This place was on our route downtown and it was a cool little find. The workers were really cool and down to earth. This is obviously a pool hall and it has hella tables! Just buy and drink and ask for some balls. We also meet some really cool people while we were in there. The place was really busy and almost every table was take. So if you really want to play a few games you might want to get there early. Especially if it is a weekend night. I went to the bar and grabbed a jack and coke and it was only $5 which was completely surprising to me. I thought it would be like $8 bucks. This was definitely and cool spot to come across and definitely one I would come back to. read more

Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience at this establishment. The staff that I encountered at this place has a miserable and rude disposition. The liquor was watered down so make sure and stick to bottled beer. Everything in this place is sticky like a cleaning was done with a rag soaked in Coca-Cola. I ordered food... I was starved okay despite all this I ordered food it took over a half hour and it was the wrong order. Playing pool with friends was great though. I wish I could take this one back but lesson learned I'll find a different pool hall next time. read more

So, I was in here last night (Friday) around 11 after me and my friends had agreed on the idea of playing some free pool. We politely asked the bartender for pool balls after ordering a round of drinks, and she tried to charge us $3 per person playing... wtf? We told her how the sign outside the bar led us to believe that pool was free, but she said that was only before 7 PM. Ohhhh. However, this seems to contradict what other yelpers have said in past reviews. Hmm. Maybe it's just this way on the weekends, and pool is free on the weekdays? Whatever the case, we were disappointed, and certainly were not about to shell out $12 for a game of pool. read more

first Saturday in December 2017 Clearly a place for solid pool hall atmosphere, they also have arcade, shuffleboard, air hockey, and dance beats. There is a good collection of pop art and a projector that is probably used for events. The wait staff is impeccable. Bartenders on point at all time. Drinks are made speedy and with care. I was seriously impressed. Everyone behind the bar as well as the people serving tables were working efficiently the entire time I was there (3-4 hours). Incredible service. read more

Awesome location. Roomy, good music and atmosphere ! This would be a great place to stop in after any event or before dinner to shoot a few games. If the Wynkoop is crowded, this is a great alternative to get your billiards on ! read more

This a great dive bar for a few key reasons. First it's up on the second floor of a building covered with large windows providing a panoramic view of the action on the street. Next, they always offer free pool on their myriad of tables. Third the bar is spacious so there is no worry of feeling claustrophobic. Finally, the drinks are cheap with a descent selection of beer and distilled liquor. My recommendation is to take a few friends on a lazy afternoon and relax at Tarantula. read more

Although not a pool player, I had a great time here. The bartenders are super friendly, and remember your name. I think that is huge and a sign of a great bartender. Drink specials are great, funny conversations on the patio are always entertaining - from what I have heard, great remodel from the former space. read more

Nothing better than free billiards and cheap beer on most days and nights. I would suggest not eating here though. I've had nachos and a sandwich and I will never do so again. My stomach still hurts just thinking about it. Place can be kind of sketch so if you want a high end Billiard Hall this may not be the place for you. For instance if you are staying in one of the surrounding hotels! read more

My overall opinion was "Yes" and "No." We came in just after lunch and it was pretty slow. I was digging the music, the hot bartender (who was a sweetheart), the bar selection, etc. It's a nice big pool hall with LOTS of floor space and I'm pretty sure they said you get to play pool from free before 7:00 PM as long as you're drinking, so hell yes. Cool place. Unfortunately, we came back later (between GABF sessions) and it was getting busy pretty quickly. No problem there, I understand that when it's three deep all the way around the bar, you may have to wait a second. What bugged me was the Third World way of managing food, checks and bar tabs. I really wish people would just pay cash at bars; life would be SO much easier. The only thing more annoying than being a bartender who has to split a six drink order six ways and pay with six credit cards is being a thirsty patron and watching all that nonsense go down. But people are married to their plastic, so that's the way it goes. But if you have a nice big bar like this, you HAVE to join the 21st century. Simply holding the credit card to a written check that sits on the bar with thirty other open tabs and then closing them out on an old-school register is almost impossible to keep up with and sort out. I mean, you use an iPad 2 to run Pandora stations through the PA system, but have a 1991 Punch-O-Matic register handling your transactions. You realize they kept inventing stuff in that 20-year gap, right? And if you're starving and order food when it's this busy, you take your chances. Drunk people will eat anything you set in front of them, even if it's someone else's food. Like mine. So the bottom line is that I liked the place well enough and it was a nice pool hall that wasn't a total ashtray, but if it's busy you need to take cash and a Chill Pill, because it gets very hectic around the bar due to the way the money is handled. read more

Me, my fiancé and future in-laws went here last weekend and had a completely good time! Plenty of tables and drinks to choose from. I had Long Island ice teas which were the best I've had in a long time (and effective, lol). All prices were reasonable too. We ended up eating here and we're pleasantly surprised with the quality and amount of food we each received. A great overall experience which was wrapped up with air hockey games before we left. We'll definitely be back. read more

Dark seedy bar. This also describes many of the patrons. It wasn't too bad, and was open after many of the other options closed.

