I'm a Bar Rescue fan which is why I wanted to stop by. We stopped by on a Wednesday night around 8:00. Zanzibar is quite large and there were not many people there. As others have said beer is fairly cheap. There couldn't have been 25 people in the place which is mainly a pool hall with other games. The bartender was friendly enough. We had a couple pints which were $5.00 a piece. Zanzibar could definitely use a Jon Taffer visit again. It needs some TLC, but for those looking for pool or a cheap beverage option this could be the bar for you. One visit was enough for me. read more

Zanzibar. Just the name itself should speak for itself. If you know you know! Cheap and strong drinks. Rowdy crowd. Lots of pool tables. What more could you ask for? Oh, I know, free pool! There are so many places with $1/play tables which isn't bad but there are also that try to charge $30/hour+. Honestly, that's what keeps me coming back. Stop by, let loose, and play some pool! Say hi if you see me there! read more

A chill, fun environment. Would recommend if you're in the area and looking for a place for a quick drink!

Do not give this place your business. Went out with my friends and the bar back/ food runner was horrible to us. He started screaming at my friend after she politely asked him not to take her full basket of fries that she was actively eating. He was yelling at other customers too. He also took all of our unfinished drinks without asking in a huff. When my friend went to go try and find a manager to talk to about his behavior we were told "this is just how he is sometimes" and that there wasn't a manager or supervisor on duty. He got into a fight with a customer and the customer was kicked out but he was still allowed to stay on the clock. I was genuinely scared to be there so we left because he was walking around angrily and starting arguments with pretty much everyone there. We are all service workers and have never witnessed something like this before. read more

Free pool amongst other games and cheap drinks. What's not to love? Just watch out from drinking too many long island iced teas. The atmosphere almost feels like a dive bar but with added pool tables. It becomes very busy later in the day so don't think you'll always be able to grab a table. We also played some shuffle board which they also have although I'm not sure if the sand was brushed over in a while. I'm happy to come back again when I'm in the area as I'm always down for a game of pool with drinks. read more

Billiards pool bar. Pretty cool except no one complies to mask rule. I don't know if thats a thing in Denver. Ladies room had no soap and when I told her she couldn't have cared less. Horrible drink making as well! Bad bartenders. read more

I'd return to play pool here, but first I'd eat at the Biker Hot-Dog joint a block away where food and drinks are more reasonably priced. Boiler Makers were good with JD as well whisky and PBR as chaser. Onion Rings were better than expected, but nothing spectacular. Service and day patrons were friendly read more

Came here on a Friday night. My friend and I were meeting up with a couple of friends so we could all play pool. We didn't wait long to get a table. It's a chill venue located in Larimer St. They offer a variety of games such as pool, pinball, foosball, table hockey, etc. The bartender was super nice and friendly. I ordered an old fashioned drink but they didn't have all the ingredients to make it so I settled for a simple margarita. It was trash, just trash. Mid way through playing a pool game, I was feeling for another drink. I settle for a simple coke and rum. It was decent. Pool tables are FREE so that's a plus. Music was great. Overall great spot to hangout. read more

Great place, but the security guard was a huge prick. Started kicking people out 20 minutes before they close and wouldn't let us finish our game. Dude was on a power trip. Would be 5 stars if the security guard wasn't the worst person I've met ever. Tarantulas security is way better. Those guys are cool. read more

Worst service ever by Kate. She was slow and she didn't even know the most basic drinks. If that wasn't bad enough this weekend our table had to watch her completely ignore us for her friends and make out with her boyfriend who was sitting outside every ten minutes while we were waiting to be served for over 45 minutes. *edit* Again. She has to be the shittiest bartender I've ever had. I tried getting a few drinks on my way home from work at 8:30 and I only managed to get served twice before last call because she was too busy talking to a coke dealer. How is that even possible with only 20 or so people in the bar and 2 bartenders? If I didn't live next door basically I wouldn't even bother. read more

I went to this place a month ago because on the website it states in multiple places there is free pool everyday. When we got there the bartender said it's $10 an hour on the weekends. We'd already paid for parking so we decided to stay. Service was abysmal. There seemed to only be two people on shift for a Saturday; a bartender and a bar back/food runner? When we brought up the website saying free pool, the bartender said "management just hasn't updated the website yet", yet there was no manager in sight or mention of getting them involved. We weren't going to make a scene on a busy weekend night so we played our games, paid out, and left. Not having free pool on the weekends was never the issue. The apathy and unhelpfulness of staff just makes this a bar I won't ever go back to. We can find other, better pool houses that actually care about the people coming in. read more

Visiting from Iowa and I'll say this: great music, great deals (free pool with purchase most days of the week), and super friendly people (bartenders and guests). They only have 8 foot tables, but I would definitely recommend this establishment for its early 2010's vibes and great billiards. read more

