Friend and I stopped into here after eating ad House of Bowls and figured dessert here was going to be it. I like this place because the Green Tea Tapioca was only $2.25 here plus charge for the tapioca. Seemingly the other places like to charge $4.50 + for some reason. The flavor of the Green Tea is amazing a tad on the strong side but that is exactly what I like. The tapioca is cooked right, not hard, not mushy. What I didn't like is that there doesn't seem to be a place that caters only to 30+ patrons but I guess that would be like expecting to go into a Toys R Us and expecting to not find little kids wandering up and down the isles. But at least most of the patrons in these places have a decent amount of etiquette and don't really cut up like it was some high school cafeteria. read more

Waited 45 minutes for two milk teas and an order of fried squid. Staff refused to acknowledge the wait or address how much longer an order that typically takes 5-10 minutes would be. They should alert customers when there is a backup or at least offer an eta when possible instead of rudely brushing off waiting customers. When food was finally ready they didn't offer an apology or an explanation. The order was cold as if it had been sitting there while they made drinks and orders for other customers. Been coming here for 10 years but the experience tonight was enough to deter me from returning. read more

After who knows how many years, Tapioca House is still around and I, for one, am glad because I still come here every once in a while to get their chicken nuggets meal combo. The interior renovation was recently completed (Friday 02/06/15) and the place is now much brighter with lots of new light fixtures. The order counter looks much nicer with the faux marble counter top and the faux wood walls. They also added a couple of LCD TV's although they were still not operational when I wrote this up. Food quality and quantity has been consistent through out the years. Some of the workers here have worked a few years so the quality of service is still the same as before. Prices did go up by a little bit, but that's pretty much expected. All in all, this is still a Chinatown fixture that I frequent and hopefully I will for years to come. read more

