Milk Teas For quarantine adventures and to help support one of my favorite local businesses I decided to try every Milk tea at Tapioca House and review each one of them. Overall, Tapioca House milk teas are all delicious and high quality. They all have a milky thickness and leave your mouth feeling smooth and moist. A couple of my favorite teas are: Taro, Thai, Barley, Almond Coconut, Mango, and Passion Fruit but whatever you choose you will not be disappointed. Tapioca Milk Tea Jasmine Milk Tea Honey Jasmine Milk Tea Oolong Milk Tea Earl Grey Milk Tea Sweet, flowery flavor similar to horchata with a smooth and creamy texture. Leaves your mouth and throat smooth and moist.  Lavender Milk Tea  Sweet with a brown sugar or caramel taste. The lavender flavor is light and comes in as an after-taste.  Taro Milk Tea Very sweet with a flavor similar to sugar cookies or FruitLoops. The liquid feels thick and slightly powdery, similar to almond milk. This drink can be pretty  filling.    Thai Tea This tea has a smokey and sweet vanilla flavor. This is a great Thai tea. The drink is smooth and thick but not as thick as the taro milk tea. Coffee Milk Tea Very sweet with a hint of bitterness with a medium-strong coffee taste. I do not taste chickery. Barley Milk Tea This tea has a semi-sweet and slightly nutty flavor with fibrous bits at the bottom--similar to drinking the leftover milk from a bowl of Wheaties. Sesame Milk Tea Semi-sweet with a grainy texture. The tea tastes like a mix of sesame balls, oreo milk tea, and tiramisu. Honey Milk Tea Sweet but surprisingly, not super sweet. This tea is smooth and flowery with a hint of a honey taste. It leaves a very pleasant and smooth feeling in your throat and mouth. This would be a great tea for a sore throat. Almond Milk Tea Smooth texture with a flavor similar to  agar jelly. (does not taste like almonds)This tea has a very pleasant flavor, feel, and aftertaste. Coffee Jelly makes for a great topping to go along with this tea. Almond Honey Milk Tea This drink tastes very similar to almond milk tea. Surprisingly, the non-honey version is slightly sweeter. The honey version has a little less of an almond flavor.  Almond Coconut Milk Tea This drink is delicious. Typically, coconut flavored teas taste like coconut shavings while this drink has a nutty flavor like coconut oil. The drink is smooth and sweet. Hazelnut Milk Tea  This Tea is semisweet with a flavor similar to a chocolate turtle. The drink is smooth and has an average thickness. Caramel Milk Tea Very sweet. It has a strong caramel flavor with a flowery aftertaste. This tea is thin but smooth. Coconut Milk Tea Sweet with a nutty coconut oil type of flavor. It's thin and smooth. French Vanilla Milk Tea  Simi-sweet with a mild vanilla flavor with a strong flowery aftertaste.  Mango Milk Tea Very sweet. The flavor is as if Creamsicle made a mango flavored popsicle. The tea feels thick and creamy.  Passion Fruit Milk Tea Sweet with a similar flavor to mixed-berry yogurt. It has a Simi-thick creamy texture. Strawberry Milk Tea This has a sweet strawberry milk flavor which tastes like Nesquik Strawberry Milk.  Chocolate Milk Tea Sweet and chocolatey. There is also a hint of a nutty flavor. The chocolate is strong and also similar to Nesquik.  Peppermint Milk Tea This tea tastes like mint icecream. It has a strong mint flavor.  Rose Milk tea Very sweet and very strong. The flavor has a great rose taste but I recommend getting less than 100% sweetness. read more

I always feel nostalgic eating at tapioca house. Their chicken nugget meal includes rice, an egg, and veggies, and your choice of milk tea or regular tea. They always have party sized platter of chicken nuggets for big groups! read more

I forgot my lunch at home so my friend suggested we need to come here to grab a meal and get some drinks. I got the braised pork combo meal with honey milk tea with alloy and a regular honey milk tea for my friend. It was about 13 bucks or so for just the combo meal. It was filling and love the pork, but I felt like the rice was a little overcooked, and the green beans were definitely overcooked. Staff were quick and straight to the point. I got my me in and out in about 10 minutes. The place was cleaned and neat and open space. There's free parking at the front. read more