Subs are big enough for 2 people. Subs come with frieda and are a pretty good price. $5 domestic beers. Good music and plenty of pool tables! read more

It's a cool bar to go in to have a Tap beer, with cheap prices, local people, friendly bartender and play some pool. While visiting Denver went twice and liked it. read more

Ok. Now this place has character! My girl couldn't use the womens room because there was a couple having sex in the stall. The mens room had cocaine residue all over the place. Not just residue.....chunks. It was freakin hillarious!! Now you might say "dude, its a pool hall, it was probably the talc". WRONG! There is no talc, or even a cue rack. Not sure if this is a pool hall or some kind of brothel. Tables are nice though........... read more

The atmosphere was very nice and mellow. The staff was super friendly. They have a bunch of pool tables which is always fun. I order nachos and it took a long time but they were busy and the person who brought our food was nice and apologized for the food coming out late. Its a fun place to drink and shoot pool with friends. read more

Very cool: good music, good beers, simple and efficient. This is what we want. A genuine bar with what we like.

Tables are worn. Management needs to add at least one more bartender. The place was full when I was there, and the bartender was doing her best to serve everyone, but there were just too many people. read more

Place was awesome. Tons of full sized pool tables, all of the equipment was new and really well maintained. The bar was creatively decorated and had a great beer selection. It has a great laid back vibe. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in town. read more

For a good time with the boys head down to Tarantula's. Spirits and beer were flowing while we played a few games of pool. The bartender was a sweetie and it is a great place to wind down since it doesn't seem to get too rowdy. read more

Hey need another. Papi and I decided to go day drinking because he had a rare day off work. I'm still here now, and I have to say, of all the stops we've made today the service is amazing, everyone is the most friendly of any of the places we've been, and I am beyond impressed. This establishment is severely underrated and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. read more

I'm glad this place moved. With Tarantula moving a whopping block and into a new location, they gain a cool brick area. This, combined with the old school amps cranking good tunes, a range or beers in bottles or on tap, and at reasonable prices make this a good place to grab a drink. read more

(rolls eyes) i thought that it was kind of a dump, to be honest. however, i will give it 3 stars for not being infested with chads and whoos. there were some non-white baseball cap types there, which is not bad for denver. also, the bar downstairs...called nell's was a total crackhead hangout. but, it's closed now. i wonder where the aurora middle management crackheads go, now? read more

I've only been here once, but I definitely plan to be back. I imagine this place can get pretty busy but the night I went, it was easy to get a pool table and shoot a few rounds without being bothered by anyone. The bartender was laidback and friendly. The stairs would definitely be a hazard if you're tipsy! read more

All I can say is wow, there are a lot of pool tables, it is not the cleanest place but bearable. I think they just moved to a different location a few blocks away. Great if your looking for a dive with available pool tables and cheap drinks! read more

This place is great when you want to play a game of pool and have a beer. Yeah it's kind of a dive bar and not everything matches and they don't really do any upkeep on the place. But you know, the prices match the atmosphere and the bartenders are really good. They're quick and experienced and get everyone drinks fast. They run specials which is cool, and they definitely don't underpour. Typical college bar with amazing bartenders. read more

Cool little bar (only booze, no kitchen) with free billiards. No real frills here, just a nice kick back of a watering hole for your Monday night degenerates like myself. =) not really, these guys have a good thing going. Prices were a little steep for my taste, but a begger rarely gets to choose. Check it out! read more

Went on a weekend and got on the tables easily. Its gonna be my go to spot for pool

I love this place. For a pool hall, it's unimaginably great. I'm used to the old beat up and smokey atmosphere when it comes to pool, but this place has about a dozen very nice tables, it's spacious and it's cheap as can be. $3 per person per hour on weekends and Free on weekdays if you buy a drink. Last night there was a short wait. We were #5 in the queue and after 2 games of foosball, we had a table...maybe 15 minutes after we arrived. I had a great tasting burger and fries, good service and fun, light-hearted bartenders. I've got to say, it's always nice to see a bar staff smiling, cutting up with each other and having fun with customers even when they're working at a fast pace to try and keep customers happy. Thanks! read more

