I drive by two Targets on my way home the Watertown location and this one. MAN I love me some Target and I am in one about once a week. So easy everything I need in one place. Now, I need to say that I only am in here on weekdays after 7, which is when I like to go shopping anywhere. Who does weekend shopping? Oh that is right! EVERYONE WITH ANNOYING FAMILIES AND SCREAMING CHILDREN. If you grew up on earth you know this. AVOID SHOPPING ON SUNDAY IF YOU HATE CROWDS AND BABIES. Now that I got that anger out. THIS is the Target I prefer. The layout makes sense, the staff is always pleasant borderline friendly. Which is awesome when you are a cashier. My only complaint is that the Starbucks is AWFUL. SUCH A TEASE. They really need to train the kids there like they work at Starbucks not Target. South Bay is a great shopping plaza and not really shady at all. Being from Minnesota, I'm a big fan of Target! Whether is a Targét Boutique or a Targetto; they both serve their purpose. This Target Store is the latter. There is always a security guard at the entrance and the exit. There is always a line at the hotdog stand and the layaway. And on days when its over 90 degrees outside, its always full of people getting free Air Conditioning. The nice part is, they always have the high end ($50+) items in stock. Last week I wanted a vacuum that was on sale for $99. Since I don't have a car this required some planning ahead. I called to make sure they had one left. They did and the woman on the phone offered to put it on hold for me since it was the last one. Since we were using a ZipCar, we had little time to waste. I was able to run in, grab the Hoover, a gallon of milk and a case of Dew and I was out of there in no time. Target rarely lets me down, and this location is no exception. read more

As a newcomer to Boston, this was my first run-in with Dorchester and, despite being told not to venture into these parts of town, I was desperate for a Target date and the South Bay center is the closest by bus (no T stop nearby). Like all other Targets, clad in red, this location offers everything you need... but I was a little disappointed with the layout... for instance, the cleaning supplies (brooms, dusters, etc) are a couple of isles away from the cleaning chemicals and soaps. I know it seems like a silly thing to mull over, but it makes a difference when you're pressed for time... you definitely DON"T want to be waiting around for the next bus. Anyway, the employees were super helpful (they don't look it, but they are) and I was relieved that they all spoke English... where I come from, they don't and that can get really frustrating. I like excitement, I enjoy living on the edge, although trying to walk across the parking lot at Target is probably the closest I will ever get to extreme sports. I feel like I'm on the frogger game, from Atari. You start to go but then someone zooms around the corner and then next thing you know your running your zigging and zagging, your jumping back and forth then if your lucky you look up and vou've made it across. Once you make it into the store you will immeadiately notice one thing, how messy it is. Really messy. Avoid the DVD & CD area, you can never find what you are looking for. I like to scour for sales and clearance,(oldest of 6, I'm not cheap just frugal) but lately not good quality sales. Avoid customer service, they are not friendly or helpful. read more

This Target is rather large, and the women's clothing section provides lots of options. (FYI: They're currently stocking bikinis, so check it out if you're lucky enough to be Spring Break-bound.) With that said, this location can get a bit rough. I think people in the parking lot intentionally try to jump in front of cars, and I've been whistled at too many times for my liking. There are usually cops (real cops, not mall cops) posted inside or outside the store. I'm not sure if this is good or bad. The cash registers at this Target are magic. Yep, that's right! Magic. These registers pull numbers out of thin are that are *close* to what the shelf price advertised, but often slightly higher. Sometimes much higher. When this happened to all three of our group making purchases in a single trip, we realized that it was not just a fluke. And it's happened probably about 50% of the times that I've gone back. The $26 shelfing unit rang up at $32, the $14 hairdryer was $16. And this is BEFORE taxes. Ladies and gentlemen, I cannot urge you enough to keep an eye on your receipts here!! I don't know how they get away with it, but as far as I'm concerned, it's STEALING. If you notice any discrepancy before leaving the store, the Customer Service Desk will send someone out for the shelf tag, which they may or may not find, but if they do they will reimburse you because obviously they know it's wrong. See? I'm always surprised when I see reviews like the one I see on here for a place like Target. Its friggin Target people COME ON. I have never had an experience with a rude employee here EVER. I mean, I know my way around a department store like heat seeking missle knows its way to an enemy target but... even most of the checkout girls have always been nice to me. The only reason I take off a star is because I find they dont rotate their stock as much as other targets I have been to. Maybe thats just a recent thing with the economy but not having many places to shop in the southie/dot area.. I'd like to see new merch more often. As far as the angry employee who reviewed on here... I can only imagine the idiots that are in this place but it comes with the "working in retail" territory. It's your run of the mill Target, but lately, I'm noticing that a lot of things are pretty much sold out, and they don't seem to be restocking. And those items seem to be the ones I'm looking for. When I first started working in the South End, people at the office would talk about the Target nearby. Only they didn't call it Target, or even the Tar-get (french emphasis), they called it the Targhetto. For a long while, they had atypical Target bags. They weren't the normal, nice Target bags, they were basically grocery bags with the Target logo. Frequent Target shoppers will understand the difference. Even the Target in East LA has regular Target bags. I thought that was funny. Now, the Targhetto has the normal bags. All is right with the world. read more

