Before the larger store was built in western Simi Valley (Tierra Rejada and Madera), the Moorpark Target was where we used to do most Target runs. While I like many of the shops & restaurants in the Moorpark Marketplace, the Target had started falling behind in appeal. Especially after they closed the garden shop, I didn't find reason to go there very often. Last night, I was on the hunt for a particular item at the S.V. West store, but I couldn't find it there. Online, they showed as supposed to have it, but in limited quantities. The Target app indicated that there was one unit at the Moorpark store, so Dear Hubby and I headed over. First thing I noticed is a sign on the exterior saying that they've remodeled. Well, okay - let's see what that's like. It's definitely lighter and brighter than I remember. They'd spruced up the swim shop area. It was 42 degrees outside in mid-February, but by all means, let's be pushing swimwear right now! They've added a whole section with Ulta Beauty branding, which sits across the center aisle from their normal beauty area. The latter also gets a boost from new cool lighting overhead, which draws attention to the space. After wandering around the kitchen appliances area and almost giving up on the one thing I was there to buy, I found it several aisles over on an endcap featuring GreenPan merchandise. Happily scored the multi-mode cooker to replace a quite well-used Crockpot. It's time for an upgrade. Now, for the same storage space I have an appliance that can steam, stew, sauté, as well as slow cook. They've added a mini Starbucks, too. Our cashier was very friendly, especially after I returned her greeting and asked how she was doing. Works miracles! As I write this and remember how the experience went, I upped 3.5 stars to 4 stars. This is definitely an upgrade over the last time I visited this location.

Extremely poor ergonomics, ADA or not.

Toilet paper holder is mounted SO low it's almost impossible to reach the paper. And oh that paper.... At home we use double ply. At this Target I think they use HALF ply. It's so thin you have to use about FOUR FEET for each handful just to get anything useful. And trying to pull it out of the dispenser it keeps tearing. I put a piece over my phone, the paper is SO thin you can read through it! Sad - and difficult.

Does your store offer refill for dish soap and shampoo if I bring in my own bottles? Where do u find the answer? How long does a reply take?

I've never seen anything like that here. You'd have to just get new product and refill it yourself.

This adorable shop is still packed with Christmas / wintery cheer. There's so much to see. It's a visual feast for the eyes, and it's so inspiring to amp-ing up your seasonal style. The friendly owners can help direct you to a particular theme within the store. From actual vintage items, to vintage-inspired new merchandise, there's so much from which to choose. (Snowmen! Giant jingle bells! Candle holders! Snowflakes! Miniature Christmas trees!) There're a lot of red and white accents, but also white & natural / rustic options, as well. I didn't take a lot of photos this time. Shame on me! I was so engrossed in just taking it all in. I did pick up a few items to expand on a particular theme in our kitchen / dining room. They do feature furniture pieces. This time of year, more emphasis is on decorations of all types. They also carry stocking-stuffer choices like hand creams, soaps, candles, jewelry, and more. There's still time to shop. They're open Tuesday through Sunday. They have been staying open till 7:00 on December Friday evenings. They may do that on the 22nd, but I'd call to verify. Take a break from overcrowded shopping venues and enjoy warmth and inspiration at Ambiance.

Would love more time to browse this charming collective of vintage dealer spaces…read more After initially discovering this wonderful treasure of a boutique several months ago, we have returned multiple times. Dear Hubby has been super happy to learn of Mike's Clocks, especially. DH retired as a jeweler and watch enthusiast/dealer, and the love runs deep still. I was cleaning and found a unique acrylic-surround clock from the late 50s or early 60s that he'd forgotten about. He took it to Mike for cleaning and evaluation. In a couple days Mike called and said that cleaning and lubricating was all it needed. He gave tips for how to keep the movement safe (use it on a surge protector, as a power spike would likely fry the works). I fell into the rabbit hole of one of their crafty vendors who makes letter signs out of found metal objects. Creating a "J" out of a claw hook, topped with a bottle opener, fastened to a distressed piece of wooden board is an example of the craftiness. All of the pieces utilize things that might have been discarded as old, beat-up, possibly no longer useful. Their rag-tag appearance, when repurposed into new display pieces celebrates American manufacturing, back in its heyday. The hardware also reminds me of all the "pieces - parts" my grandfather used to collect in his garage. Nostalgia for days! We now own four of these small remnants of the past, but that may not be the end of it. The shop owners encourage diving into collecting the letters, by having displays spelling out "SPRING", "CELEBRATE", etc. Possibilities are endless! The various vendors do a wonderful job of freshening their spaces, keeping current with seasonal changes. Some of the accent furniture is repurposed, having undergone a milk paint treatment. Great prices, friendly staff. Keep a sharp eye out for treasures, lest another shopper snag one before you do!

Both my husband and I fell in love with Japanese design and craftsmanship a few years ago on our first trip to Japan. Since then, we've been drawn to various Japanese shops and stores around LA. There are a couple great shops for housewares around southern California - but we never found a shop that carried Japanese made furniture. My husband happened upon Ookkuu's website while looking for lighting - and we were shocked to find that they carried a number of items by famous Japanese architects and industrial designers that we'd never imagined we'd find in the states. We're lucky to have this shop in South Pasadena - I don't think there's a shop like it elsewhere in the states. Their showroom is on the second floor of an office building, don't be fooled - they love walk-ins! The showroom is small - but they carry quite a few of the items from their website. It's amazing what they can fit in there. It's definitely worth a visit to see these pieces in person. They also have a few small items like glassware, incense, plates and paper lanterns. They get new pieces in pretty regularly - so it's nice to go back often. Can't say enough great things - we'll be back when we decide to make our next purchase!