It has been ages since I been here as I don't drink boba milk tea as much anymore. But I got a very old punch of theirs from a friend that need one more punch to get a free drink. I went with a friend so I can get a free drink. There were no one inside but it is very clean and plenty of seats and tables, the workers were very friendly and we got our drinks quickly. It brought back some good memories of this place. If you have good boba with out a line this is the place to go to. read more

Came to tapioca house after a big and heavy lunch, and it was just what we needed. They have a huge selection of drinks and snacks/foods to choose from. I got the strawberry coconut cream blend with tapioca. Their tapioca was amazing - chewy and firm. The drink had a nice blend of both the strawberry and coconut. No flavor was over powering the other, and it wasn't too sweet, but it was light and refreshing. Plenty of booths inside for comfortable seating. Very cozy. Service was quick and friendly. They require a $5 minimum purchase with card. The lot in the plaza has good amounts of parking, but I can imagine it getting packed during the busy hours since there are so many businesses in the area. read more

One of the original teahouse/tapioca places in Houston. More recently changed ownership. The current owner worked here for over 15 years and then bought the business. While the interior has changed/been upgraded, one thing still remains, the consistency of the taste. While I hadn't gone in a while since I haven't been coming out to Chinatown as often, coming back really reminded me of the simpler times before marriage and the kids. Prices are still very fair and it's still a great place to drink, eat and visit with friends. I definitely recommend their mango tea and of course their tap crispy chicken nuggets. read more

My favorite chicken nuggets in town! A combo chicken nugget meal (a small boba, chicken nuggets, rice and green beans) is $10, which is a steal if you're already getting drink because that alone is over $3. The nuggets always come out so crispy. You also get to choose a spiciness level - I always choose 5 and it's really not that spicy. The scallion pancakes are thicker than I imagined but still delicious and the crispy tofu was not as crispy as the nuggets but still had a great flavor. The curry chicken meal was also yummy and very filling! The milk tea half sugar boba is my other go-to but this time they were out of tapioca so I got it with coffee jelly and I do not recommend - the coffee jelly was a little harder than I would've liked. The strawberry smoothie was super yummy and with lychee jellies inside it was a nice dessert! read more

Was visiting family in Houston from LA and they told me I had to try the crispy chicken nuggets here! It did not disappoint!! Their popcorn chicken is crispy and the chicken is very juicy. You have to try it eating it with the basil too, it adds another level of flavor and aromatics to it. The vibes are cute and lots of tables and chairs to sit and catch up with friends. The staff were super friendly and they shared that the chicken recipe is the original owners recipe from Taiwan! Super authentic and homey~ I would definitely come again! read more

I have been coming here since middle school and it has a special place in my heart. Green tea bread is one of the off the menu items but they don't offer it all the time. After ordering a pick-up order, the food had a metal wire from a scrub brush about a quarter of an inch long. After calling to ask for a manager, I was hung up on twice. After driving in person to the location, I was refused the contact information for their insurance company to file a claim for a visit to the hospital for an x-ray to ensure my girlfriend had not ingested any other metal. I was told by staff that if anyone calls asking to contact a manager to not give any information out, and if they call back to hang up on them. I will be contacting the health department tomorrow. An affordable and underrated spot to eat at! The beef in their beef noodle soup was super tender; I could cut it with a plastic spoon. They give a generous amount of noodles too, although their broth could be more flavorful. The chicken nuggets are seasoned well and I liked how they cooked their green beans. Wanted to update my review to day this place holds so many memories growing up in Houston. It was my tapioca hot spot before any of the other spots. The OG and so happy they are still around and thriving. The food is still spot on. The spicy chicken combo is still the same and hits the spot. The drinks are still perfect. The place has been remodeled and updated, for those who've been coming for over a decade will know the significant change. I bring my kids here now and they too love the food. Ack!!! I was grocery shopping in the area and wanted something refreshing as I drove my mom around to all the stores. Tapioca House was next door so I decided to stop in when I saw they had a Durian Cream Blend! The prices are for the small size - way smaller than the normal boba cups! You pay extra for their version of large - which is the normal cup at most places. Ended up being a little over $6.. I thought that was a bit high compared to other places. But my drink was just gross - it tasted like water.. no durian flavor whatsoever.. and it left this cardboard after taste.. like whatever they used for flavoring was old?! Pretty disappointing. The only redeeming factor was the boba was fresh (cause it was warm compared to the rest of my drink) and they were chewy and done right. Will definitely not be back. read more