I think this place gets a bad rap. Having moved in across the overpass in Southie a month ago, I was excited to have a Target so close, until I read the reviews here. After reading the reviews, I tried to avoid going over to South Bay until I absolutely had to, and then I braced myself for the worst And you know what... I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the parking lot is busy, but even on Memorial Day weekend there were plenty of spots as long as you didn't mind walking a bit. And on several occasions, I've had cars stop and wave me out of an aisle when I was trying to leave. Inside, the store is fairly well put together. It was clean, nobody stole my cart, and most sections were fairly well stocked. The employees are standard retail drones for the most part, but I was treated very well by most of the cashiers I dealt with. This is your average 3 star retail location, but they get an extra star for having shuttle bus service over to the Andrew Square T stop for those folks without a car. One minor caution: South Bay is in Dorchester, and as such it's usually a fine place to visit during the day. However, if you're the type that clutches the keychain mace in your pocket every time you have walk out to your car alone at night, I'd skip walking over here alone in the late evening. I doubt you'd have any trouble, but there are generally some folks hanging around out front in the evening to catch the bus, and this probably isn't your scene. read more

I go to this Target because it's only a 5 min drive from my place, but every time I go, I want to slap myself in the head. Parking is an evil bitch & while hubby deals with that, I go on the quest for that elusive shopping cart, only to discover the one I have found either has a huge child's seat or turns sharply to the left (thus becoming an ankle bruiser for fellow patrons & I have to swear to them that honestly, I'm not trying to run them down). I only really shop here for cleaning supplies & health supplies like shampoo & whatnot. It never fails that I'll put some things in my cart & then walk up the next aisle sans cart to get something else(because evil carriage from hell is impossible to push) - only to return to no cart. Cart thieves are vicious in this store & unless you have like a 10 lb box of litter (which I've found is a nice deterent), your cart will go missing if you let it leave your sight for a moment. Also, if you happen to have a cart, don't try to wander through the clothing section - it will never fit through the you-need-to-be-a-Barbie-doll to fit aisles. I don't know how anyone walks through that department without hyperventilating because it's so closed in. I love coming here because the prices and the sales are great. I like this Target because it's convenient and I get most of my household items here. The aisles are clean, the products are usually stocked and the service is friendly. The only complaint I have is the lines on a Friday and Saturday night. I have a great turquoise, orange, and green 3-mixing bowl set. The MBTA should make a subway that goes to Target, which you can enter from underground, like the Macy's at downtown crossing. This Target is, well ... well, it's scary! That's right, I said it. Like others have said, it is a war zone if you are trying to get there on the weekend. Parking is a nightmare to say the least and the store is a mess. Honestly, if you can AVOID going to this Target, I definitely recommend it. If you're not fluent in a dozen languages, if you don't have comprehensive auto insurance or an active prescription for Xanax ... just avoid it. However, if you're like me and you can't be trusted to roam the Target aisles by yourself without spending over a hundred bucks worth of stuff, go here. There is practically never enough shopping carts so you're limited to with what you can carry. Furthermore, the aisles are a mess and 99% of the other customers are rude and obnoxious so you really just want to get out of there. This is a very nice Target. Well stocked, clean. The staff was very friendly. The toy aisles were clean and well stocked in spite of the fact that this was in the midst of the holiday buying season, and the satff was very helpful in helping me find specific items. The store is well laid out. I do have to give give kudos to their customer service: I thought I had forgotten some stuff I paid for and I could not find my receipt:: I called them, they looked my purchase up on the system and were able to help me out. The WORST Target ever! I'll give it to them that the aisles were clean and well stocked, but that's it. The first hint of how horrible this place was...NO CARTS IN