Grabbed a quick breakfast before going to the airport. The place is pretty dead in the morning, even on a Friday, so to should have no issues grabbing a table or getting a quick bite to go. If you get multiple breakfast tacos, they are wrapped in the same piece of aluminum foil, so don't be alarmed. I had the chorizo, egg, and cheese. And a Eggs a la Mexicana. Ate here while in town on the recommendation of Jeremy Pena. Well, really because he heavily advertises for them during Astros games. With locations around the Houston area, this is the lone outfit here in north Texas. From the outside it looks like just what it is - a Mexican restaurant with what appears to be a largely Hispanic clientele. The lavish menu in Spanish with English translations almost an afterthought. There is casual seating and Telemundo on various screens. It also appears to have a well stocked bar and outdoor seating. Prices were reasonable. Service was friendly, efficient, and non obtrusive. At one pm on a Thursday the place was not busy but also not empty. My friend and I decided to each try the #6 enchilada plate. She got the chicken with verde sauce. I got the beef with red sauce. Both came with generous portions of rice and retried beans. The beans were on the wet side and very tasty. The rice was also good though a bit subdued. A small green salad graced each plat as well as three enchiladas covered with cheese. Her chicken was well seasoned. My beef was also good - small chunks of diced beef. The meal also came with the usual chips and salsas. The red salsa was tasty and garlicky. A green sauce came in a yellow squeeze bottle with a kick that lingered. Yum. The iced tea came in a glass big enough to share. But I don't. Taqueria Arandas is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. My only regret is that it's just too far from home to patronize regularly. Just so we get this out up front: I LOVE TAQUERIA ARANDAS!! I have been to I don't know how many outposts of this Houston chain, but the fam knows we will eat there once on each trip to Houstopolis. I had thought that my closest TaqA was in Waco - WRONG!!! I tripped over this one in Irving today - I had no idea this was here!! So - whats's for lunch? Yeah, duh. We started with the house-made fresh chips and uncooked salsa - those chips are like crack. One you start, you can't stop. Salsa is always delicious and made fresh daily. I got the new Alambres Norteno, a mix of ham, carne asada, puerco al pastor, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and melted white cheese, served with flour or corn (get corn) tortillas, pico de gallo and fresh guacamole- MUY DELICIOSO!! Yanquis may want to watch out for the pico - they use Serrano chiles, not jalapeños, so the pico may be A LOT hotter than you expect. My husband got the Torta de Pollo Guisado, which was a soft bollillo stuffed with a lot of tender stewed chicken, topped with sliced avocado and sour cream. He loved it! This place is gonna be happening for the World Cup, and is also Cowboys Football obsessed. Unlike any other TaqA I have been in, this one has a separate full bar and outdoor all seating as well. It is a good bet if you are going to stick to the true "taqueria" options, you may be disappointed if you are expecting the normal Dallas Tex-Mex food. Go the real Taqueria route: order a few different tacos - my favorites are the nopales (cactus), pastor (roasted pork), and lengua (beef tongue). Authentic presentation is on corn tortillas with chopped onion and cilantro. Also, they will make you a Michelada - a nice spicy beer with lots of lime and salt. Good stuff! In Houston, we would often go for breakfast and order Chilequeas or huevos mexicanos. Great start to the day. read more

I'm from Southern CA and have lived in TX for about 5 years now. I have traveled to AZ, NM, the southest borders you can think of in the US. This is by far, THE BEST tacos I have ever had in my life. No overexaggeration, the meat is so tender and flavorful...nothing I have ever had or can compare to. The food at this location is not good at all! The food has no flavor! The meats like beef tongue is cut so thin and has no flavor! I ordered a fajita tostada and a fajita and beef tongue sope. I could not eat the food was tasteless! They add too much beans so they can give less meat, but either way the food is not good! The food was great and I promised to come back, but I gave 3 stars because after that meal, all my friends had stomachaches and the end result was not pretty. This was the only meal that we shared together so we ruled this as the reason why we felt ill. Horrible service to start with, I only go with my family because it's just been tradition to come here after mass every Sunday. I used to enjoy it as a kid because of the limited taste I had but as an adult now I see it's pretty bland. They always seem to mess up my order, if I ask to leave items out like beans or the veggies they don't take them off the platter. I ask for a water with lemon like I see other people do around me and I don't get my lemon. Small details like that just get on my nerves a bit. The servers always seem so rushed which I understand if they are understaffed, but I work in service and it doesn't take much to make the guests feel a little welcome and cared for. It is obvious that the owner or manager cares about the quality of the food they produce in their kitchen. It was not just all thrown together for commercial purposes - You can tell from the taste of the food that they make extra efforts to prepare the food with taste quality as a priority. Many places like this seem to just "mail it in" & produce commercial-grade food. This is not that. All three salsas are REALLY good, too - something that in my experience as a Mexican food eater for most of my 58 years, is pretty rare. Sometimes you'll get 1 good one, and occasionally two. If you like authentic tacos and quesadillas this is the place for you. I typically get a fajita steak quesadilla or fajita steak tacos with corn tortillas and cilantro and onion, squeeze a lime on it and add the green sauce you're in taco heaven. This is an authentic place so they speak little English but it's never been a major issue for me. I have tried the diabla shrimp and I wasn't a fan but on the menu it's one of their best sellers. I've also had camarones de plancha and it's basically shrimp fajitas because they bring you tortillas to eat with it. No matter what you get, if you like spicy food, put the green sauce on it. It makes everything taste better. They have speedy service and the food comes out quick. I took away one star because it's not as good as the ones in Houston. read more

Worst place to even consider this a "Mexican restaurant " We had came in about 8pm one night with my husband and sister, we hadn't eaten been a busy day for us and I was pregnant as well. Tell me why the steak tacos and chicken tacos were basically boiled chicken probably from a caldo de pollo and the steak tacos were probably like boiled something like tacos de birria or something but it was the most disgusting experience ever! The waitress was not all that great either, she had came by asked if the tacos were good and I literally placed all the tacos in one plate and said no, these tacos were not good at all! The waitress went to "tell the manager" that way we wouldn't get charged, right? The bill comes back $60 some dollars and we still paid $40 something dollars for some tacos! I thought it was pretty ridiculous, we didn't even buy liquor! NEVER WILL RETURN. Please find elsewhere to go and don't waste your time here you won't be disappointed. read more

Came in on a Sunday on my way to DFW , the wife and I were looking for something fast for breakfast as we had a noon flight to catch. Being from California, decent Mexican food is hard to come by for us. This place was suggested to me by Google and was right off the highway. We walked in and although the place looked busy, we were tended to fast, it's in a dated neighborhood. We were created by our waitress and she took our drink order, wife had the small menudo and I ordered the large pozole. Portion was good for the large the small is too small imo, the flavor was good, service was decent and we were in and out in a span of 35 mins which worked great since we were in a hurry. I overheard the table to the left of us complaining amongst each other about the waitress not being attentive enough but we didn't experience this at all, she brought our drinks right away and took our food order asap, food was out within 6-7 mins. They came with cooked onions, two corn tortillas and plenty of meat - the beef appeared to be chopped up fajita meat which was great - the tortillas while not homemade were soft/pillowy and tasted like a big hug!