Revisted one of the first boba spots in bellaire, at least in my memory. The last time I was here was many years ago, as it was the go to after school snack spot. They have renovated since then, with an ambiance that attracts small groups and individuals that need to do work or just chill. I got a jasmine milk tea with boba, and the total came out to be around $5, which is very affordable compared to other boba spots that keep opening around the area. The taste reminds me of magic cup, which is not my personal favorite but also not bad. I would still come back to try other drinks. read more

I would've never considered ordering anything other than a drink here but I'm glad I decided to give it a try! The brown sugar boba was really sweet which I didn't mind. The beef noodles had a kick but tasted better than I had expected because, after all, I do admit I had low expectations for food from a boba shop. The popcorn chicken was the star of the show as it was so savory and crunchy that I had to resist ordering more. If I come back I would probably just order the chicken nuggets! We stopped by today for our daily dose of boba haha. Their earl gray milk tea is amazing as always. It's on the milder side with a floral undertone which is quite different from other places. Their boba is slightly harder than usual. The Vietnamese coffee was somewhat disappointing. Not sure what kind of coffee beans they used but the drink was lacking its signature strong and dark taste. The nutty undertone was there but the coffee itself was weak. On top of that, they didn't mix the condensed milk completely, so when we tried to stir it, the milk formed into small clumps of weirdness and when you take a sip, it's a hit or miss of milk clumps or no milk clumps. Deliciousness! Was picking up food next door and stopped in for some drinks and snacks. The staff was very friendly. Ordered the strawberry mango smoothie, coconut milk tea, fried mushrooms and wings. The smoothie was sooooooo good. Great mixture and not too milky. The coconut milk tea was a great mix. I forgot to get it without the balls bc I'm not a fan but the taste was great. The fried mushrooms (medium spice) are perfect snacks. And the wings were a hit. Tap house will always hold a special place in my heart as I basically LIVED at the one on the drag in Austin during my college days. I was able to get a whole ass meal for less than $10, and being a broke af student, it was truly heaven sent. When I moved to Houston, I was more than happy to frequent this place again. I usually get the same order cause why try to fix it, if it ain't broke? That would be the chicken nuggets meal 5 spicy with an oolong milk tea, and it never disappoints! The chicken nuggets are always crunchy and golden brown to perfection with the spicy powder just enhancing the flavor. With the meal, you also get bean sprouts, green beans, rice topped with ground meat, and an egg for your sides. Trust me when I say I am actually able to save half of the meal for dinner cause the portion is chef's kiss. If you were looking to get another side (treat yourself), I'd recommend the green onion pancakes! Crispy, flavorful, and just plain delicious. As for the boba, I usually don't have much to complain about. I will say though that the teas they make tend to run a bit more sugary than I'd like, but I just ask for it to be made with 50% sugar. Tapioca house had to be the most underrated bubble tea place on our trip. I would say this is a hidden gem but only because there's so many other big name bubble tea places in the area that this place receives no love. I just came here for a original milk tea with mini bubbles and it was the most inexpensive thing ever. Most their menu items are, in comparison to local boba shops. Anyways, I really enjoyed the milk tea. It was really easy to drink and super enjoyable. I was also the only one who ordered bubble tea here out of my group. They did take sips of it and said it was great, so I'm not the only one. However, not sure if it's always going to be this way but I'd love to come here again. The cups might have a misrepresentation as well because of the crinkles making it look fugly but nonetheless it's the inside that counts read more

Located in the Diho Square shopping center in Chinatown. Plenty of free parking. I ordered seasalt oolong tea with small tapioca pearls which has a seasalt foam on the top of the drink. The drink tasted good. Remember to ask for their reward card to get a stamp for each purchase toward a free drink. read more

