Quesadilla de pollo
Deepika N.

I visited Taqueria La Poblana for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. I had a chicken taco, chicken tamale ranchero, and a chicken quesadilla. The chicken taco was one of the best I've ever had. It was my first time having a tamale ranchero and it didn't disappoint. The chicken quesadilla was MASSIVE and delicious. I was quite impressed with the prices. My total for everything, including a Mexican Coke, was under $20. For SoCal, that's amazing, but honestly I would have paid so much more because the food was that good. I highly recommend Taqueria La Poblana. It's tucked away in a strip mall, but definitely worth going out of your way for.

This spot could have better customer service. The guy who appears to be the owner is so rude. Doesn't greet you and when you say hi he just says "what do you want" instead of being happy that he has customers buying his food. Doesn't greet you with respect or even welcomes you. The cooking is sloppy. I ordered the torta. Looks like it was made with anger and it's a slob of everything mixed up. Meat is poor quality. I can prep a better torta than this at home. Worst $10 spent. Took 2 bites and got grossed out.

The Pozole didn't have chicken or pork but rather delicious seafood (clams, shrimp, white fish) in a delightful green soup! My wife commented that all of the flavors in her dish were very authentic and delicious. Our server was the picture of professionalism and courtesy. The atmosphere and music were relaxing and energizing at the same time (yes, it IS possible)!! WE'LL BE BACK!!!

I personally have never been told that before by a hostess anywhere let alone Gabbi's. But we wanted to be accommodating so we did find a 5th person to join last minute. Then we get there at our reservation time and were told we had to wait 10-15 minutes because they ended up reserving a 4 top for us (which would have been fine but we figured we'd be okay to invite a 5th person since we were going to sit at a 5 top). We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table. They were apologetic and told us they had told the party that were sitting in where we were going to sit that we were here and waiting. Not sure if she actually told them that but I found that a bit odd. So we get seated and were given complimentary chips and salsa for the wait. We were also told the manager was going to come by to speak to us regarding how long we waited and how we were told to find another person for our party. He never once went up to us or even acknowledged us until we said "bye" leaving the restaurant. The meal was great like always. We felt like the servers forgot to check on us and we had to flag down our server to get us water and more chips and even to take our order. The servers went to the host podium a lot to chat as well while we had no water. That is not the usual service we get dining here but it will be considered the next time we choose a place to eat.

First off, parking is tight and limited, with overflow spilling onto street parking. Once you get past the parking situation, though, the service is wonderful. As for the food, everything was good and authentic. However, I couldn't get over the fact that the guacamole appetizer costs $14. It was good, but honestly, not that good for the price. The plate is generous and we ordered our usual of burritos, quesadillas, tacos and huevos. My favorite is the Avila's chicken noodle soup!

Our water glasses were always full, and they kept the table clean as soon as we finished a plate. The food was good, but not the best I've tried. I had the Grande Taco Salad, and I really enjoyed it. We also ordered the seafood tacos, but unfortunately, the shrimp had a little bit of a soapy taste. We let our server know, and they were very nice about it and offered to get her something else. A note for anyone who doesn't eat pork: ask for the beans prepared "a la olla" instead of the refried beans. I asked our server if the refried beans were made with manteca (pork lard), and he confirmed that they were, so just something to be aware of when ordering. The restaurant itself has a lot of character. It used to be a church, so it has beautiful colorful windows with designs, lots of wood inside, and some huge, beautiful lamps in the middle. They also have outdoor seating, but it was way too hot to sit outside when we went. Overall, it was a nice first visit, especially because of the friendly service and atmosphere. I'm giving it 4 stars because of the soapy taste in the shrimp and because, while the food was good, I've had better Mexican food at other places.

You name it, I'm there. Whenever we have people in town this is where we take them. Why? Let's start with the food. You really can't go wrong with anything you choose. The food is fresh, made to order, and made with love. So if you're one of those fast food type of chaps who wants to pay for a microwave dinner at a restaurant, you gotta get over that. Apps? Get the guac, ceviche, empanadas & yucca. If they have the blue fin tuna available, get that too. Entrees? Some of my favorites are the octopus, whole branzino, oxtail. But that ribeye w/ the bone marrow sweet potato?? Give me 12 of them immediately. (It's actually a lot of food, so if you order it, keep that in mind). Drinks? Dang they will have you craving a cocktail or mocktail like nobody's business. Flavors are understood!!! My favorites are the la Diabla (shout out to my mezcal crew) and La Picchu. Staff? The BEST! It is such a familial spot. They will go out of their way to make sure both you and your belly enjoy the experience. If you're still reading, you should already be on your way or seated by now. You won't regret it!

The service was friendly and very helpful with suggestions that were spot on! Then there's the drinks and food... WOW!! I had a light Piña colada drink that was really delicious, the server suggested adding rum instead of gin and that was a great choice. We shared the Blue Fin Sashimi, yes we had Japanese food at a Latin fusion restaurant but it was better than most sushi places. It's an entree plate but we had it as an app. We also shared the surf and turf tacos, ribeye and shrimp, who would have thought to put those together. The tortillas were handmade and thick. The sauce was picantè, and a perfect combo. These ingredients blend well together they don't fight each other and that's really makes for a satisfying by each time. I highly recommend this place, it's kind of a local hangout. Can be casual or a little dressy. By the time we left 2 1/2 hours later, it was hopping. The bar looked really fun to hang out at. Outstanding place. Sorry, no pictures. The food was too good!

A group of us came in and spent around $500. We ordered several appetizers and shared different plates because everything looked so good. I personally ordered the tacos gobernador. That night and the next day was awful. I started vomiting, had severe diarrhea, missed work, and my child also got sick after eating. Because of what happened, I called the restaurant to let them know and make them aware. I wasn't expecting an argument--I just wanted them to take the situation seriously. But I was being confused for someone that had already called earlier that day with the same problem. I felt completely brushed off. The response I received was basically, "Thanks for your comment." When I spoke with a supervisor he came across as aggressive and made me feel like I wasn't even allowed to express my concerns about what happened. As a regular paying customer, that was incredibly frustrating. I'm not saying restaurants don't have challenges or that mistakes can't happen. But when customers spend hundreds of dollars, we deserve quality food, proper food safety practices, and to be treated with respect when we report a serious issue. Whether this was a food handling problem or cross-contamination, my experience should have been taken seriously instead of dismissed.