Not bad..with the proliferation of boba places all around Chinatown this place still holds its own. It's been here for years and it's been awhile since we've been here but my kid and I were eating next door at the Veggie buffet and he wanted to try it out. I had my normal strawberry banana smoothie and it was ok. I still like Star Terayaki's best. And others but this place is ok. They have these combo plates which includes a drink which you can upsize for only $6.25. It looks like a good deal. Better than a combo meal at McDonald's. Well maybe not. I haven't tried one but next time I probably will. Many moons ago this used to be a place where people loved to hang out to study but I do t think that's the case much these days. So, it's not too bad. There's plenty of tables and comfy chairs for a good study session. Just avoid sitting by the door. They have outlet by most tables. I usually get a mango tea which is pretty okay. However, lately my favorite drink has been their rose milk tea. I love the smell and the bits of roses on the bottom is so sweet. I also tried their popcorn chicken bento box. Their rice is a bit soggy. It comes with green beans, bean sprouts, and an egg. Ever since I moved out of Houston, I come back for their calamari combo (including minced pork rice, green beans, and flavored boiled egg). Definitely good for college students but now that I've been out of college for some time I've realize this place is just average. Everything is still decently price but taste hasn't really changed. I guess it was great food years ago cause it was cheap and affordable but now it's not that great compared to other places. Their tea is mediocre in my opinion. They use a syrup base for most of the flavored teas which sounds "normal" but a lot of places are slowly transition to the real loose leaf flavor. Food is tasty but greasy. Truth is if you're in chinatown, you can do a lot more flavor. No water. If you push they will give you a cup literally the size of a shot glass. My personal favorite is the coffee milk tea because when I'm there to study it keeps me awake. The staff is really friendly. The chicken nuggets are really crispy and flavorful. I feel like with all their chicken, they cook it really well because the meat is never dried out, it's always juicy. I also love the grilled chicken steak combo, it comes with rice, bean sprouts, green beans, and a hard-boiled egg. It always fills me up. The seasoning on their sides (bean sprouts, green beans, rice) is on point. I didn't like green beans before but then I tried tapioca house's green beans and it made me alter my perspective. Most of the combos are around $7-8 which isn't bad for a meal that fills you up. You might honestly have some leftovers as well. For tapioca and chicken dinners, this place has a lot of value. 10/10 would recommend to someone. This is usually a spot that I go to when me and a group of friends can't decide where to go to eat. Tap House reminds me of church (my CBC youth group always came here and dominated that game in the back) and high school. Bellaire High catered their boba from here. If you want good and plain (not fancy or super sweet) tapioca drinks come here. The drinks are cheap and the food/snacks are as well. Their milk tea is my favorite out of all the places in Houston and I love their fried crispy chicken nuggets here (on their own or with the meal). They also have punch cards here and fast wifi so I've come often while in school to do homework. They're super juicy, have the best flavor, and have a nice crunch without it being too overdone. I'd come here solely just to get chicken nuggets since they're that good. The meal comes with usually a meat which is the main part, rice, boiled egg, bean sprouts, and green beans. The green beans are sooo good ! I wish they would sell them as just a snack but I don't think they do. All that for around $7 is a great deal if you ask me. I'd definitely come here for a meal over any fast food burger joint since they're about the same price. I haven't tried many of their drinks but I hear lots of great things. They have the best lunch combos for college students who is looking for a place to study and eat at the same time! I recommend the crispy chicken nuggets or chicken curry with rice, such a quick and easy lunch that's not only good and cheap (all under $10!) but super fulfilling as well. This probably the best boba tea in Houston, TX. I've tried other places but I am sure nothing can compare to this one. They have all types of milk tea, smoothie and other drinks. They also have different type of jelly available for you, for example, apple jelly, rainbow jelly or coconut jelly. The price between the cup size is only 50 cents. So I decided to get the big size instead and I did finished it all. I ordered coconut almond milk tea with boba and it was definitely delicious. Their bubbles were definitely chewy and I couldn't stop chewing them lol. I didn't order jelly because I don't like mixing the two together. I did tried the jelly drink since my boyfriend ordered the mango smoothie with jelly and boba. I definitely like how their boba had the taste of apple (apple jelly). This place is in the same shopping mall as Bodard Bistro, so definitely has a lot of parking. You can actually walk from other place to this boba place to try after your meal. This place is awesome. I only gave it a chance after Star Snow Ice closed in the Welcome Supermarket plaza. Met a friend here without having tried this place (sad life, I was looking for SSI) and hoped for the best. AND YELP CAME THROUGH. For me atleast. First of all, some background for what I'm comparing this place to. I just got back from three weeks in NYC and was an avid aficionado of Tenren Teatime, where they basically have a shaker for boba and it's incredible. And it's also like 5$ for a small boba tea. So imagine my surprise that this place was only 3.50$! It's been a while since I was here in Houston. Obviously, everything is cheaper. So I can't really say if this place is pricey for boba. All I can say is, this place has quality! I ordered my usual Taro Milk Tea with Tapioca. The bubbles were incredible. They had flavor and were chewy and delicious. My number one pet peeve is hard, flavorless boba bubbles. The flavor was also en pointe. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my bubble tea. Then why did I dock a star?!?!?! Two reasons: 1. They put ice in my milk tea. Everyone knows ice compromises the flavor. True boba baristas would not do that. 2. My friend who got the fruity boba flavor (e.g. mango, passionfruit) thought hers was rather bland and nothing special. Recommend the classic flavors. And try to tell them no ice! read more

Even today, Tapioca House is my go-to boba place in Chinatown, because it serves the most authentic boba tea that is closest to what I had in Taiwan. Its perfect sweetness and balance between milk and tea make Tap House's boba tea my favorite in Houston. Now, Tap House is even better than before! In the past, Tap House's biggest weakness is its filthiness throughout the store that can be sometimes repulsive. Fortunately, with its recent decor, the entire premise is modern and clean! I used to just pick up the drink and go because I didn't want to sit in the dirty setting, but with the new and clean decor, I think that Tap House can be a great place to hang out. Hopefully, it will stay clean from now on. If your appetite allows it, do yourself a favor and get the Taiwanese fried chicken nuggets! Fried in starch batter and sprinkled with salt and pepper, Taiwanese style fried chicken will be a delicious experience that is different from your regular fried chicken. Get the nuggets either as a value meal combo (with rice and a drink) or a la carte to complement your boba drink as a complete Taiwanese snack experience! Because it used to be cash-only, many items are priced so that you pay whole dollars with tax. For example, a regular boba tea is priced $2.77 so you pay $3 after tax. I thought this is pretty nice because I don't have to deal with pesky changes if I pay in cash. Anyway that was just a distraction. (Please see the picture I uploaded as an example- just note that I already took a few bites out of the meal). The boba that comes with the meal was typical of those that you can buy at other places. The ambiance is also similar to many boba places. You can study or just chill here if you want. The only gripe I have is that there isn't a clear listing of all the miscellaneous charges. For example, if you want tapioca in your tea for the combo meal, it costs an extra 28 cents. read more