I knew nothing about this bar when I came here. I had mentioned playing pool and a friend from Denver suggested this bar. We waited a few minutes at the bar for the bartender to acknowledge us. When she finally did and my friend said we wanted to play pool she said ok and turned around, meanwhile two women that had just walked up were given the last set of pool balls next to us. I thought my friend's head was going to explode when the bar tender said oh they just took the last set of pool balls. He found it incredibly rude that the other bartender heard us say we want to play pool and then took the last set of pool balls and gave them to customers that had just walked up (I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and maybe she didn't hear us). He mentioned to the bartender this was kinda rude and she just shrugged her shoulders and said sorry. We didn't order any drinks. We waited about 15 minutes on a Friday night for a pool table to open. The only people in the bar were the ones playing pool. Overall, it was enjoyable enough if you are looking for a place to hang out with friends over a game or two of pool. From reading the yelp reviews it appears the pool is free. So I'm giving them five stars just for that, since you can potentially go there like we did and not drink and play pool. I'm sure that isn't the intent of the bar...but we aren't big drinkers ‍ read more

Zanzibar Billiards , great environment, vibrant music, and nice staff that keep up with the ambiance.

I wish I could leave NO STARS. this place is disgusting. I went there this weekend because I was across the street at Gin Mill with my friends for Halloween - gin mill closed early due to inclement weather so we head across the street.... BIG MISTAKE. The security told us there would be a wait - that's fine. We waited for a bit and finally this security in the photos saw my gay friends costume and said "wtf is that I'm not letting you in" and told us to leave. When we started asking why (since others were being let in) security started MACING US in the face. The word "F@gg0t" was being said not only be security but by a bar goer as we were getting maced. They did nothing and let him stay inside. Not only that but they also reported all the one star reviews on Google and had those all removed and had A TON of ppl to post 5 star reviews. This is disgusting. DO NOT spend your money at this a place. They need to be back on bar rescue and teach their employees (outside contracted or not) how to treat people KINDLY. STAY AWAY from this place at all costs. read more

WTF is wrong with the large red head behind the bar? She needs an attitude adjustment and alcoholics anonymous... Best of luck trying to build a clientele if she is there often. I usually love stopping in to play a few games, cheap drinks and usual fast friendly service; when my date and I stopped in she was drunk out of her mind and rude beyond belief.. took an unusual amount of time to get one drink.. never returning if I see her behind the bar. read more

Oh where to begin. What should I even call you? Zanzibar? Solids and Stripes? Either way there's definitely an identity crisis going on here. My BF and I got invited out to play some pool this past Sunday with some friends and we ended up at Zanzibar. Here's the highlight reel: ++ Tons of pool tables and pool is free with purchase. Awesome! ++ Long Happy Hour (11 am to 7 pm) with some decent specials including $6 long islands and 1/2 price apps. -- Bartender forgot my BF's drink for easily 10 minutes. She remembered it once she came back to see if we needed anything. -- I'm not a fan of the water coolers at either end of the bar. Kinda tacky. -- The women's bathroom was a disaster. I won't go into detail. -- Shuffleboard table looks like it needs some maintenance. -- A lot of the pool cues were missing the tip or bowed pretty bad. Meh. All in all not a horrible experience; I've definitely had worse. I'd come back to play some pool on a random day during happy hour, but I won't be racing back anytime soon. read more

Great pool hall with chill ambiance and great service. The pool is free if you buy drinks or food.

I'm a native. Always knew about Zanzibar. Started binge watching Bar Rescue and had no idea this bar was on the show! Came in tonight totally curious of what they've kept up from the change just to be completely disappointed. Stinks like piss first of all. No special cocktails? How do you think you're gonna survive? Service was very nice and welcoming but disappointed in the opportunity the SAME OWNER completely disrespected and took for granted. Finishing my beer and walking to ViewHouse for a VIEWHOUSE LEMONADE. NOT COMING BACK. read more

This place is pretty cool. If I remember correctly there's 8 pool tables and a mish mash of other games. Drinks are good, I recommend the Long Island. It's a perfect mix. I recommend coming here earlier in the night as you will be waiting forever for a table. Haven't had the food from here, but that's because I'd rather walk down to The Marquis and grab a slice of pizza. read more

A busy friday night. There was only one bartender taking drink and food orders for the entire place. There were long lines at the bar. She was overwhelmed by drink orders already and refused to take a food order at first but reluctantly did in the end. When the food came to our pool table, they were sort of disgusting. It's guilty pleasure bar food so I didn't expect gourmet food but they were way below average bar food quality. I would never order food there again. If you go there for a pool game and cheap drinks, that might be ok. read more

Great bar. Friendly atmosphere and good, affordable drinks. Pool tables make it a fun place to stay. Highly recommend 10/10.