I was here at Tapioca House 品茶 few times trying to see how I can host a meetup event. It works when I'm here by myself, but not doing too good when I brought first-time guests during my Chinatown Crawl UYE. The cashier was a bit rude to them. Reading from other reviewers, this restaurant existed the longest in Chinatown. I wasn't here in the beginning but I know they kept adding new drinks and Taiwanese snacks. Fox E once asked me, "where is your favorite boba milk tea place in Chinatown?" I told him I'm so boba tead out. There are too many of them popping out as we speak. Tapioca House doesn't stand out for me. The only thing I like is the vegetable drinks. They are delicious and healthier than bubble milk teas. read more

First, let me say that the food is delicious. I have NO ISSUE with the FOOD. My problem is the menu on both the website, their location, and Uber Eats. Our family ordered our combo meals through UE; combo meals come with a milk tea. When our food was delivered, we had no drinks. We thought that either the driver forgot them or the establishment did, so we called the restaurant directly. We were told, "That UE's delivery menu is wrong and that they couldn't do anything about it." I said that Yelp and your website all state combo meals come with a drink. Once more "They're all wrong. Nothing we can do." I like to think I am a reasonable person and I usually just chalk it up to mistakes happen, but WHY HAVEN'T YOU CHANGED ALL THREE MENU'S TO REFLECT WHAT YOUR EMPLOYEE(S) HAVE STATED? If you are looking for a milk tea and meal combo, this place offers excellent value - even for this part of town. As of August 2019, combos start at $6.88. This combo includes a $3 drink, but you can pick any drink you want and they'll just take $3 off the price of the drink. Oh, and they take credit cards. Upsizing the drink costs $0.55, and toppings cost an extra $0.40. We've tried 3 different meals, and they were all excellent. Each meal came with rice topped with minced pork, bean sprouts, a flavored hard-boiled egg, green beans and your choice of meat. I'm not sure who ioca is, otherwise I'd Tap ioca on the shoulder, since everyone keeps telling me to. Some of the cheapest bubble tea in Houston, but it tastes pretty fake, like someone I know. If my wife or husband loved this place, it'd be renamed Tapioca Spouse. But she absolutely doesn't. At all. I mean he. Tapioca House is connected to a pretty delicious restaurant but unfortunately the bubble tea here is really lacking something. I only give it 4 stars because the prices are so very low and good value for money, so it's worth trying, because if you happen to like it, you'll spend less on drinks here than almost any other Boba spot. Decided to try another tea house, the Thai tea blended was good. The coconut milk tea had a little to much milk and not enough coconut flavor. But over all okay, would try different flavors next time. My favorite were the veggie egg rolls, love the bit size portions. Will try other snacks next time. I've been coming here since high school (gosh that makes me feel old lol) the drinks are incredible and perfectly well balanced in sweetness. I'm picky when it comes to sweetness in the drinks and have not found that any where else that makes it any whereas good as this place. I recently started calling the orders in to pick up and every time I have placed the phone order it has been quickly answered and those who have answered the phone has been kind and courteous. The first time I recently ordered the scallion pancakes it was very bland, the second time ordering I decided to ask for the seasoning they put on crispy chicken on the scallion pancakes (the person on the phone was unsure whether it was possible as no one had ever requested but went ahead with my request) let me just tell you - TRY IT that way it tastes AMAZING!! Now every time I order I will always ask for the seasoning on the scallion pancakes. I love this place and always will even if it is a bit of a far drive for me. I just have to say, the smoothies are DELICIOUS. The service is very friendly and amazing. They were playing SILHOUETTE by Kana-Boon which is my favorite song of all time which made it a better experience. I know it's just a song but it changed my mood by a lot. It's my first time visiting Texas so I was not familiar to these new places. We decided to stop by to try something new, and oh my goodness it just made my day. Finally, somewhere I can get popcorn chicken with my bubble tea! They have pretty cheap drinks (under $4) and a huge variety! My friend got the avocado coffee smoothie and it was surprisingly good. It was super creamy because of the avocado and reminded me of a frapp. I got the grapefruit green tea which was refreshing and not too sweet. We also got snacks to share- popcorn chicken, fried tofu, and fried squid. My favorites were the chicken and the tofu. They were both seasoned really well and fresh out of the fryer. This place is a good spot for studying too and there is plenty of seating with outlets. Reasonable prices + tasty food/drinks = I will be back! read more
