I have a weakness for a great whiskey bar. My wallet knows it. My liver knows it. My wife definitely knows it. Sometimes I show up hunting for rare pours. Other times I'm just in the mood for a cocktail that reminds me why I don't waste my time at places that think whiskey and cola is "craft." This visit was all about the cocktails, and Seven Grand absolutely delivered. Josh, our bartender, was running the room like a conductor leading an orchestra of happy whiskey drinkers. He asked what we liked, made a couple of recommendations for Old Fashioneds based on our preferences, and absolutely nailed it. Every drink was balanced, flavorful, and dangerously easy to sip. The guy knows his whiskey, knows his cocktails, and somehow still manages to make everyone at the bar feel like they're his only customer. The whiskey selection is enough to make a bourbon nerd lose all sense of financial responsibility, but surprisingly, we escaped without needing to refinance the house. If Josh doesn't own Seven Grand, someone should probably look into fixing that. Until then, I'll keep showing up to "try just one drink"... knowing full well that's a lie I tell myself every single time. Highly recommend. 7 years since I've last been here and its still the same. Yes a couple of the stuffed animals have been moved around. But the service and the drinks are still top notch. They've gotten do much busier though. There must've been over 30 people at the bar getting drinks. But the 4 bartenders at the bar were slinging them out quickly. Even though they were fast the drinks were extremely well made and the customer service wad amazing. The ambiance was great!! Everyone was here to have a good time. But no one was overly rowdy or raucous. People were friendly and conversational but stayed in their lanes also. Even though all these years have passed. And the pandemic has ravaged many businesses. Seven Grand is one of my favorite cocktail bars in Denver, hands down. The location alone is hard to beat - close to Union Station, Coors Field, and McGregor Square - and despite being right in the middle of everything, parking is surprisingly manageable with plenty of street spots and nearby garages. Their cocktails are consistently excellent, but the standout for me is the Gentleman's Buck. It's perfectly balanced, refreshing, and endlessly drinkable. I still wish they'd bring it back onto the happy hour menu! The staff makes the experience even better. Sam and Joshua are fantastic bartenders - friendly, welcoming, and genuinely great at what they do. My husband has wanted to try Seven Grand FOREVER, so when we found one in Denver, it became a must-stop on our list. Didn't have time for more than a drink, so we made it count. I like my whiskeys, specifically my scotches, real smokey and peaty, so I'm excited whenever I see Ardbeg on the menu. Our final night in Denver, after dinner, saw us walk over to Seven Grand in the downtown area's Dairy Block. The bar is known for its amazing selection of whiskeys--at least 700+ different types, ranging from scotch and bourbon to Irish single pot and ryes to Japanese and American malts and more. In addition to their vast collection of various whiskeys, the bartenders serve some superb cocktails, which I enjoyed. Although the bar started by serving cocktail standards such as the Old Fashioned, Sazerac, and Whiskey Sour, I had the bar make me a Brown Derby that was delicious and well-balanced. But I loved their selection of whiskeys, enjoying a multitude of pours from several producers ranging from Cascade Hallow, Heaven Hill, Wyoming Whiskey, and more. Specifically, I sipped on some rarer pours, such as the George Dickel 17 year, which was an exciting experience with some golden nougat notes on top of its typical minerality. The Heaven Hill 18-year release was solid as I spent time nosing and experiencing. The Wyoming Whiskey, single barrel pick, was my favorite, as that distillery has produced some wickedly tantalizing juice. The experience was enjoyable. I chatted away with the bartenders, who had extensive knowledge and were responsible for managing Seven Grand's whiskey program. I was impressed with their expertise as I talked shop with them and enjoyed the pours. I would make multiple stops at Seven Grand if I lived in Denver. I was in Colorado on a business trip for two months. I tried several distilleries from as far south as Colorado Springs all the way up to Fort Collins. Out of all of them the Seven Grand is definitely one of the top two. The ambiance when you walk in, the friendliness of the bartender, best part is for being in downtown the prices are not over inflated. The pours are generous. I will definitely be coming back when I'm in Colorado again. If you're looking for a good whiskey bar definitely try this place out. Also if you're in Estes Park hit up the whiskey bar at the Stanley Hotel, it's another great whiskey bar with a really large selection of whiskies and you'll be surprised at the cost. Hilarious that I lived in San Diego for 5 years and never went to Seven Grand like I wanted to. Over 5 years after that (of living in San Francisco) here I am in Denver, frequenting Seven Grand several times a month. Superb whiskey collection, but you come here for the experience. We had the absolute treat of having Coop, one of their top whiskey experts, as our whiskey guide. We were primarily interested in Scotches and dabbled a little in bourbons. You can order by the half-oz, oz, or 2-oz. You can also order flights of 3 or 4. We started out with a flight of four, half-oz pours. My friend and I were already familiar with scotches, so we started out with the good and interesting stuff. Before selecting our liquids for the flight, we first had a conversation with Coop to get a good idea of what he would recommend for us. He was able to describe for us what to expect, the process, history, market, etc. of each scotch we inquired about. It was truly fascinating because Seven Grand has special bottles that are limited edition releases that need further explanation. At the bar, when your flight is brought out, and if it's possible to do, they will bring out the bottle and place it behind the glass of scotch you're drinking. Our flight was also presented from the least peated to the most peated, which is how I would expect a scotch flight to be arranged. I loved how Coop introduced the customized flight with, "it's not everyday that I introduce a flight starting with a 21-year scotch!" Thanks to Coop, our flights were customized precisely for us. After the flight of scotches, the conversation continued and we got a couple more scotches and some bourbons. Coop's knowledge of bourbons was as impressive to me as his knowledge of scotches. I won't bother describing everything we got because you should really have your own experience at seven grand. They had a pool table, lounge seating, and the interior is dimly lit with a very elegant feel. There is also outdoor seating. Don't forget to check out the bathrooms. Men can get a healthy dose of Bill Murray, while the ladies will be graced by Jeff Goldblum. Seven Grand also has a whiskey club. If it weren't for my family responsibilities, I would be all over it. The whiskey club sounds special, so I would highly recommend checking it out. And if you are able to participate, then know that there is a very jealous person out there (me!). read more

This is one of my favorite bars in Denver! Since coming in here again in 2021 post-Covid, they didn't have all the pool table set up anymore. They do have a happy hour! The "bar manager" red hair female tried to pour us Evan Williams instead of Teeling which was on the menu for a pickle back shot and then proceeded to tell us she didn't have enough pickle juice to make the shots. Be aware, I'm a bit tipsy writing this review, of course form spending my evening here. I don't know why I procrastinated this long to wrote about this establishment. If you are a whiskey, scotch or bourbon lover, this place is for you, hands down! It's almost a guarantee that they have your favorite spirit in those three categories. I came here several times, always impressed with the service and atmosphere. It's an all type of folk establishment, for simply neat tasting of spirits or for superb cocktails.