Service was okay. But bartender was not washing mixer cups properly. I watched him do it twice. One my shot then another after me. And was clearly busy with some girl at the bar so I was not his problem. I have been in food service and been bartending for ten years.and not to mention that someone who was not working took the speakerphone and was behind the bar yell stuff. Very unprofessional. The man with the black curls does not know how to bartend. When you have customers in line the 1st person needs the attention not his girlfriend. No boyfriend or girlfriend showed be at the place you working at distraction's. He needs to be fired.... read more

I was super pumped as I watch the Bar Rescue show so this was cool to visit. We came in on a Friday afternoon so it was not too packed as people were working. It's located in a hip area and we were looking to play some pool. The bartender was extremely welcoming and we were delighted to find that the pool was free so we played several games. They also have a 4 person air hockey table that we took advantage of for a bit. We noticed that it had several televisions as we walked in to find a majority of the patrons sitting at the bar watching sports. We had a couple of beers, which were averagely priced and we went on with our day. read more

This place sucks, straight up. Slow service, under-staffed (who are also rude), the pool tables (the reason you come here) are either tilted or the sticks are broken. Bathroom is disgusting. The speakers that play music are broken. Tables/play area is disgusting. I don't know how they're still in business. The only decent thing here was the wings I ordered, so shout out to the kitchen. read more

A cool spot to hang with friends whether you like to play pool or not. My pals and I came here on a Saturday night and the place was busy till 2am. There are plenty of pool tables. You have to go up to the bar to get change to claim a table - easy enough process. The night we came in the music was great and I found myself dancing and singing along to all the tunes. They also have a full bar. I found that the drinks here were cheaper than some other places on Larimer. The staff were pretty rude when we were getting coins for the table and when we were ordering drinks. We were there till closing and they were very rude with telling us to leave as well. I get that it was late and that they probably were there all night, but we weren't doing anything wrong and they were just flat out rude. PSA: if you visit on a weekday and check in on Yelp you can get a free game. read more

Great bartenders. Heavy drinks. Speaker sounds like they're under water, terrible quality.

Cool place to come to but the service is absolutely terrible! The bartenders don't even care if they are making money they ignored every person. At the bar on 4/18. This establishment has been a crowd favorite until tonight when the bartender stood at the computer with her co worker talking instead of tending the bar. I hate to be that person but I work in the industry and with covid happening it hurt everyone you would think she would have cared a little more about making money and at-least acknowledging the clientele. I really want to like Zanzibar! THE PLUSES: +A pinball machine. Yes, keep it old school. +Lots of well maintained pool tables. +The kitchen - good food- slow but delicious and fresh +A nice environment, good aesthetics including the pretty bartenders. + A hot tub, yes really, bring your bikini and briefs. THE MINUSES: -They don't watch the door sand sketchy street people wander in. I had two skeezers try to sell me drugs and were slightly intimidating. The young naive bartender saw these guys come in and should have been more alert. -I am new to town and looking to be someones regular patron. But they aren't friendly here. I heard the owner or manager giving directions to the bartenders, but he never said hello to the patrons. The bartenders are quick with a plastic smile, but won't talk or chat at all. (Just the opposite happens at their competition, Herb's, across the street) Zanzibar gets a lot of things right, but if you don't feel welcome, its all moot. read more

If you would like someone to pay attention to you or bring what you've already paid for in a timely fashion, go elsewhere. I got back to work late on my lunch break because they took twenty minutes - I looked at the time - to get me my order on a Sunday at 2:30 in the afternoon. My order? A side of fries. They clearly just didn't bother to make it until I finally got the bartender (who managed to ignore me when I was sitting right in front of her) to to notice. And then they did nothing to make any of it right, just shamefaced mumbled "sorries" as they ran away. Not cool. read more

So I went to Zanzibar with a couple of co-workers for our Snow Day Happy Hour. They had $2.50 domestics and half-price FRIED appetizers. They also had specials on well drinks, I think $5 for a double. Also, free pool if you were drinking, which we were. The bartender Sarah was the star of the show that day. Not only was she really, really attractive (the guys were so happy) but she was really nice. My co-worker took my purse into the bathroom (so as not to leave it at an empty table) and unbeknownst to either of us, dropped my wallet in there. 15 minutes later we see the bartender walking up to us with my wallet in her hands, she handed it back to me and said she found it and recognized me from the picture. All the cash and everything was still in there. I was so happy and surprised and lucky. I will be returning. Thank you, Sarah. read more

Ohhhh Zanzibar. Pool tables + random bar eats + loud music + decent drink specials + fun staff & awesome owner + a million holiday themed parties hosted here each year which feature an actual bubbling hot tub in the middle of the bar area + my drunk ass getting talked into "drinking for free" if I got into the hot tub wearing only my bra and panties = HOLY....FUN, CRAZY, WILD. **I have not returned since this random occasion on St Patty's day 4 years ago. awkward.** read more
