The only real saving grace of the meal was the cheese dip, salsa, and chips. Those were solid and probably the best part of the visit. Everything else went downhill from there. The service was lackluster and not attentive, which should've been our first red flag. Another warning sign was how fast the food came out -- about six minutes after we ordered, which made it pretty clear things were just being reheated. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas, but they were basically plain cheese enchiladas with a few tiny shrimp thrown in. Very underwhelming and lacking flavor. The margarita I ordered was also disappointing -- it tasted like artificial sweetener with no natural flavor, so I ended up sending it back and just getting a beer instead. My wife ordered the Poncho's nachos, which came out cold with a neon orange cheese that looked and tasted pretty processed. Definitely not appetizing. Overall, we left pretty disappointed. There are much better Tex-Mex spots in the BCS area. I hate to say it because I've always heard great things about this place, but it feels like it may have lost its prime. All the food is freshly prepared, home-cooking style, including, YES the tortillas! I get breakfast and lunch in one spot. My photos do not do it justice. The service is very good. The people are very nice. Everyone smiles at you. My husband and I ordered tacos and the packed separately, so we know which are mine and his. Thats a nice touch. Fortunately I was greeted with an energetic HOLA! at the other end and upon recognizing my broken spanish, they immediately pivoted to english to take my order. I went with a fish taco, a carne asada gordita, and a pair of deshebrada tacos and a pair of pastor tacos. Upon arriving, they had my food ready quickly after I paid. Got back to my hotel and chowed down. The fish taco is absolutely awesome; really packed with intense flavors from the slaw, sauce, and the juiciness of the fish. The fish is pretty thick and worth the price. The gordita is delicious as well and still piping hot when I got back. As for the tacos, those are tasty as well although smaller than I imagined for the price being paid. I plan to hit up this truck again next time I'm in the College Station/Bryan area. I understand why this is a favorite amongst the locals here and for good reason.
