Been meaning to come by here as there aren't many Filipino places in South Bay. Disclaimer: I am born and raised Filipino. This place exceeds my expectations. Only tried their lumpia Shanghai take out, first time eating there in person. The decor takes you back to the mainland a bit. They even have beers and spirits from there. Food: Everything was good! Lechon was VERY crispy and juicy. I don't recommend getting the tapsilong beef (it's very salty and chewy). Sweet sausage tastes good too! The egg is made just perfectly and runny yolk coming out when you cut it in half. 2) bola bola: basically fried fish ball with sweet and sour sauce. It's decent. 3) lumpia: must have!!! One of our favorite spots in South Bay for brunch and Filipino comfort food fix. Always feel like family when we come here. We haven't had trouble getting seated on weekends although heard that it can get a bit busy after church. Service is always so warm, attentive and quick. Dishes came out in a random, confusing order, with one meal not arriving at all until we finally followed up. Even then, we were told it was "just made," but the first bite revealed it was cold. If they had simply been upfront that it was forgotten and needed a few extra minutes, it would've been far easier to understand. Instead, it felt like they rushed it out to save face, which only made things worse. When we let the server know we'd prefer to skip the late, cold dish altogether, the reaction was visibly sour--leaving us feeling awkward, rather than cared for. That was the biggest disappointment of all, especially from a place known for warmth and hospitality. It's hard to say this after previous great experiences, but unless something changes, we won't be returning. Restaurants make mistakes--it happens. Filipino Food in the San Jose area! I've been meaning to try more Filipino food here in the South Bay and I've seen this place get hyped up on Yelp and Tiktok so I decided to take a friend here to give it a try! Though it was branded as a Filipino restaurant, the ambiance gave off more of a typical American fried chicken restaurant. I also noticed that the restaurant was understaffed but the server did do his best to serve us as we ordered the Chicken Pancit Guisado Noodles, Dinuguan Na Baboy, and Turon Ala Mode. Chicken Pancit Guisado Noodles was a 6/10. It's pretty hard to go wrong with Pancit as the order was enough for the two of us, though, I will say they did not give us a lot of meat for the order. Dinuguan Na Baboy was a 7/10. Since dinuguan is my favorite dish, I was so excited to try it and it met expectations! I do find the portions for both the rice and dinuguan questionable. Turon Ala Mode was a 5/10. The Ube ice cream combined with the Pinoy Banana Fritter was really good, though we did not get the cherry, almond, and chocolate syrup along with that dessert as mentioned on the menu. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Tapsilog Bistro! The reason for the 3 stars came down to the food portions and overall restaurant experience. Whenever I go to a Filipino restaurant, I'm used to having much more generous portions for the amount that I paid. My friend and I like to try different cultures food and we wanted to try Filipino food. I ordered the Grand Silog four meat combo plate to try a little bit of everything. I got Crispy Chicken Wing, Crispy Pork Belly, Sweet Sausage and Tapsilog beef. My favorite was the sweet sausage, but everything tasted really good. The combo comes with garlic rice and two fried eggs on top. Only negative was the fried eggs were over cooked, so no runny yoke for the rice. The rice needed it badly here. I have seen in other pictures the eggs are cooked sunny side up. This should be standard each and every time. The service was good. The garlic rice was also a letdown. It was bland with barely any garlic flavor. It felt more like plain rice than the bold aromatic sinangag that usually ties a silog meal together. Stopped by here on a Saturday for lunch after having this place bookmarked for quite some time! We were hoping they would have more outdoor dining available so that we could sit with our dogs, but they only had three small tables outside. The place was quite packed, with a few large parties seated at the longer tables inside, but thankfully we were able to get a small high table right away. They were BUSY so it took a while for our food and drinks to come out, but we didn't mind since it looked like they were pretty short on staff. We ordered the 2 meat silog plate with lechon kawali and longanisa. The meats were both pretty tasty, and I enjoyed the pickled cucumbers that came with the plate. The garlic rice was a little plain for me and could have used a bit more garlic, but otherwise the silog plate was solid. We also ordered the pork sisig fries which were a bit disappointing. The sisig pieces were a little too big to make a cohesive dish wish the fries, and I also felt it was lacking in flavor despite the lemon, salsa and guac that came with the plate. I probably wouldn't get this again. We ordered some diniguan to-go to take home and I grabbed a bite of it while it was still hot. This was made very well and I was pleasantly surprised by the large portion. We also ordered the nafrada osa (calamansi juice, strawberry puree, champagne) and lychee sangria. Both drinks were very yummy! The only thing I did not like about the nafrada osa is that the strawberry puree was too chunky to go through my straw so I had to leave most of it behind :) I'm very picky about Filipino food but this place is legit! I had high hopes and was excited as soon as we walked in and I saw vinegar and Mang Tomas on the table. I used to live in Willow Glen and remembered having to go all the way to Milpitas just to get a good Filipino meal. So when coming back to visit some friends for a party, I decided to see if I could ordder some Lumpia and Tocino to bring to this party. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there is a place nearby now and serving good Filipino food. I'm terribly high standards for Filipino food as my family makes great Filipino food. I am also quite a great cook of Filipino dishes. However, if I'm ever in the area again, I would definitely come back because it's legit and fills a great hole in the once-Filipino food desert that is Willow Glen/Campbell area. Came here with family and it was a HIT! We ordered the Alfonso Sample Platter, Pork Binagoongan, Bicol Express, and Nilagang Baka. Absolutely love that the sample platters come with ayce rice!! You know we went IN on that garlic rice. My favorite items were the pork binagoongan and the bangus and crispy pata from the sample platter. The fried items were perfectly light and crispy and went great with the provided vinegars. The binagnoongan was still crispy despite being stewed together with the tomatoes and sauce; we just did not understand the magic. If you order the nilagang baka, beware it is HOTTT. I'm pretty sure they just take the pot directly off the stove and put it on your table bc it is STEAMINN. It personally wasn't my favorite as I felt it was too oily for my tastes, but it did help warm me up. Of course we have to end the meal with a halo-halo and their ube ice cream is SO THICC and decadent! It must be homemade because of how creamy it was. The Shanghai lumpia were for us to share. Unfortunately , the pork adobo was extremely dry. I usually have gravy or sauce that the pork chunks are served with, however, this was not how this dish was served.
