Honestly, they should allow a 4.5 rating because this place only lacks ambiance. Other than that, the food is excellent. I'm a burrito guy. I've had both their carnitas and carne asada burritos, with everything. The only thing I don't, or wouldn't like when eating either is taking a bite and chewing on gristle or fat! I'm happy to report that that hasn't happened, allowing for a good eating experience. Both burritos were delicious and I was plenty full afterwards. Nice staff. So, my mom calls me one Sunday morning to tell me that my father wants a chorizo and egg burrito for breakfast but she doesn't know where to go to get one. Normally, my go to is La Especial, but they haven't been open since the long-long ago, in the before times. So I told my mom to go to the place right across the street, Taqueria Caporales. She says, no, my father probably wouldn't like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So at this point, I'm starting to crave a chorizo and egg burrito. I'm going. The wife didn't want anything so I head out to get one to go. I had been there before, years earlier, thought it was ok. It looked the same, except all the tables roped of and the social distancing stuff cuz of the 'rona. I ordered a chorizo-egg-beans-cheese-hot sauce burrito. I got it home and took my first bite. Holy crap, this is the best GD chorizo burrito I've ever had in my life. On a side note, I live in Hueneme, been in the area for 30 years, I've been to every Mexican place in Hueneme/Oxnard, including all 13 of the Tacos de Mexicos. Plus, I'm a fat kid, I like to eat. But for realsies, this is the best GD chorizo burrito I've ever had. Two bites in my wife looks at me and says "you're going to crap your brains out". I wish I could tell you she was wrong my friends, but you and I have been through too much together for me to lie to you. I crapped my brains out for three days. But here's the thing, knowing what I know now, 10/10 I would go back in time and eat that burrito again. In fact I'm going to go there this Sunday. Five stars, highly recommend. read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years and this is my favorite burrito shop of all time. I usually get the Carne Asada burrito, with little beans and little rice-- just because I want to indulge in the salty taste of the steak. The burrito is not-at-all fat in diameter like a muscle builder's biceps, but instead long and fairly skinny that's packed with a spiked flavor. The party inside the burrito contains: soft (yet firm) refried beans, fluff of bright orange spanish rice, freckeled with cilantro and onions, and chopped beef swimming in a salty house sauce that I still -till this day- do not know the true secrets of. The tortilla seems like it's house made that's fluffy and soft like a 4-ply tissue paper, and has been sitting idly and warming up for the day to be eaten. I've had my fareshare of burritos across the west coast, ranging from Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, Venice, East LA, Long Beach, and San Diego. I dream about this place and nothing compares to its phenomenal taste, soft texture, salty punch, and it's simple package. It's not to be compared with Chiptole, Freebirds!, or custom burritos from Wholefoods as size is not this restaurants priority, but instead, they honor the taste of pure authentic Mexican cuisine stapled with pride and no-bullshit attitude. These guys are the real MVP, and I highly recommend them. They get 5 stars for quality, price, and consistent anthenticity for as long as I can remember. read more

I am very glad I stopped by this little "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant. First time & I was immediately impressed with the friendly greeting I received from Maria. Customer service is what I am the most critical about & they definitely earn a 5 star rating for this! Food is delicious! I ordered a quesadilla & couldn't decide between asada or pollo so they made it half and half :-) which was cool because both are great! We were looking for fish tacos to eat while parked near beach at point mugu and found this place on Yelp. Love you, Yelp. Even during a pandemic, this place was doing brisk business (and practicing appropriate social distancing and hygiene!) we ordered the fish tacos and shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos were bright and fresh and lightly spicy, and probably similar to how their coctel or ceviche is prepared. The fish tacos were incredible. A nice thick cut of tender white fish, buttery smooth and rich with a zing of spice for balance. I'm not sure if I've ever had fish tscos that good before. Don't skip this place - it may not look like much but the foods amazing. Also we got six tacos and two drinks for $20, can't beat that. read more