THE STORE. We seriously stood there, baffled, trying to figure out if carts were elsewhere. After a minute of realizing that there really were no carts, we went outside to go get one. It seems nobody here has cart duty. Second hint that this Target location sucked....employees all over the place at least in twos or threes just talking, goofing off, messing around loudly instead of working. Ghetto. Why not go outside and grab some carts??? Last but not least was the worst check out and customer service ever. We went to Lane 6, staffed by "Cindy". The girl needs some manners, and probably some training a long with the rest of the young employees here. First of all...instead of greeting us hello, she turns to the person at the Pizza Hut counter and puts both hands up to him like "what?" Like she was hitting up someone. Then she turns around and starts to scan our purchases without so much as a smile or hello, and proceeds to turn around to the cashier directly behind her and whines about some email that really pissed her off. I could not believe the first thing she did, but this really topped it off. I swear she continued to complain about that email, that I rarely got to see anything but the back of her head. I was lucky I was able to get a glimpse of her name tag. When we were done paying, no "Thank You." She also never bothered to put all the bags in the cart to make up for her rudeness or lack of service. I won't ever be returning to this location. The layout of this Target is a little baffling (women's clothes across from electronics? guess I can keep a better eye on my beau that way). BUT it's a much bigger Target than Everett and Somerville. The grocery section is HUGE with full cases of refrigeratables instead of a few measly doors full of dips and TGI Fridays appetizers. The store is very clean (per Target policy) and the sections of are well marked. I saw lots of employees out in the aisles on my last trip. And for a Saturday in December, though they were all out of carts, it wasn't that crowded. The clothes section is massive, and I look forward to perusing it more and more. The pet section is also very large, and is suitable when you can't get all the way to Petco or Petsmart. The parking lot layout has some weird dividers and is ALWAYS going to be crowded, but there's certainly no shortage of parking space. All in all... this is a pretty decent Target. There's a decent grocery section, enough stuff that you can avoid going to stop and shop. This is Boston's target.... and all of boston goes here. Had an assignment to pick up some toys for my kids. Dropped in around 11ish P.M. Couldn't find what I was looking for and grabbed the wrong item probably. The male cashier was not helpful at first, forgot his name cause he blows... And then approached the woman Mgr trying to help and was trying to match the price but cartwheel didn't work as I got the wrong item and she said I only can purchase four as I had eight in hand. I need to get more toys on sale in preparation for Xmas. Anyways, I left and came back and asked an associate to check the sku number to see if it was in stock and it was. Some toys were not available but three associates assisted me with the search. Very helpful! They went to the inventory storage and grabbed me four items. He then walked me up to another cashier, a young lady who rang me up. The woman Mgr saw me and hollered: "he can't buy no more as he already did!" The first male cashier who helped me earlier responded that I did not make any purchase and so that rude Mgr got 1 star taken off on this review. I love Target, they're typically pretty clean, well organized, and offer anything you could possibly need. What I love most however, are those cute little bins of $1 items when you first walk into the store. I own every pair of socks from that section. Anyway, they also have great clothes. Their athletic gear does not disappoint. They've also recently began to offer groceries which is a nice touch. And their Market Pantry line is good stuff! There are of course a few down sides... the toy aisle is always trashed, the weekends tend to be a bit ghetto, and the cashiers have no concept of customer service. On every single occasion, I've completed entire transactions with the cashier not even saying hello... and I mean, after I've spoken to him/her. You say hello, they swipe your items, you expect to hear a total, they motion their eyes towards the screen, you say "thank you, have a nice day," they hand you a receipt. It really is the worst when it comes to service, but if can set that aside, its a pretty decent place... easy to get to, and they always have parking! read more

