car, he will tell you when he can fix it, approximately how long it will take, and approximately how much it will cost to fix it. After you get your car back, and it is fixed, and for a good price, you realize that you didnt need a fake smile or a meaningless story either. You came there to get your car fixed, and Misha did that. When he knows he fixed your car for a good price, then you will see a smile from him, and when you do you will know its real, and you too will be smiling. Best car repair shop in Seattle. I had my engine replaced on my 2009 Audi A4 and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I've been to a number of other repair shops (dealer and non-dealer), and these guys are definitely the best. They found a used engine for me that was much less than I expected it would cost and the labor cost was also lower than I expected. Even though they were less expensive than other repair shops, the service was better. They not only replaced the engine, but also fixed a range sensor issue on the car. My car runs better than when I bought it 5 years ago. I know they put a lot more time in replacing the engine than originally anticipated, but they still honored the quote they gave me before starting the work. Timing belt replacement is probably the costliest scheduled maintenance item most cars require. My 1998 Accord needs one every 105,000 miles, and was over 110,000 on this one, the 2nd. I'd been putting it off trying to fit it into the budget. This is an important job to have done right so my first call was to the dealer. Even with the "special" the quote was over $1200.00, plus tax. I knew I could do better so went on Cars.com, and found "certified" shops that would do it for $8-900. Finally went on Yelp and discovered highly regarded Taskar Garage, just blocks from my house. I've had good luck with Yelp before, and it's also fun to check your current providers. Taskar Garage has the "request a quote" feature on Yelp so I did, and was quite pleased with the estimate I received, lower than any of the others. Time to get it done! They got me in 2 days later, and the service was done the same day. When I got the bill it was actually lower than the quote, not more than like most shops. And they had done everything, timing belt, water pump, new seals, belts, tensioners, etc., and the parts prices were better than I could find anywhere. I just took the car for an 80 mile drive and it's running great. I will absolutely be going back to Taskar Garage! Not only quality work and great prices, but friendly, organized, and clean! They care about the customer and it shows, right down to the hand-written invoice, saved old parts, and look under the hood to show me what they had done. The first time I took my vehicle in it was towed in. Misha called me and said there is nothing wrong with your vehicle. I picked it up and was pretty happy he didn't start digging into it looking for issues that (essentially) didn't exist. The next time I took it in he fixed everything I mentioned (NOTE: He will fix only the issues you mention - not extras that are not necessary). Misha is a honest man. Do not expect him to take it upon himself to fix issues you do not mention. His price is medium but worth it. I just had the oxygen sensor replaced for my 2004 Honda Civic here today, and I felt hurt. This is going to be a super long review. To sum up: OUCH, I was ripped off. I live in California and drove to Seattle to spend the summer. My check engine light has been on and off for some time, and it was on again, so I decided to have it taken care of right here at Seattle. Had a guy at the O'Reilly at the University Village to do the scanning and got the trouble code. Asked the auto repair shop beside the O'Reilly to take a look at it, he said the code didn't tell exactly what was wrong, and he needed to spend *a couple of hours* to diagnose, and the diagnosis alone would cost $110 plus tax. I went away. Apparently I don't know a mechanic in this area that I can trust, and I turned to Yelp and found Taskar Garage. A nearly perfect rating. I decided to go to this one. I grew up in another country in a family without a car. I've only owned my car for two years and it has never had a problem. So I basically know nothing about cars. Going to the mechanics alone is the last thing I wanted to do because it seems so intimidating. But I had to, because I'm going on a trip to Vancouver tomorrow and I was so determined to have my car fixed before the trip. No one is available to go to the garage with me on a Monday. I felt I need to have some sense about what was wrong before I go to the mechanics. So last night, I gave the trouble code report to my boyfriend. I asked him to do some research on it. After spending an hour doing research, he told me it seemed like I need to replace a part called "oxygen sensor", could be "upstream" or "downstream"; the price of the parts, if bought online or in an auto shop, ranges between $40 - $160. It should be an easy replacement which takes under half an hour for an experienced mechanic. Having these key words and price ranges in mind, I went to Taskar Garage today by myself. Right after I got there, Misha looked at the report, opened the hood, and asked Don to phone someone asking the availability of the parts, upstream oxygen sensor. At this point I was glad - not much BS about getting the problem diagnosed or something. After the phone call Don told me right away the part was going to be $275 and labor around $60. I was a bit concerned about the price, but I didn't bring it up because I didn't want them to think that I don't trust them. And I thought that it might be something that was different from what my boyfriend told me. Anyways, I trust them, so I said, okay, when can you have it done? I also asked Don what was the parts that I need to replace, he said he would show me after the work was done. They ordered the parts right away, had it delivered immediately, and I got my car back in less than an hour. Parts $273, labor $40, supplies $5, Tax $30, for "Replace Up Stream Oxygen Sensor". They didn't show me anything other than the bill. I did a quick Google search for "up stream oxygen sensor" after I went home, and was shocked to know how much it actually costs - right, you can buy it online for as low as $40, it's nowhere nearly as hight as $275. Based on other Yelp reviews, Taskar Garage may be honest to local people, but here I am, intimidated petite Asian female with zero knowledge about cars coming in alone with a California license car, the service was definitely overpriced. read more

I found this place while searching Yelp for a reliable and affordable car repair place. I had received a quote for a motor replacement from another shop in Ballard and it seemed awfully high, especially because it didn't include a motor. Along with Yelp, I asked an older friend and resident of Ballard if he'd heard of a good garage, and he mentioned Taskar. I stopped by, spelled out my issue and needs, and the owner Misha bluntly laid out several options. I liked that because there were options from lower to higher priced and the risks involved with each. He gave me two phone numbers, as well as called both places while I was in the office. He confirmed a price for a new motor and a used motor and then, like I mentioned, gave me the numbers and said once I figure out which route I wanted to go, he'd be happy to put it in for X amount of dollars. His price was great to me, especially considering the almost triple price a had received from another shop close to my house. I picked the used motor option and the yard I purchased if from dropped it off in Taskar's parking lot. I brought in my car and within a couple days I picked it up. It started right up and sounded nice. I unintentionally chirped the tires on the way out, and though I didn't mean to, it was nice and reassuring that the motor had some oomph coming out of the gate. Overall I give Taskar high ratings because my experience with them/him was great from the start. I liked that I was given options and also when I asked Misha what he would do if it was his car, he told me honestly. I was out making deliveries for a friend when I noticed my hood was smoking. I quickly drove to Jiffy Lube where they told me that my radiator had busted. They referred me to Taskar. Mishka told me it would be around 2hrs wait time and to expect to pay $200. This was a price I was ok with, considering replacing a radiator is $200-400 and well, it needed to be done. It only took them an hour to replace my radiator. They also changed my oil and replaced my cooling hoses. The total was $194. I'll go back here if I ever need anything else done. read more