Burrito is not huge and not small, just perfect and very tasty. Heard they been in business for over 18 years so they definitely know what they are doing. I tried it since the reviews were favorable about this place. Sadly things weren't as good or cheap as I'd thought. There is no menu, only pictures on the wall of food to choose from with no prices. I saw a review in here about $3 burritos and was excited to find a cheap and good spot. I ordered a carne asada burrito only and it ended up costing $5.50. That's almost the same price as fancier local mexican restaurant take out. The burrito was decent and chips were free, but also left out in the open without a sneeze guard or anything. I was looking forward to the real cheese a reviewer on here had mentioned before, but it apparently does not come standard on the $5.50 burrito and there is no way to tell from the picture on the wall. The establishment is also kind of dirty in certain ways.. For example, the tongs for the uncovered chips hangs on the heating lamp above them, which is grimy and dusty. This place isn't terrible, but the review on here about $3 burritos is not right. They are $5.50 now (2013), and for the quality are not very competitive in the burrito game in Hueneme/Oxnard. read more

Went here today for a quick lunch and boy was it quick... the restaurant it self needs a little updating its old looking a lot of junk everywhere.The service was average nothing bad nor nothing good, this is my second time here and both times have been good. There salsa variety is small but they all taste good. I do have to agree with a couple reviews below I hate how they have outdated pictures of the food menu. A nice big menu would be very helpful and also knowing what your going to pay for will help out, I hate having to ask how much is something looking like I'm broke or something..lol. But anyways back to the food, first time I went I got the California Burrito it was pleasant nothing where I was super happy but it was still good enough to eat. I love there papas in Vinagre with jalapenos and carrots there pretty yummy, today I purchased 2 tacos de carne asada for 2.69 the tortilla was a lil soggy they had a good amount of meat, the meat did have a lot of grease but they were still edible. I don't think you will go wrong here but I also don't think you will become a great fan. I will eventually return since it is just down the street from my job. read more

The food here is pretty authentic. Although some others would prefer the overpriced, over-hyped El Chilitos, they haven't enjoyed real Mexican food, yet. The pescaos y mariscos reminds me of fare that you would find in Puerto Nuevo, or Ensenada, and some dishes like the grilled flattened pork steak resemble a Mayan inspired "poc chuc" and "cochinil pibig" like we enjoyed at Ek Balam during our visit to Chichen Itza and Ik Kil in the Yucatan peninsula. The food is relatively inexpensive here. A large burrito will cost you about $3 here when compared to El Chilito's $7-8 burrito. Caporales uses real grated cheese, when compared to El Chilito's "cheese flavored" canned liquid cheese. Now is real cheese too much to ask for these days? "Note cheese flavored" Although places like this use manteca in their beans, too much can lead to heartburn and a bile induced coma. Opt for the seafood dishes like fresh fish or the oysters and the fresh roasted pork carnitas. The jukebox can be frightening as it plays random "Banda Machos" hits at full volume. yaiii....yaiii...yaiii.....hheeee....ollleee... Cool place, good food, low prices, can't go wrong. read more

I have had fish tacos all over Southern California, Hawaii & Mexico and I not found any that can compare to these. Not much on ambience, but well worth it!! I love this place!!! They have the best seafood and mexican food!! I have to say their burritos are about $5.50 but they do have a $3 that comes with rice,beans and CHEESE. Which is what i usually get be ause i cant finish the other burrito anyways. Also you end up paying for what you get.. If you want cheap "mexican" food then you are going to end up getting something along the lines of TAcO Bell! The people are super nice and if you ask for a menu they will provide it for you. Also if you think about it when i go to chipotle i end up paying about $12-13 for burrito, chips ,and drink here i pay( when i get a meat buurito for my hubbie) about 7-8 for burrito, chips and drink.. The chips are free but it also cost them to make it, so if you get the " free" chips. The burrito is about 4.5 , the chips $1, and the drink $2. Overall i love this place, i think my biggest dilemma when i come to this place is what i should order. read more