I've not trying to pick on this Target. I've been to several other Targets, and they are basically the same, but there is something special about this one. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the "Dollar Deals" merchandise at the front of the store thrown all over the floor, like a tornado ripped through. Maybe it's the emotional roller coaster I ride when I see they have a sale on my favorite razor cartridges, but only the empty packaging, bkuz some1 stole them ... and it wuz the last 1. :( Perhapz it's finding frozen foods thrown on linens, or the bulletproof Segway security scooter, rowdy lines, slipping on wrappers from unadvertised "samplez" and general chaos I experience each time I shop in here? You srsly do not witness this much PANDEMONIUM @ the Somerville Target or the Target in Salem, NH ... maybe @ the one in Watertown, bkuz that whole plaza is a fucking disaster... but I'm just sayin' wut I've been seein'! I love strolling through this Target like a zombie from a George Romero film. This particular Target is decently run, mostly clean and organized and I've never had a bad experience with the staff. The complaint I do have though is with some of their stock. In some departments, such as electronics, the available stock rarely matches the display models. On a recent trip to buy an alarm clock, there were approximately 15 models on display but only two models actually for sale. read more

Okay, so this Target is okay in sense that it's everything that I need all in one place. It's NO super Target like the new one in Stoughton but it does have everything from clothes to books to electronics to food to home stuff. It's messy and I tend to avoid it on the weekends. The people that work here are rude, at times. The people that shop here are even worst. I once was escorted out because I had my 20 pound puggle sitting in the shopping cart not bothering anyone!! WTF!? How can you hate on a puggle?? People let their children run wild in here, getting in my way almost every time that I go here. I have urges to kick children by the time that I leave here. Target is dangerous. More often than not, I'll walk into the store with no intentions on buying a single thing and walk out with things I didn't need in the first place! All Targets are becoming even more convenient by opening up a grocery section in the store, where you're able to get anything now from fresh fruit to a turkey or ham for Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner. What's not to love?! This one review, though, is based on my Black Friday shopping experience. I waited outside in the numbing cold at 9:30pm of Thanksgiving Day only to get in when doors opened at 1:00am. Although chaotic, my friends and I were able to score a LCD/HD TV, 4 comforter sets, an electric toothbrush, and a Christmas tree, all at amazing prices. Even better? All hands were on deck to make way for the crazy post-Thanksgiving shoppers; the Target employees were as helpful as they could be given the circumstances, customers were directed appropriately, and there was hardly any line at the cashiers to check out! Amazing! We were out of there so fast: while we were parking up my car to leave, we still saw some suckers at Best Buy at the other side of South Bay still waiting outside! Ha! It's always been very well organized and I've always been able to find everything that I need, including a package of just TWO space bags. I didn't want to have to buy a whole new set just because one bag broke and I thought another would go soon, so I was really hoping to buy two or three and it was perfect. Imagine what Black Friday at Target is like. Every time I have gone in this store, that is the craziness I witness. The place is a complete mess and I always hear a lot of screaming (from children who are running amuck, their parents and other shoppers)... and don't let the previous reviews fool you... that is at primetime on weeknights... not just weekends (although I agree that weekends are worse). Sure, the location is convenient. But for my own sanity, I choose to go to the Targets in Hanover or Stoughton, which are always clean, calm and well-stocked. I'm hoping that the Target opening in South Shore Plaza this fall will not be a repeat of the one at South Bay Plaza. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. read more