Clean dive bar. Pool, foosball, skeball. No food service. Great place to kill a few hours with friends

So, I've been here multiple times, always had kinda so so service, the establishment is clean enough to the sue at least. I went here yesterday to order some nachos play some games of pool while watching the game, I look back at my nachos at one point, only to see a COCKROACH, running away from my food............ narly.... we told the bartender of incident, we were offered free drinks instead as kind of a keep is hush hush.. so will probably never go back, which is too bad because I really did enjoy this place from time to time. ... read more

This place is great to shoot pool and we like the fact that its free on weekdays if you buy a drink. Only down side is that the cute girls that bartend are the worst bartenders that I have ever expereinced. They are slow, non responsive and sometimes are completely drunk off there a$$ by the end of the evening. If they would actually pay attention to people standing there ready to order a drink or something that would be great. Sometimes the music SUCKS loudly. Train the bartenders and get more than two bridges for the whole place and we will be happy! Redo the hellish bathrooms - my God. read more

I loved this bar. Visiting from out of town. The atmosphere is welcoming and accommodating. Wear something with sleeves, they won't allow tanks. But that's such a simple rule. The bartender Magie is the biggest treat of this place. She makes you feel individually cared for even when the bar is buzzing with people. She remembered me by name a few days after our first trip there. The music selection is always on point and the crowd is always entertaining. This was one of my favorite bar experiences ever. I will be back whenever I visit Denver. read more

great place, great staff, great food, we had burgers - terrific bun, meat, fries - and free pool! what more could you ask?!

If you want condescending service and a total lack of empathy, look no further. My wife and I attended a Holiday party (at the Corner Office) earlier in the evening, and she ended up going home sooner than expected to help the babysitter out. Since she left early, I boxed her food up from the Corner Office and went to the Tarantula with some co-workers. Tarantula wouldn't let me bring her food in, but said they would hold it up front when I left. Upon leaving, they said that some woman stole it, and initially offered nothing. I pushed, and they offered me a drink or a discount on my pool tab. Their offered discount was less than the value of the food, and they attempted to belittle me and coerce me into a poor approximation of the value of the item that they lost. Pro tip - if you lose something from a costumer, after you required the customer to leave the item with you, don't tell the customer that they're being "irrational" when they ask for the value of the item back. read more

A pool hall that doesn't have racks of cues seems odd, but Tarantula doesn't offer you a selection of them to choose from when playing pool. You get what you get, which is two cues laid out on the table. And I only saw one bridge, among about a dozen tables. Hmmm. I went there for the first time recently with a meetup group, and thought it was a pretty cool place at first. Kinda sparse on tables in the large bar area, but I suppose that makes for good mingling. Also kinda sparse on service, but the three female bartenders at the bar were pretty quick and very friendly, considering they seemed to be the only ones serving both food and drinks. Oh, and they have a sidewalk seating area where the smokers go. Unfortunately, they also have the ability to open the large sliding door between the bar and the sidewalk, which they did, and all that cigarette smoke gets sucked back into the bar. Ick. Plan on bellying up to that smokey bar to get your drinks, rather than waiting for a waitron at the table. They offer a limited menu of typical bar food and some burgers and sandwiches. I had the nachos - I advise avoiding them. The cheese was cold and congealed by the time they were delivered, but of course I ate them anyway, not wanting to drink on an empty stomach. Bad decision - they came back to haunt me later that night, around 2:30 in the morning. The pool playing was fun, with my group. Loud music, good selection for a pool hall. The bartender did come around a few minutes before the expiration of free ball use time (6:00, apparently) to announce that if we still wanted to use the balls we'd have to pay $12/hour for them. That seems high, but I guess Tarantula is capitalizing on their LoDo location to justify the rate. I'm a terrible pool player but I do enjoy dinking around at the game and am interested in finding a cool, comfy, low-key neighborhood pool hall to occupy me over the winter. Tarantula, unfortunately, isn't it. read more

I've been here a couple of times now since they moved to their new location on the northeast corner of 15th and Stout. I'm so glad they made such good use of this space, which is large, clean, open, airy and so far not ever too crowded for happy hour. With great specials, a small but not packed patio, and a large bar that catches the breeze when the garage doors are open, it's definitely now a go-to for post-work wind-down. read more
