I chose to use Target for my baby registry because you advertised easy and lenient returns, and because if I needed to return something, I wanted to be able to go to a store and deal with an actual person. These are the only reasons why I chose Target over Amazon because frankly, Amazon's prices and selection are better. Yesterday at your Moorpark CA location, I tried to return items that I had received multiples of at my baby shower. I explained to the customer service manager, Kevin, multiple times that they were items from my registry, and he insisted that since I had no receipt and did not have the card used to purchase the items he could only give me the lowest price over the past 2 years. He wanted to give me less than a dollar for each item. When I asked for the number for corporate, he refused to give it to me. I chose not to return the items and went home. Once I got home, I looked up the registry return policy on my own, and saw that you do in fact honor the full price of items on my "purchased" list on my registry. I then, at 35 weeks pregnant, got in my car and drove to another Target, your location in Simi Valley CA on Madera. I showed the girl at customer service my purchased list, and she was able to return the items for full price, however, she was only able to give me a merchandise return card only to be used in the store even though no where on your registry return policy does it state that items can only be returned for merchandise return cards and not gift cards to be redeemed online. The problem with this is that I was wanting to use my 15% off registry completion discount on an over $600 purchase online and was depending on the credit I got from this return to be able to do that. The customer service girl (I didn't get her name) tried to be very accommodating, but every time she tried to get help from her manager, Kim, Kim completely dismissed her. When I tried to explain the situation to Kim she told me to just use the 15% completion discount in the store. Really? Target, you must know your children's buyers department is failing. There is almost no selection in the store. The only item of my $600 purchase that I could find in the store was a $7.99 pack of socks. So now my options are to eat the $100, which was what the return ended up totaling to, or spend it on things that I don't really need for my child. But for Kim to even suggest that I use my 15% off discount on a $100 purchase after I explained I have a $600 shopping cart online was absolutely ridiculous. I can't say I will never shop at Target again, because I know that doesn't mean a damn thing to a corporation like Target. But truly, I feel used. I had over 70 guests at my baby shower. Every single gift I received, from as small as a pack of diapers to as big as my travel system and crib, was purchased at Target because I chose to use Target's gift registry. Target profited thousands of dollars off of my decision to make my registry through them, and I was dicked around by not one, but two managers for $100, which is a drop in the bucket for Target. This is insulting and I cannot believe I was treated this way.
Ultimately, this was resolved by calling your customer service number. I was issued an e gift card for the amount of the merchandise return card, so I am now able to make my intended purchase online. The man that I spoke to at customer service was very professional, and handled this situation with kindness. However, the fact that I had to take so many steps to resolve this issue speaks volumes about Target as a company. Target, your one leg up on Amazon is that you have brick and mortar stores where customers can interact with employees face to face. But if this is how you treat customers at 35 weeks pregnant, or during other vulnerable times in your life, then I might as well not have the face to face interaction altogether. read more