I only have one experience with this Target. I needed 30 pairs the same womens' shoe for the kids I work with and the lady on the phone in the shoe department was very helpful, albeit a bit curious about my bulk order of womens' shoes. I believe I now know how Al Bundy must have felt at his job. The lady went in the back room to check sizes and told me why a 7 and a 7 wide were not comparable. She even called in for backup for me and helped me find similar shoes in all the sizes I needed. Also, they had a better selection and availability than Payless. Starbucks fears the dot (Dorchester) so we settle for institutional Starbucks at Target in South Bay. It was here that I fell in love with Salted Carmel Squares, Starbucks new tasty little confection that has caramel, fudgy chocolate and flaky pastry base in an easy to rationalize size. I'll only have two or three, look how dainty they are. I don't remember what I bought the day I discovered the carmel squares but I was standing in the aisle in front of the coffee counter raving about how good they were. "Have you tried the carmel squares? They're awesome!!!" Slightly crazed? Of course, but that's not unusual for this Target location. I'm just crazy in my own unique way. The Starbucks here is the most institutional cafeteria like personality devoid Starbucks I've ever been in. Kind of reminds of Dunkin Donuts. Refreshing to see Starbucks so far off the mark. Now I remember what I got in the store. It was my annual, or bi-annual sock upgrade. Does anyone else feel a slight sense of shame browsing the clothing racks in Target? I look over my shoulder nervously when I'm checking out the polyester high wicking "athletic" wear ready to duck and low-crawl to avoid being spotted. Would it really be that bad? After spending the least amount of time possible, oh... and I got a pair of jeans too. They do carry some in size 29" length. Can't stand stores that carry only 30" length jeans. If I buy 30's I have to pay to shorten them or look like an idiot with pants that are too long. Shopping at Target has me wondering if I might need therapy. I seem pretty self conscious, don't I? They don't have any fresh fruits or vegetables here but you'll find aisles and aisles of junk food all the way in the back. When I first moved to Boston a few months ago, I was looking to go to a Target. I found this one on Yelp and was very hesitant to go because of the very poor reviews. In my experience, though, it is really not that bad! Pros: - It's a typical Target! It has everything - clothes, shoes, household items, a full grocery store, pharmacy, etc. - There is a LARGE parking lot, and in the 10 times I've gone, I have never had trouble finding a space. - Close proximity to other big stores (Best Buy, Marshalls, Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, Famous Footwear, Stop and Shop...) Cons: - It gets pretty busy at peak times, which can cause longer lines and some shelves to have low selection (but this is true at ANY store, especially any Target!) Overall: I don't know why this store only has 2.5 stars - it's not the flashiest store I've ever been to, but it is a great Target! read more

My aunt and uncle back in the Mitten call Target the 'Hundred Dollar Store.' 'You go in for chapstick,' they say, 'and come out with a hundred bucks worth of stuff.' And it's true. Target has almost everything. I like the South Bay store because it's right on the bus line, so it's easy for me to get to from either work or home. There's great home stuff, cheap work clothes, and a million other things for your inexplicably drop a hundy on. It's not the greatest Target in the world (that one is by my parents' house, IMHO, but just because it's the one I'm used to), but it's fine. This place is hell. It looks like a war zone every time I've gone. My bf drags me there Because its close to his house but i always feel like im going to get shot either in there or in the Parking lot. There's shampoo squeezed out of the bottles, there's empty food packages lying around and I've seen perishable stuff just sitting in the magazine rack. Their customer service is incompetent, and I've had total nutters check me out half the time I've shopped there (one lady insisted, INSISTED, that each item be placed in its own bag. After I BROUGHT MY OWN DAMN BAG). And, icing on the cake, I parked at Target and caught a ride with a friend over the weekend. My car got towed out of Target's lot. So, I suppose if you're worried the lots aren't monitored, I can confirm that they are. Who knows whether that means they're monitored for safety or just so Target can protect their parking spots. Even with the remodel, I have questions about tidiness in this store. What is the deal?!?! I have driven to Everett's store to avoid this. The parking lot here is totally out of order!!! Carts are everywhere. Everywhere except where you need them. This is not happening in Stoughton, friends, so it makes me wonder... And be sure to avoid the crosswalk ... Or die! There needs to be police officers stationed in front of this Target to handle this or the store will find itself in a big time lawsuit. Anyhow, if you want to avoid drama, go to Braintree or Stoughton. Trust me, it's worth the drive. read more

Average target here. The shelves are almost all stocked and there's a grocery section as well. There's a bunch of registers at check out and enough workers. Carts are inside which helps in the winter. The aisles are generally clean. read more

It's a good Target with plenty of parking and I've never seen it too busy inside either (compared to the Targets I've shopped at in the Seattle and San Diego areas). They have a grocery selection, but do not sell any alcohol :/ read more
